Behind the scenes of the Inkundla and the message behind it all

Fromthedeskof theInkundlaEditor

As we gather to celebrate Heritage Day this month, we are reminded of the vibrant tapestry that makes up the South African spirit This edition of Inkundla is dedicated to the essence of who we are as a nation a people rich in diversity, yet bound together by a shared commitment to community, growth, and unity.

In every corner of our country, we see the power of helping one another, an inherent trait that lies at the heart of our culture Whether it’s extending a hand to a neighbor in need or rallying around a community project, South Africans embody the spirit of ubuntu “I am because we are ” It’s this spirit that not only defines our heritage but also propels us forward, reminding us that our strength lies in our togetherness.

We also celebrate the warmth and welcoming nature that South Africans are known for No matter where you come from, you can always find a place here, a home away from home It’s in the friendly smiles on the street, the shared meals around a table, and the open arms with which we greet both old friends and new acquaintances This inclusivity is a cornerstone of our heritage, making our nation a mosaic of cultures and stories.

Sport, too, has always been a unifying force in our country Whether it’s the roar of a stadium during a rugby match, the shared excitement of a soccer game, or the quiet concentration on a cricket pitch, we connect through sports in a way that transcends our differences. These moments of triumph and heartbreak, victory and defeat, are shared experiences that knit us closer together, reminding us of our common passion and pride

Lastly, our journey is one of continuous learning, growing, and improving. Our heritage is not just about where we come from, but where we are going. We learn from our past, we celebrate our progress, and we strive to build a future that honors our roots while embracing new possibilities Each step we take is a testament to our resilience and our collective commitment to making a difference

This Heritage Day, let us celebrate not just our individual cultures and traditions, but the unique spirit of unity that defines us as South Africans. Let us continue to help one another, to welcome each other with open hearts, to connect through the joy of sports, and to keep learning and growing as one vibrant community

ROUND TABLE50 SUPPORTS LITTLE XAVIER

Round Table Carletonville50 Leads the Charge to Support Little Xaviër

In a heartwarming display of community spirit and solidarity, Round Table Carletonville50, part of the STNOFS area, has once again stepped up to make a significant impact in our community. This time, the effort was focused on a cause that touched the hearts of many: helping Little Xaviër, a newborn in critical condition at Mediclinic Potchefstroom.

Born prematurely on August 19th, 2024, at just 34 weeks, Xaviër came into this world fighting for his life

The medical bills for his intensive care unit (ICU) stay quickly began to mount With no medical aid to cover these expenses, Xaviër’s family faced an overwhelming financial burden.

Recognizing the urgent need, Round Table Carletonville50 rallied their members and the broader Round Table Southern Africa community to take action Through an incredible show of support, they raised over R30,000, which was used to pay off medical bills and sponsor essential baby products for Xaviër and his family Tables from across the country, including as far as Kokstad and Bloemfontein just to name a few, contributed to this cause, showing the true power of unity and compassion.

A special shout-out goes to the STNOFS area, of which Round Table Carletonville50 is proud to be a part The men in this area are doing extraordinary work, leaving our towns and communities in a better place through their relentless efforts and dedication

We are thrilled to report that Xaviër is now home, full of life and energy, a testament to the collective efforts of everyone involved. This success story is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.

If you are inspired by this story and want to be part of an organization that makes a real difference, we invite you to get involved with Round Table Southern Africa Whether you are interested in becoming a member or making a donation, your contribution can help us continue to support those in need.

For more information, please contact the STNOFS area Chairman, Riaan Greyling, at 078 098 1328. Together, we can keep making a positive impact, one life at a time

Welkom40 DouglasWinterkamp

Over the last two years, one of the highlights in Welkom 40’s calendar has been the Northern Cape Winter Conference In 2023, the idea of a Boys Trip was instituted Four Tablers from Welkom 40 attended this in Hartzwater and had a ball of a time

This year, the Welkom 40 boys pulled together and filled a bakkie again Rudolf Helm, Jurgen Schoeman, Cornel Labuschagne, Gerhard Botha and Riaan Vernooy all climbed into a bakkie on Friday afternoon. This is after we waited HOURS for Gerhard Botha to make all his turns and find his mobile pharmacy

This year, the Winter Con was presented by Douglas 224, and we met the guys at the legendary Douglas Hotel We were welcomed by true Northern Cape Hospitality and were treated to a steak braai at the hotel.

