The Vital Role of Young Men in Society: Building a Brighter Tomorrow

We as YOUNG MEN are an invaluable asset to society; we contribute in numerous ways that shape our world and foster Impactfulchange. As young men we play a crucial role in various aspects of life, from family and community to education and the workplace.

We as young men are often at the forefront of innovation and progress. Our youthful energy, fresh perspectives, and eagerness to explore new horizons are instrumental in driving societal development. It does not matter what career we are pursuing or in what field of work we operate, our contribution is essential for pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and achievement.

Building Strong Families

The role of young men in shaping family dynamics cannot be underestimated. As, fathers and future fathers, we have a great opportunity to influence our children through their upbringing. Our involvement in raising our kids, emotional support, and guidance is of great importance for raising wellrounded and responsible citizens. Positive fatherly role models can help break cycles of dysfunction and create healthier families for generations to come.

Community Engagement

Young men are often at the forefront of community engagement and service. We participate in various charitable and social initiatives, working to make our communities safer, cleaner, and to assist where help is mostly needed. Our enthusiasm and passion as young men

and members of Round Table inspire others to get involved and contribute to the upliftment of the communities, they operate in.

Role Models for Peers

We as young men who demonstrate resilience, determination, and integrity serve as role models for our peers, in our general lives, work environment as well as Tablers trough mentoring young and upcoming Tablers. By setting high standards for ourselves and our behaviour, we encourage others to strive for excellence. Positive peer pressure among young men can foster a culture of accountability and personal growth.

Economic Contributions

Young men are a significant part of the workforce, driving economic growth and innovation. Our ideas, skills, and entrepreneurship fuel industries and create job opportunities. Moreover, our dedication to personal and professional growth contributes to a strong and vibrant economy.

Mental Health Advocates

We as Young men through our platform are increasingly vocal about mental health issues, helping to reduce the stigma surrounding these topics. Our openness and willingness to discuss our own struggles encourage others to seek help when needed. We play a crucial role in fostering a culture of empathy and support for mental wellbeing.

As Tablers we have also established a Brotherhood of support, not only amongst ourselves but also to communities around us.

Conclusion

We as young men are an essential part of society, with our contributions spanning across various areas in society. Our energy, creativity, and determination are driving forces behind progress and Impactfulchange. As future leaders, fathers, educators, and role models, we hold the potential to shape a brighter, more inclusive, and prosperous future for all. Recognizing and nurturing the positive influence of young men is crucial for building the future of tomorrow, to influence people to be better more responsible citizens of our country, to look after each other and to lend a helping hand where it is needed.

With all that said, Round Table gives us an amazing platform as young men to grow within ourselves as men, fathers, heads of our families, within our professional capacity, and in our communities. It also gives us the opportunity to make a difference in our communities and in the lives of other around us. It gives us the opportunity to inspire others, to create impactfulchange and simply just to be better men within our society.

breaking the ice

Overcoming Depression and RedeFining Myself

On that chilling 24th of March, I stood alone atop Bowkers Kop in Queenstown, my heart racing, my grip tight around the cold metal of a 9mm pistol. The abyss of despair beckoned, but in that crucial moment, a flicker of realization pierced through the darkness – there was more to my life, and it was my daughter who held the key to my survival.

I'm Dylan Love, the former chairman of Queenstown 16, and my story might not be the most extraordinary, but the fact that I'm here today, sharing it, fills me with an undeniable sense of victory. Life's relentless challenges had led me down the treacherous path of depression, a path that countless men in our society tread silently, weighed down by shame and a misplaced sense of weakness. I became a master of bottling up emotions, burying them deeper as the darkness grew.

But it wasn't until the unwavering support of my fellow tablers and the unwavering love of my daughter broke through the barriers I'd built. They became my lifelines, guiding me towards the path of healing. It was this journey that eventually led me to Underberg,

to a place of recovery called River View Manor. I realized that to conquer depression, I needed to confront and comprehend every facet of this insidious adversary.

One of the gravest misconceptions we men often hold is that vulnerability is a mark of weakness. My own experience shattered that fallacy. Sharing my emotions and story didn't lead to disdain; it led to respect and empathy from unexpected quarters. It was a humbling revelation that dismantled the walls of isolation I'd constructed around myself.

In a world where societal norms have conditioned men to suppress their feelings, my journey underscores the transformative power of communication. Breaking free from the chains of stigma requires a collective effort, and I've come to understand the importance of authentic conversation. My story is a testament to the strength that lies in opening up, forging connections that defy society's expectations.

My odyssey is far from over, but the unbreakable bond with my daughter

and the wisdom I've garnered along the way fuel my determination. The inception of the ICE Bath Challenge emerged as my clarion call – a way to amplify awareness and embolden men to confront discomfort and vulnerability head-on. Beyond the physical benefits, the icy plunge serves as a crucible for mental resilience, a potent weapon in the battle against depression. With unwavering resolve, I extend this challenge to men everywhere, especially during the month of June – a challenge to dive into the frigid waters, both literally and metaphorically, and to reach out for help.

My story is a testament to the strength that lies within vulnerability, the power of connection, and the relentless pursuit of hope. As I stand atop Bowkers Kop once more, no longer staring down the barrel of despair, my hand reaches out to those treading a similar path. From the depths of my struggle, I found purpose, and through shared experiences, I strive to illuminate the way for others on their journey from darkness to dawn.

““Breaking free from the chains of stigma requires a collective effort”

In 2018 I found myself facing a series of life events, loss of a relationship and home I was sleeping rough in my car homeless but working. I woke up one morning to bailiffs clamping my vehicle forcing myself onto the streets, approx 3 weeks later I lost my job, facing an ever growing uphill struggle I found myself homeless facing no access to my children and thinking there was no way out. Thinking that the whole world was against me, a failure to society, to my children and with no purpose I found myself on the wrong side of a railway bridge waiting for a train to ultimately die to suicide.

However, a random tabler passing by stopped, and took time to talk to me. Reminding me of life's ups and downs and that anything is able to be overcome with help. I was invited for food and drink and supported back onto my feet, I managed to get sheltered accommodation, and professional support through CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) they gave me help and advice and slowly I got back on my feet. Got another job, eventually looking towards the light I found that table was exactly what I needed. I got more involved eventually becoming a member of RT Barry 516.

Soon devoting my evenings to table, and the Covid pandemic I was getting great pride out of helping others. Delivering medical goods and foods to them free of charge.

I soon found myself in an apartment just about surviving. Hardly any furniture, a mattress on the floor for myself, a blow up materess for my daughter and only a settee and TV in the living room. Approaching Christmas, My Round Table was in full swing with our nightly santa Sleigh collections great joy on my face watching everyone enjoy our festive cheer.

Round Table had established that my Christmas joy was short lived. For two months I barely got by. Moving into my apartment made me chose between Christmas items for others including my daughter or furniture for my place. Barry RT then went out of their way and delivered me a table and chairs to eat meals on, a bed and duvet for my daughter to sleep on, blings and curtains

for each window of my house, and most touching, the overwhelming abundance of Christmas presents for my daughter.

This was so touching for myself. I had always given everything I had to others but never asked for help.

Further help and councilling with CALM and I was proud of who I was. Who I was becoming, and who I wanted to be in the future. Nothing was gonna stop me enjoying life!!

I attended several functions nationally and instantly fell in love with national tabling.

Attended my first overseas visit to the Netherlands the comeraderie and instant friendships getting greater. Back home attending my second national event I met a ladies circle member. She took my eye and after the weekend I instantly knew she was the one.

Another year of very active tabling both myself and Harriet were very active with national and international activities

and I find myself living with Harriet, changed career, moved table joining RT Lichfield 250 and thoroughly thriving in everything I do.

We made it to Cape Town. The stage set, I knew exactly what was coming, an amazing week with friends, and an extra special climb up table mountain.

Harriet unaware, I proposed to the woman I love on (round) Table mountain. She said yes. My return to life was a huge struggle. Taking over 5 years. But here I am. Loving life. Living round table, still breathing and proud of who i was and who I have become. Roundtable has become my life. Devoted to helping others around me.

Don't camo yourself. Be proud of who you are. Help is always available and table has always got your back. Charity starts at home. Look after those around you.

"Don't Camo Yourself"

"it's a conversation starter"

In a world where expectations and norms often dictate how men should behave, addressing male mental health issues remains a pressing concern. The journey to shed light on the struggles faced by "ordinary" men has taken an inspiring turn with the emergence of the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign by Round Table Southern Africa. This initiative seeks to create a space for men to express themselves, support one another, and break free from societal pressures that often lead to silence and isolation.

Recognizing the Overlooked Challenges

Male mental health has long been overlooked due to societal norms that discourage emotional expression. Men are often expected to exhibit strength, resilience, and emotional stoicism, which can lead to suppressed feelings and a lack of meaningful conversations about their mental well-being. The "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign acknowledges the unique challenges faced by men, offering them an avenue to share their struggles openly.

A CamoufLage for a Cause

The campaign takes its name from the phrase "Don't Camo Yourself," a powerful reminder that hiding one's emotions and struggles only perpetuates the cycle of silence. The idea was born out of discussions among "Tablers," a group of individuals who recognized the urgency of addressing male mental health issues. Inspired by an Australian Male Mental Health initiative that used the phrase "it's a conversation starter," the campaign adopted its own version that resonated with the South African context.

