What a year it has been so far! I find myself both proud and cautiously optimistic about this portfolio. Trunk Tales has come a long way since its inception, building a legacy of excellence and dedication. Over the years, numerous editors have been recognized for their hard work, with some even going on to become Inkundla Editors a true testament to the caliber of this publication.
In recent years, Trunk Tales has dominated ARTSA, earning the title of Best Magazine multiple times. It’s an intimidating act to follow, and I certainly have some big shoes and wheels to fill.
Writing doesn't always come naturally to me. When I hit a creative block, I often look back not to copy, but to draw inspiration from the greats who came before me, and perhaps even improve upon their legacy.
A special congratulations to the Eastern Province, who have won the Stan Anderson Award for the fourth consecutive year. Kudos to the previous editors and to every table that contributed and making the reminders, mooi praat en weer vra, worthwhile.
It's no surprise that Divan Gerber handed me a bottle of brandy and a pack of Rennies his version of a "good luck" basket!
To kick things off, I reached out to some of the legends for their most inspiring quotes and one-liners to include in this first edition.
Pienaar “Balju” Allers 2018/2019
“As past editor, Trunk Tales triggered my creative ability that I never really explored. This is what Round Table does, it takes you out of your comfort zone and develops you. You must only be willing, raise your hand and commit. You will experience the true value of this wonderful organization”
Duncan “Gnome” Morris 2021/2022
“Do not say no, Say Yes”
Stefan “Troep”

“Trunk Tales will always be a place where we leave memories behind for us to remember and for the ones who follow to discover”
Divan Gerber
“Do not let an opportunity to acquire or develop a new skill pass you by”
With this, lets see what our fellow tables have been up to so far.

Port Alfred 177
An Unforgettable Journey of Fellowship, Culture, and Brotherhood
The Numbers Tour hosted by Round Table 177 was nothing short of spectacular It is the second time we hosted the fellow 177 tablers from all over the world from 13 -19 April 2025 Excitement filled the air as we embarked on a journey that would reconnect old friends and forge new international bonds
Port Alfred 177 welcomed tablers from Bad Kreuznach 177 Germany, Antibes 177 France and England; bringing an incredible mix of culture and camaraderie
The Adventure Begin began in Durban, where we were treated to thrilling excursions including a boat trip at the harbour and a visit to uShaka Marine World – home of the sharks! These experiences left everyone in awe. The hospitality shown by Table 2 and Kloof was exceptional Pins, coins, and banners were exchanged with warm smiles and flowing conversations, setting the tone for the rest of the tour
We then went on to Umhlanga and stayed at Ocean View Villas in Umhlanga, hosted by a gracious 41’er It was nothing short of luxurious The setting, the fellowship, and the generosity we received here truly reflected the spirit of Round Table
Onward to Kokstad and Umtata. Despite the rain, spirits remained high as we journeyed to Kokstad to experience the local delicacy – pig’s head! The fellowship with Kokstad tablers and their Area Chairman was warm and memorable
From there, we travelled to Ebony Lodge in Umtata. The tablers welcomed us with open arms, providing a hearty meal and heartfelt fellowship in their clubhouse. Next, we headed to Mari-a-Lodge in Komga. Despite initial transport hiccups, our determined host ensured we made it to the lodge, where East London, Stutterheim, and Komga tablers joined us for game drives, laughter, and the exchange of regalia. The highlight was the incredible hospitality that made us feel right at home
From Komga we headed to Grahamstown, where we explored the Corey Library where the artefacts and regalia from ARTSA’s past gave us a deep sense of our shared legacy. This was followed by lunch and fellowship with GHT 11
From Grahamstown we headed to Port Alfred where our guests were welcomed by their Port Alfred hosts before a festive spitbraai brought everyone together for an unforgettable night.
Our Sibuya game drive and river cruise brought us up close with nature’s beauty. But perhaps the most moving moment came with our visit to John Jeremiah Home, where we were confronted by the dire condition of the facilityHowever, this visit sparked action, and an international project is now on the cards, aimed at restoring the home. Easter eggs and treat parcels brought joy to the children there. From there, we shared more exchanges with the wonderful members of Alex/Kenton 210. A final stop at a local 41’er’s home for burgers and heartfelt fellowship marked the perfect conclusion to a busy day
Saturday saw us giving back, with tank projects at Nemato and PAHS – a true testament to the spirit of service. After a visit to the historic Pig & Whistle and the TOOO Scope in Bathurst, we dressed up for the grand finale: the Gala Evening What a night it was – an incredible show and celebration of friendship, dedication, and unity
After one final breakfast, our guests departed, many continuing their holidays in South Africa, but all carrying lifelong memories of a 177 Numbers Tour well-executed, filled with laughter, purpose, and brotherhood - Keanen Hendricks
Lizwi Mdolomba Cradock 37
Lizwi how did you get involved in Round Table?
Through my business dealings in town, someone whom I consider like a big brother, Harland Willard (41er of Cradock 37), introduced Round Table’s key values and principles to me. After talking for a couple of hours about round table, I expressed my intrigue, and he asked John Tom to invite me to the next meeting of Round Table Cradock. What has your table journey been like so far?
It has been very interesting and eye opening I have been to a couple of area events and club events. I like the rules and traditions. I love to see how passionate some people are about this organization ARTSA in Parys has been a great experience for me I have been making notes during the conferences that relate to me and are encouraging and shape me as a person
Why do you want to join Round Table?
I think before I heard about Round Table, my life and choises have resembled a Tabler. For the past years I have helped numerous people in various ways. I am even a foster parent to a boy who has no family other than me. So now I met an organization of men that care about others, a group of people who are likeminded and joined together by the spirit of service to others. So, the table principles resonate to my personal principals
What kind of activities or events would you be most excited to participate in or organize?
It would be something related to my profession, with is in the healthcare industry. Like the ARTSA and SANBS joint venture. I would like to contribute towards that. Or we could work with kids in schools through Round Table. Young people make lifechanging decisions without the proper understanding of the effect it might have on their lives Just like the Bible says, we perish because of the lack of knowledge Young people are not knowledgeable about healthy choices. As a table we have a structured program with the aim of healthy choices, especially in the high schools.
What do you think makes a great Table Team?
Very interesting question for somebody that is not a tabler yet, of does not have much experience. But I think if there is a shared vision and goal and everybody is committed to the goal that is a great beginning. Let me rather put it this way - what would make a group or table work is people who have not really concentrated on the things that are the same about them but people who are so much self-aware to know what is different about them, and then probably that is what they need to bring to the table You bring your difference Your difference to make a difference. We are so used to be wanting to be the same and only engaging with likeminded people, but how about bringing what is different about each tabler and use your difference to make the difference. That will make a great team.
How would you motivate a non-member to become involved
in Round Table?
Firstly, I would like to clarify the myths about Round Table Many people do not know the authenticity about and values about Round Table and then think it is not for them. I would approach people whose values and principles are closely knit to the values of Round Table, and the clarify the myths around the organization.