Later that night, we decided to grab the left-over steak and head for the Vaal where the true venue of the conference was We were greeted with a spectacular venue, right on the river The Tablers were so excited that they decided to braai again Saturday morning kicked off with the customary Jagermeister wake-up, led by NC Area Chairman, Louis Twigge. Mr Twigge ran a great conference that finished early afternoon. This left us with an afternoon of fun and the URC final and Springboks vs Wales games to watch

Welkom 40 would like to thank Douglas 224 and the Northern Cape Area for an amazing weekend New friendships were built, and old ones consolidated We were hosted with true Northern Cape hospitality and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Northern Cape boys are always welcome in Welkom. (See what I did there?)

Matlosane45 LovingShelterQuizNight

You know, there’s something undeniably charming about a quiz night. It’s that perfect mix of friendly competition, quirky questions, and the inevitable debate over whether Pluto should still be considered a planet (spoiler: it totally should) But when you throw in a cause as heartwarming as helping our furry friends at animal shelters, well, you’ve got the recipe for a night to remember.

That’s exactly what happened when Matlosane 45 Loving Shelter recently hosted their annual quiz night Let me tell you, it was more than just a few rounds of trivia – it was a roaring success that managed to pull in a whopping R40,000! Yeah, you heard that right –R40,000 to support our local animal shelters If that doesn’t make you want to hug your nearest dog, cat, or guinea pig, then I don’t know what will.

The night kicked off at a cozy local venue, which quickly filled up with a delightful mix of brainiacs, trivia enthusiasts, and those who were clearly just there for the snacks But what united everyone was the shared passion for making a difference in the lives of animals in need And trust me, the energy in the room was electric – or maybe that was just the Jager kicking in.

As the quizmaster took the stage, the room settled into a buzz of excitement. Teams with names like “The Oll timers” and “Eagles nest” geared up for what promised to be a night of brain-busting questions and, of course, a lot of laughs The rounds covered everything from general knowledge to pop culture, with a few curveballs thrown in just to keep things interesting.

But beyond the laughter and the occasional cries of “We were robbed!” after a particularly tricky question, there was a deeper sense of purpose that underscored the evening Everyone knew that every rand raised would go directly to helping animals who desperately need care, love, and a safe place to call home And that’s what made this night so special

By the time the final round wrapped up, and the scores were tallied, it was clear that the real winners of the night weren’t just the team who knew that Mount Kilimanjaro was in Tanzania The true victors were the animals that would benefit from the funds raised R40,000 is no small change, and it’s going to go a long way in ensuring that these shelters can continue their vital work – whether it’s feeding, housing, or providing medical care to the animals who need it most.

As the event drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment in the air Not only had the quiz night brought the community together in a fantastic display of teamwork and good humour, but it also shone a spotlight on the importance of supporting our local animal shelters.

Looking around the room, it was hard not to feel a swell of pride for what had been achieved. The success of this quiz night is a statement of what can happen when people come together for a good cause It proves that even in a world where there’s plenty to worry about, there’s still an overwhelming amount of kindness, generosity, and love – especially when it comes to our four-legged friends.

Matlosane45: LovingShelterQuizNight

So, here’s to Matlosane 45 Loving Shelter and to everyone who showed up, competed, and gave generously

Whether you left with the top prize or just the satisfaction of knowing you helped make a difference, you’re all champions in my book. Let’s keep that spirit alive and continue to support the incredible work these shelters do

After all, every little bit helps – and who knows? Maybe next year, you’ll be the one walking away with the bragging rights of quiz night champ!

Until then, let’s keep those tails wagging and those paws prancing.

Cheers to making the world a little bit better, one quiz night at a time!

Matlosane45 FlavourFest

You know those days when everything just clicks into place? The sun’s shining, the air’s filled with the mouth-watering aroma of sizzling meat, and the company’s just as delightful as the food Well, that’s exactly how it felt on July 20th at the Flavour Fest Food and Drink Festival, where Matlosane 45 set up our very own food stall Let me tell you, we weren’t just there to flip a few burgers – we brought our Agame with pulled pork served three ways. And trust me, it was a culinary experience that had everyone coming back for seconds (and thirds, if I’m being honest)

We decided to showcase our pulled pork in three iconic South African styles: on Roosterkoek, Vetkoek, and a classic bun Now, if you’re wondering what Roosterkoek and Vetkoek are, let me paint you a picture. Roosterkoek is that perfectly grilled bread that has just the right amount of crunch on the outside and softness on the inside, while Vetkoek is a deepfried piece of heaven that’s crispy on the outside and fluffy within And of course, the bun – because who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned pulled pork sandwich?