In a country known for its close connection to nature, the concept of camouflage took on a new meaning. The campaign chose to use camo patterns, traditionally used to blend in with surroundings, but with a twist - the camo was in lumo colors, designed to stand out. The lumo camo jacket, emblazoned with the slogan "Don't Camo Yourself," became a symbol of the movement, promoting open conversations and solidarity among men.

Ripple Effects of Support

What started as a small initiative gained rapid traction, reflecting the pressing need for a platform to discuss male mental health issues. The Lumo Camo Jackets became more than just clothing; they became a visual representation of solidarity and understanding. The campaign's message began to spread, sparking conversations that might otherwise have remained unspoken. Reports indicate that the movement has already had a significant impact. Lives have been saved due to the awareness raised and conversations sparked by wearing the lumo camo clothing. The Lumo Camo Jackets, Shirts, and even a Speedo Edition in Pink have garnered support from Round Table members, families, and contacts. Notable figures within the Round Table Southern African community, including Past RTSA President Werner Swanepoel, have embraced the initiative, showing that support and open conversations can come from influential quarters.

Continuing the Movement for Change

As the campaign evolves, its influence continues to grow. Past and current presidents of Round Table Southern Africa have embraced the cause, donning

Lumo Camo Speedos to encourage open conversations about mental health. The initiative strives to break down barriers, normalize discussions about male mental health, and challenge the notion that vulnerability is a sign of weakness. In the face of ongoing challenges, the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign remains dedicated to evolving and expanding its impact. Under the leadership of Round Table Southern Africa’s President Louis Radly, the initiative continues to grow, engaging partners who share the vision of creating a supportive environment for men's mental health. The ultimate goal is to create a movement that extends beyond the current generation of Round Table members, creating lasting change and breaking the cycle of silence.

In conclusion, the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign is an inspiring example of men coming together to redefine masculinity, break the chains of silence, and support each other in times of need. By embracing lumo camo clothing as a symbol of unity, the campaign shows that men can find strength in vulnerability and create a community where conversations about mental health are valued and encouraged. As we move forward, let us remember that each Lumo Camo Jacket worn represents a life touched, a conversation started, and a step towards a more supportive and compassionate society. #DontCamoYourself

Mental Health Awareness Training

Welwitschia 213 in partnership with Uni-Health had started a fund raiser in October 2022 aimed at raising Awareness of Mental Health. The project was successful and raised N$ 30 000.00 and Welwitschia 213 club had ensured that all costs for the fund raiser was absorbed by the club and the entire N$ 30 000.00 was available for the Awareness campaign.

Wel213 had hit some pothole on the road relating to our Initial idea which was to provide Basic Counselling Skills Training to teachers of primary and secondary schools. This forced us to re-arrange our plans of completing the project in 2022 and we ended up being hopeful for the 2023 table year.

With hours of planning, strategizing and research Wel213 with Uni-Health

Namibia finally settled on a date and worked with what we had to ensure that this initiative gets of the ground.

Thanks to Avani Hotel and Casino who sponsored the venue the Basic Counselling Skills Training was set for the 10th of May 2023. Uni-Health Namibia who are the health professionals had drafted a training course specifically to cater for this event. Our idea was to enable teachers through this training to be able to understand Mental Health issues and how to identify them. This was by no means a certification training as no one who stepped out of the training was now a qualified counsellor which was made clear at the start of the training. It was rather a way of allowing for the foundation to be built in our education systems to allow for children to be open

and frank about whatever it is they are facing.

We hosted 35 people for the training 20 of which where teachers from 8 different schools and 15 delegates from 4 different companies who also benefited from this training.

The training consisted of topics like: what is counselling , what are effective counselling skills and how to implement them centred around mental health, how to spot signs of mental health issues and what to do when spotted. An in-depth look at the role of a social worker and the Children’s Act as well as the Alcohol Policy in Namibia through the guest speaker from the Southern Africa Alcohol Policy Alliance( SAAPA).

INKUNDLA | Sept 2023 | 24

Mental Health Awareness Training

Teachers and companies’ delegates alike stressed the fact that more time and efforts should be spent on the mental health topic as the culture in Namibia, is that it’s a taboo subject especially amongst men in the country. It was an eye opener for us as Wel213 relating to the demand for this type of assistance. Welwitschia 213 who also attended the training through the likes of Chairman Amize Adams and Romeo Arendse where able to first hand experience the depth of the lacuna we have in our society surrounding mental health its effects and how one can deal with it. The positive feedback was immense and we are still answering mails and questions regarding the training held more than 2 months ago.

We are thankful to our partners UniHealth and would like to thank Sabrina Basson and Leescha Hansen from UniHealth for their tireless efforts getting this project from the ground. A huge thank you is also in order for Avani Hotel and Casino for the venue sponsored, Exposure Photography who sponsored the media coverage of the event. Last but by no means the least we would like to thank the companies who participated in the Marathon last year which enabled us to host this training.

Welwitschia 213 spent more than 80 hours of tablers time on this part of the project not considering the hours spent by hour partners Uni-health, N$30 000.00 from the project’s funds raised

and ended up with a project which has an immeasurable monetary and phycological value.

Investing in our community by laying a foundation for Mental Health Awareness at the grass roots level of education ,by so doing hopefully assisting in the shaping the leaders of tomorrow for brighter future where Mental Health is not a taboo subject and hopefully in doing so limit the effects of Mental Health on our societies.

From the RTSA President

Fellow Tablers,

The RTI World Meeting in Cape Town was a major success!! It was an honour and a privilege to have represented RTSA alongside our IRO, Louis du Toit. This success is due to the hard work, preparation, time, blood, sweat and tears of the Convening Team – you guys have made RTSA proud and given RTI the best World Meeting ever!!!! My phone is still constantly buzzing with hundreds of thank you messages and I have lost count of all the accolades given to RTSA for arranging the event.

There is so many special memories that I want to share, but I would have to write a book to record all. There are however

some special memories that I need to share. Tablers of RT Iceland approached me to arrange 2 tickets to the Gala dinner for a RTSA Tabler and his wife, due to their hospitality and service. The Iceland tablers offered to pay for the couple and when they were told no seats were available, they offered their own seats to have the couple attend the Gala – luckily the convening was able to plan to accommodate all parties. Daniel White (please read his article in this month’s edition) and his fiancé got engaged on (Round) Table Mountain as he calls it. The last memory was various RTSA tablers that gave it their all, no matter how tired they were, how long they were away from their homes and families, to ensure that the even and pre

tours was a success. To all RTSA tablers and their partners that was part of the crew – you have made RTSA proud, and I salute you all!!!!

RTSA was also part of the final nominations for Association of the Year, Side by Side and Magazine of the year and Jacques van Wyk for Tabler of the Year.

I look forward to visiting the Border, BMG, FS/Stnofs/NC and South Cape area conferences before our next edition.

In a heartwarming display of community collaboration, Vincent Park Shopping Centre has teamed up with Round Table 1 to launch the Winter Knights Blanket Drive. This impactful partnership aimed to spread warmth and compassion to those in need during the cold winter months. As temperatures drop, the joint initiative underscores the power of collective action in making a positive difference and reaffirms the commitment of both organizations to creating a caring and inclusive community.

Edrich’s Winter Area Experience

Good day my fellow tablers, I had the privilege to go to the Area event held on Okarundu campsites outside of Karibib.

We all as a table left Walvis Bay on the 30th of June from Joppie’s house. Quick fun fact for an icebreaker in my Area report. Byron Westerdale has no time management, that means I need to thanks to Jo-mari for chasing Byron to do all his stuff as Area Chairman and showing him how to run his business. We were supposed to be driving out of Walvis at 13:30 Already, well guess what, when I called Byron to ask him if he was on his way already. He’s words was “Ek kom nou”.

As we drove out of Walvis Bay, we popped the first cold ones and that is where the fun for everyone except for Byron started. We had a few lung pleasuring stops and later our chairman with the problem circled on the badge bakkie caught up to us. We had one road block in front of Usakos, where Joppie decided to scream “Haal my uit, hulle steel my ek wil nie hier wees nie!” It was a rough road when we hit that gravel. The reason being is because of the fact that a certain guest decided to bring a lekker caramel mampoer to the scene.

We safely got to the camp and socialized with some other tables in the Namibian area. Shortly after the council meeting started Chris, Brian and Myself started a fire to braai a steak or two. The steak we

then cut up and gave it to all the peoples attending the meeting as a meeting snack. What other table than Walvis 36 would be so generous to feed the whole area, think about it. The evening went on and I braaied a great rib.

So the evening came to an end. The next morning, we all woke up and I heard terrible news that our Area Chairman fell out of his tent while being sober. There was a chance that I couldn’t get inducted. Joppie told me I should go suit up for the meeting for my induction, and so I did what I needed to do, got ready for the meeting. It was a heartwarming feeling when I saw that Walvis Bay 36 was the only table of all the tables in Namibia to wear proper and neat suits.

