IA ORANA, KIA ORA, KIA ORANA, BULA, TALOFA, MALO E LELEI, HELLO, BONJOUR, WELCOME, BIENVENUE, Dear friends , Well, this year of governorship is coming to an end. Telling you it was an easy task for me would be too much. Telling you that everything was perfect would obviously be far from reality. Fortunately, District 9920 is very well structured. With its strong committees and their chairmen's vigilance, with the Past Governors' irreplaceable experience, with the commitment and dedication of many Rotarians ,District 9920 will always go forward. From my remote Polynesia I had no idea of the complexity of the task of a Governor in such a large and diverse district. The recent integration of the Rotary Clubs of French Polynesia in District 9920 had not prepared my club and myself to such heavy responsibilities. We did our best even it did not always meet your expectations . I do not claim our achievements, they are the success of all the Rotarians of our District. On the other hand, I totally assume our errors, failures and the missed opportunities because, whatever the circumstances, the Governor has to anticipate, plan, prepare and make final decisions when necessary. Fortunately, I was supported by a strong and united team of highly experienced Assistant Governors, often heavily involved in the District Committees and within their own clubs. Whenever it was necessary,I received advice of a wonderful Immediate Past District Governor in the person of Leanne Jaggs, whose experience, energy and stainless good humor were irreplaceable. The strength and sense of organization of Alan Eyes, our future Governor, as well as the friendly complicity of Ron Seeto, the incoming District Governor Elect, have also given me valuable support. The caring friendship of RI Coordinator Ron Crabtree and the advice of Past District Governors Tony Fortune, Bob Young, Stuart Searle, Beryl Robinson, Colin Nicholas , Warwick Pleass, our remarkable District Trainer, Jack and Alan Davies,proved invaluable. I will not forget the continuous support of Roy Austin, District Rotary Foundation Committee Chairman, of all his committee chairs, kingpins of the enormous machine which this Committeerepresents , John Cornaga, very active PR/Membership District Committee Chairman. I should mention many other leaders and Rotarians in our District, such as PDG Craig Ross, Martin McGahan, Allan McKay, Gaye Harford, Don Leith, who helped to make things easier for me this year having such heavy
responsibilities. But I can not list them all , there are so many of them , so, let them forgive me knowing that I have not forgotten them and that I am, that we are all infinitely grateful to them for their help and dedication. I would just honor them mentioning he last Rotarian of our District , but certainly not the least, in the person of Rotary International Past President Bill Boyd, the new President of The Rotary Foundation. Who could have said that we would be here today in our respective roles, President Bill, when, at the instigation of Warwick Pleass, Governor Elect you had welcomed me in your office at the Rotary International Convention of Copenhagen in June 2006. Since then , at each of our meetings, either during District events or through meetings in RI Conventions or in airports, you have always shown me your friendship and lavished on me friendly encouragement which touched my heart. I am very grateful to you about it. But , fundamentally , at the base of Rotary and District, there are Rotary Clubs and Rotarians. Beyond the District administration carried out through its management team, with Assistant Governors and Committees, in my view, the Governor's role is to be the link between Rotary International and the District on the one hand, and the Clubs on the other hand. In fact the governor is the only power in the District to maintain a tangible and personal contact with both the Club presidents and Rotarians in their entirety.There probably lies my greatest frustration. Because of my remoteness and all that it induces in the way of costs, fatigue, shortness of visits, I have not found the opportunity to develop enough my relationship with the clubs, especially in New Zealand. And yet, a club is revealed through its actions and not so much during an official visit which often has to be shortened because of scheduledcontingencies. How I regret not to have been able to be present at weekends to participate in varied and often extraordinary activities organized by the clubs of New Zealand for the benefit of their communities. Nevertheless, the visits and the contacts I have been able to develop throughout this year with both Rotary clubs in New Zealand and those of the Pacific Islands were an extraordinary human adventure . At the end of three years as Governor Nominee, elected and current I do not pretend to be thoroughly familiar with the seven countries and the populations included in our district which are so rich because of