I would like to share my thoughts and feedback with you regarding my first EP-AGM Meeting.
Before the meeting, I entered with high expectations I hoped that we could reflect on the past year together, discuss our achievements, and set clear goals for the new term. I also expected active participation and honest, open conversations from everyone present.
During the meeting, I experienced a strong sense of pride. It was encouraging to see how dedicated and passionate everyone is about the future of our Round Table The energy in the room was positive, and I appreciated how everyone contributed with respect and enthusiasm. What made the meeting even more special was how enjoyable and fun it was – there were several light-hearted moments that made us laugh properly and made the entire atmosphere more relaxed. It truly showed that we are not just a team, but also a big family full of friends
After the meeting, I felt that we are on a good path. I am excited about what lies ahead and firmly believe that we can achieve a lot as an area. I appreciate everyone’s contribution and look forward to working with you on implementing our plans
Thank you very much for your time, input, dedication, and contributions.
Kind regards,

Before the day of fun, I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone on that day made me feel so comfortable and at ease at every station where we stopped. During the event, I experienced excitement – I was completely and childishly thrilled to be part of all the day’s activities, and one thing I can say is that it didn’t disappoint me The day taught me more about teamwork, perseverance, motivation, and one thing I can truly say is that I ended the day with wonderful memories and good friends that were made. I’m excited to experience and attend next year’s Boererally, but what I’m looking forward to the most is what new activities might be added

