The Editor WINTER CON!

Looking back to our last conference!

On the weekend of 24 June & 25 June the gentleman from all the representing Tables in STNOFS headed to Klerksdorp for the annual Winter Conference. This year the hosting Table was Matlosane 45 and the meeting was planned to take place at their clubhouse. Upon arrival the vibe was already strong. The fire was burning, the registration was open, and the beers were cold. The Gents soon started to pull-in one by one and before you knew it the meeting was underway. Opening and welcoming was done in a suitable manner an Area Chairman Mike greeted everyone and gave the plans for what laid ahead. The ladies soon departed on their tour, and we could get down to business. We went through the proceedings, and all did their part well. Reports were sufficient and feedback was strong and good. It was clear that all the members were prepared and that the Tables really grew in a strong manner. Sargent at arms were none other than The Angry Scott and he kept everyone on their toes and their mouths warm with his homemade juice. Before long the meeting was closed, and we raised our glasses to a toast. What followed was expected as the smell of chicken was available since the start of the proceedings. The ladies joined and we had a feast like no other in preparation of the night that laid ahead. Jan Albert was the next host, and we all headed towards Otto Street for the other main objective of any conference, the party! The final of the Currie Cup was the welcoming noise and soon we had the chance to mingle and have fun with friends from far and near. Overall, the night was amazing, and the food was terrific. Steaks the size of bricks were prepared, and we all feasted together. Zander blessed and treated us with his music and before long it was turned into an open night karaoke sing along. We were up till late that night and we did not want to go to sleep. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and we had to say our goodnights for now. Sunday morning would entail a quick coffee and a recap of the night before we went our separate ways once again. To the hosting Table and the host of the party, we all want to thank you once again! It was truly remarkable and an unforgettable night. Winter Con was epic and a true testament of what STNOFS is all about!

TRI-AREA ‘23 VAT ‘N BIETJIE POTCH

The time has finally arrived, and we are now officially busy with “Vat ‘n Bietjie Potch”. Welcome to all the guests who are attending Tri Area and Summer Conference. It has seemed like such a long wait, but now we are able to enjoy this marvelous event. We have support from so many Area’s, but the big three are STNOFS, NC, FS. Not only are these three areas involved, but we are also privileged to host the ARTSA Executive council for their ASSCO meetings on this meetup. Their meeting took place at the clubhouse of Potchefstroom 47 and I do believe it was run in a good and proper manner. While they were busy with their corporate and important business, the rest of us party people were having a fun time at the local Rugby club next door. The drinks were sufficient, and the food was cooked to perfection. The smells roamed the air and the sound of music from Zander entertained us all throughout the night. Thanks to the Gents from STNOFS for making sure registration went smoothly and that their drinks were cold at the shooter bar. These guys really gave all their effort in making the first night a massive success.

As you are reading this, you might wonder how it was pulled off to wright an article in the future… The answer is that I managed to anticipate we all would have a good time and that as Tabler’s we would have a party and success of every situation. The weekend, however, has only yet begun. Now that the meetings are done and the hungover hopefully cured, the Saturday forward would build on the spirit of a Tri Area. We are grateful that the ladies had time to enjoy their ladies tour and that they were fed. For us, food was critical as we would most likely drown our livers in a Jägermeister of nine. The venue where the proceedings are taking place is also a true gem of Potchefstroom and that is none other than the Elgro Hotel! We are very fond of this location, and we have also had previous events at the premises. For us it is important to build relationships with the community we live in and to build friendships along the way. As most of you can see, they really play their part and the rooms for the meetings is solid and the food is even better. The halls they use to cater for our parties are always splendid and we are truly grateful for them. From our side, we really hope that you enjoy what we have had to offer!

It was a struggle at first, but I am finding my feet in the process of it all!

The portfolio of PRO has not been the easiest task for me this year. I have learned a lot about myself and about the roles as well. Firstly, I realized it is not always going to be smooth sailing and that things don’t always go your way. Yet you learn how to cope with setbacks and how to keep pushing forward and making a success of it in the end.

To highlight some of my personal achievements is only going to be short, as I try my best to stay humble in my task. I would rather talk about how we as STNOFS grew and made an impact instead of myself taking credit for everything.

Social Media was never something I wasted too much time with, but soon realized and accepted that it is a crucial point to talk and care about. The activity on our Facebook page has increased dramatically this year and we are all responsible for it. Post goes out on a weekly basis, even if it is just a Rondel Friday post. Nevertheless, these regular post and interactivity between the members and followers are very important. It builds the dynamic of the group by sharing and “bragging” about their events, but also shows how we remain involved with our respective communities.

I can honestly say we are shaping up to be who we set out to be and show how we can be a unit to reckon with!

When I mentioned that I was not alone responsible for creating content and sharing content, I did mean it! We have seen many individuals who have pulled up their socks to make their own name appear in the public eye. For instance, we had a massive campaign this year which our Vice Chairman Riaan Greyling handled all by his own prerogative to shine. Campaigns to shine light on mental health where he wrote the script for the members to act out and add personal touches were needed. He also took charge to promote the comradery and fellowship between the clubs and members with fun initiatives to encourage clubs to make content and videos to post.

Another example where my fellow club PRO’s acted was the launch of the 45’s Alive magazine from Matlosane 45. They took their own discretion and made their own content to share their life, events, projects, and memories with the community they live in. It has been a massive success, and we are all amazed and happy with what they have done. They showed us that if you want to, you can and if you have it, show it.

Like you can see in the abovementioned paragraphs, we all help each other to grow for us as an Area to grow. I am super proud of these examples and encourage other Tabler’s to do the same thing. Don’t wait for something to happen, make sure it happens!

Winter Knights have also been a big highlight this year for the STNOFS gents, and all six clubs did a tremendous job. They each made the project their own and showed us all how creative they can be.

I look forward to the next big Area project that will take place in Movember. With various possibilities to choose from, I have no doubt in my mind that we will have great impact again. It is a testimony of our strength to encourage Mental Health and to showcase projects to build us up and to broaden our horizons.

Another big accomplishment I am proud of this year is our Regalia. Not only have STNOFS made some impressive shirts this year, but they have also launched Coins & Pins for the first time in a long time. People really seem to get a kick out of them and that shows us that we can compete with bigger and stronger Area’s. We want to make our mark and put our name out there for all to see. What builds us as an organization is to trade, make memories and form connections with one another.

What was truly remarkable was that even on club level they guys improved their game. Clubs were caught in Regalia fever, and everyone made their own shirts and pins to showcase their brand. This once again shows you that we remain on our goal to shout and talk about what we are proud of and where we are from.