their ethnic,cultural, religious and political diversities. If I had some knowledge of the Pacific island states, my knowledge of New Zealand was limited to a few shots that I am ashamed to list so conventional they look : the All Blacks, the bane of the Blues, Sir Edmund Percival Hillary in view of my past in the Alpine troops, the America's Cup which I understand that you are so proud of, being a sailor myself , The Lord of the Rings, which did so much to make your wonderful country known all over the world, your succulent beef and mutton, your passion for ecology and your horror of nuclear in all its forms . During these last three years I discovered that New Zealand is much more than that: a wonderful country to top the charts of the safest countries, one of those where it is best to live, a generous country even though natural resources are limited. These three years have especially enabled me to find that New Zealanders are a nation of pioneers, led by an exemplary patriotism but not chauvinistic, proud of what they have , run by a collective ethic sometimes uncompromising but oh so much responsible, hardworking,pragmatic, friendly and altruistic. They allowed me to discover through your six Rotarian Districts an ideal Rotary as I conceived it, but which is often difficult to live in France because of our Gallic mentality . During the quarrels which occurred in our Polynesian clubs how many times have I quoted the serenity of your clubmeetings and encouraged my Rotarian Polynesian friends to visit you and follow the example of what our clubs should be like. During these three years in the vast territory of District 9920 I was able to discover the work of Rotary International, the cooperation between Districts and the most and least advantaged Rotary clubs or clubs affected by disasters of all kind. On the spot I was able to witness accomplishments reported by the Rotary countless plaques recalling the role of a particular New-Zealander, Australian or other District or club . Countless clubs in the world also contribute to help us , to strengthen communities and to bridge continents and islands. I was able to rub shoulders with all the Fellows of Rotary, Rotary International Youth Exchange or study groups, or ROTAPAC , RYLA, Rotaract. I was able to see the admirable achievements of Peter Village in Lautoka, the eye hospital of our friend Geof Amos in Taveuni Island, the water supply systems established by the Rotary Foundation for Pacific Water Life in Fiji and the ingenious water filtration plant of Rotary Club Savusavu, libraries established throughout New Zealand, Samoa ,Fiji, French
Polynesia, in schools where computers and sanitation are often the work of our Rotary clubs. How moving and exciting it was to attend surgery as we did in Lautoka General Hospital with President of Rotary International Elected Banergee Kalyan and his wife Binot : operations of plastic reconstruction on children disfigured by birth or by accident as part of INTERPLAST campaigns or as ROMAC does .The work achieved in our District 9920 is extraordinary and the spirit in which it is carried out is admirable. I can not tell you how many times in the course of my duties as a Governor I really felt proud of being a Rotarian and especially in District 9920 and how many times I had to repress my tears when facing such extraordinary achievements or emotional situations. Of course, I can not mention all the achievements of Rotary in District 9920 exhaustively. The paricipants can as they are all the Rotarians of the district. They intervened in their different ways, either by giving their money, or by giving their time, either by giving their fellow Rotarians the means toachieve them or by only showing with their compassion to those less fortunate or in distress with a gesture or a simple word. This morning I want to thank them all for you from the bottom of my heart. In my induction speech as a governor last year, I highlighted some points that seemed essential: the increase in number of our clubs and especially their rejuvenation, openness to new generations, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between sister clubs in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, or even between clubs of the Pacific Islands themselves, increasing our contribution to The Rotary Foundation. Regards to this I can not say that our results are extremely positive . Despite the creation of Rotary E-Club 