This collaboration highlighted the importance of teamwork and mutual respect. Members from both tables shared ideas, learned from one another, and built friendships that extended beyond the meeting The experience reinforced the belief that when people come together with a shared purpose, they can accomplish extraordinary things.
Looking Ahead
As the meeting concludes, both clubs are already discussing future opportunities to collaborate. Our shared journey has not only strengthened our individual clubs but also enriched the broader Round Table network. Together, we are proving that the spirit of Round Table is alive and thriving, fueled by a commitment to service, fellowship, and making the world a better place
In the words of the Round Table motto, “Adopt, Adapt, Improve,” both our tables have shown that by adopting a collaborative mindset, adapting to challenges, and striving for improvement, we can truly make a difference. PE West 142 is taking the buddy system serious and will commit and be by Alex/Kenton 210 side where even and when ever time and opportunity is available. Chairman: Joshua Burger
On the 22nd of April 2025, Round Table Alex/Kenton 210 proudly hosted the inaugural Mini Boat Races, a community-focused event that was originally initiated by Rotary and has now been entrusted to us to lead. The Mini Boat Races was created with the intention of engaging the public in a lighthearted, outdoor activity
As many of our previous events are held indoors, this was a refreshing opportunity to offer something different, a fun and inclusive outdoor experience for families, friends, and members of the wider community. Our prima ourage community participation in a relaxed and enjo the benefits of spending time outdoors
For avai d at R100, served as an entry into the race. Participants were allowed to purchase more than one boat, and in some cases, individuals bought up to ten entries
In total, we sold 64 boats. These sales were made through a mix of Quicket, card payments, cash sales, and generous donations Altogether, the event raised an impressive R7,820.
To add to the excitement, we awarded cash prizes to the first three boats that crossed the finish line:
1st Place – R1,000
2nd Place – R750
3rd Place – R500
For a first-time event, the turnout was encouraging, and the feedback overwhelmingly positive. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the children in particular had a fantastic time. Looking ahead, we are planning to host another Mini Boat Races event later in the year, with the goal of doubling our number of entries and building on the success of this first edition.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dewald from Table 142 and Sheldon from Table 108 for their support and hands-on assistance throughout the event your help was truly appreciated.
The Kenton 100 miler is a project to help get our small town on the map. Not that many people don’t know about Kenton, but in one’s daily life it is easy to forget and just look at what is right there
So, this is a great community project around town, and as such, it’s always good as Table to be part of the community. Job was simple, set up and run a marshalling post. But simple doesn’t mean easy, as we were up early to be set up and ready. Then being a community project, I felt it should be a family day. My wife and I with both kids set up our table, with tea and rusks, which when done the kids just played in the dunes.
A fun day, and glad we could add to the spirit of our community.

Don't Camo Yourself
The Don't Camo Yourself (DCY) initiative is a movement that evolved from focusing on male mental health awareness to a broader mission of building male mental resilience. It encourages men to stop facing their struggles alone and start talking or action openly. DCY aims to equip men to face life's challenges, find meaning, take ownership of their lives, and recognize their potential as role models
DONT CAMO YOURSELF is an initiative that has its roots planted in Round Table Southern Africa.
The initiative promotes a broader definition of masculinity that includes emotional intelligence, empathy, and healthy self-expression. It emphasizes that mental wellbeing is a skill that can be developed DCY fosters supportive environments where men can share experiences, offer support, challenge each other to grow, and build camaraderie.
Feeling stagnant? It's time to push your boundaries and grow. Don't Camo Yourself.
We foster an environment of personal development and unwavering tenacity. This journey of male mental resilience is about picking a challenge – setting a new standard, developing a new skill, overcoming a setback – and seeing it through with grit.

Easter Egg Collection
Round Table Algoa 108 held our annual Easter Egg Collection at Newton Park SuperSpar on Sunday, 30th March.
The members and I met at the clubhouse on Saturday, where we packed the gazebo, collection box, and bunny ears, enjoying a few refreshments along the way in preparation for our early start the next day
We regrouped on Sunday morning just after 8:30 AM and were set up and ready to begin by 9:00 AM. Things got off to a slow start, but after an hour, members of the public began opening their hearts to this wonderful cause Donations soon started flowing in, much to our delight.
As always, there was plenty of good banter among the boys, which kept the spirits high. By 12:00 PM, we began packing up and took a count of the donations an incredible 540 Easter eggs (valued at approximately R1,500) were collected! Just what we needed for our two beneficiaries: Twinkle Twinkle and Rina’s Community Projects
Afterward, we headed to Ziggy’s for some lunch, a few cold ones, and great fellowship. Two weeks later, we packed all the individually knitted baskets for the children, and on the 17th of April, both beneficiaries joined us at the clubhouse for the handover That moment being able to bring smiles to so many children's faces is always the most rewarding part of this project.
I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to my fellow Table members for their commitment to this heart-warming initiative, and to Newton Park SuperSpar for generously allowing us to collect at their store

