ARC 2626 INTERNSHIP REPORT STUDENT NAME : CHEN ROU ANN STUDENT NO : 1001G76463 I began to work in ZLG on the 5th of January 2015, in Sentul. On the first few days, apart from the project we were assigned to, we were also given some talks and Ar. Huat gave us a detailed talk on the process of designing to the final stages. Apart from that, Briswood is a residential office project in Bukit Jalil. I was assigned to do the wall assembly planned for the tender drawings. The process of the drawings helped me speed up my auto-cad skills, and it also helps me figure out a lot of things that I missed when I learnt Auto Cad on my own. (BW 1) Apart from the tender drawings, we made a digital 3D model of the building too. We separated it in 3 parts, the podium, the office block and the residential block. The separate 3D models are then being pulled in together in another file. After rendering the building, it will then be photo shopped. (BW 2) A detailed model was made, with the scale of 1:250. (BW 3) We also had the chance to sit in a meeting with the client discussing the designs of the building and how to improve it. (BW 4) The meeting proved to be fruitful as an observation of the meeting is made and the connection of the architects and the client is witnessed. Durian Tunggal, luxury condominium in Malacca is a project we first did when we arrived at ZLG. The project was then later dropped, but the experience was cherished. We designed the façade and the placement of the void, we also discuss about the ‘chain’ i.e. the path leading from block 1 to block 14. We too made the study model and did extensive studies and design for the project. (DT 1) We then discover different ways to create difference in each building and made a few new models to test the results. We play around with the façade and the shape until we were satisfied. After that, we presented our ideas to the directors. (DT 2) Belfield is situated near Stadium Merdeka. I was assigned to modify the digital 3D model. The base of the model had already been structured by my colleague, and I was assigned to add the details of the building and modify the tower blocks. (BF 1) After detailing, designs were adjusted and corrected on the spot. Me and my group were given the opportunity to intern in Lafarge for 2 weeks. During the time, we visited the Construction Development Lab (CDL) and had hands on experience with the experimentations of concrete. We took a tour in the CDL and had a day in the lab which we had a seen with our own eyes the process of experimentation of concretes and how test them, while improving their products. We had the chance to visit the Rawang limestone quarry and set our eyes on the view from a distance. (LF1) We then visited the cement plant in Rawang and had an in depth tour around the factory and we had someone to explain the process to us step by step. We had a close up view of the machines and experience the vast gigantic factory. We weren’t allowed to take pictures in the plant due to confidentiality purposes. (LF 2) The other plant we had the chance to visit is the Lafarge dry mix plant in Jalan Chan Sow Lin. Its Malaysia’s first indoor dry mix plant and it’s eco-friendly. (LF 3) The plant sets apart from the others because they were clean, and they encourage environment friendly protocols. The dust were kept at minimal and everything is in order. (LF 4) A lot of the features in the plant is reusable and recyclable. This shows that the company understands and is conscious on not only sourcing limited materials, but they are willing to give back to Mother Nature too. We were given the chance to design and make our own cement. Concrete were encourage to be environmental friendly and sustainable, without forgetting the astatic value of the product. We were given a day in the lab to mix and make our concrete. We measure the parts, the sand, cement, aggregates and chemicals, mixed it and made our design. (LF 5) Marbles were pushed into cement to create a surface. During the night, when spotlight is directed towards the cement, the concrete will create a starry shiny effect. (LF 6) The cement is incorporate into a part of a resort, to demonstrate on the examples of how it can be used. (LF 7) We then presented our products to the Country CEO, the Cement Manager, ZLG directors, our dean – Mr Tony and also one of the lecturers, Mr Keith. After presentation, critiques were given and discussions were held to share our opinions. (LF 8, LF 9 & LF 10)