9920 Francophone and commendable progress made by some clubs that doubled their membership during the year such as Apia or increased it such as Otahuhu, Pohutukawa Coast, Auckland and many others I forget, our district has lost about forty Rotarians particularly in French Polynesia which is experiencing a very serious economic crisis and in some small clubs in New Zealand or Fiji. We are far away from the goal of Rotary to try and get all the clubs to reach a minimum number of 20 Rotarians in 2013. In terms of rejuvenation, the club of Suva Peninsula Sunset is an example with an average age below 40 . Creating New Generations Rotary Clubs is a brilliant solution exhibited at the District Conference. It is not However , it is not a panacea. The Rotary Club of Auckland who has led an intelligent policy in recruiting young members is a good example with 25% of its membership under 45 years of age. The ideal is to make sure not to create a generation gap within your clubs nor to recruit at all cost. When clubs are unable to regenerate their
membership, they have a duty to try and create a new club recruiting young members and relying on more attractive basis before disappearing themselves. The PR Committee Membership should include a subcommittee of expansion in charge of studying possible solutions in common with these clubs and of proposing desirable creations to the Governor . This work tool does not currently exist and I missed it this year. The New Generations Committee itself has been strengthened and rejuvenated. Forthe Governor it must be a valuable policy of openness and development of new generations whose membership must increase . Interact clubs, Rotaract clubs are potential breeding grounds for Rotary. We must absolutely develop them wherever it is possible. This task is usually left to the only initiative of clubs while the District should pursue an incentive policy in this direction through Committees PR / Membership / Expansion and New Generations. A new Rotaract club should be created within the University of the Pacific in Suva very soon. A Rotaract club could also be created in the University of French Polynesia, the means is there. Very many interactions are possible including clubs in secondary schools or vocational schools. The Rotary of tomorrow will be what you want it to be . I will go back to the island of Moorea before the end of the week and share my time between my family who is settling down in France for good, and French Polynesia, where I am trying to make myself useful to a country which is now totally destabilized and whose most disadvantaged population suffers from the consequences of political , moral and economic crisis . I will also continue to study the books on which I was working some time ago and which I had given up to devote myself more to Rotary. Some of you were concerned about my future Rotary activity. I reassure them straight away. I am a Rotarian and I'll go back to the foundation of Rotary, its basic unit: the club. Because of geographical and financial constraints I could not consider being an active and permanent member of some District Committees . It would have been hypocritical. However, I would like to serve the district as part of the skills that are mine: the development of membership and new clubs particularly in the area of New Generations. I am passionate about the adventure represented by Rotary E-Clubs, which , contrary to the received ideas of some clubs are very friendly and whose area of expertise is international. I am also interested in everything concerning the sustaining water purification system , water sanitation and renewable energy in isolated communities such as islands and atolls of the Pacific. This should give me the opportunity to continue serving the District in another way and to continue Strengthening Communities and Bridging Continents.All of you , Rotarians and Leaders of District 9920 are an
extraordinary community of skill, dedication, compassion and friendship. I am one of you and I am looking forward to continuing my journey within Rotary with you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done this year with the district team, for the kindness and friendship you have always shown .. I will be happy and delighted to meet you all again. I am sure our roads will cross again.