Music Bingo
Algoa 108 proudly hosted our very first Bingo event on the 10th of May at The Music Kitchen. This event was held in aid of Save-a-Pet, our chosen beneficiary for the project.
Planning began six weeks prior, as we needed an early start to confirm the venue date, design the social media poster, and get tickets printed.
All members enthusiastically jumped in to assist with the planning, and together we managed to sell an incredible 174 tickets for the evening!
On the night of the event, we met at The Music Kitchen at 5:00 PM to prepare, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. It wasn’t long before the venue was packed, and the bingo games got underway. Participants had an absolute blast with the fun atmosphere, lively crowd, and refreshments flowing, some guests were even dancing on the tables by the end of the night!
We had fantastic prizes up for grabs, including a 5-litre bottle of brandy, an air fryer, and many more exciting items.
The event was a tremendous success, thanks to the incredible support from the public and the hard work of our Table members.
Algoa 108 raised a gross profit of R29,73644, with R22,302.33 donated to Save-a-Pet, and R8,434.11 going towards future Algoa 108 initiatives
I would like to sincerely thank all our Table members, The Music Kitchen, and every single person who supported us on the night it truly means a lot and makes a big difference.
A special shout-out to Marinus Rautenbach for his guidance and support throughout the project

Pipeliner Perspective
Being a roundtable pipeliner has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life It’s more than just a role it’s a way of thinking, connecting, and growing both personally and professionally. The roundtable setting encourages open dialogue, shared learning, and a sense of belonging that is rare in most work environments. Each day brings an opportunity to collaborate with driven, like-minded individuals who are focused not only on achieving results, but also on lifting each other up. This culture of mutual respect and accountability has helped me develop stronger communication skills, strategic thinking, and a deeper sense of purpose.
But the most powerful impact has been personal. Being a pipeliner has boosted my confidence, sharpened my discipline, and given me a clear direction. It’s taught me to value progress over perfection, to celebrate small wins, and to always keep moving forward.
In short, being a roundtable pipeliner isn’t just something I do it’s become part of who I am. And I’m truly grateful for how it continues to shape my journey, both in business and in life.

A Day of Hope
The Boere Rally That Brought a Community Together
On a sunny Saturday morning, the heart of our community beat stronger than ever as families, friends, and neighbors gathered for the annual Boere Rally. It wasn’t just another community event it was a day driven by purpose, united by compassion, and remembered for the joy it brought. This year, the Boere rally held a deeper meaning. All proceeds were dedicated to helping Stefan Bardenhorst, a beloved member of our community, who is bravely fighting Tuberculosis Meningitis. With this cause close to many hearts, everyone came together with an energy that could only be described as inspiring. From boerewors rolls to tractors, live music to laughter echoing through the air, every corner of the Boere rally buzzed with warmth and generosity. Children running through the grass, while local artisans and stallholders proudly showcased their goods Friends caught up, and strangers became allies in a shared mission to make a difference. By the end of the day, the community had raised an incredible R100,000 for Stefan’s treatment It was more than just a number it was a symbol of what can happen when people rally together for a cause bigger than themselves.
To our generous sponsors, dedicated stallholders, and every single person who attended: thank you. You turned an ordinary day into an unforgettable one, and showed what true community spirit looks like.
Here’s to hope, healing, and many more Boere Rallies to come.
EP Area Tabler of the Year Interview
Estiaan Ferreira - Kirkwood 78
How did it feel when your name was called at the Gala dinner?
I remember Jacques saying that the winner was a local club member, and I genuinely thought it was going to be Regardt van der Merwe, our then Chairman, who had an outstanding year as EP PRO When I realized it was me, it felt incredibly humbling and was a very special moment in my Table journey. It was definitely a highlight of my Table career. Nobody tables for accolades or recognition, but I must admit, that was a moment I felt truly proud.
What lessons or motivations have you learned in Round Table that you use in everyday life?
One of the most valuable aspects of my journey in Round Table has been the lessons I’ve learned along the way many of which I now apply to my everyday life. I've learned the importance of teamwork and how powerful it is when people come together with a shared purpose I've also developed a deeper understanding of servant leadership putting others first, listening more, and leading by example rather than title Time management, accountability, and clear communication have become part of my routine, not just in Table but at home and at work Most importantly, Table has taught me the value of empathy and the impact of small acts of kindness. These lessons have helped me grow with me in everything
What do you think makes a great team/Table?
A great team/Table is built on a strong foundation of trust, respect, and shared purpose. It’s not about individual titles or recognition, but about the collective effort to make a difference Open communication, mutual support, and accountability are key; when everyone feels heard and valued, they bring their best selves to the table.
A great Table embraces diversity of thought and background, knowing that different perspectives strengthen the group. It's also about having fun together, building lasting friendships, and creating a space where people feel they belong. Most importantly, a great Table stays true to its core values: fellowship, service, and the desire to grow, both as individuals and as a group.
How would you motivate a non-member to become part of Round Table?
To motivate a non-member to become part of Round Table, I would focus on sharing the real impact it has had on my own life. Speak from personal experience tell them how it’s helped me grow, the friendships I’ve built, and the sense of purpose I’ve found through community service
Highlight that Round Table is more than just meetings or events; it’s a group of likeminded individuals who support each other while making a tangible difference in their communities
Let them know it’s a place where you can develop leadership skills, expand your network, and be part of something meaningful all while having fun
Invite them to a project or social evening so they can experience the spirit of Table firsthand. Often, once someone sees the energy, camaraderie, and purpose for themselves, they’ll want to be a part of it too
What does our motto Adopt Adapt Improve me to you?
To me personally, the Round Table motto "Adopt, Adapt, Improve" is more than just words it's a mindset that has shaped how I approach both Table life and my personal growth.
Adopt: Means being open to new ideas, traditions, and perspectives welcoming the wisdom and experiences of those who came before me
Adapt: Speaks to the importance of flexibility and learning to navigate challenges with creativity and resilience, especially in a constantly changing world
Improve: Is about always striving to be better not just for myself, but for my club, my community, and the people around me. This motto reminds me that growth is a continuous journey, and through it, we can leave everything we touch better than we found it