So later my induction came, I got my golden RT pin after attempting to say the aims and objectives 36 times out of my head. And no, I didn’t manage to get further than the second line. I got inducted as a buffalo member as well. I didn’t know what was more painful, the sergeant with Chris’s chilli sauce or the pin piercing and cutting through my flesh while it is being forced through my ear by Brian Langer. My last drink with my right hand was crap. I had to down a cold one. Now for those of you who didn’t have biology during your school career, if you get hurt, there is some chemical being released by your body called adrenalin, what do you think adrenalin some refreshments does to a

human being… Nou ja toe. Ek het swaar gekry.

After the meeting and induction everyone had a quick small braai before the potjie kos competition started. So the time came to make a potjie. We as table 36 had the best potjie by far, because pancakes with curried mince is not even close to a traditional lekker potjie kos.

The rest of the evening, well I can’t remember much.

The next morning, I woke up with a small hangover and sadly we had to climb on the road back to Walvis Bay. But don’t think that my story is over yet, on our way back we had a kings breakfast at Oasis padstal. All good and well until Phat lightning (Monolito du Toit) wanted to floor a problem. I caught him in the corner of my eye, then I told the guy with the time management problem (Byron) that they’re off the road with their bonnet open. And where was the problem? It is circled on the badge, but in anyway, I want to thank all of you for making this a weekend I will remember for the rest of my life, well the parts of it I can remember.

As a member, I will strive to do good and to do everything I do for Round Table to the best of my ability. Without you guys I wouldn’t have been where I am today.

ROUND TABLE East London 1 Assists Local School

Beacon Bay Retail Park together with East London 1 extended a helping hand to empower education at Voorpos Primary School. The significance of this donation extends beyond the monetary value of the items themselves. It symbolizes the collective spirit of unity and empathy that exists within our community. As winter’s cold embrace tightens its grip, ensuring that those in need have access to nourishing food becomes even more crucial. AGS Charisma Church will use the donated food to provide meals for individuals and families who rely on their support. By supplementing their efforts, Matlosane 45 reinforces the safety net that AGS Charisma Church offers to the most vulnerable members of our community.

Matlosane 45’s dedication to making a difference beyond their immediate circle exemplifies the kind of collective action that fosters a sense of unity and resilience within our community.

As Matlosane 45 continues to embody the spirit of giving, their recent donation to AGS Charisma Church serves as a reminder that even the smallest contributions can make a significant impact. Together, through acts of kindness and selflessness, we can create a more compassionate and supportive community that leaves no one behind.

Jumping Kids Action Cricket Day

Yet again it was a day to remember as we took the field in knowing we will be hurting for a few days after. The day came just as fast as the bowlers were bowling and the batsmen well some of them were running.

We are truly honoured that Round Table 19 and Pretoria 41ners jumped in to make this day one for the books. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the action-packed action cricket day with Round Table Pretoria 136 to raise funds for Jumping Kids! Your enthusiasm and support made a real difference. Special thanks to Ferlio Group of Investigators for standing with us and contributing to this incredible initiative.

To all the teams that participated, your dedication and sportsmanship were truly inspiring. Together, we made a significant impact. You've outdone yourselves by raising an impressive +-R31 000 on the day! This contribution will go a long way in providing a prosthetic limb to another deserving child, changing their life for the better.

Let's continue working together to create positive change and empower children to overcome challenges. Your generosity and kindness knows no bounds. Thank you, and here's to many more successful endeavors in the future!

Jumping Kids Action Cricket Day

INKUNDLA | Sept 2023 | 34

Early morning, the sun had not yet opened its arms to hug the world, I was however listening to the cries of baby birds in the bold darkness. I had so many expectations running through my head of what can happen at winter con 2023. when I received the first “winter con 2023 boys” on our admin group, I put my excitement into 1st gear and didn’t stop to look back

We all hyped each other and so the journey started. It was a race to Antonie’s house and a laugh here and a giggle there, we came together as one, pondering on the weekend that lies in front of us. The road trip to Schoemansdale was a cluster of emotions, my mind was all over the place, as I’m going to spend the weekend with my boys. Not to mention my mind was spinning from the “spin the wheel and drink” game we played. The road was long and lonely, if you were to gaze in to the distance, you’d see nothing but a waste land of bush and rock, but it’s not what you get to see in the bushveld, it’s what you get the hear, smell, taste, and feel. we arrived at the venue, tripping over our lazy thoughts and nearly falling flat on our faces, the laughing was priceless.

Our super hero pace who though he could out party everyone, soon became one with his bed and myself had the opportunity to look at a band of brothers and feel safe and sound. Knowing very well that my footsteps go un-heard. I remember at a point in time, my eyes had cement bags strapped to them, and my voice had been shredded by a cheese grater. It was time for me to say goodnight

Finding my way back to my bed is but a mystery on its own. Waking up was hard but I knew I had to put my performance shoes on and sit in the meeting. My life was great at that time, but when the sergeant announced his gut-wrenching poison, I feared for my life. Raw liver on a marie biscuit really touched my soul. I thought I was in a battle with Muhammed Ali, like writing a math exam, I broke a sweat, but in the end, I won. the meeting went well, and after some business, it was back to fellowship, I made a few new friends and made a few new memories. I want to thank everyone for opening their hearts to me, this is what I call a dream come true. I always say, we ate like kings, drank like pirates and sang like wolves.

The ride back home was long and unforgiving, tired and restless we listened to old music, which comforted the sore heads. It wasn’t until I saw the sun ignited the tips of my friends hair, forming a silhouette from his head (AKA gandoff the ginger) that I could ponder on the memories that I made with everyone… not only did I get to see, I got to feel, taste and hear what a picture perfect winter con looks like.

Kama’s Experience

I had the opportunity to attend the ARTSA 2023, which took place in Bushveld from Wednesday, 25th of April 2023 to Sunday, 30 April 2023.

We embarked on a road trip from Namibia, driving through Botswana to reach South Africa. The journey to ARTSA was organized by our immediate past Namibia Area Chairman, Mr. Byron Westerdale, and our incoming Area Chairman, Eduard Gous. I would like to express my gratitude for their selfless contribution, ensuring that as many tablers as possible could attend the ARTSA. Their efforts made this trip possible and accessible to all.

I was fortunate to be part of a wonderful group of tablers who shared this journey with me. We spent over 50 hours on the road together, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of camaraderie.

I must commend the organizing and convening team for their exceptional work in planning and executing

everything. The overall organization and management of the event were highly impressive. The venues were well chosen, and time management was impeccable.

The highlight of the event was the food table competition, which showcased the culinary talents of the participants. Additionally, the hardcore hut provided a unique experience that will not be easily forgotten.

Attending ARTSA was a truly unique experience that I would highly recommend to all tablers. The trip not only allowed me to connect with fellow members but also provided opportunities for personal growth and cultural exchange. The dedication of the organizing team, the diverse range of activities, and the memorable moments created made this event truly exceptional.

ARTSA provided a platform for networking and building connections

with fellow tablers, not only from Southern Africa but also from around the world. The exchange of ideas and best practices has undoubtedly enriched our understanding of community service and project implementation. The AGM served as a reminder of the power of collaboration and the collective impact that can be achieved when like-minded individuals come together.

In conclusion, my attendance at ARTSA was an unforgettable experience that surpassed my expectations. The trip was not just about attending meetings but also about forging lifelong friendships, fostering a sense of unity, and igniting a renewed passion for service. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this remarkable event, and I encourage every tabler to seize the chance to attend ARTSA in the future.

Winter Knights 2023 Distribution

In a world where kindness and compassion often go unnoticed, it's important to take a step forward and make a difference. Recently, I had the privilege of contributing to a cause that is close to my heart through a donation. This experience has not only touched the lives of those in need but has also left an indelible mark on my own soul.

The decision to make the donation stemmed from a deep-rooted desire to give back to the community and support a cause that resonates with my values. Understanding the impact even a small contribution can have, I embarked on a mission to make a positive and impactful change in the lives of others.

Making the donation to Sophia’s soup kitchen was a simple yet empowering process. Sophia is a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. A woman living in the informal settlements of the capital city of Windhoek, Otjomuise, 8

De Laan, whom so selflessly one day decided that with the little she has, she would start a soup kitchen and start feeding the less fortunate kids in her area. Sophia feeds about 400-500 kids every weekend.

Every act of generosity has the power to create a ripple effect, and with this donation through the Winter Knights project, it was no exception. Through the collective efforts of numerous donors, we were able to provide essential resources and support to those in need.

Witnessing the difference, the donation made has been an immensely fulfilling and humbling experience. It reminded me of the significance of coming together as a community to uplift others. The act of giving not only benefits those in need but also instills a sense of purpose and gratitude within oneself. While this donation has made a difference, it is essential to inspire

others to join in this noble cause. By sharing my experience, I hope to encourage individuals from all walks of life to contribute in any way they can. Together, we can create a powerful wave of positive change and foster a more compassionate world. Making a charity donation is more than just a financial transaction; it is a heartfelt gesture that has the potential to transform lives. This recent contribution to a worthy cause has reaffirmed my belief that small acts of kindness can lead to significant outcomes. I urge everyone to explore the possibilities and embrace the joy of giving, for it is through selfless acts that we truly find our purpose and make the world a better place.

Yours in Table

The excitement leading up to the social evening was palpable. We had meticulously planned the outing, coordinating schedules, and selecting a reputable go-karting facility. In the days leading to the event, discussions were abuzz with thoughts of speed, competitiveness, and the sheer joy of racing against one another. The anticipation intensified as the day approached, fostering a sense of eagerness and anticipation among us.