IA ORANA, KIA ORA, KIA ORANA, BULA, TALOFA, MALO E LELEI, HELLO, BONJOUR, WELCOME, BIENVENUE, Chers amis, Voilà, cette année de gouvernorat se termine. Vous dire que cela aura été pour moi une sinécure serait exagéré. Vous dire que tout a été parfait serait évidemment loin de la réalité. Fort heureusement, le District 9920 est très bien structuré. Grâce à ses solides Comités et à la vigilance de leurs Présidents, à l'expérience irremplaçable des Past Gouverneurs, à l'engagement et au dévouement de nombreux Rotariens, le district 9920 ira toujours de l'avant. Je n'imaginais pas, de ma lointaine Polynésie, la complexité de la tâche que représente la fonction de gouverneur dans un District aussi vaste et hétérogène. L'intégration récente des Rotary Clubs de Polynésie française au sein du District 9920, ne nous avait pas préparé, mon club et moimême, à de si lourdes responsabilités. Nous avons fait de notre mieux quand bien même ce mieux n'a pas toujours été à la hauteur de vos attentes et également des nôtres. Je ne revendique pas nos réussites, ce sont celles de tous les Rotariens du District. J'assume en revanche pleinement les erreurs, les échecs, les occasions manquées car, quelles que soient les circonstances, c'est au gouverneur de prévoir, préparer et prendre les décisions finales quand cela est nécessaire. Heureusement, j'avais autour de moi une équipe solide et soudée d'Assistants gouverneurs particulièrement expérimentés, souvent très fortement impliqués au sein des Comités du district et au sein de leurs propres clubs. J'ai bénéficié, chaque fois que cela a été nécessaire, des conseils d'une merveilleuse Immediate Past District Gouverneure en la personne de Leanne Jaggs dont l'expérience, le dynamisme et la bonne humeur inoxydable m'ont été une aide irremplaçable. La solidité et le sens de l'organisation d'Alan Eyes, notre futur Gouverneur, autant que l'amicale complicité de Ron Seeto, Gouverneur de District Elu entrant, ont également été pour moi un soutien précieux. L'amitié bienveillante du Coordinateur du Rotary Ron Crabtree ainsi que les conseils avisés des past districts gouverneurs Tony Fortune, Bob Young, Stuart Searle, Beryl Robinson, Colin Nicholas, Warwick Pleass, notre remarquable District trainer, Alan et Jack Davies se sont avérés irremplaçables. Je n'aurai garde d'oublier le concours constant de RoyAustin, à la tête du Comité de District de La Fondation Rotary, de tous ses
présidents de Comités, chevilles ouvrières de l'énorme machine qu'est ce Comité, de John Cornaga, Président très actif du Comité relations publiques/Effectif. Je devrais citer bien d'autres Dirigeants et Rotariens de notre District, tels le PDG Ross Graig, Martin McGahan, Allan McKay, Gaye Harford, Don Leith, qui ont contribué à rendre plus aisée pour moi cette année de lourdes responsabilités. Mais je ne saurai les citer tous tant ils sont nombreux; qu'ils me pardonnent donc en sachant que je ne les oublie pas et que je leur suis, que nous leur sommes tous, infiniment reconnaissants de leur aide et de leur dévouement. Je me contenterai de leur rendre hommage au travers du dernier Rotarien du District que je citerai et non le moindre, en la personne du Past Président du Rotary International Bill Boyd, actuel président de La Fondation Rotary. Qui aurait pu dire que nous nous retrouverions ici aujourd'hui dans nos rôles respectifs, President Bill, lorsque, sur l'instigation du Gouverneur élu Warwick Pleass, vous m'aviez reçu, dans votre bureau lors de la Convention de Copenhague en juin 2006. Depuis, à chacune de nos rencontres, que ce soit lors des événements Rotariens du District ou au hasard des conventions ou de nos correspondances dans les aéroports, vous m'avez toujours manifesté votre amitié et prodigué un encouragement amical qui me faisait chaud au coeur. Aussi, je vous en suis infiniment reconnaissant. Mais le Rotary et le District, à la base, fondamentalement, ce sont les Rotary clubs et les Rotariens. Au-delà de l'administration du district qui se fait au travers de son équipe dirigeante, des assistants Gouverneurs et des Comités, le rôle essentiel du Gouverneur est, à mes yeux, d'être le lien entre le Rotary International et le District d'un côté, les Clubs de l'autre côté. Le gouverneur est en effet le seul dans le District à pouvoir maintenir un contact tangible et personnalisé avec à la fois les présidents et les Rotariens des clubs dans leur ensemble. Là se trouve peut être pour moi ma plus grande frustration. Du fait de mon éloignement et de tout ce que cela induit en coûts, fatigue, brièveté des visites, je n'ai pas eu la possibilité de développer davantage mes relations avec les clubs, en particulier en Nouvelle Zélande. Or c'est dans le cadre de ses actions qu'un club se révèle et non pas tant dans le cadre d'une visite officielle souvent brève en raison des contingences horaires. Combien ai-je regretté de ne pas pouvoir être présent durant les weekends pour participer aux activités variées et souvent extraordinaires organisées par les clubs de NouvelleZélande au profit de leurs collectivités.