What to expect from the Summer Conference STNOFSie:

For this edition of the STNOFSie the primal focus will be on projects that was run throughout the year, majority of them from the previous STNOFS Conference that took place in June. The articles reflect the Tables and shows a deeper meaning of each club and how they operate within their community and reflect the individual members. This edition is also special since it will contain a list of new members to the RT family and a brief background or article about them. I believe that people attending the Tri Area will also be able to take ideas back to their Area’s and Club’s and build on the format of having a newspaper circulated. Take this and run with it. The idea of the newspaper or magazine is there for us to look back upon what we have done and appreciate the Rondel and Round Table. This is not supposed to be used to wrap plates and glasses for moving, but rather a type of nostalgia gathering all that was done and achieved. I do hope the readers enjoy it and that they will take their time to read through this. Atthoug it may look boring, the deeper look into it will be appreciated in my opinion. So, enjoy this and use this as an opportunity to give new members, or friends and family of Round Table so they can experience the joy and fun together with us. So, without further ado…

What I expect from my fellow STNOFS members and readers, the way forward and the outline:

> Write an article as soon as you take on a project, big or small, we have space for it all. We are all busy in our daily lives, but we should be able to take 30min and write something on how Round Table was involved in your life.

> The STNOFSie is only as good as the content it has, so make sure we keep up the articles. It’s also important to share the content we create

> All the content goes through to the Inkundla as well, so use that as encouragement to improve your writing and articles.

> It would be great to have more personal coverage also, so don’t be shy to add your business or industry in the newspaper/STNOFSie.

> This should be fun and not a punishment… sit back while drinking a Whiskey and use Chat GPT if you have too, it’s available!

The 70th Birthday Celebration with RT17

This is how it all went down! A tale of fellowship & comradery with friend from near and far.

On Saturday the 2nd of September the Round Table Boksburg 17 celebrated their 70th Birthday and acknowledged the fact that for the past 70 years they were active and prosperous in the community. This is a massive celebration and I think it is very important to realize that a Table could stand the test of time by being involved and growing with the help of its members and the people surrounding them.

The Round Table Potchefstroom 47 obviously had to attend this event as the relationship between these two Tables is clearly strong. Also sharing the Nr 7 and it being a party there was really no doubt in skipping this event.

The event was held at the clubhouse of Boksburg 17 and the turnout was terrific. There was various international guest that also attended the event in preparation of the annual Round Table International World Meeting that took place in Cape Town this year, but that is a different story on its own. Many local Tables also attended, and the organizers of RT17 once again managed to gather Tables from all over the country and from 4 different Areas in ARTSA alone.

The night began at a true LEGEND! Egbert Harmse, a past RT47 & RT7 & RT17 member (now a 41er), hosted some Internationals and we had a pre feast of +- 3KG of homemade prawns. We shared stories and got to know each other better before we went over for the official party. Some might be aware that Egbert is very close to the Scottish culture and always enjoys wearing and making genuine and proper kilts and before I knew it, I was dressed in full attire with the necessary traditions and customs in place.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by some good friends and some old friends we met for the first time. The place was decorated with a clear sign of a woman’s touch, and Bea Maizy is the only one who could pull such a thing off! The dynamic between Cuan and his Missis is truly remarkable. The atmosphere was welcoming, and we all immediately felt like we were home. The food was amazing with various courses to be served and again in line with a typical South African party. The drinks were cold and the company good, again I tip my hat to RT17 and the people who managed to pull this off. Cuan and Egbert had the audience on the edge of their chairs as they went through the proceedings and told stories of the rich history of Round Table.

The night came to a closure at a very late time, and friends had to greet each other as they made their way back home. For some it was only a couple of days apart till the RTI World Meeting, but for some it would be a long time apart. As we left, we all realized how great the evening was and saw all the effort that was put in on make this event so spectacular and special.

I want to thank Round Table Boksburg 17 once again for this wonderful evening and congratulate the team on a job well done. I can’t wait to see what they pull of next and will definitely be celebrating with them on their 75th birthday party.

The Hard Way Down to the RTI WM in Cape Town ‘23

Since the Round Table International World Meeting took place in South Africa this year, and it being semi on our back porch, some of the guys from STNOFS came together and decided it would be a great idea to travel to Cape Town by car and make it an unofficial Hard Way Down trip. The plans were not made at all, and I started the trip on Sunday the 3rd of September from Boksburg after a special celebration with RT17 Boksburg and their 70th Birthday party. However, I was not the only person traveling back to the actual starting point in Klerksdorp but rather joined by three Swedes who I now consider Brothers for life. David, Patrick, and Leo had no real idea of what lay ahead for them when we jumped in the car that morning, but they were so tired from our all-night party that they did not really seem to care that much. We were off and ready for our journey ahead. With many stops planned just to get to Klerksdorp the vibe seemed to stay high, and we enjoyed a sunrise next to the road along with a cold beer to stay hydrated. Paris was the next stop and for some reason they expected wine & cheese with a massive circle in the middle of the town… They received another beer and a 10 second stop at the famous Eiffel tower. We then drove over the bridge and was suddenly in the North-West heading to Potchefstroom to visit the Table and the remaining Gents at the RT47 clubhouse. Breakfast was served and some fellowship and comradery took place in Potchefstroom as members spoke to our international friends and had an overall good time with one another. Some beers later and a stomach full of food, the car was driving again towards the general direction of Klerksdorp. I was in full tourist guide mode as we drove and gave stories and history of the South African Texas and answered various questions about our culture and the tin houses that was always on the edge of a town. With it being a short drive between the two towns we stopped at Jan Albert’s house, and we unloaded the luggage. The first situation… As we unloaded and prepared for our trip South, we were informed by Chris from RT117 that we had left a comrade behind. Apparently, our friend Alex from Schychells was also scheduled to travel with us, but we missed communicated that one. Nevertheless, a journey was planned and a journey we shall have. It was agreed that Jan Albert and Chris will meet halfway from Klerksdorp and Northridge to retrieve our lost traveler, while I would take our tree Swedish friends for a “quick” beer at Stilfontein 53. It was anything but quick, but it was massive fun! The Gents from RT53 did exactly what one would do and opened their hearts to these three travelers, and we had an absolute blast. We were soon joined by Alex and Jan Albert and the party was set or was it… We now had a small problem with all the luggage our friends decided to bring with us on the trip and realized it would not fit in the Fortuner (Bravo 1) and plans were needed. Jan Albert and I, with a small chant from our new guests and friends convinced MCee that he needs to come with and enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity. It was approximately after 5 minutes and a fresh drink that he gave in and would drive down with us in his Hilux (Bravo 2). We headed for Mike’s Kitchen in Klerksdorp to finalize the plans and get a proper steak in our bodies with way too many side dishes and made our calculations with one day shorter to travel. At closing time, it was also time to pack and head to the house of Jan Albert for our journey that would hopefully start the next morning early