As soon as the festival kicked off, our stall became the place to be. The sizzle of the pulled pork, the smell of freshly grilled Roosterkoek, and the sight of our well-oiled machine of a team working together – it was a thing of beauty Each member of Matlosane 45 had a role to play, and boy, did we play it well From the grill masters to the cash handlers, everyone was in sync, and the camaraderie was palpable

What made this day even more special was knowing that every rand we raised was going straight back into our community There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing people enjoy what you’ve made while also knowing that it’s all for a good cause It’s like the ultimate win-win situation

As the day went on, the lines at our stall never seemed to get shorter. Word had spread that Matlosane 45 was serving up the best pulled pork in town, and folks just couldn’t resist We had families, foodies, and even a few curious passersby who just had to see what all the fuss was about And let’s just say, no one left disappointed

But beyond the delicious food and the busy crowds, what really stood out to me was the spirit of togetherness among our team. It’s not every day that you get to see everyone working so seamlessly, almost like a well-oiled machine We were flipping Roosterkoek, stuffing Vetkoek, and stacking buns with such precision that it almost felt like we were putting on a show And in a way, we were – a show of teamwork, dedication, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

By the time the festival wrapped up, we were all exhausted but in the best possible way. There’s a unique kind of tiredness that comes from a job well done, and we were definitely feeling it But it was also mixed with pride – pride in our team, in the food we served, and in the impact we were able to make in our community

Matlosane45 FlavourFest

So, here’s to the Flavour Fest Food and Drink Festival – a day that was about more than just food.

It was about coming together as Matlosane 45, rolling up our sleeves, and showing everyone what we’re made of

We weren’t just serving pulled pork; we were serving up a slice of what makes our community so special –heart, teamwork, and a whole lot of love.

Looking back, I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved that day. We raised funds for our community, brought people together over some seriously tasty food, and proved once again that when Matlosane 45 gets together, we can accomplish anything I don’t know about you, but I’m already looking forward to our next event Who knows what we’ll cook up next time? Whatever it is, you can bet it’ll be delicious – and it’ll be for a good cause. Cheers to that!

Matlosane45 #AllAboutHer

Meet my better half, my best friend, my partner in crime, but best of all, my wife Lene Kotze She keeps me in line; she provides me with both emotional and physical support throughout my Round Table journey and in our personal life Although I can write a book about the story of our life together, let me give you a glimpse of only one special night. During the month of August, our Area Vice Chairman of STNOFS came up with the idea of #Allabouther, with this drive, we get the chance to spoil our better halve, daughter or mother by making a special night all about them to thank them and show appreciation for all they do for us

In the middle of our lovely night out at a place called Loopstraat in Potchefstroom, I had a few questions to ask her which completely caught her off-guard, and they went as follows:

What’s your favourite memory of us together, and why is it so special to you?

It’s hard for me to pick one memory, but if I had to choose, it would be our wedding day That day was the highlight of our journey and felt like the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.

What’s one thing you admire most about me?

I admire your heart, unwavering love and compassion towards everyone around you, and your generosity in giving back

What’s your idea of a perfect date night, and how can I make it happen?

My idea of a perfect date night is a surprise. Whether we’re going out or staying in, just knowing that you’ll plan something special makes me feel loved and cherished

Just hearing these answers made me fall in love all over again, it made me appreciate the small things in life that are often forgotten To know that even when spending time away from home trying to make impactful change in communities, doing a project here, travelling there, I have the full support of my wife and that means the world to me Sometimes we get too busy with daily challenges and forget that even the smallest gestures can make a huge impact in our partner’s life #Allabouther helped me realise that no matter how small or how big a surprise can be always do your best to make plans and spend time with your loved one, spoil her, pamper her, and treat her well.

Matlosane45 FORE!

It was a cold morning on the 25th of July when Round Table Matlosane 45 alongside OFM hosted the OFM Chip for Charity Golf Day

However, we had our work cut out for us to make this day successful Lot of planning, strategies planned throughout meetings, and assisting OFM with all the necessary information at all times needed, we accomplished and surpassed our goal for the day.