Pour autant ces visites et les contacts que j'ai quand même pu développer tout au long de cette année aussi bien avec les Rotary clubs de Nouvelle-Zélande qu'avec ceux des Îles du Pacifique ont constitué une extraordinaire aventure humaine. Je n'ai pas la prétention au bout des trois années comme Gouverneur Nominé, Elu et en titre de connaître parfaitement les 7 autres pays constituant notre District et leur population, si riches par leurs diversités ethnique, culturelle, religieuse et politique. Si j'avais quelques connaissances concernant les Etats insulaires du Pacifique, ma connaissance de la Nouvelle-Zélande se limitait à quelques clichés que j'ai honte d'énumérer tant ils vont vous paraître conventionnels : les All Black, la bête noire des Bleus, Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, eut égard à mon passé dans les troupes Alpines, la Coupe de l'America dont, en tant que voileux, je comprends que vous soyez si fiers, le Seigneur des Anneaux, qui a tant fait pour faire connaître votre merveilleux pays, vos succulentes viandes de boeuf et de mouton, votre passion pour l'écologie et votre horreur du nucléaire sous toutes ses formes. Ces trois dernières années m'ont permis de découvrir que la Nouvelle-Zélande est bien plus que cela : un merveilleux pays en haut du hit parade des pays les plus sûrs, un de ceux où il fait le meilleur vivre, un pays généreux quand bien même ses ressources naturelles sont limitées. Ces trois années m'ont permis surtout de découvrir en la personne des Néo-Zélandais, un peuple de pionniers, animé par un patriotisme exemplaire mais non pas chauvin, fier de ce qu'il s'est fait, animé par une éthique collective quelquefois intransigeante mais oh combien responsable, travailleur, pragmatique, responsable, chaleureux et altruiste. Elles m'ont permis de découvrir au travers de vos six Districts Rotariens un Rotary idéal tel que le concevais mais comme il nous est souvent difficile de le vivre en France avec notre mentalité de Gaulois. Combien de fois à l'occasion de nos querelles picrocholines dans nos clubs de Polynésie ai-je pu citer comme exemple la sérénité des réunions de vos clubs et incité mes amis Rotariens de Polynésie à vous rendre visite pour prendre exemple sur ce que devraient être nos clubs. Durant ces trois années j'ai pu dans cet immense territoire du District 9920 découvrir ce qu'est l'oeuvre du Rotary International, la coopération entre les Districts et les Rotary clubs les mieux dotés et ceux les moins avantagés ou affectés par des désastres de toutes sortes. J'ai vu sur le terrain les réalisations du Rotary signalées par les
innombrables plaques rappelant le rôle de tel ou tel District ou club Néo-Zélandais, Australiens ou autres, des innombrables clubs dans le monde qui contribuent aussi à nous aider à renforcer Les Collectivités et à Rapprocher les Continents et les Îles. J'ai pu côtoyer et mieux connaître tous ces Boursiers du Rotary, ces jeunes du Rotary International Youth Exchange ou des Echanges de Groupe d'Etudes, du RYLA ou du ROTAPAC, du Rotaract. J'ai pu voir sur le terrain des réalisations admirables comme le Village de Peter à Lautoka, la clinique de l'oeil de notre ami Geof Amos à Taveuni Island, les adductions d'eau potable mises en place par la Rotary Pacific Water Foundation for Life à Fiji ou l'ingénieuse station de filtration d'eau du Rotary club de SavuSavu, les bibliothèques créées partout en NouvelleZélande, aux Samoa au Fiji, en Polynésie française dans les écoles dont souvent l'informatique et les installations sanitaires sont l'oeuvre de nos Rotary clubs. Assister comme nous l'avons fait à l'hôpital général de Lautoka avec le Président du Rotary international Elu Kalyan Banergee et son épouse Binota à des opérations de reconstruction plastique d'enfants défigurés de naissance ou par accident dans le cadre des campagnes d'INTERPLAST ou comme le fait également ROMAC, est à la fois émouvant et enthousiasmant. L'oeuvre réalisée dans notre District 9920 est extraordinaire et l'esprit dans lequel elle est réalisée est admirable. Je ne peux pas vous dire combien de fois, dans le cadre de mes fonctions de Gouverneur je me suis réellement senti fier d'être Rotarien et plus particulièrement Rotarien du district 9920 et combien de fois j'ai dû réprimer mes larmes face à telle ou telle réalisation extraordinaire ou situation émouvante. Bien