Monday morning at 06h00 the music was pumping, and we had a coffee as we were ready for our trip. As we work on Table time, it took two hours to pack and load the two vehicles. With us all finally in a car and checking everything 7 times we went off at 08h00 to collect pins and beers and snacks for the long journey ahead of us. We drove 50km when we stopped for the first time at Bona Bona for breakfast overlooking the beautiful nature RSA have to offer, and then we headed on an open vehicle game drive in the predator’s camp to learn more about different cats. The tour guide, Luke, gave us an unforgettable experience of his life managing game and wild cats and enlightened us all with facts and interesting stories. The experience at the game lodge was breathtaking and we left with a smile on our faces and food in our bodies and ready to drive to Kimberly, where we would stop again to stretch legs and fill the cooler boxes with fresh Northen Cape beer. This was, however, a quicker stop and we managed to avoid both loadshedding and peak traffic. We travel down further South and enjoyed the fact that the landscape would slowly but surely change as we drove through the heart of South Africa. Hopetown was soon on the horizon and all we could think was how the town needed more hope… We got fuel at the 3rd station we stopped at and managed to deplete the only butcher in town from all its meat and snacks for our planned dinner. When we arrived in Brits town, we were craving a fresh drink and tasting a bit of dust on the vehicles. We turned off on a gravel road with the plan to cruise to Loxton where we would have our dinner for the evening. The road was pleasant and easy to drive, but we did not consider that it would take us an additional 3 hours on our journey. Stops were made frequently with chances to share a laugh, play some games such as “bokdroll spoeg” and fill up our glasses. There was also an unexpected rabbit that crossed our path, and after 36 years the internationals experienced the true meaning of “Daar K@k ‘n Haas”. We took pictures and enjoyed the clear air as we drove further on in the darkness of the Northen Cape. It was roughly 23h30 when we stopped in Loxton, and again the town seemed deserted. The only streetlight happened to be in front of the church and we opened Bravo 2 and set up the Cadac for a roadside braai. We ate and enjoyed each other’s company with jokes and stories and already so many memories of our trip that took place. With our bodies happy again and the cold getting to us, we travelled again on dusty roads that lead to our overnight or over morning stop before driving to our destination in Cape Town. Sutherland came into our view at the early hours of about 02h00 and we were happy that we could finally call it a day. Upon arrival the guest house manager greeted us and showed us to our rooms with the warm blankets ready and working. The outside temperature was -3 degrees, and the sky was filled with ominous clouds blocking the sky and star life. We were not too bothered as we all wanted to rest and get energized for day two of travelling the hard way. There was an unsynchronized symphony of snoring throughout our unit, and we tried our best to move as often as possible to stay warm. Mcee woke up first and attempted to unload our bags for a quick shower and a clean set of clothes but was quickly brought back into the house with very cold temperatures and snow lying about 3cm over the landscape of Sutherland.

Hard Way Down continues…

We did manage to get some courage eventually and we all got changed and clean for the day’s travel that lay ahead. By roughly 09h00 we were off again and started to look for a gas station with Diesel for the vehicles. Luckily there were only two garages and nr. 2 managed to have full tanks to fill up. With coffee sorted and rusk dished out we headed for Langebaan to witness some of the beautiful wildflowers. After 50km we took a short right on the wrong gravel road we planned the night prior. It should’ve been only 100km but turned out to be 300km + and we were stuck on the path. We stopped frequently for some fun games and pictures along the way and had our first Jägermeister at midday. We knew where the ocean would be, but the mountains blocked our path for a straight shot. At roughly 15h00 we stopped in Ceres and found tar. The SPUR looked appealing, and burgers and beers were served all around. Rain greeted us shortly after we departed again, and the vehicles got a wash on the go. As it being the Western Cape the weather lasted for only about an hour before we got sunshine again. We kept on looking for the flowers, but we mostly saw canola flowers in the farms nearby and hoped with all our luck that Langebaan would have something to offer. The landscape changed again and soon we were in Langebaan where the gusty wind greeted us as the sun set on the horizon. Still no flowers. We had a quick fine session at an old house in the Langebaan nature reserve and was all too happy that the end was near. As darkness made its way through the window of the old house we headed South once more to reach our destination only 100km away. Final beers circulated the two cars as we neared Cape Town, and again I tried my best to play tour guide with my screen locked on Wikipedia. The lights of the city were bright, and traffic soon picked up. The drive was smooth and chilled due to the rules of the province with the average speed cameras in place. We were officially in Cape Town and made our way to Hotel Sky to drop of our guests and get them checked in. Once we stopped there was an abundance of Tablers all over the show and we had one final shot in the parking lot as we unloaded our dusty and damp luggage from Bravo 2. We said our goodbyes and traded pins knowing we would see each other again the following morning, but the bond was strong, and we all graved the next long night and darkness of the road in front of us. To summarize the trip would be very difficult in a couple of words, but I do believe this pretty much sums it up. It was FANTASTIC! We partied plenty on the trip down and at the event, but we know which one we all preferred. The drive down took us through so many wonderful and breathtaking scenery filled with passes, mountains, wildlife and so much more. The guys were amazed, and I am certain that they would join STNOFS again for the hard way down to ARTSA 2024. We did drive back afterward as well, but I do believe some stories should be kept between the travelers only. We put a lot of miles on our odometers but each one was worth it and would be remembered for a long time to come. Thanks again to our international friends and for driving with us. You did truly bless us with your presence, and we are grateful for the HARD WAY DOWN…

A Journey of Discovery and Connection

The crisp morning air of September 3rd marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. Jan-Albert De Kock's convincing invitation to join him on an adventure to the RTI World Meeting set the stage for a week filled with unforgettable experiences. Our expedition commenced from Klerksdorp on a Monday morning. A pitstop at Bona Bona for breakfast and an exhilarating game drive introduced us to the captivating world of Africa's predators in their natural habitat. The diversity of wildlife left an indelible mark on our hearts. As we continued our route to Sutherland, we made several captivating stops, culminating in a late-night arrival, finding my truck blanketed in snow.

The real excitement, however, was reserved for the RTI World Meeting conference, which began on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023. The opening event was nothing short of spectacular, offering me a chance to connect with fellow attendees from across the globe. We swapped stories, exchanged pins and coins, and revealed in the company of likeminded individuals. The performances by Francois van Coke and Christoph Kotze (Appel) added a delightful musical touch to the evening.