Upon arriving at the go-karting facility, we were greeted by the scent of rubber on the track and the hum of engines. The sight of sleek, colourful go-karts lined up in perfect formation heightened our anticipation even further. We eagerly registered, donned our racing gear, and received a safety briefing that emphasized the importance of

responsible driving and adhering to the rules.

As we strapped ourselves into the gokarts, a rush of adrenaline coursed through our veins. The moment the engines roared to life, our hearts skipped a beat, eager to embrace the thrill that awaited us. The first lap around the track, with the wind whipping past our helmets, invigorated our senses. The joyous laughter and exclamations of excitement filled the air as we maneuverer through twists and turns, each of us striving to outdo the others.

Go-karting ignited our competitive spirit and a friendly rivalry among us. The desire to win propelled us to push the limits of our driving skills. The sheer determination to outmanoeuvre one another, coupled with bursts of

laughter and playful banter, created an atmosphere of pure delight. Despite the competition, the spirit of sportsmanship prevailed, with encouraging cheers and high-fives exchanged at every turn.

The elation of overtaking, the jubilation of achieving a personal best lap time, and the shared victories celebrated with enthusiastic applause created an unbreakable bond among us. The camaraderie extended beyond the racing track, as we relished in each other's triumphs and encouraged one another to improve, fostering an atmosphere of support and friendship.

We recognized the privilege of having such strong bond between table brothers, the joy of experiencing an exhilarating activity together, and the simple pleasure of creating lasting

Getting to know Gonubie 182 Round Table

Name: Henry

Surname: Kühn

Occupation: Buyer's Assistant

Role within table: Tabler

What is a sabbatical within table:

A sabbatical is where you, as a tabler take a leave of absence from table for 6 months.

How would you encourage more people to join table:

Thats a good question, to become a tabler is hard work and dedication. Once you become a tabler you reap all the rewards. Most important thing of table that you should always remember, you join for two reasons, charity and fellowship. Whilst you do good for your community, you gain friendship, a brotherhood that will always be there for you no matter where you are in the world. There is a saying amongst the different Tables, " A Tabler is an old friend that you are meeting for the first time" no matter where you are, you will always be accepted.

What was the biggest challenge for you within table and how did you overcome it:

Everyone has different challenges in their life, its the way you handle those challenges that set you apart from everyone else. My challenge I had in table was communication, Table assisted me by showing me how, letting me organize and run events that helped me build on my communication skills and with that I gained so many skills that helps me in my life.

Why did you join table for charity or fellowship:

This is a tough one, I joined Table for Charity because I always wanted to do something for the community but never knew how or where to start, however I stayed in table for the fellowship/brotherhood. Seeing the smiles on the faces of everyone you help changes you forever but doing it with your fellow Tabler makes it even better.

67minutes of Kindness

On 18th of July 2023 Wel213 celebrated Mandela Day with our own 67 minutes of kindness shown. We incorporated our families and took the time to make soup from what we had in our collective food cupboards. A Special thanks to Scooby for donating enough butternut to feed 150 people.

Rene and his Family at the helm of the Mandela Day distributions ensured that the pots started cooking and enticed the Ramothibe house hold to do the same.

Wel213 started of in Khomasdal stadium where homeless was afforded the opportunity pitch tents handed out during Covid period and since then made it their home. We distributed 80 sets of soup and bread. Sets being a mince soup, a butternut soup and bread. With more left we drove to Katutura and distributed the remainder of the food also at a allocated homeless centre. Wel213 ended up distributing another 40 sets of soup. With our 67 minutes up, we had a quick coccus on Winter Knights

distributions before we bit farewell to Jason who still had to drive out of town and we all make our way home.

67 minutes of distributions just showing kindness with our families not just tablers is an experience we appreciate every year, but imagine how this world could be if all of us do this every day.

Till the next time we commemorate the live of a Legend.

Beer and running, now that is not something you would think that goes together. Maybe a beer after a run is very refreshing, but having beer while you run is a different type of uncomfortable.

The Beer Mile hosted by Walvis Bay Road Runners on 24 June 2023 is the first of its kind to be held. Each contestant had to run a mile (4 times 400m). Before you start the race, you have to drink a beer and after each lap you have to finish another beer before you can go for the next lap.

The event turned out to be quite an unplanned social event where a lot of our members attended. We were a total of 7 people (tablers and legs) that attended the event and all managed to run in the same batch. Unfortunately, some members had to work and could not attend the event although they entered, but hey, that puts food on the table.

I was quite surprised to see how fast Waldo can run after having a beer each lap.. Or maybe he were not finishing the whole beer.Mr T also came to support us who was busy blowing up with all the beer shaking in our bellies by he did not wanted to join in the fun.

The beer was quite a challenge for our poor legs who struggled to finish a beer after each lap but I am so proud of them that all of us finished the beer mile!

It is a pity that we as Round Table did not think of this event first, this would’ve been a great event to raise some funds for clubhouse funds or any other project.

Other tables can take note to host a beer mile to raise some funds before someone else jumps on the initiative in their towns.

The Swedes have arrived @ 136!

On the 9th of June, we were fortunate to welcome some of our 136 family members from Kullabygden, Sweden: Daniel, Elin, David, and Julia, accompanied by their four children, for a few days in South Africa. We loaded our vehicles and headed to OR Tambo to pick them up.

Upon their arrival, the air was filled with excitement and a sense of African fever! We knew it was our duty to treat them like royalty, so we headed home for the ultimate welcome: a BRAAI! As soon as Chris, Wian, Bronwan, Shaun, and Louis arrived, we fired up the grill with tomahawk steaks, boerewors (traditional South African sausage), buffalo wings, cheese grillers, fries, and more steaks. The celebration had begun. We caught up, shared new stories, and had a wonderful time, indulging ourselves to the point of overeating!

The kids were kept busy playing with Frank the bulldog, as they showered him

with love and affection throughout their stay.

Saturday arrived, and we were all up and ready to partake in our annual Pretoria Collective Potjiekos Day, or as Julia would like to believe, the fest we had organised just for her! The competition commenced, and to their surprise, they were the judges for the day. They were treated in true Pretoria Table's fashion, with drinks, food, and the most amazing fellowship imaginable.

Sunday saw us up early once again for the Bus Stop 7 Market. The kids had an absolute blast, as they enjoyed playing various games, riding go-karts, petting and feeding the animals. The adults took a moment to relax, indulging in local food and drinks while enjoying the shopping and witnessing the local talent on display at the market.

Monday brought about a bit of a rush as we had to buy Faf de Klerk-themed

speedos, or as they call them "faffies", for David's son, who idolises Faf de Klerk. Yes, they watch rugby in Sweden. After the shopping spree and ensuring everyone had their Springbok jerseys, we set off to their game lodge in Dinokeng.

The scene at the lodge was straight out of a movie, and the girls went wild with excitement when they saw their rooms and the stunning venue. Unfortunately, we had to bid farewell there, but not without a few hugs and tears from the young ones. We are already arranging our return visit to Sweden, as they want us to experience a winter vacation with them!

Warm regards,

What a whirlwind of goodness and gratitude it's been this year! Among all the food donations and the bustling food bank efforts, a heart-warming collection of 72 bags of maize meal came together. But here's the twist – these bags weren't just destined for any regular spot. No, they were destined for the incredible souls at New Vision Secondary School's charity club, a group of young champions doing big things for their peers.

Picture this: a club within a school, born from the heart of a learner back in 2020, has blossomed into a remarkable force for good. These young do-gooders work tirelessly to ensure that every child in the school has food to take home and even a lunch to savor while they're at school. The fact that they're just kids themselves makes their efforts all the more inspiring.

So, with hearts full of compassion and

bags brimming with maize meal, we marched over to New Vision Secondary School, expecting nothing more than the satisfaction of giving. But what greeted us was something beyond words. Handwritten banners swayed in the breeze, balloons danced merrily, and the entire club, grinning from ear to ear, eagerly awaited our arrival.

The school's principal, in a heartfelt gesture, delivered a thank-you speech that warmed our souls. As he unraveled the history of the Charity Club, we couldn't help but be touched by the sheer dedication these young minds exude. And then, the "head" of the club stepped forward, their passion shining through as they shared their gratitude with us. It was a moment that captured the essence of giving without expecting anything in return.

Our Chairman, Russel Human, took

the floor too, sharing our own journey of doing good and offering insights for the Charity Club's growth. The spark in their eyes as they listened to our stories mirrored the hope we felt for the future.

And to top it all off, these young champions presented us with snacks lovingly prepared by their own hands. It was a gesture that illustrated the magic of giving – how it forms a circle of kindness that touches everyone involved.

To the students and teachers of New Vision Secondary School's Charity Club, we tip our hats to you. Your passion, drive, and gratitude have shown us the true power of giving. Thank you for reminding us that the spirit of compassion knows no age limits.

New Vision Charity Club.

The Joy of Ten-Pin Bowling

As the evening unfolds, the atmosphere becomes electric with excitement. Laughter and banter fill the air as we eagerly don our bowling shoes and make our way to the lanes. The mere act of preparing for the game creates a sense of camaraderie and anticipation.