évidemment, je ne peux pas citer de façon exhaustive toutes les réalisations du Rotary au sein du District 9920. Les réalisateurs oui puisque ce sont tous les Rotariens du district, chacun à leur manière, soit en donnant leur argent, soi en donnant leur temps, soit en créant les conditions permettant à leurs camarades Rotariens de les réaliser soit en manifestant simplement, d'un geste ou d'une parole leur compassion à ceux qui sont moins avantagés ou dans la détresse. Je veux ici ce matin les en remercier tous en votre nom à tous du fond du coeur. Dans mon speech d'intronisation comme gouverneur l'année dernière, j'avais mis l'accent sur quelques points qui me paraissaient essentiels : l'augmentation des effectifs de nos clubs et surtout leur rajeunissement, l'ouverture aux Nouvelles Générations, le renforcement des coopérations bilatérales entre sisters clubs de Nouvelle-Zélande et des Îles du Pacifique, voire entre clubs des Îles du Pacifique euxmêmes, l'accroissement de notre contribution à La Fondation Rotary. Je ne peux pas dire que nos résultats soient extrêmement positifs en la matière. Malgré la création du Rotary E-club 9920 francophone, des progrès louables réalisés
dans certains club comme Apia qui a doublé son effectif au cours de l'année, d'Otahuhu, de Pohutukawa Coast, de Mangere et j'en oublie, notre District a perdu une quarantaine de Rotariens particulièrement en Polynésie française qui connaît une très grave crise économique et dans certains petits clubs de Fiji ou en Nouvelle Zélande. Le Rotary s'est fixé pour objectif de tenter d'obtenir que tous les clubs atteignent un effectif minimal de 20 Rotariens à l'horizon 2013, nous en sommes bien loin. En matière de rajeunissement, un club comme celui de Suva Peninsula Sunset donne l'exemple avec une moyenne d'âge en dessous de 40 ans. La création de Rotary clubs Nouvelles Générations est une solution brillamment exposée lors de la Conférence de District. Ce n'est pas néanmoins la panacée. Le Rotary club d'Auckland qui a su mener une politique intelligente de recrutement de jeunes membres le démontre avec 25% de son effectif en dessous de 45 ans. L'idéal est de faire en sorte de ne pas laisser naître un fossé intergénérationnel au sein de vos clubs ou de le combler coûte que coûte. Là où les clubs n'arrivent pas à régénérer leur effectif, ils ont le devoir d'essayer de créer un nouveau club avec une assise de jeunes membres sur des bases plus attractives avant de disparaître eux-mêmes. Le comité PR/Membership devrait comprendre en son sein un sous comité expansion chargé d'étudier en commun avec ces clubs les solutions envisageables et de proposer au Gouverneur les créations souhaitables. Cet outil n'existe pas actuellement et j'en ai ressenti le manque durant cette année. Le comité Nouvelles Générations a lui-même été renforcé et rajeuni, il doit pouvoir être pour le gouverneur un auxiliaire précieux en matière de politique d'ouverture et de mise en valeur des Nouvelles générations qui doivent être davantage représentées en son sein. Les Clubs Interact et les Rotaract clubs sont des viviers potentiels pour le Rotary. Nous devons absolument les développer partout où cela est possible. Cette tâche est laissée le plus souvent à la seule initiative des clubs alors que le District devrait mener une politique incitative dans ce sens au travers des Comités PR/Membership/Expansion et Nouvelles Générations. Un nouveau Rotaract club devrait être créé au sein de l'Université du Pacifique à Suva très bientôt. Un Rotaract club similaire pourrait l'être également au sein de l'Université de Polynésie française, la ressource existe. De très nombreux Interacts clubs sont envisageables notamment dans des collèges ou lycées d'enseignement professionnel. Le Rotary de demain sera ce que vous voulez en faire. Je vais à partir de cette semaine regagner mon île de Moorea et partager davantage mon temps entre ma famille qui se regroupe définitivement en France, la Polynésie française où j'essaie de me rendre utile à un pays actuellement totalement déstabilisé et dont la partie la plus défavorisée de la population souffre des conséquences des