Thursday afternoon unfolded into a global culinary adventure. Food tables representing regions from around the world showcased their delectable dishes and drinks. Attendees received passports to stamp at each table, making the experience not only delicious but also interactive. Though the shots served were a tad overwhelming, they added to the overall camaraderie.

After a day of recuperation on Friday, we ventured out to explore local clubhouses. Although our initial plan was to visit multiple, we eventually settled at Durbanville and revealed in the atmosphere until closing time. The following morning, we embarked on an adventure of a different kind – a hike up Table Mountain via the "Platteklip" route. While I had grand intentions of conquering this natural wonder, I soon realized the trail's unforgiving steepness. After a valiant but ultimately futile effort, I opted for the cable car, where I patiently awaited my fellow adventurers at the summit.

This entire journey was a tapestry of wonderful experiences that I wouldn't trade for anything. From the breathtaking landscapes to the people I met and the cultural exchanges, the memories created during my first RTI World Meeting will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was a journey of discovery, connection, and adventure that left an indelible mark on my life.

Memorable RTI WM Experience IN CPT

CARLETONVILLE 50

In the picturesque backdrop of Cape Town, South Africa, the Round Table International World Meeting unfolded from September 6th to September 9th, 2023. This global gathering of Round Table members showcased impeccable organization and hospitality that left attendees, including the four members attending their first World Meeting from Carletonville50, thoroughly impressed. It was not just an event; it was the experience of a lifetime. The journey began on September 6th when participants from around the world arrived in Cape Town. From the very outset, the event's organization and coordination were nothing short of exceptional. The hospitality extended from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. This seamless service set the tone for what would be a remarkable event. For us four members from Carletonville50, this was not just an ordinary gathering. We were part of the ground team for three days, an opportunity that we will cherish. It was a privilege to be involved in the behind-the-scenes efforts that made this event a resounding success. The dedication and hard work of all the teams were evident in the smooth execution of various activities throughout the conference. One of the most remarkable aspects of the World Meeting is the sense of camaraderie and friendship it fosters. This event transcends borders, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and countries. As one attendee remarked, "You meet friends for life from so many different countries." Indeed, the bonds formed at such gatherings are enduring and transcend geographical boundaries. The event was not just about meetings and discussions; it was a celebration of international unity and collaboration. Attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and gain insights from their counterparts from across the globe. These interactions enriched the knowledge and perspectives of everyone present, creating a dynamic atmosphere of learning and growth. In addition to the insightful sessions and discussions, the World Meeting featured a vibrant cultural exchange. Participants had the chance to experience the rich heritage of South Africa through cultural performances, local cuisine, and tours of Cape Town's iconic landmarks. These experiences added an extra layer of richness to the event, making it truly unforgettable. As the meeting drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of anticipation for the next gathering. In 2024, the World Meeting is scheduled to take place in the Netherlands. The prospect of meeting even more international guests and deepening the connections made in Cape Town has left attendees eagerly looking forward to the next chapter in this remarkable journey. In conclusion, the World Meeting hosted in Cape Town was a testament to the power of international cooperation and friendship. It showcased exceptional organization, offered a platform for meaningful discussions, and created lasting bonds among attendees. For us four from Carletonville 50 who were part of this, it was a privilege, and for everyone who attended, it was an experience they will carry with them for a lifetime. The World Meeting is not just an event; it's a global celebration of unity and friendship.

Nation Night Winners at the RTI WM!!!

On Thursday the 7th of September the RTI WM Nations’s night took place at the old castle in Cape Town. This event showcased forty-five different countries & nationalities that displayed food and drink that makes them unique and stand out. These numerous food stalls that were represented brought together the feeling of the culture within each country and to say the least all of them understood the assignment and went all out! With South Africa hosting this event, Areas within the country joined forced to compete in the RTI Potjie Competition. Teams were split into six members and the Central Tri Area consisted of STNOFS, Northen Cape and Free State. The Central Tri Area was led by Chantel Menezes, wife of STNOFS Area Chairman Mike Menezes and their stall had an absolutely wonderful Beef Potjie. They fed more than a hundred people and they made sure to cater for everyone while having an absolutely great vibe present as well With no surprise at all, the Central Tri Area won the Potjie competition with ease and was also considered the best food stall present at the nation night. This is a massive achievement to be recognized as the best cooks with the best food on an international scale. R 10 000 was allocated to the winning team, which will be split between the three areas involved. The trophy will also be used as a floating trophy to promote and encourage fellowship and comradery between the Central Tri Area. It was presented to President Louis Radley and will become public at the Central Tri Area Summer Conference 2023 in Potchefstroom.

Once STNOFS. Always STNOFS. The Reinhardt Hauptfleisch Story!

He goes by the name of HOPPIES, that is what his friends and RT family call him, a past member of Matlosane 219 and the perfect example of what it means to be a Tabler. This STNOFS oak recently moved to the lush and wet Cape Town where he and his wife is currently staying in a town called Belleville. Although his heart will always be in the STNOFS Area, he’s now an active member of the Durbanville Round Table 165. During the past RTI World Meeting that took place in Cape Town, he has proved that there is no task that a STNOFS gentleman would not take on. Firstly, he opened up his home to three gents from STNOFS and home hosted them for their stay during the event. He made sure they were warm, fed and entertained during their stay and was always eager to assist in any way he could. Secondly, he is making an impact and a name for himself in his new residing Table by being involved and offering up his hand where needed. On the Friday night Clubhouse party night, did he man the bar and catered to everyone’s need first. The place was run well, and he ensured that the vibe was lively, and the surrounding was clean. He did more than that which was expected of him because he wanted to do it and play his role with great passion. Thirdly, he managed to climb Table Mountain for three consecutive days to be the hosting party for the international guests who wanted to see the breathtaking views. He never complained about the physical strain he had to encounter and treated each day’s hike as a new and exciting project. From leading the pack, to sweeping those on the back, he done it without breaking his back! He was the tour guide and entertainer for every participant on those steep steps to the top. Although he misses his comrades back home, he does not show any sign of regret or sorrow. He adopted his life in his new surroundings and is continuously trying to improve his personal and Table career. He adapted somewhat to the weather but fully in his new chapter in Durbanville 165. He speaks up and is involved no matter what. He brings insight and light to his new community and does so with a smile. Improving each day on the one before and focusing on the next to do so again. This is a true testament of how a Tabler should act in any situation. Regardless of anything, look for the positive things out there and make the situation better. It is an absolute honor and a privilege to call this man my firnd and brother, and I do believe we all feel the same. The fact that remains is that he will always be a STNOFS Boy and in his heart he believes it too. We all mis you dearly but we are all super proud of you and wish you all the best in your time to come. Thank you for giving us hope when we are down, directions when we are lost, and insight when it is needed. Stick to your roots, but in the same breath spread your wings and fly! The Gentleman from Matlosane 45 getting comfortable on the couches as they prepare to get the Woman’s Day activities going. Knowing that their ladies are special they need all the energy they can get to cater to all their needs and make sure that they are treated well on this special day. It’s truly remarkable to see that the entire squad rocked up to show their love and care for their special significant others. Well done Gents for acting ons this marvelous day and putting in the effort to go the extra mile. We don not always realize how important our ladies are, but you took the time to showcase it. We hope that you enjoyed it greatly and that the ladies also saw the small details you did to make their day special!