The RT45 Gazebo was flowing with jagermeesters, the interaction between the members of 45 and the public was constant and they enjoyed every moment

After a long day of fellowship it was time for the award ceremony

We had tons of prizes handed out to lots of players who enjoyed the day with us. The OFM team did a fantastic job with the auctioning items where one piece of memorabilia sold for R50 000 A total of R314 480 00 was raised to be donated to our two beneficiaries, Dominique Prinsloo & Voetlig Gemeente

We would like to express our gratitude to Orkney Golf Course, The OFM Team, Round Table members who participated and to each and every golfer in our area who made it possible to help us help our two beneficiaries

Matlosane45 NewLeadership,Same UnstoppableSpirit

If there’s one thing you can count on in life, it’s that things don’t always go according to plan Whether it’s your favorite team missing a crucial penalty or your morning coffee spilling just as you’re about to take that first glorious sip, life has a way of throwing us curveballs. Unfortunately, one of those curveballs recently came our way at Matlosane 45, but as we’ve proven time and time again, we’re more than capable of hitting it out of the park.

Our Chairman, who has been at the helm and steering us with unwavering dedication, recently had to step back due to life’s unpredictable twists It’s never easy to see a leader step down, especially one who has given so much of himself to the cause. But, as they say, the show must go on, and in true Matlosane 45 fashion, we didn’t miss a beat.

Enter Henro Louw, the man who’s stepped up to take on the Chairmanship with all the enthusiasm of a Springbok charging onto the field If you don’t know Henro, let me tell you – this guy’s got the heart, the drive, and the vision to lead us into the future He’s the kind of leader who doesn’t just talk the talk but walks the walk, and we’re all excited to see where he’s going to take us next.

But that’s not all We also welcomed Divan Kotse as our interim Vice Chairman It’s like we’ve just added another player to our own “Bomb Squad” – that unbeatable mix of talent and strategy that makes sure we’re always ready for whatever comes our way Divan is young, energetic, and ready to take on the responsibility with the kind of pride that makes you want to stand up and cheer.

Seeing these two young Tablers step into leadership roles is nothing short of inspiring It’s a testament to the depth and strength of our Table, much like the Springbok squad, where every player, from the starters to the substitutes, is ready to step up when needed. There’s no doubt that Henro and Divan are more than capable of leading us forward, and they’ve got the full support of the entire Table behind them.

What’s truly remarkable is that even in the face of these changes, the spirit of Matlosane 45 remains as strong as ever We’re not just a group of individuals –we’re a team, and like any great team, we adapt, we overcome, and we continue to move forward with our heads held high. The fact that we have such capable leaders ready to step up at a moment’s notice speaks volumes about the depth of talent and commitment within our ranks.

So, while life may have thrown us a curveball, we’ve hit it out of the park with style We’ve got new leadership in place, the Table is as strong as ever, and the future looks brighter than ever before Henro and Divan, we’re behind you all the way, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.

Here’s to Matlosane 45 – to new beginnings, to strong leadership, and to the unbreakable spirit that makes us who we are We might not know what challenges lie ahead, but one thing’s for sure: with Henro and Divan at the helm, we’re ready for anything Let’s keep pushing forward, keep supporting each other, and keep making a difference in our community. After all, that’s what being a part of Matlosane 45 is all about –pride, responsibility, and a whole lot of heart.

We held a charity project called Bat for Charity on the 13th of April 2024, where we planned an Action cricket tournament at Vanderbijlpark indoor arena to invite the community and businesses to have a fun day out and at the same time have an awesome teambuilding experience

We had our own boerie stand where we sold boerie rolls, and we got a lot of support from the community and from teams that came out to support us, we spent R950 on the day and made a total profit of R4500 Although it was not the biggest project, it was worth every effort

We, as Vereeniging 20, also signed in a team to play Cricket on the day What was supposed to be only one game ended up being three games played. We managed to win 1 of the three games and a lot of sore bodies for the next whole week.

