Protecting Your Family’s Inheritance Most people hope that their estate will pass on to their children and grandchildren eventually. But this will not happen for many, unless careful arrangements have been made to protect their assets from being taken towards the end of their life to pay for care home fees. The solution to help protect your estate is a Will incorporating a Property Protection Trust (PPT). A testamentary PPT can only be executed whilst both partners remain alive. Upon death of the first partner, their Will specifies that their share of the property is placed into trust and names the ultimate beneficiary of this share, normally the children and grandchildren of the deceased. The surviving partner, under the terms of the Trust, has the unequivocal right to remain living in the property for the rest of their life. On the death of the second partner the Trust comes to an end and the property passes to the beneficiaries.

7

7

As the surviving partner does not own the deceased's share of the property it is fully protected for the beneficiaries, so if the surviving partner requires care, or even remarries, this share of the children's inheritance is protected. This last point can be of particular interest to couples who have come together and have children from different partners. A PPT can help each person in a relationship ensure that their children inherit their share of the property, while giving their surviving partner the ability to live in the property for the rest of their life. If the surviving partner wants to move to another property they can still sell the property and the proceeds be used to purchase a new property; the terms of the Trust remain over the new property. Westminster Law will assess your current circumstances and arrange the trust that will provide the best protection for you, your family and your assets.

Method

Serves 2 people, preparation time 20 mins, cooking time 30mins

Our Number One Funeral Directors - New Branch opened in Stoney Stanton A friendly, family run funeral directing service Charlotte Graham & Daughters, is opening a second office to help people gain peace of mind by choosing their end of life arrangements Established more than five years ago, this well respected independent company has gained an excellent reputation for arranging both traditional and natural burial funerals, assisting bereaved families to celebrate the lives of their loved one and incorporating their wishes and preferences into the proceedings. Their website includes many tributes from clients giving thanks for the sensitivity, dignity and reassurance given as customers paid their respects and goodbyes. Now the company has opened an additional office in Stoney

Women that Connect Local Women’s Business Networking Group A professional womenâ€&#x;s business networking group for local businesses is proving to be extremely successful and is well into its 2nd year and currently has 33 members. The Women that Connect Group is an exclusive membership group meaning only one member per profession/industry is invited to join meaning that the Group has a good, diverse mix of businesses. The launch meeting in September 2016 was a great success and subsequent meetings have proved similarly successful. It is certainly proving a great way for Leicestershire and Warwickshire women business owners to meet. The monthly lunchtime meetings, held at Ullesthorpe Court Hotel, are friendly and relaxed yet professional allowing members to build new business relationships whilst cementing existing ones and form new friendships.

19 19

Clare Farrell of Northfield Wealth Management spoke at the May lunch meeting. Clare clearly demonstrated her knowledge and certainly is our go to for pensions advice as well as of course mortgages and all things financial . As has been said a few times since the launch meeting we are privileged to hear such excellent presentations. It was again agreed that this is a fabulous group and it is great that members feel happy to speak so personally. Guests are welcome to attend a maximum of two meetings a year as long as there is no clash with a business who is already a member of the group. If you are interested in joining this successful group, please contact Debbie of Roundabout the Villages on 07751 211019 or email her at debbie@roundaboutthevillages.co.uk for further information and to see if the business slot is available. Why not take a look at the website and discover more about the members and the meetings.

Welcome to our Newsletter There was an interesting article in the Property press this week titled “Honestly – why does Conveyancing take SO long?”. On average, nationally the current time to go through the sales process to completion is 4 months, not the 2 months that is mentioned at the beginning of the instruction. WHY when it’s a straight forward process?? Well, the article (written by solicitor) states that inherited problems from previous generations of Solicitors (who were less than diligent with the paperwork) means that all title deeds and leases have to be thoroughly checked and clarified, and this is due to the litigation culture. It is now very common for people to try and profit from property disputes, which means that they have to be very careful to protect their clients, the mortgage lender and themselves. Secondly, is the actual Solicitor - some do not do the industry or themselves any favours. Ensuring that all issues arising in a case are effectively addressed requires organisation, process efficiency and modern, decent technology - something that can be quite alien to some. Lack of decent technology means endless inefficient paper systems which cause delays and frustration at the enquiry stage. Lastly, caseloads, which due to the pressure on fees requires each Solicitor to take on more and more. It is not unknown for each Conveyancer to handle 100 cases at a time. Such high caseloads combined with the constant interruption of the telephone, due mainly to a lack of proactivity, will always slow the process. So, it was a brief but honest article highlighting the issues within their industry. GET ON WITH IT!

hinckley@martinco.com Don’t you just love a good heat map. This one shows the average house prices around Hinckley and Burbage. Where’s your house? Hot spot, or cold?