MATLOSANE 45’s Woman’s Day Braai!

The Gents from M45 treating their ladies and making them feel special.

Let me tell you about the adventures of Matlosane 45 that happened on one unforgettable Tuesday night. Now, picture this: a bunch of grown men, fresh out of a never-ending business meeting at the ungodly hour of 2 am, suddenly struck by a brilliant idea. A braai! Yes, you read that right, a good ol’ South African Braai!

But here’s the kicker – it was on Women’s Day. You know that day when all the guys are supposed to be pampering their ladies and showing off their chef skills by whipping up something fancy in the kitchen. Well, not us. We’re rebels, and we wanted meat and fire, damn it!

So, with the craziness that is our brotherhood, we decided to plan this braai for the very next day. Now, you might think that a weekday would deter most folks, what with work, responsibilities, and the need to pretend we can actually adult. But here’s where the tale takes a twist. Behold, the very next day, at a respectable 3 pm (yes, we were all still in recovery mode from the business meeting), every single Matlosane 45 member and their families descended upon Ryno’s place like a horde of hungry carnivores. And what were we wearing, you ask? Our proud grey “45 is alive” T-shirts, of course!

You could practically feel the camaraderie in the air, mixed with the scent of sizzling boerewors. It was like a bizarre family reunion, complete with laughter, playful banter, and maybe even a few exaggerated hunting stories.

What struck me most was the strength of the bonds we’ve formed in Matlosane 45. We’re not just a group of guys who meet occasionally; we’re a tight-knit family that shows up for each other, even after latenight business shenanigans. Ryno’s place transformed into a haven of fellowship, where stories were shared, kids were fed, and the spirit of unity shone brightly.

So, here’s to Matlosane 45 – a bunch of misfits, daredevils, and absolute legends who don’t care about societal norms when there’s a fire to be lit and glasses to be filled . Thanks, Ryno, for letting us take over your home again, and here’s to many crazier, laughter-filled days that remind us how awesome this brotherhood truly is.

Table is the reason we do what we do, and we do what we do because of Table. The two components can only work with each other and for that we are grateful.

“Tables can’t stand without legs, and Tabler’s can’t stand without their ladies by their side. ”

Collaboration for GOOD in the community.

Matlosane 45 joining forces with a local motorcycle riding club…

Melcolm vd Spuy

Matlosane 45 joined forces with the “Dead Men Riding” Christian motorcycle club to extend a helping hand to an informal settlement nestled between Orkney and Klerksdorp. This settlement, home to around 70 individuals, mainly consisted of white residents residing on a plot. The stark reality of poverty they faced stirred our compassion, compelling us to make a difference in their lives.

As we embarked on this journey of kindness, we pooled our resources to offer a multifaceted support system to these resilient souls. On our end, we contributed blankets and stationery, items that would provide comfort and educational opportunities. But the collaboration didn’t stop there; the "Dead Men Riding" club, fueled by the same spirit of benevolence, came forward with a remarkable donation of not just one, but two bakkie loads of food.

The Impact of this combined effort was undeniable. Together, we sought to address both immediate needs and long-term aspirations. Our collaboration underscored the notion that unity can break barriers and extend the reach of our goodwill.

Arriving at the informal settlement was a humbling experience.

Witnessing the genuine smiles and gratitude of those we were there to support was a reminder that our efforts, no matter how big or small, can have a profound impact on the lives of others.

As blankets and stationery were distributed, a sense of warmth and hope enveloped the settlement. The provision of food through the generosity of the "Dead Men Riding" club not only filled empty stomachs but also touched hearts, proving that compassion truly knows no bounds.

In this joint endeavor, Matlosane 45 and the “Dead Men Riding” club demonstrated the power of collaboration and the strength that arises when individuals with a shared purpose come together.

The easiest way to go forward is one step at a time. The same goes for helping each other.

The impact of our combined efforts went far beyond the physical items we provided – it resonated in the connections we forged, the stories we shared, and the profound sense of unity that prevailed.

This collaboration wasn’t just about giving; it was about reaching out, bridging gaps, and fostering a sense of belonging for those who needed it most. It showcased the incredible potential we all have to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, regardless of backgrounds or circumstances.

As we returned from this humbling experience, we carried with us not just memories of the day, but a renewed commitment to continue seeking out opportunities to uplift those around us. It’s a reminder that when hearts unite, there’s no limit to the positive change we can bring to the world.

Martin Bester’s Farm Festival:

Collecting goods with the help of the public & other Table’s.

Melcolm vd Spuy

Matlosane 45, in partnership with the local tables in Pretoria, recently organized a remarkable event with the noble aim of providing warmth and comfort to the underprivileged during the harsh winter season. The response we received from the community was nothing short of astounding, as we managed to collect an impressive 2000 plus blankets, thanks to the generosity and support of individuals like you. The event was a shining example of the power of unity and collaboration as we joined forces with other tables to make a significant impact. Together, we gathered an abundance of blankets that will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need them most.

As part of our Winter Knights program, Matlosane 45 took our share of 300 blankets that will be distributed in the coming weeks to individuals and families in need. These blankets will provide much-needed warmth and comfort during the coldest winter nights, reminding those who receive them that they are not alone in their struggles.

We are incredibly grateful to every person who contributed to this heartwarming initiative. Your generous donations are a testament to the spirit of compassion and empathy that exists within our community. Each blanket collected represents a warm embrace, a gesture of support and care for those facing challenging circumstances.

At Matlosane 45, we are driven by a deep commitment to making a positive impact in our community. The Winter Knights program is just one of the ways we strive to create a brighter and more inclusive future for all. By coming together and extending a helping hand to those in need, we are building a community where everyone feels supported and valued.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the local tables in Pretoria for collaborating with us on this meaningful project Your support and dedication have been instrumental in the success of this endeavour.

“The fullness of life is only accessible in the present moment.”

Together, we have shown that when we unite for a common cause, we can achieve extraordinary results.