crises politique, morale et économique qui le submerge, les livres que j'ai laissé en chantier depuis quelques années pour me consacrer davantage au Rotary. Certains d'entre vous se sont inquiétés de ma future activité rotarienne. Je les rassure tout de suite. Rotarien je suis et je vais retrouver le fondement du Rotary, sa cellule de base : le club. Je ne pourrais bien évidement pas en raison des contraintes géographiques et financières envisager d'être un membre actif et permanent de certains comités du District. Ce serait hypocrite. En revanche j'aimerai servir le district dans le cadre des compétences qui sont les miennes : le développement de l'effectif et de nouveaux clubs particulièrement dans le domaine des Nouvelles Générations. Je suis passionné par l'aventure représenté par les Rotary E-Clubs qui contrairement aux idées reçus sont des clubs très conviviaux et amicaux et dont le domaine de prédilection est l'international. Je m'intéresse également à tout ce qui concerne la mise en place de dispositif durable de potabilisation de l'eau, d'assainissement et d'énergie renouvelable dans des collectivités isolées comme les îles et atolls du Pacifique. Cela devrait me donner l'occasion don de continuer à servir d'une autre manière le District et à continuer à Renforcer les Collectivités et Rapprocher les Continents. Vous tous Rotariens et Dirigeants du District 9920 vous êtes une collectivité extraordinaire de compétence, de dévouement, de compassion et d'amitié. Je suis un des vôtres et je compte bien continuer avec vous mon chemin au sein du Rotary. Je vous remercie du fond du coeur pour tout ce que vous avez réalisé cette année avec l'équipe du district, pour la gentillesse et l'amitié que vous m'avez toujours manifestées.. Je vous reverrai tous avec beaucoup de plaisir et d'amitié. Je n'en doute pas nos routes vont continuer à se croiser.

June, the last month of the Rotary year, the month of Friendship has not been the busiest one by far , apart from a fve-day stay in NewZealand earlier this month to attend a few meetings. One of them was the last District Management Meeting at Thai Garden which gathered all Assistant Governors of New Zealand and their spouses , the Immediate Past District Governor Leanne, the Elected Governor Alan Eyes, Governor Nominee Ron Seeto, the future Governor Nominee 2013-2014 Willard Martin and the incorrigible “geographic” bachelor I will have been throughout the year.
Dernier mois de l'année rotarienne, juin, mois de l'amitié n'aura pas été de loin, le plus chargé. Effectivement hormis un séjour de cinq jours au début du mois pour participer à quelques réunions. C'était le cas de la dernière réunion de management du district au Thaï Garden qui rassemblait avec leurs conjoints l'ensemble des Assistants Gouverneurs de Nouvelle Zélande, l'Immédiate Past Gouverneure de district Leanne, le Gouverneur élu Alan Eyes, le Gouverneur Nominé Ron Seeto, le futur Gouverneur Nominé 2013-2014 Willard Martin et l'incorrigible célibataire géographique que j'aurais été tout au long de l'année.
I took the opportunity to break out champagne, for our last meal together, but also to celebrate the birth of my first grand-son, Gabriel Tamahere Spillmann, born on 19 May in Tahiti. It was about time!
J'en ai profté pour sabler le champagne à la fois pour notre dernier repas en commun mais surtout pour célébrer la naissance de mon 1er petit-fls, Gabriel Tamahere Spillmann né le 19 mai à Tahiti. Il était temps !
This month was devoted to the preparations of Changeover organized in Auckland by my host club, the Rotary Club of Auckland . In this newsletter I would already like to thank all the Rotarians who are involved in organizing this event : especially President Don Bendall, David Cook, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Past President Jim Johnston, who agreed to complete the delicate and essential function of Master of Ceremonies. For a long time , we had already chosen the prestigious salons of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the Mecca of sailing in New Zealand, where the breath of great mana winners of the America'sCup in 1995 and the legendary fgure of Sir Peter Blake are still present . We are lucky to be able to organize our Changeover in such a setting and I hope that many of us will take this opportunity. Of course, I have been staying in Auckland again for a few days now . This allows me both to prepare the Changeover and to have the pleasure to participate in certain clubs Changeover. After RC Auckland and Newmarket, I will attend the Changeovers of RC Papakura and Auckland Harbourside.