Once on the lanes, friendly competition takes centre stage. Each one of us takes our turn, adjusting our approach to perfecting our technique. Strikes, spares, and gutter balls elicit cheers and good-natured ribbing. The game becomes a source of both challenge and amusement, bringing out the competitive spirit in everyone while fostering an atmosphere of shared enjoyment.

We rally around each other, offering encouragement and advice, celebrating achievements, and consoling after disappointments. The experience fosters a sense of unity as everyone becomes invested in each other's success. Regardless of individual skill levels, the focus remains on enjoying the game and creating lasting memories.

Laughter is the soundtrack of the evening. The jovial atmosphere lends itself to amusing moments, such as the occasional misstep or exaggerated victory dance. We find delight in the small victories and can't help but laugh at our own shortcomings. The joyous ambiance creates a sense of liberation,

allowing everyone to let go of their inhibitions and embrace the pure fun of the moment.

Beyond the game itself, the social evening of bowling with table brothers and family members strengthens the bond of family. Conversations flow effortlessly during breaks, creating opportunities for deeper connections and shared experiences. As the evening progresses, laughter and friendly competition dissolve barriers, forging a sense of unity and belonging. The shared memories and inside jokes formed during this social event become cherished treasures that we will carry with us long after the evening has ended.

One of the standout features of the gathering was the delectable food prepared on the grill. The41ers came through with lekker “rooi keel & vet derms” and a few fish which they themselves caught on a trip they had earlier. The hosts, Romano, and his wife Cherizaan Ramothibe, known for their culinary prowess, delighted guests with an array of mouth-watering dishes, which included a baie lekker Steak served with Chimichurri for starters, which was a favourite amongst the guest. A lekker Potjiekos pleased the palates of all attendees who all went for seconds as the aroma of the sizzling grill filled the air, adding to the festive spirit of the Wel213 Social.

The Social held by the Ramothibe’s on May 18, 2023, at 1078 Vela Street, Dorado Park, was a memorable and enjoyable event. Attendees revelled in the festive atmosphere, laughter was abundant, and the delicious food and drinks provided an excellent culinary experience. The gathering successfully brought Welwitchia213 together, fostering a sense of togetherness and camaraderie. It served as a testament to the power of social events in creating lasting connections within Round Table Namibia.

Yes, the title stems from the lyrics of Appel’s song and was repeatedly played during the 2023 Hunting Boogie in July. One could say it is the new hymn of this fellowship project.

At 14:00 on a mild Friday in mid-July the attendees met up at Kappsfarm Padstal to hit the road to the farm where we’d be hunting for the weekend.

It was particularly great to have so many 41ers be in attendance who brought their sons. They will hopefully become Tablers in the future when they are of age and ready to take over the legacy. In addition, we had Romano from Round Table Welwitschia 213 attend too who proved to be a great sport the entire weekend.

A mere +/- 150km outside of Windhoek we quickly arrived at the farm just outside of Witvlei and waited a few minutes for Ernst to join. He made the lengthy journey all the way from the coast.

The farmer, Des, greeted us and the

Ek is Jagter

gunsmith afficionados amongst us unpacked their rifles and did some target practice on the shooting range just before sunset. Once all of them were satisfied with the accuracy and respective scope settings, we made our way back to the farmhouse. Upon our arrival we bore witness to the birth of a new calf which, something that many hadn’t seen before.

We unpacked and had a pleasant evening with chilled beverages and a proper Suidwes braai. Without exception everyone was indulging in the fellowship and it proved to be a good night.

Early on the Saturday morning our tribe was split into two troops as all wouldn’t fit onto a single bakkie. The vehicles drove their separate ways and it wasn’t long until Neville’s oldest son, James, aimed his rifle on a buck in a troop of oryx. Locked in he pulled the trigger and the first of two antelopes for the day was acquired.

Not too long thereafter we were notified that our pipeliner Décee who was on the

other bakkie has successfully hunted a Hartebeest.

Before the sun got too hot during midday, we offloaded the antelopes for slaughtering and enjoyed some boere rolls and fresh liver for lunch. In the afternoon we made another attempt at hunting but remained unsuccessful. Darn it!

A day in the sun can become tiresome so we opted to light up a fire and braai some meat and discuss our adventures we had just embossed in our memories. In good spirits we had music playing and bonded to become even closer. This is what makes Round Table so special. The fellowship forges bonds stronger than steel.

Thank you to all who attended and in particular to 41er Philip who made all the arrangements and in doing so guaranteed the success of yet another great fellowship weekend.

Winter Knights in Damaraland

There is an annual rally event in May spanning over several days known as the Rough and Tough Rally which is open to the public to raise funds for the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN).

This year Daniel Leicher and Werner Wormsbächer took part in this rally on behalf of 34 and you can read all about that in a separate article. Since the rally took place in the remote north-central part of Namibia, the beautiful Damaraland, it was decided to do a pre-distribution of blankets in this area by the aforementioned duo.

On the 18th of May 2023 whilst enroute to that day’s checkpoint the 34-racing team in their 1978 VW Iltis came across a village with many children. The area is so remote that there is no electricity, neither is there running water and it isn’t close to any of the decent gravel roads either.

Daniel and Werner took along 34 blankets on their adventure which were handed to 34 of the village’s residents, predominantly children, to make the upcoming winter more bearable and to create awareness for June’s upcoming Association-wide Winter Knights campaign of Round Table Southern Africa. The value of the blankets was N$ 2,720.

Round Table Walvis Bay 36 also took part in the rally and they too distributed blankets.

As there were over 50 teams that participated in the Rough and Tough Rally with entrants from all over Namibia and operating in various sectors of the economy, the traction and awareness for both Round Table and Winter Knights was ensured.

Windhoek 34 has every intention to partake in this rally next year and also hand out more blankets in these remote areas in 2024.

A brotherhood that knows no limits!

On May 31st, my companions Chris Merts, Antonie Smit, and I embarked on our annual Numbers Tour to Sedan, France, representing Round Table Pretoria 136. This highly anticipated event fills us with excitement each year as we reunite with our fellow brothers.

Upon our arrival at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, we were warmly welcomed by Camille, a dear brother from 136, who accompanied us to Belgium for the evening. We dined at a restaurant overlooking a nearby castle where Camille resides, and to our pleasant surprise, we were joined by the 41ers Tom, Steven, and the young Andy. This encounter beautifully exemplifies how the bond within the brotherhood of 136 transcends age and geographical boundaries.

The following day, we checked into our château, where we would be staying for the weekend alongside our other brothers, overlooking the majestic Château de Sedan. Friday evening commenced with a delightful "spitbraai"

(barbecue) and the exchange of gifts, followed by the highlight of the night: the skits. As always, this was a joyful and laughter-filled moment as we all showcased our unique performances.

Saturday began with a tour of the Champagne region, indulging in the exquisite flavours and ambiance at Poetry. Afterward, we enjoyed a delightful lunch amidst the enchanting vineyards where the champagne originates. The evening was dedicated to a glamorous black-tie event, during which the chairmen held a brief meeting to discuss ongoing projects and ensure the well-being of all members.

Our Sunday morning started with a beloved tradition: The Breakfast! We all gathered to enjoy a meal together and then had the privilege of listening to the wise words of Tom Atkins himself. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of trophies for the best fellowship and the most entertaining skit, as well as bidding farewell to one another. However, true to the spirit of

the 136 brothers, there is always time for one last beer near the magnificent Château de Sedan!

Parting ways once again evoked heartfelt emotions, with a few tears shed by everyone, particularly the French members. This tour holds immense significance for all the members of 136, as we view ourselves not just as brothers, but as a family—united and strong!

We proudly declare that the 136 Numbers Tour is not just the best, but we truly mean it! Our planning for the next tour in April 2024 has already begun, and we eagerly await the opportunity to host it.

Until we reunite with our beloved family once more!

Warm regards,

When one truly wants to make a difference in this world there are but a few things that can try and stand in your way.

Pretoria collective does not know of anything that can stand in our way as when we stand together we can and will make a Impactful Change in this world!

One size fits all

We at Matlosane 45 recently organized a heartwarming clothing drive that truly touched my heart. The outcome was nothing short of amazing – we managed to collect six large bags and two boxes filled with clothing ranging from young children’s attire to garments for the elderly. This effort showcases our unwavering commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate.

Our donation found a worthy recipient in the Oasis of Givers, a Christian-driven organization that tirelessly supports families in need. They were in desperate need of clothing for the families they care for, and our donation couldn’t have come at a better time. Knowing that our contribution will directly impact these families makes this endeavour even more gratifying.

The diversity of the clothing collected during our drive perfectly encapsulates the inclusivity that Matlosane 45 stands for. By addressing the clothing needs of a wide range of individuals, from the youngest to the elderly, we hope to touch lives across all generations.

Collaborating with the Oasis of Givers has been deeply rewarding. Their commitment to making a positive difference aligns seamlessly with our own values and mission. Together, we’re amplifying the impact we can make in our community.

What’s truly heartwarming is how our community rallied behind this cause. The success of the clothing drive goes beyond the tangible items collected; it’s a testament to the power of collective action and the change we can bring

when we work together.

As the Oasis of Givers distributes the clothing to families they support, it’s a direct reflection of the compassion and generosity that resides within each of us. Our community is a shining example of how small acts of kindness can have far-reaching effects.