As we move forward, let us continue to embrace the spirit of giving, empathy, and unity. Together, we can create a community where warmth and care are extended to all, ensuring that no one is left to face the winter chill alone.

Blood & Booz Drive

Melcom vd Spuy

Let me share a hilarious and heartwarming adventure we had at Matlosane 45. Picture this: all eight of us, the dynamic crew of Matlosane 45, decided to embark on a blood donation extravaganza at our local South African National Blood Service (SANBS) center this winter. And boy, did we make quite the memorable impression!

We recognized the urgent need for blood during this chilly season, and as a tight-knit team, we were eager to make a difference. With our sleeves rolled up and spirits high, we strutted into the SANBS center, ready to donate our life-saving elixir.

But here’s the twist: our blood drive adventure wasn’t just about us. We’ve decided to take it up a notch and want to turn it into a friendly challenge for the other tables in the STNOFS area for the next Blood drive. We’re on a mission to see who can donate the most blood in the upcoming blood drive, which we’ll proudly host at our very own clubhouse. May the best table win!

Now, back to the hilarious part. Our hero of the day was none other than Ettiene. Oh boy, did he give us a moment of panic! As he reclined in the donation chair, his eyes began to roll back, and before we knew it, he passed out cold! Talk about dedication! But fear not folks, Ettiene’s superhero spirit prevailed, and he bravely continued his donation once he regained consciousness. We salute you, Ettiene!

We couldn’t be prouder of everyone who stepped up and contributed to this life-saving cause. It’s truly inspiring to witness the collective effort and impact we can make when we come together. Saving lives while having a good laugh? Now that’s what I call teamwork!

So, to all our fellow tables and community members, get ready for the upcoming blood drive challenge! Let’s show our strength, camaraderie, and a dash of friendly competition as we roll up our sleeves to save lives.

A big shout-out to all those who support blood donation and help us make a difference. You’re the true superheroes in this story. I promised all the guys a beer afterwards and held up my end of the bargain. The typical Pint for a Pint type of thing. Stay tuned for more updates on our quest to save lives and bring a touch of humor to the world of blood drives!

Round Tabler's Son and Friends of POTCH 47 Give Back to the Community!

In the heart of Limpopo, on a chilly weekend in July, a group of dedicated individuals embarked on a hunting trip that would not only create lasting memories but also touch the lives of hundreds of children in need. Led by a Round Tabler and joined by his son and a group of compassionate friends of the Potch 47 Round Table, this adventure became a remarkable example of camaraderie, achievement, and community impact.

Among the hunting party was an 8-year-old boy Diego Menezes, the son of Potch 47 Round Tabler Mike Menezes. This expedition marked a special moment in his life as he aimed his sights and successfully shot his first buck. The sheer joy and sense of accomplishment radiated from him, serving as a testament to the importance of fostering a love for nature and instilling values of responsibility and conservation in the younger generation.

However, this hunting trip was about more than just personal achievements. Potch 47 Round Table has always emphasized the significance of not only having members but also building meaningful friendships beyond its ranks. The friends of Potch 47 who joined the hunting excursion exemplified this belief by their presence and their actions.

Recognizing the abundance of game they had acquired during their expedition; the friends of the Potch 47 made an extraordinary decision. Instead of keeping the meat for themselves, they unanimously agreed to donate all of it to Safe Haven, a local feeding scheme in Potch that feeds hundreds of children every week. This act of generosity amounted to over 400 kilograms of meat, with an approximate value of R30,000. The impact of this donation cannot be understated, as it will nourish and bring joy to the lives of numerous children who rely on Safe Haven's support.

This hunting trip served as a powerful reminder of Round Table's core values: fellowship, inclusivity, and making a positive difference in the community. By blending the thrill of the hunt with a deep sense of social responsibility, Potch 47 friends demonstrated the essence of what it means to be part of this remarkable organization. Their actions highlighted the profound impact that can be achieved when members and friends of Round Table come together for a common purpose.

The hunting trip to Limpopo was an adventure filled with personal triumph, camaraderie, and selflessness. Through a future Tablers first successful hunt and the generous donation of game meat to Safe Haven, this group of individuals showcased the true spirit of Round Table. Their actions not only enriched their own lives but also touched the lives of countless children in need. This heartwarming story serves as an inspiration for others to embrace the values of friendship and achieving impactful change in the Potch community.

Wheelchair donation to a person in need, executed by the members of V20 & Pipeliner.

Round Table Vereeniging 20 received a requested from a 41er in Klerksdorp to assist a family member in need of wheelchair

Our newest pipeliner Johan Engelbrecht made a few call and within minutes we were able to acquire secondhand wheelchair in very good condition and we were able to distribute the wheelchair the following day, it just shows you that it’s not what you know but who you know.

Vereeniging 20 is very proud of the work we have done in such a short notice and that an impact can be made outside our area.

Well done Yayehnaa and Pieter

Hospital Bed donation to a person in need, executed by the members of V20 & Pipeliner.

Vereeniging 20 received a request from a random phone call from a family that was in need of a hospital bed for a gentleman that had suffered a stroke not long ago

The current bed he was using was causing bed sores and needed a bed to assist with the long bed rest needed, our newest pipeliner Johan Engelbrecht and friend of Table Innes Erasmus made easy work of acquiring a bed from a doctors network group whereby beds are donated for these cases.

The family were overjoyed and thanked us profusely...this just goes to show that not everyone can make a difference but when we can it goes further than we expect...

STNOFS Council Raiding RT Sasolburg 41

The day was Thursday 27 July. Objectives for the evening was to go and raid Sasolburg 41 on their Meeting. Council members of the STNOFS Area was the raiding party… We gathered at Mike, The Big Chief’s house shortly after work to refresh our mouth’s and to hydrate our bodies. The intention of this trip was clear and planned out in advance, to go and brainstorm and think of ways to organize the annual STNOFS Mass Raid. When the time came closer, the seven of us jumped in Mike’s Kombi and met Riaan there along with the members of V20 & S41. It was a difficult task, but we kept the pitstops to a minimum of only three. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a true Tabler welcome. The vibe and atmosphere were already alive at their meeting point, which is the bowls club in Sasolburg. Proceedings soon followed with Sargent Thys ready to keep us all in place, with his usual mix of canned sweets and international beverage that is most likely petrol abroad. Chairman of the meeting, who was Stefan “Pief” Louw, made sure that it was run in an efficient manner and that no time is wasted by debating or arguing out of place. The members of S41 & the Council of STNOFS made a clear effort to establish clear guidelines for the Mass Raid and put the plans in place. Overall contribution was welcomed, and we soon formed the strategy we would follow to make this happen. Closure was swift and attendees of the meeting thanked everyone present and gave solid feedback and compliments. We then indulged in a terrific supper prepared by the hosting Table and further discussions and brainstorming followed. It was net time to greet and part ways as we headed back to Potchefstroom to face the following morning, which was only a couple of hours away. Riaan kept us entertained with karaoke videos shared on the group as he travelled alone, and then we knew the purpose of the trip was executed in a sufficient manner. In an open platform I again want to thank Sasolburg 41 for hosting us and for making the evening a success. We all see the commitment and dedication you guys put into your club and are excited for the next big one. Good luck on your journey and remain as humble as you are. It is truly remarkable to see how involved you are in your community, and also impressive to comprehend how big your international relationships stretch Sasolburg 41, we acknowledge and thank you!