On 10 May 2025, Round Table Cradock 37 hosted our annual Golf Day at the Cradock Golf Club.
Preparations for this fantastic event began early in the year, with our members working hard to secure sponsors and organize quality prizes. Thanks to their dedication, we were able to provide prizes for all 16 four-ball teams.
A heartfelt thank you to each of our sponsors, your generous support is crucial to our ability to serve the community
The day kicked off bright and early, with sponsor banners proudly displayed around the clubhouse. We welcomed 64 players to take on the 9-hole course The first tee-off
Following the golf, we hosted a traditional Sokkie for the players and the public Our ladies prepared delicious food to warm everyone up on the chilly evening. Unfortunately, the long day took its toll on many, and the night ended earlier than anticipated. Nevertheless, the event was a success, and we see great potential in repeating it in the future

Round Table has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember My father joined in the early ‘90s just after I was born and went on to chair Kirkwood 78 a few years later. Many of my childhood memories are tied to Round Table events, where I watched my parents actively participate in the camaraderie and traditions that define this organization. Some of the most unforgettable moments include golf days and melodramas memories we still revisit through old recordings today.
Joining Round Table was never a question of "if" but "when" When the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate. I want my children to grow up with the same sense of community, friendship, and giving that shaped me Round Table is more than just an organization; it’s a foundation for lifelong connections and meaningful service.
I’ve never been the most social person by nature, but I never regret a good time. In fact, I had to marry a joller just to make sure I get out more! Table has already pushed me to meet new people people I may never have crossed paths with otherwise. And as I get older, I realize how important it is to give back to the community in a meaningful way Luckily, Kirkwood 78 is filled with incredible individuals who make every effort feel both rewarding and enjoyable
So far, my experience has been nothing short of fantastic. The traditions and formalities in meetings stand strong, but there’s always space for lighthearted moments the occasional joke or sergeant’s straf to keep things lively. My first major event, the steak evening, set the tone for what I knew would be an incredible journey just ask Kelly! We’ve already met people we know will become lifelong friends, and I have no doubt little Graham will find his own mates in time
Life has become busier since joining, but in the best possible way. One thing that stands out is how committed everyone is making an effort to show up and be part of something bigger. That kind of energy is contagious, and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.
A big thank you to Kirkwood 78 for welcoming us into this incredible brotherhood. I won’t let you down, and I can’t wait for the years ahead!

The Pantry
Port Alfred Ladies Circle 29 Revives "The Pantry" at Bathurst Show
With just two weeks' notice, Port Alfred Ladies Circle 29 took on the challenge of bringing back The Pantry tea garden at the Bathurst Agricultural Show transforming a quiet corner into a beautiful tea garden
From deciding what to serve, how to serve it, and who would do what, every member rolled up her sleeves and got involved We brainstormed menus, sourced equipment, and created an operational plan. Then came the action: baking, cooking, packing, setting up, and of course serving and what a response we had! Over just two days, we sold nearly 400 toasted sandwiches, countless slices of what many said was the best chocolate cake ever, delicious lasagnas, and a range of other homemade treats and refreshments It was non-stop, a little crazy, and incredibly rewarding. This was our biggest project yet, and it truly showcased the power of teamwork Huge thanks to Round Table 177 for their crucial support your fridge and card machines kept us running smoothly
With gratitude and chocolate cake, Port Alfred Ladies Circle 29
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