In moments like these, it’s clear that Matlosane 45 isn’t just an organization – it’s a family driven by a shared commitment to making the world a better place. Through initiatives like this clothing drive, we’re turning that commitment into action, one heartwarming gesture at a time.

Woman’s Day Braai

Let me tell you about the adventures of Matlosane 45 that happened on one unforgettable Tuesday night. Now, picture this: a bunch of grown men, fresh out of a never-ending business meeting at the unreasonable hour of 2 am, suddenly struck by a brilliant idea. A braai! Yes, you read that right, a good ol’ South African Braai!

But here’s the kicker – it was on Women’s Day. You know, that day when all the guys are supposed to be pampering their ladies and showing off their chef skills by whipping up something fancy in the kitchen. Well, not us. We’re rebels, and we wanted meat and fire, we going to spoil the women in a different way!

So, with the craziness that is our brotherhood, we decided to plan this braai for the very next day. Now, you might think that a weekday would

deter most folks, what with work, responsibilities, and the need to pretend we can actually adult. But here’s where the tale takes a twist.

Behold, the very next day, at a respectable 3 pm (yes, we were all still in recovery mode from the business meeting), every single Matlosane 45 member and their families descended upon Ryno’s place like a horde of hungry carnivores. And what were we wearing, you ask? Our proud grey “45 is alive” T-shirts, of course!

You could practically feel the camaraderie in the air, mixed with the scent of sizzling boerewors. It was like a bizarre family reunion, complete with laughter, playful banter, and maybe even a few exaggerated hunting stories.

What struck me most was the strength

of the bonds we’ve formed in Matlosane 45. We’re not just a group of guys who meet occasionally; we’re a tight-knit family that shows up for each other, even after late-night business shenanigans. Ryno’s place transformed into a haven of fellowship, where stories were shared, kids were fed, and the spirit of unity shone brightly.

So, here’s to Matlosane 45 – a bunch of misfits, daredevils, and absolute legends who don’t care about societal norms when there’s a fire to be lit and glasses to be filled . Thanks, Ryno, for letting us take over your home again, and here’s to many more crazy, laughter-filled days that remind us how awesome this brotherhood truly is.

Potchefstroom 47's Bus Duty

The Round Table Potchefstroom 47, a dedicated organization of young men, has been weaving threads of compassion and community support for decades. Among their longstanding initiatives is the Bus Duty—a heartwarming endeavour that exemplifies their commitment to lending a helping hand to the elderly members of their community.

For years, the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 has extended its warmth to the elderly residents of old age homes through the Bus Duty program. Each month, members of the organization take turns to drive these seniors to and from shopping centres, offering not just a ride, but a connection to the world beyond their walls.

The essence of Bus Duty lies in its steadfast continuity. Every month, without fail, members of the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 have been facilitating this essential service for over four decades. It's a beacon of reliability for those who rely on this assistance.

Bus Duty is not just about transportation; it's about embracing the community's elderly residents and addressing their needs. The Round Table Potchefstroom 47 takes immense pride in standing beside those with limitations, offering a helping hand to ensure they are not left behind.

This initiative thrives due to the dedication of current members of the Round Table Potchefstroom 47. During

Bus Duty, these individuals’ step into a role of responsibility, aiding, support, and companionship to the elderly passengers.

While the concept is simple, the execution requires ongoing communication and coordination. The Round Table Potchefstroom 47 ensures that the elderly residents and the organization's members are well-informed, making sure that the wheels of support keep turning.

Beyond the logistics, Bus Duty creates a heartwarming sense of community. By spending time with the elderly residents, assisting them with their shopping, and sharing conversations, the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 fosters connections that go beyond mere transport.

During Bus Duty, the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 members take on various roles, from driving the bus to helping passengers navigate the shopping centre, carry items, and even lending a hand to load and unload their groceries. These acts of kindness reverberate long after the ride is over.

The organization's support doesn't end with the Bus Duty. The Round Table Potchefstroom 47 also helps these seniors source groceries, making sure that their needs are met beyond the shopping trip.

The beneficiaries of Bus Duty are often

left speechless by the Round Table Potchefstroom 47's kindness. The initiative elicits feelings of gratitude and genuine appreciation from the elderly residents who rely on this lifeline.

The Round Table Potchefstroom 47's Bus Duty isn't just an act of assistance: it's a heartwarming expression of the organization's values. Through their unwavering dedication, they create ripples of positivity that enrich the lives of the elderly and strengthen the community bonds.

As the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 continues to embrace Bus Duty, their vision is to drive change even more frequently within a month. This long-term commitment reflects their determination to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of those they serve.

The Round Table Potchefstroom 47's Bus Duty initiative is more than a ride to the shops: it's a journey of compassion, companionship, and community. With each trip, the organization's members breathe life into their mission of support, demonstrating that even the simplest acts of kindness can leave an indelible mark on the lives they touch.

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SIMPLISTIC GENEROSITY

In a world often characterised by its fast pace and individualistic pursuits, it's heartening to witness the transformational impact that collective compassion and goodwill can bring about. The recent R2 Project at Lynnwood Lane is a shining example of how a simple idea can blossom into a powerful force for positive change within a community.

As a proud Pretoria 136 pipeliner, I had the privilege of spearheading the R2 Project at Lynnwood Lane. This project, driven by the spirit of generosity, aimed to bring people together and make a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The concept was elegantly simple: give away R2 coins to the warm-hearted communities of Pretoria and encourage them to purchase nonperishable food items from a predefined

list. These essential provisions would then be channelled towards supporting the children of Laerskool Pierneef, a cherished local primary school.

The response from the community was nothing short of inspiring. Witnessing the joy and enthusiasm with which people embraced the project reinforced our belief in the innate kindness that resides within us all.

The funds raised were used to assemble food packages brimming with love and sustenance, which were then delivered to the Laerskool Pierneef. The gratitude we received from them inspired hope and served as a powerful reminder of the profound impact that collective efforts can have on shaping lives.

This project's success was not measured

solely in terms of the collected food items but rather in the profound unity it fostered and the enduring connections it forged.

As we reflect, let us be inspired by the remarkable potential that lies within us to catalyse change and bring joy to those in need. The R2 Project serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging us all to seize opportunities for kindness, to stand together as a force for good, and to continue weaving the threads of compassion that enrich the tapestry of our community.

In the spirit of unity and empowerment,

Stutterheim Round Table 103 Winter Knights 2023

This year Stutt 103 decided to take a different approach to the annual Winter Knights initiative. Past years have seen us traditionally hold it outside our local PnP on the last Friday of the month. This year we decided to run it on the 15th June as well as the 30th June.

With it being held on two separate nights a substantial amount of clothing and non perishables were obtained. A conservative estimation of roughly R20 000 was donated through clothing, blankets, slippers, children’s toys to name but a few items. There was also roughly R2400 worth of non perishables

donated. A huge thank you to the community of Stutterheim for these generous donations. We as Round Table 103 are blown away by the generosity and support of our community.

Special mention must be made of Tiaan Coetzer (Stutt Express), Jotham Stone (CGI Brokers), Travis Scholes (CJ Scholes & Son) and Justin Lawson (Bose Tyres). These businesses were kind enough to donate R100 per person who took the plunge in the ice bath challenge for men’s mental health awareness. A further R4500 was donated through them which will be used to purchase

food packages for the less fortunate in our community.

A huge thank you once again to Lyle and Debbie Mundell, owners of our local PnP for allowing us to once again utilize their parking lot for donations.

Projects like these are not possible without our wonderful donors, so to each and every one of you THANK YOU!

Inter Table Transitions Change is hard

Change is hard. We hear it often, we say it often, and we end up believing it. Nevertheless, change is something we also desire and strive for. Whether the change involves abandoning a bad habit, developing a new skill, or making a big life change, we have all experienced the desire to make a change in our lives.

In my case was a change of career and having to make the life change to a different town and with the change of town come the change in the table I would fit in with.

I was inducted into Round Table Windhoek 34 at the 2019 October Area in Uis form where Whk34 was my home, my support and my lifelong friends. The club where I felt comfortable and contributed a lot of man-hours towards making an impactfulchange.

November 2022 I got the exiting new offer for employment at the coast which I could not turn down and as a result moved away from Windhoek. It was however with a heavy heart that I had to leave Windhoek 34 as soon as I made the choice on which of the coastal Tables I want to join, Walvis Bay 36 or Swakopmund 145.

I visited both Tables’ meetings and social events for a period of 6 months to make my choice.

Normally a Tabler would join a club that is closest to his home especially with the high fuel prices nowdays, but for me that resides in Swakopmund felt more at home with Walvis Bay 36. Hence my choice of change was made.

I am fortunate enough to have found a table I can make a difference in and drive impactful change!

Walvis Bay 36 really made a lot of effort to include me with all their events and made me feel welcome. It is really a great bunch of guys!

36 Donating Blankets

I received a phone call by a community member of Walvis Bay, who brought to my attention that there was a fire in Kuisebmund where a family lost all their belongings, this was the morning of 10th June 2023. We as Round Table 36 assist them by donating some blankets.

As the winter creeps up on us, colder than we have ever experienced before at the coast. We have received loads of calls whereby people in our community have been asking for blankets and warm clothes.