STNOFS Area Second Council Meeting: Hosted by Carletonville 50

With the year going by so swiftly, it is sometimes difficult to make time for every little thing that is going on… Luckiliy the Gents from STNOFS know the purpose of Round Table and the toll it might take on you. Nevertheless, on the 19th of August, the Area headed towards Carletonville to attend the second Area Council meeting for the term. The guys really rocked up with numbers, and many Tables brought guest and pipeliners to attend the day of business. Potchefstroom 47 stood with an old tradition and had a quick roadside “braai” on their way to line their stomach’s and to build a vibe beforehand. Upon arrival in Carletonville, majority of the members were lost, as the thought is would be at their usual business location. It was soon clear that the majority of the members also did not read the fine print, and it was clearly stipulated where the meeting would take place. All in good spirit, they made it to the Workshop and was ready to get down to business. The venue where this all would take place was absolutely splendid and perfect for this special event. It had everything we would require and most importantly the bar was open and stocked with all the right stuff. When we got the show on the road, everyone knew what was expected of them and gave clear and meaningful reports or feedback. This was also the launch of the new regalia that would be available at the Central Tria Area and the people were really enjoying it. Food is always something to mention and it this case should almost be mentioned twice. Homemade burgers and chips that was really something to wright about. Memories were made and impactful change was reached. The youngsters got a better feeling of what it is all about and had the opportunity to talk to other Tables to find out what makes them tick. Like the 41 er’s would say… Table outside your four walls of the clubhouse. Although this was the main purpose of the journey, for some it did not stop there. Melcolm form M45 was very eager to celebrate his upcoming birthday and majority of the members headed to the Stroom to join this marvelous celebration and enjoy a beautiful defeat against Argentina in the Rugby. To the members of Carletonville 50, we tip our caps and thank you for being such a generous host. It was a true testament of what you stand for and represent. It also shows the passion, dedication, and commitment from all those who attended the meeting.

STNOFS MASS RAID: Hosted by S41 & V20

This year it was Vereeniging 20 & Sasolburg 41 to host the event

The Editor Mass Raid’s are there to encourage members all over the area to involve new prospects in our activities and to shine light on what we do. It is a means to grow the organization and to build stronger relationships with each other. The idea is to go forward together, as a strong reliable team.

Wenessday 23 August marked D-Day as it was time for the men from all their respective clubs to get in their vehicles and drive to the annual STNOFS MASS RAID. This year it was held at the Horse and River and the hosting Table’s was V20 & S41. From the moment people arrived, the vibe was lively and the atmosphere uplifting. We were surrounded by a majority of Tables and even surrounded with more friend. The sound of conversations and laughter quickly filled the air as people moved in closer to the focal point of the evening. It was also a big privilege for us to have Stefan Grobler, Past Past ARTSA President there to MC the event. It is also a special touch that he was a former STNOFS Tabler himself, residing back in Carletonville 50. There were also attendees from the Gauteng Area and Bushveld Area there to join in on the festivities. The fact that we hosted the event at a public place was also truly remarkable, as we had the opportunity to ask random individuals if they would be willing to wait and listen for a bit as we delivered speeches and feedback of Round Table in general. The turnout was breathtaking, and we were all super impressed with what V20 & S41 achieved. Public citizens were curious and wanted to know more, and the platform to learn was available to them. It was even more special to some than others as there was an induction at the event. Johan, who was at the beginning a prospect of Vereeniging 20, got inducted on the spot by none other than Past Past ARTSA President Stefan Grobler. You could see in his eyes and his heart that he was ready for this moment and that he truly appreciated it. In conclusion, the Mass Raid of STNOFS was once again a massive success this year and we thank all those involved!

My Journey to Round Table & Experience

My name is Jean-Paul Olivier, and this is how my journey with the Round Table started:

I sent an email reaching out to the Round Table Potchefstroom 47. My uncle was a part of RT in Secunda 231, and he tagged me on Facebook on a few posts of the Round Table 47 Potchefstroom. I decided to contact the Round Table to find out more and to learn what it is all about. I was nervous when they invited me to my first Social Meeting, because I did not know what to expect We did a Soup Drive for my first Project at Round Table 47 and we call it the “Hobo Safari”. It was a coalition project with Winter Nights, which is a national project within the country. It was heartwarming for me to observe that there were a few people that really did need the bit of food and warm clothes. This was the first time I saw that these members really help where they can and try to make a change. I was surprised by how personal some members take their duties, and on my first business meeting I saw that discussion around the Table can get intense, especially if opinions differ. It showed me that they really care and that these activities and meetings were important to them.

The best for me must be that it does not matter what, the men around this table will support each other even though it was not their preferred method of running a project. They will still stand by each other and assist in any way possible.

My Journey into Round Table: From friendship to Making a Difference

Joining an organization can often be a pivotal moment in one's life, marking the beginning of new friendships, meaningful experiences, and a sense of community. For me, my induction into Round Table was exactly that - a transformative experience that opened doors to a world of camaraderie and service.

Entering a new social organization can be an exhilarating experience, filled with anticipation and excitement. For many, being inducted into a group like Round Table is not just an initiation but rite of passage into a vibrant world of friendship, community service, and personal growth. In this article, I'll take you through my induction journey into Round Table, sharing some of the incredible moments, values, and fellowships I have encountered along the way.

My journey into Round Table began with a simple invitation. By attending an opening night of Round Table, Jukskei 217 introduced me to the organization. I was invited to my first social meeting by the chairman of Potchefstroom 47. The prospect of joining a group of likeminded individuals committed to community service and fostering meaningful connections instantly appealed to me. Little did I know that this would mark the start of a life-changing adventure.

The induction process into Round Table is designed to make newcomers feel welcome and part of the family from day one, which is exactly how I would describe my experience. From the moment I first walked into the clubhouse, I felt a sense of belonging. The table members were warm and welcoming as well as eager to share their experiences and insights. This journey involved learning about the organization's history, values, and various projects. It was clear that Round Table takes its commitment to service seriously.