Le mois a été consacré surtout à la préparation du Changeover organisé sur place à Auckland par mon club hôte, le Rotary club d'Auckland dont je tiens à remercier déjà dans cette Newsletter l'ensemble des Rotariens qui prennent part à l'organisation de cette événement et principalement Le Président Don Bendall, David Cook, Président du Comité d'organisation, le Past Président Jim Johnston qui a accepté de remplir la fonction délicate et essentielle de Maître de Cérémonie. Nous avons déjà depuis bien longtemps choisi les salons prestigieux du Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, haut lieu de la voile en Nouvelle Zélande où souffe encore le formidable mana des vainqueurs de la Coupe de l'America en 1995 et plane la figure légendaire de Sir Peter Blake. C'est une chance de pouvoir organiser notre Changeover dans un tel cadre et j'espère que nous serons nombreux à profter de cette occasion exceptionnelle. Bien évidemment, je séjourne de nouveau à Auckland en cette fn du mois de juin. Cela me permet tout à la fois, de préparer le Changeover et d'avoir le plaisir de participer aux Changeover de certains clubs. Après ceux des Clubs d'Auckland et de Newmarket je participerai ainsi à ceux de Papakura et Auckland Harbourside.
Is it not the best way to prepare the District Changeover? Thus , my year of governorship will end with a fourish and I am infnitely grateful to all of you to have accepted my differences, the disability of my bad hearing, my English stammering and lack of presence as part of your projects . You gave me an extraordinary experience in an incomparable District . I hope to be able to give back to Rotary International and District 9920 a lot of what I received in order to continue: "Building Communities, Bridging Continents"
N'est-ce pas le meilleur moyen de préparer le Changeover du District ? Mon année de gouvernorat se terminera ainsi en beauté et je vous suis tous infniment reconnaissant de m'avoir accepté avec mes différences, l'handicap de ma mauvaise audition, de mon anglais balbutiant, de ma présence insuffisante dans le cadre de vos activités. Vous m'avez fait vivre une expérience extraordinaire dans un District incomparable. J'espère bien pouvoir rendre au District et au Rotary International beaucoup de ce que j'ai reçu de façon à continuer de "Renforcer les Collectivités- Rapprocher les Continents"

TRF Chair Carl-Wilem Stenhammar recently reaffirmed 2 cornerstones of Rotary : FELLOWSHIP & FRIENDSHIP. I would also add FUN. Opportunities for the 3 F’s are possible through regular club meetings, committee meetings, District Conferences & International Conventions. In addition to face to face contact we can now add the New Generations world of the internet and the rise of E-Clubs. All these are venues where TRF programs can be fostered and brokered . Individual Rotarians and clubs are encouraged to appropritae all or some of these to increase world peace and understanding through our common FELLOWSHIP. My recent experience of our District Conference in Tahiti reinforced the importance of FELLOWSHIP as an opportunity for service. Coupled with Sharon and my role as chaperone to 6 Rotary Internatonal Youth Exchange students the week during and post Conference emphatically endorsed DG Nicolas Spillmann’s conference theme that New Generations is the Future of Rotary International… Building Communities-Bridging Continents.

La Jolla New Generations Rotary Club in San Diego California is a club focussed on recruiting young business professionals to Rotary. The average age of the club is about 35. Members that come to La Jolla New Generations want to do hands on service projects while having the opportunity to network with other business professionals. Since it’s inception, the club has had a strong focus on fellowship. The club throws parties, puts on social service projects, supports the arts and plans interesting activities for members spend time together. Membership increases when members are having fun and enjoying their time together. Members attend most district events and are able to be in fellowship with Rotarians from all over San Diego. This helps members to stay connected to Rotary and with the greater cause of Service Above Self.!!