On this, we as Round Table 36 assist them where we can thanks to all the kind donated items we have received and collect so far. We encourage the community to continue to donate all unwanted or unused warm items to us, with this we can even assist more needed people in this given time.

In times like these you realize how blessed you are to be part of an organization so big to help the ones in need. It leaves my heart warm to see how grateful one can be for as little as a warm blanket in this ice-cold winter.

Winter Knights blanket distribution

Ombili Community Centre

Without a doubt the annual Winter Knights is the biggest project undertaken by Round Table Namibia Area and it is also run and driven by the entire Association of Round Table Southern Africa.

Whilst we promote and perform our collections differently to our brothers in South Africa, we all have a common denominator when it comes to the aim of the campaign: ascertain community upliftment of the less fortunate and bringing them warmth to manage the cold winter. Everyone deserves dignity and how better to drive impactful change than to align our combined forces for a spectacular project to assist those in need?

34’s first beneficiary after a very

successful 2023 Winter Knights drive was the Ombili Community Centre in Katutura, a settlement in Windhoek. The need arose to do two separate handovers combining a total of 230 blankets purchased at PEP, one of our two main sponsors of Winter Knights, and Anusa. We were able to provide warmth to children who would have had to make it through the icy cold nights had it not been for our generous Namibian public to support the Winter Knights initiative. The monetary value of this blanket’s handover is pegged at N$ 19,473.76, however the value to the recipients is immeasurable.

Our very own Vice Chairman Riaan Stadler facilitated this handover. There are many more handovers in the pipeline and 34 as a whole endeavour to reach

those who are in need the most as soon as possible.

Watch this space and follow our pages on both Facebook and Instagram for more updates on handovers in the very near future.

Whilst we lie in our beds at night, comfortably snuggled up under warm comforters and a warm tea in our belly, remember that it is our duty to help those who do not have the ‘luxury’ of being warm. Think of the children and the elderly who deserve dignity and humanity.

a day well spend.

As we arrived at camp 15+ children aged 2 years old to 17 years old immediately started assisting us with offloading all the sponsored goodies for the kids for an entire weekend. I’ve never seen an old Land Cruiser offloaded at such pace. The following morning we had the privilege to cook breakfast for over 20 children, the younger ones included who were asleep when we arrived. As the kids ate the energy levels started to rise extremely fast. Luckily, we were prepared…

As the kids where busy getting the necessary sunblock against the harsh

The kids quickly got themselves into teams and the game was on. Everyone assisted in taking care of the kids too young to play and this gave the house parents some well-deserved rest. The competitiveness kept them busy while the camp’s staff prepared lunch.

Lunch at the lodge could not have c ome sooner, as most of the sponsored goodies was consumed at this stage.

The swimming pool and some touch rugby kept the kids busy until dinner. At this stage most of the kids started to bond with tablers and guests, making the goodnight hugs a bittersweet end to

Pack up and go show. I believe that the house parents are well aware of when the energy levels rise, they were sure to leave the next day soon after breakfast when it was still possible to get the kids in the car. On the drive home a silence was experienced in our vehicle as we all agreed without having to say it out loud. What a way to spend a weekend giving back how and where we can.

WINTERCON EXPERIENCE

The Round Table Eastern Province Winter Conference, held on the 7th and 8th of July, was nothing short of a fantastic time filled with camaraderie, insightful meetings, and, of course, delicious food. The event kicked off with an opening evening that set the tone for a weekend to remember.

Friday evening began with a mouthwatering braai that left everyone craving for more. The sizzle of the grill, the tantalizing aroma of grilled meats, and the laughter of friends coming together created an atmosphere of warmth and excitement. But what truly made the evening special was the consideration for the younger attendees. The event organizers had thoughtfully arranged for a jumping castle, much to the delight of the little ones. My two kids couldn't get enough of it, bouncing with boundless energy and infectious joy. It's safe to say they had a blast!

One of the most heartwarming aspects of this conference was the opportunity to reunite with our national friends. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to lose touch with old acquaintances. However, the Round Table Eastern Winter Conference provided a perfect platform

to reconnect with those friends who share our commitment to community service and fellowship. Seeing familiar faces and sharing stories over a braai made the event even more special.

The National Council's presentation and their visit to our conference were much appreciated. It was an enlightening experience to gain insight into the broader picture of Round Table's initiatives and achievements on a national scale. Their visit underscored the sense of unity and purpose that binds all Round Table members across different regions.

The heart of the conference was undoubtedly our Area Council's feedback. It was evident that our local council had put in a tremendous amount of effort to make this event a success. Their dedication and hard work were commendable, and the meeting itself was both informative and inspiring. The discussions ranged from ongoing community projects to future plans for making a positive impact in our region. It was a reminder of the vital role Round Table plays in our local communities.

We must extend a heartfelt "thank you" to Port Alfred 177 for hosting this

incredible weekend. The picturesque setting of Port Alfred added an extra layer of charm to the conference. The hospitality we received from the Port Alfred 177 members was truly remarkable. Their warm welcome and attention to detail ensured that we all felt at home throughout the weekend.

In conclusion, the Round Table Eastern Winter Conference of 7th and 8th July was a delightful experience that combined friendship, fun, and a sense of purpose. It was a true testament to the spirit of Round Table and the commitment of its members to making a positive difference in their communities.

As we look forward to future conferences and gatherings, it's events like these that remind us of the incredible bonds we share as Round Tablers. The Round Table Eastern Winter Conference was not just an event; it was a celebration of friendship and service that left us with cherished memories and renewed enthusiasm for the mission of Round Table.

Collaboration For Good

Matlosane 45 joined forces with the “Dead Men Riding” Christian motorcycle club to extend a helping hand to an informal settlement nestled between Orkney and Klerksdorp. This settlement, home to around 70 individuals, mainly consisted of white residents residing on a plot. The stark reality of poverty they faced stirred our compassion, compelling us to make a difference in their lives.

As we embarked on this journey of kindness, we pooled our resources to offer a multifaceted support system to these resilient souls. On our end, we contributed blankets and stationary, items that would provide comfort and educational opportunities. But the collaboration didn’t stop there; the "Dead Men Riding" club, fueled by the same spirit of benevolence, came forward with a remarkable donation of not just one, but two bakkie loads of food.

The Impact of this combined effort was undeniable. Together, we sought to address both immediate needs and

long-term aspirations. Our collaboration underscored the notion that unity can break barriers and extend the reach of our goodwill.

Arriving at the informal settlement was a humbling experience. Witnessing the genuine smiles and gratitude of those we were there to support was a reminder that our efforts, no matter how big or small, can have a profound impact on the lives of others.

As blankets and stationary were distributed, a sense of warmth and hope enveloped the settlement. The provision of food through the generosity of the "Dead Men Riding" club not only filled empty stomachs but also touched hearts, proving that compassion truly knows no bounds.

In this joint endeavour, Matlosane 45 and the “Dead Men Riding” club demonstrated the power of collaboration and the strength that arises when individuals with a shared purpose come

together. The impact of our combined efforts went far beyond the physical items we provided – it resonated in the connections we forged, the stories we shared, and the profound sense of unity that prevailed.

This collaboration wasn’t just about giving; it was about reaching out, bridging gaps, and fostering a sense of belonging for those who needed it most. It showcased the incredible potential we all have to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, regardless of backgrounds or circumstances.

As we returned from this humbling experience, we carried with us not just memories of the day, but a renewed commitment to continue seeking out opportunities to uplift those around us. It’s a reminder that when hearts unite, there’s no limit to the positive change we can bring to the world.

This year saw many adventures in building relationships and fellowship with international Round Table members after the two years ban on travelling.

RT Sandown150 started off with attending the Round Table Mauritius Induction dinner on the 19th of March 2022 at the historic Chateau Labourdonnais. The evening was filled with speeches by each outgoing and incoming chairman followed by Juan Botha inducting two members into the Buffalo club.

During the course of the next couple of months RT Sandown 150 hosted and entertain a few international guests. Ronald a RT Mauritius 5 41’er on multiple occasions including RT Sandown 150 Kykvier

Girish Prayag, RT Mauritius Vice President and his partner Laksha Juddoo, Ladies Circle Mauritius 2 Chair Lady joined RT Sandown 150 for a fun weekend of fellowship and Jukskei Tournament hosted by RT Pretoria 19. They enjoyed their time spent with us so much that they are joining RT Sandown 150 for future tabling events.

Jonathan Mchungula a RT Bantyre 20 member came to South Africa for a business trip and found himself one evening at the RT Sandown 150 club house for a few refreshments and fellowships where shirts were exchanged. RT Blantyre 20 is also RT Sandown 150 twinning table. ARTSA 2022 Pre-Tour brought their international guests by bus load to visit the RT Sandown 150 club house for a morning of breakfast buns and entertainment. This kicked off the fellowship that led up to RT Sandown 150 members trying dehydrated fish from Iceland (highly not recommended for a weak stomach) and framing a shirt given to RT Sandown 150 by a RT Iceland member.

In May of 2022, RT Sandown 150 IRO, Juan Botha and his wife Samantha Botha, had the pleasure of hosting their fellow South African Round tablers at the Mauritius AGM and AMI event.