I have always been one to give back to those in need and Round Table has provided me with that opportunity time and time again. Once we experience the joy of giving without expecting anything in return, it changes who we are. As Winston S. Churchill once said “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give “. I look forward to being a member of this amazing organization

My experience as a guest to a pipeliner at Round Table Matolsane 45.

Firstly, something about me, I am an owner of a brokerage, focusing on shortterm and crop insurance mostly in the Agriculture Market.

I am 32 years old, married to a wonderful wife and in January became the proud father of a beautiful baby boy.

I enjoy a good braai, hunting, golf and expanding my network through social events.

I attended a social meeting in 2022 and I was intrigued with the whole concept of brotherhood and community. I did not really have the time to join at that stage and always regretted not getting more involved. I really enjoyed the experience.

I received a call to join a social meeting this year and the culture and energy at Matlosane 45 was just infectious. I immediately jumped on the opportunity to get involved. Being a person who works from home and not having a lot of colleagues, this was the perfect way for me to socialize with likeminded individuals.

There is an extremely tight bond between the members, and they know how to have a good time while being productive.

Matlosane 45 truly represents the values of the Round Table. It is very inspiring to see young men giving up their time and effort to help others without expecting anything in return.

It is nice to enjoy a drink with people who are having a positive effect on the community rather than just moping around and complaining about the issues we all face.

I have had a wonderful time attending the social and business meetings.

I had a lot of fun at the winter conference, which gave me a better understanding of what Round Table was all about.

I was recently inducted as Piper liner, and I am excited to launch a project and to be involved in everything Matlosane 45 and Round Table are involved with.

Watch this space because 45 is well and truly alive!

MATLOSANE 45: Key of Friendship

Traditions formed by the newly merged club of Matlosane & Klerksdorp

Melcolm vd Spuy

In the annals of Matlosane 45, there's a revered relic known as the "Key of Friendship." This key, adorned with countless stories, embodies the spirit of camaraderie within our table. Each time it changes hands, it carries with it a unique narrative of friendship.

However, the tale of M-Cee Smith and the "Key of Friendship" is one for the ages a story of genuine friendship with a touch of humor that only real-life escapades can provide.

It all began on a Saturday, when a merry group of 45 members, including myself, embarked on an adventure to Hennies Pub and Grill. Beers flowed, laughter echoed, and life was good. But as the night wore on, the ladies decided it was time to depart, leaving me behind with nothing but my bag of clothes.

Fast forward through a few more beers and a series of unanswered calls, and I found myself at the mysterious Snowflake building in Potchefstroom, accompanied by our new friends from the night's escapades.

As the evening took a rather unexpected turn, I managed to step on a broken glass bottle, turning the floor into a Horror-inspired masterpiece of blood. Most folks would have thrown in the towel at this point. Every one left and I thought I am going to be stranded in Potch, without a Girlfriend, money and even my bag of clothes. But not M-Cee!! With a steadfast commitment that can only be found in true friends, he stuck by my side, assuring me that everything would be just fine because, you know, a slightly inebriated person with a bloody foot in Potchefstroom without transportation or a place to crash is just peachy. We may never fully understand how we made it through that night, but one thing was crystal clear: M-Cee Smith earned that "Key of Friendship" with flying colors. His unwavering support and unwieldy adventures make for a story that we'll laugh about for years to come. Cheers to true friends and the keys they earn along the way!

Potchefstroom is a university town located on the edge of the Nort West and could be considered as POTCH VEGAS! It is not always safe, and you might do something you will regret… However, the memories made there are forever, and the fun is everlasting.

When in doubt, rely on a Tabler to either help you home or drink further into the night with you.

THE HARD WAY DOWN TO WORLD MEETING 2023 – Cape Town

The hard way tours had its inaugural tour in 2016 to the Margate ARTSA, since then we have kept on enjoying the road less traveled to our yearly table events, it is filled with scenic views, memorable moments, and stories full of laughter.

Wouter Dreyer and I decided to keep this spirit of wanderlust and take the road less travelled to the RTI WORLD MEETING in CAPE TOWN, this the unofficial hard way, as we called it, was planned to bring two fellow Tablers closer and create an everlasting bond.

We started to lay out our traveling plans and what we hoped to experience. With our starting point and arrival point securely marked on the map, the in between needed to be laid out. The Karoo with its vast open plains, clean air, and endless gravel roads, opened endless possibilities for us to explore.

Filled with potential and knowing our capacity it was decided, “we wing it” , “take it as it comes” , or most famous from fast and furious “we going to plan B” , there were never a plan B,C or D, just going with the flow.

And this become very true on the Wednesday before our Sunday departure as we were contacted by some international Tablers going to the WORLD MEETING but did not have the means to get there, the two-legged karoo slaying dragon became a patzi of 5 wandering travellers filled with lust for the unknown. Then the Friday before the initial Sunday departure date we were contacted by yet another wandering Tabler in need of some scenic travels, we were up to 6.

With this new development our 7-seater vehicle would not suffice, with solutions being that we hook up a trailer or convince another Tabler to join in the tour with a second vehicle. To our delight fellow Tabler M-Cee came to our rescue, this bringing our fellowship to 7, “the fellowship of the rondel”.

Our departure day pushed by a day, hitting the road on Monday morning, first stop liquor store for the long hard way ahead. We then stopped at BONA BONA for a breakfast and took our guests on a predator drive and having a cold beer before hitting the road again. Next stop Kimberly for our guests to get some shopping done. We improvised and decided to stay on the N12 to Britstown before going off the beaten track. With a beautiful sunset behind the lonely Karoo hills, and a brandy and PineNut we were ready for the night shift and gravel roads. We had a few close calls and one encounter with the wild animals also roaming the gravel roads. This created some excitement for our guest and surely a fun story to tell. Dinner braai at 11pm in Loxton and some refuelling for the tired bodies, we look the road on our final stretch for the 1st day to Sutherland where we arrived at 1:30 am the Tuesday.

Day 2, waking up at 7am to a very cold and snowy Sutherland, and ready to do some more exploring of our beautiful country, and at our first chance took the turn that leads to the road less travelled. We came to a rock plain with a stream and a small bridge, here we skipped some rocks and had a few laughs together. Having a late breakfast in Ceres, we were back on blacktop and zooming through the passes to Langebaan.

Our final stretch from Langebaan to the home base of the WORLD MEETING sky hotel, we arrived at 7pm with all of us filled with excitement for the event that we are here to attend. This unofficial hard way became a true fellowship of Tablers.