£300,000 As Letting Agents we’re always being bashed about our fees by armchair generals who think they understand business. One such occasion was about a tenancy renewal fee. He couldn’t comprehend that it should cost anything because “it was just a templated document that needed to be printed out”. This has been a regular argument banded about by the fee banning brigade but I asked him; Who printed it out? An employee? Who pays their wages or do they volunteer? What about their pension contributions, and training etc? The computer, software, printer and the desk and chair they were sitting on, and pen and paper and ink, who paid for all that? The electricity to power it all and the shop that he was sitting in, was all of that paid for by a generous charitable donation? No and that’s why fees are charged.

The me&dee registered charity was formed in 2006 to create special memory experiences when time is short or precious. To date, more than 2,000 families have been helped through the support of our charity. Wow, what a day this turned out to be with around 600 bikers turning out this year, raising funds for Daz's Den, our holiday chalet based in Mablethorpe. Once again Donna and Dean Batchelor, along with their fantastic team organised a fantastic ride, the biggest yet in the 3 years this event has been going. As the day promised to be a lovely day people were starting to arrive early, ready to enjoy a day at the seaside. The me&dee team were in The Dunes Complex, busy setting up the stall and getting the buckets ready for our team of collectors to hit the streets for a few hours later in the day. The Ride to the Dunes team were checking the route in and parking arrangements, make no mistake, this event is a year in the planning, it's not easy. Word is out, the riders have set off from The Wolds Pub Restaurant in Nottingham, they are being led out by the Nottinghamshire Fire Brigade (West Bridgford), they are on the way to Tattershall to join up with many more bikers. Riders have left Tattershall and are on the way, along with the RTTD marshals, volunteer bikers, helping on the

Charity Page day to make sure it's a safe ride for everyone. As the day goes on crowds begin to gather as the arrival time nears, the biggest crowd to be seen for this event, being entertained by DJ Raz from the Dunes Complex. The time has arrived, they are forming up at the top of the High Street, ready for their parade in to the centre of Mablethorpe, led in by the Mablethorpe Fire Brigade. As they turn left on to Quebec Road they are shown in to the car parks that have been put by for their arrival and as the noise subsides, riders dismount and head off for the various places to take a well-earned drink and snack on what has turned out to be a very hot day. What a sight they were, the noise of the crowd, the noise of the bikes, it all makes for a fantastic, enjoyable experience for rider and viewer alike. A massive thank you to everyone connected with this Ride Out from the guys in Nottingham to all the businesses that helped Donna and her team in Mablethorpe. Donna was delighted to announce that the ride had raised £7,897, a fantastic amount, thank you everyone.” Maria added “this will make such a difference for the side of our charity which helps severely injured service men and women to take a much-needed respite holiday at the sea-side and I am so grateful for the friendship, care and support given to our charity”. Charity Page Happy Tails !!

Leicester Animal Aid is a charity dedicated to finding new forever homes for the dogs and cats that come into the Centre who are lost, abandoned, unwanted or because their owners can no longer look after them. Jacob was one of seven Shih Tzu cross puppies who arrived at the Centre after living in awful squalid conditions. As it was December, the LAA team had fun giving them seasonal names, some from A Christmas Carol, including Carol, Eve, Ebby and Belle. All the puppies found their forever homes and Jacob found his with Vicki and Nelly. Vicki said: “We had been looking for a companion for our dog Nelly and saw Jacob on the LAA website and hoped he could be the one for us. Our initial meetings with him went well, everyone was so helpful and Nelly didn’t object, so happily we were able to bring him home. “He is such a lovely chap, gentle and kind. He loves to snuggle and snooze on my lap. He was a little shy and clingy at first, but we have given him the time he needed to adapt to his new life and gain confidence. “He was slow on his walks at first but he has gained so much fitness from trying to keep up with Nelly, he races along now. We couldn’t imagine life without him so will be forever grateful to all at LAA.”

Paris, a stunning 4 to 5 year-old Oriental cat arrived at the Centre in October 2017 and went home in March this year with Chrissie, Mike, Chloe and Fledge. “We have always had rescue dogs and cats, and, having lost our last rescue Oriental cat, we thought we would really like to offer a home to another. We spotted Paris on LAA’s website and arranged a visit. “The Centre was an eye opener, completely different from any others we’d been to, every cat pod was spacious with outdoor access and filled with beddings, toys and scratch posts along with the chill-out rooms with comfy sofas where you can meet and get to know the cats. It was obvious that staff worked hard to ensure the right home for Paris and after a number of twice weekly visits, with and without Chloe the dog, she finally came home with us. “She is demanding and opinionated, loves climbing and exploring and has to sleep in our bed under the covers at night but she’s fabulous company for all of us and the house is no longer quiet and empty now Paris is in charge!”

Advert on Page 19

We recently had a dent and scratch on our car. As soon as it happened I knew there was only one man for the job. From asking Ian to take a look to ensure he could repair it so that we would not have to go to a main dealer his service was excellent. I knew if he couldn't repair it, he would say but fortunately he could do. When we collected it, even though I know Ian’s work is superb, as some friends have previously used him, I still really could not believe how amazing it looked, as though it had never happened. Thank you so much Ian. In the nicest possible way I hope I don't have to see you again with our car but I know where you are if we do :-) Debbie Heron, Roundabout Hinckley owner and editor