This included members from RT Sandown 150, RT Florida, RT Kloof 190 and RT Pretoria 201. With a total of 7 tablers and 5 partners the 2 weeks that followed included some unforgettable pre- tour events organized by Juan and Samantha Botha such as:

- A trip to 7 Sands and Curious Corner followed by some of the best local food.

- A local wooden boat trip to Amber Island with a traditional seafood Mauritian lunch.

- Meet and greet including a formal meeting with RT Reunion.

- A catamaran trip to Gabriel Island and snorkeling at Coin de Mer with RT Reunion, RT Mauritius, RT Southern Africa, Ladies Circle President, Ladies Circle Mauritius 2.

- A fellowship evening at the home of RT Mauritius President starting off with a local bus trip where fun and fellowship was had by everyone.

- Many restaurants and Local attractions

The final weekend was the main event with a gathering of fellow Round Tablers from around the world at the Ravenala Hotel. Friday, started off with registration followed by the RT Mauritius AGM which began on “Mauritian Time” which is normally 30 minutes to 1 hour late.

As the sun started to set saw the commencement of the Round Table Food Evening. There were some very interesting foods to taste many different local beverages as well as some colorful and decorative tablers proudly representing their countries. Later in the evening saw tablers dancing to local and international music and some tablers even went for a late-night swim in the pool.

Saturday, the AMI Meeting started off again at “Mauritian Time”, however, I am sure that many did not mind considering the festivities that was had the night before.

The Gala Dinner everyone looked dressed to impressed and the event followed with many speeches and welcoming of new council members.

South Africa had the honor of our current RTSA President Werner Swanepoel, the Past RTSA President Stefan Grobler, RTSA IRO Gerhard Van Der Berg and RTI President Graham Cornelissen at the Mauritius AGM and AMI weekend.

A special thank-you needs to be mentioned to following RT Mauritius Round members:

Later in the year saw Sandown 150 IRO meet and greet with RT Denmark, RT Italy and RT Seychelles for lunches and home parties.

As a result of the great fellowship RT Sandown 150 had in Mauritius we will be hosting the following RT Mauritian Tablers for ARTSA 2023:

ARTSA 2023:

On the 20th of April 2023, RT Sandown 150 had the pleasure of hosting members from RT Mauritius and Mauritius Ladies Circle for the annual ARTSA conference held at Weesgerus, Modimolle. For this Pre-tour we decided to not inform them of where we were going and what we were doing to make each day as exciting as the next.

The pre-tour started off with the Past RTSA President Stefan Grobler and his lovely wife Vicky Grobler showing them what a true South African Braai is. It was the first time they tasted a paptert which was a big hit, and a takeaway was requested.

Saturday, RT Sandown 150 opened their clubhouse for some fun and fellowship. Banner exchanges were made.

Sunday, we decided to have a sneak peek into what might come in the following days so off we went all in one bus to the Rhino and Lion Park followed by a late lunch at the restaurant Upper Deck. Monday was the start of the true adventure. We woke up early and packed the bus heading off to Mabalingwe Nature Reserve. Everyone was so excited to experience the South African bush. That night we were joined by a past member of RT Sandown 150 Egbert Harmse, who brough along a tabler from Round Table Sweden, David Nilsson.

INKUNDLA | Sept 2023 | 85

The following days we filled with beautiful sunsets, many game drives and of course a stop at one of the most famous pubs Kalahari Oasis.

Thursday, we left Mabalingwe with some great memories and fellowship and heading to ARTSA.

After registration and sorting out accommodation we all headed to the hardcore hut. Later that evening was once of the best openings for ARTSA we had ever seen followed by some sights most of us never want to see again at the theme party.

Friday started with the forums followed later that afternoon by Food tables. Round Table Mauritius decided that they wanted to be part of the experience and per-arranged with the help of RT Sandown 150 and ARTSA to have an authentic Mauritian food table. There they also promoted the Mauritius AGM happening at the end of May 2023.

Saturday saw the last official day of the ARTSA conference. The AGM was held in the morning followed by thevening Gala Dinner.

Sunday, we packed the bus with only a few Mauritians, and we said out farewells to some of the Mauritian Round Tabler’s and David from Round table Sweden as they were returning home later that day.

Monday, we decided to go for dinner at Fireroom in Monte Casino as a thank-you and farewell. In the Month of May, Juan Botha from Round Table Sandown 150, attended the Mauritius AGM weekend were the fellowship continued.

36 Team Building Social

From a fellowship working event to a Team building social. A 41ér asked our Tablers to open the clubhouse for support and fellowship, which than turned in to a “lekker” team build social event.

The ladies and some of the tablers assisted in the making of the goody bags for the ladies’ event that we are hosting in July for the YES project. Some of the tablers was part of the daddy day care program (thank you for the donation).

Some of the tablers was practicing in their skills on the dart board that was hidden for so long at the club house and recently reallocated with the changes that took place in the clubhouse. Some of the tablers was practicing in the Knobble skills to win the next league.

We than asked Garry jnr. for “braaing” some “lekker boerewors”. It was nice to see Uncle Altus to go back to Grade R for some “spoeg” and “plak”. At some stage it got very difficult that he needed the assistance for Google to find the glue spot.

Waldo couldn’t decide where he wanted to assist; he was a very good guidance teacher in all the departments. When the legs jump away with their wonderful talents there was no stopping them, the manage to finish all the goody bags decoration in the time spend at the clubhouse.

Dannie can you please share with us all what you were hiding from, was this maybe Rachalle that was ordering you around or Melissa that was to bossy. Renske was completely on fire with this goody bags that needed to be completed and to look as pretty as they need. She motivated all the legs in all the different why she could, You rock!!!

Elmari, we are so glad to see that you know how to use a whip, we can see you have some 50 Shades of practicing!!! Edrich, glad to see you have done your share to proof you do not only want to be a member for the “lekker” parts of Tabling but also for the working and assisting parts. We thank an anonymous Tabler for the word said to remind you

what will be expected from you from time to time.

Leigh thank you for setting up the printer as asked from the Leg in charge of the Yes Project, also thanks for rearranging the banners and bar area.

When the two Westerdale brothers teach Monicques how to use a spray can. When a soon to be Leg show her husband how to fold a “strikkie”. Chris this seems to have a lot of concentration requirements. Byron on which side do you want you bread buttered? You were all over the place!!!!

With this I end my report by thanking everyone that made this one for the books.

Hosting of Felix from Amburg 69, Germany

It was with short notice we were contacted by Felix as he and his Newly Wedded Wife, Friday evening the 7th of July as they were on their way from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund for 2 nights in our coastal town.

RT 36 had planned for a social for the 8th at our chairman – Monolitos place of residence, so what better to do than take them to meet all of us.

As I stay in Swakopmund, I made contact to invite them with to our social gathering and the plan was to take them to the top of the Longbeach Dune on Saturday afternoon to have a liquid refreshment or 2 and then hit the road to join in the festivities with my other Tablers and 41ers

Due to the wind that decided to push through from the South, we had heavy winds in both coastal towns and between them, so the plans to go have a beer

with a view was cancelled. We drove straight through to Walvis Bay and made a pitstop at our clubhouse to have a beer there instead.

We had good talks and spoke mainly about our table and what we have been doing for the past 12 months or so and they spent time looking through all the history that we have hanging all over our clubhouse. After that, we then headed on to join in the festivities at Mono’s home.

We had a fun filled evening where not only one International Traveling Family joined but 2… but Ill leave for someone else to report on.

On top of that, we will be awaiting on our chairman Monolito to give us a full and extensive report on his well run and amazing evening of fellowship and lots, I mean LOTS of food, fun and games

that were played and just one amazing evening.

Mono and his lovely wife have set the bar with regards to hosting a social, and I would like to thank them once again for all their efforts that evening. I’m sure everyone especially the traveling guests enjoyed it very much.

I, PJ and our wives ended off the evening by getting Felix and his wife back to Swakopmund at a respectable time as they had more activities planned for the following day.

We then decided to make a pitstop before going home at not such a respectable time, we played a few round Knobel, where I lost just about all of the games, had a few beers and more fun was had… for everyone but me that kept losing…

Joppie s Winter Knights Experience

As June 2023 approaches us, it felt like Elsa from Frozen brought Olaf back to me this year. And I don’t even know any Samantha at all.

This year my wife also thought she could excuse herself once a gain from joining me but my mind flipped her by arranging my children’s nanny to come in early to assist the kids. With this I got my wife her own conner to make money for RT 36 (Best Table Ever).

We joined with Walvis Bay on their corner, Sam Nujoma Street, and 11th Road, where all the “Tannies” and Uncles were “skitting” a “blikkie ” or a boxie.

One of our guests Mr T joined us on this corner, we were on our post by 06h00. It was a misty raining morning and I was preparing a nice cup of joe for everyone.

We were blest by kind people with their good harts which donated towards the project.

While my fellow teammates were doing their best, I was surprised by Radio Nova presenter Karlien who did a live stream about Winter Knights with me. I use my very best English which was finished after 5min.

After we finished a full 2 hours of “lekker

blikkie skut” we were ready to start of our daily task for the day.

We thank FNB for their nice, kind, and fun full fellowship they once again provide us with. I would glad team with them next year to even go bigger and better with loads of more fun to experience.

We also thank our community for their supporting us but next year we would appreciate if you will past our corner firstly.