Overall, I am super proud of all the efforts to make the day successful for all the brothers; this is the beginning of big things to come from V20

Westville189 AnnualPotjieComp

The annual Potjie Competition, hosted by Westville189 in partnership with the Westville Bowls Club, proved to be a resounding success, bringing the community together in a celebration of food, music, and philanthropy

This year’s event was a standout occasion, showcasing the best of local culinary talent and community spirit Ten vibrant and diverse potjie pots were prepared by enthusiastic participants, each one a testament to creativity and culinary skill. Our esteemed panel of judges had the challenging task of selecting the best among these mouthwatering offerings, ensuring a high standard of excellence

The competition wasn’t just about savoring delicious dishes it was also about making a difference Through the collective efforts of the community and the generous support of our sponsors, including Thekweni Motor Group, Bluff Meat Supply, and Shisa Ukhuni, we raised an impressive R4670 for StreetWise Kids. This vital funding will support StreetWise Kids’ mission to enhance the lives of children in need, making a tangible difference in our community

Adding to the event’s charm was the enchanting live music performance by Belle and the Bee. Their melodies created a warm and lively atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience for all attendees. The fusion of good food, great music, and a shared commitment to a worthy cause created a memorable event for everyone involved

The success of the Annual Potjie Competition underscores the power of community collaboration and the impact of collective effort. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who participated, sponsored, and supported the event. Your contributions have not only helped raise significant funds for StreetWise Kids but also strengthened the bonds within our community

As we reflect on this year’s event, we celebrate the success and look forward to future opportunities to come together for a good cause. Thank you for making the Annual Potjie Competition a resounding triumph. Here’s to many more successful events in the future!

StephanTheunissen: Attends2ndASSCO

Welkom 40 had the privilege of having our own Stephan Theunissen attend the RTSA Second Association Council

Stephan is a long-term Tabler in Welkom and is also serving on the Free State Area as the Secretary Stephan will also stand for the position of Round Table Free State Area Vice Chairman at the Tri Area Conference to be held in Hartswater.

I had the privilege of speaking to Stephan on his return, and these were his words:

“ASSCO is an amazing experience, and it is amazing to be in a room with that many people who bleed for Table in the way that the ASSCO does The level of information that the ASSCO needs to deal with is quite daunting and very exciting

It was an eye-opener to see what other areas and other Tablers are doing and to learn from them.

I had a lot of fun on the weekend and particularly found the trip with IPP, Louis Radley, and Finance Convener, Lihann Kriek, extremely interesting

We as Welkom 40 would like to congratulate Stephan and wish him the best of luck for his campaign for Free State Area Vice Chairman We know what you can do, and we are behind you all the way

The Welkom 40 Tablers puts a high regard on raids This is something that we believe strengthens the bonds between Tablers and where one can learn from other Tablers.

On 25 July, Stephan Theunissen and Shaun Stevens went to visit Bethlehem 60 After the obligatory “flat tire” in Senekal, they made it to Bethlehem They were welcomed with open arms (as the case is in Bethlehem) and got to spend some time with the young Bethlehem Tablers There were flags exchanged and Buffalo Members inducted!

Welkom welcomed a couple of happy and tired Tablers back the next morning!

Welkom40Melodrama CastingParty

Welkom 40 has decided to host a Melodrama again this year This is a massive event that happens every two years

The work was done behind the scenes, and it was time to plan the show In Welkom 40 tradition, we hosted a casting party This is an event where the producers of the show will propose the theme and the songs and the Tablers and their wives can audition for the show.

Around 40 Tablers, ladies and friends showed up to Rover’s Club on 24 July with mixed feelings and a lot of excitement We were treated to a proper venue and a great sound and lights

The night was an unmitigated success Everyone danced until their knees were sore and their ears were ringing.

A big thank you goes out to Robby, Bianca, Chane and Stephan who put the whole show together. Welkom 40 is looking forward to a massive project and now the hard work will start

We would like to welcome all the Tablers in the Free State to our Melodrama on the 29th and 30th of November at Salt & Pepper in Welkom to see our show!

Vereeniging20 BietjieBowlsDay

On the 17 of August, Round Table Vereeniging hosted a Bietjie Bowls day at Riverside Bowls Club in Vereeniging, the day started early at 8:30 and was a tad chillier than expected, yet the day turned out lekker warm. We didn’t expect too many players as this was a new project for V20 but had a much better turnout later in the day.

We were lucky to have some of the members assist the players who never had played before, and was honoured that one of the Riverside Bowls Club members was a Vereeniging 20 member in the 80’s and was the same Tabler who introduced my father to Table, so thank you, Mr Gary Marriot.

The day broke for half time so we could watch the ruggas at Barnyard with a few Tablers.

Thank you RBC for your support, we will definitely run this project atleast 4 times a year

Yours in Table

Adrian Ihlenfeldt
