As the curtain draws down on 2024, we reminisce and reflect on magical milestones that culminated in Roshgold celebrating forty years of investing, community building and empowerment at this year's annual meeting
It has been a commendable journey Forty years of accountability, consistently presenting Annual Reports and paying out returns to shareholders We thank our founding fathers for inculcating and adopting values entrenched in Roshgold's DNA.
The journey into the unknown future has begun, and despite a fun annual meet, many worthwhile discussions and debates took cognizance of the challenges facing Roshgold and its unique community. The short discussion on our journey "Back to the Future", Chairman Ebrahim Sujee's futuristic presentation and Ahmed Lambat's reflection on the solidity of the group's financial foundation and moat helped us take off into the next era The keynote speaker cemented this with the necessary booster of discussing and motivating technology as the platform for leveraging our future growth
It is impossible to acquaint ourselves with every member of our growing Roshgoldold shareholder base. It was, again, a great experience meeting and making acquaintances with a new generation of shareholders. It is always a pleasure to welcome shareholders from Durban, Middelburg, Richards Bay or Cape Town. We commend these shareholders for making the memorable trip and being present at this commemorative get-together. We have posted many photographs of the people at the meeting.
The youth is our future, and the response from the older generation was good to invest in the youngsters in their families A group of township ladies formed an investment club and, putting monies away, were drawn as winners in the 40th Anniversary Krugerrand competition What a joy to read their story in this issue It is as easy as signing a debit order or investing monies received as gifts for birthdays or other occasions. We are laying the foundation for their financial literacy and development. Just look at the Roshgold Kidz Club articles in this issue. We owe it to the future!

On Sunday, 24th November 2024, Roshgold marked a significant milestone our 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) While an AGM is traditionally defined as a formal gathering to present a company’s financial performance and strategic outlook, Roshgold’s annual meets, elevate the experience, blending professionalism with a touch of warmth and community spirit. An inspirational get together!
Make no mistake this is an AGM in every sense. We take pride in sharing business updates, financial insights and strategic insights from talented keynote speakers. Add a spicy dose of fun and food helps entertain many different stakeholders
However, at Roshgold, we believe that an AGM should not only serve as a reporting exercise but also as a platform to inspire, connect and build trust with our shareholders.

In an address nostalgic with reflection, gratitude and forward-looking optimism, Ebrahim Sujee, Chairman of Roshgold, addressed a packed venue of shareholders and guests His wonderful story captured the essence of Roshgold’s remarkable journey, its steadfast commitment to its shareholders, and its bold aspirations for the future.

Mr Sujee said, reflecting on the organization’s origins Over four decades, Roshgold has grown into a bastion of financial strength, prudence and Shariahcompliant integrity. From humble beginnings, it has navigated seismic economic shifts and global challenges, emerging resilient and steadfast.
Paying homage to the founders and past leaders, Mr Sujee emphasized, “We stand on the shoulders of giants Their wisdom and sacrifices are the foundation of Roshgold’s success today ” He also commended the efforts of past and present board members, management and staff who have remained dedicated to serving the interests of shareholders.
Mr Sujee shared key principles that have guided Roshgold’s success: prudent investment decisions, rigorous cash flow management, and unwavering integrity.

He emphasized the group’s focus on creating long-term value for its shareholders, ensuring sustainability, a growing revenue stream and growth across generations

On a bright Sunday morning, Zunaid Bulbulia, a distinguished business leader and technology strategist, took the center stage to deliver a keynote address that resonated deeply with the Roshgold community With his characteristic humor and humility, Zunaid sports a mountain of experience, with over thirty years in telecommunications. He held key roles, including CEO of MTN South Africa.
A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO ROSHNEE
Zunaid began his speech by sharing heartfelt memories of his ties to Roshnee, a community that shaped his childhood. With fond anecdotes, he recalled how the threat of being sent to reform school transformed into the idea of being sent to Roshnee a testament to the area’s endearing place in his family’s narrative Zunaid extended his gratitude for the collective efforts that have enriched his upbringing and Roshnee’s legacy.
THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY
Drawing from decades of experience in the tech industry, Zunaid explored how mobile technology has revolutionized the world since MTN's inception in 1994 He marveled at the evolution of cell phones, whose modern capabilities outstrip those of the computers used during the moon landing. With mobile device advances in memory, photography and processing power, cell phones have become essential gateways to the internet and commerce.
He emphasized the need for businesses to embrace digitization, as the internet is now the primary marketplace for many types of business interaction For those lagging behind, Zunaid offered reassurance: adopting technology later often means benefiting from reduced costs and fewer bugs However, he cautioned against rushing into investments without a clear understanding of their purpose, reminding business owners that technology cannot fix foundational issues.

Attending Roshgold's 40th anniversary was an unforgettable experience for the Vhasekane Ladies Club. The biggest highlight for them was winning the coveted Kruger Coin prize.
The moment they were announced as the winners was surreal Overwhelmed with joy and surprise, the news took a few moments to sink in “It felt like a dream, an incredible feeling, and we felt so grateful and honored to have been the winners,

Muhammed Asfahani Sather was announced as the Roshgold winner of a one-ounce Kruger coin Muhammed, who grew up in Roshnee and now resides in Bramley Johannesburg with his family. He operates his own company specializing in Data Analytics and Audit Support
His reaction to winning was one of disbelief and excitement, as at the time of the live announcement, he was not present at the Roshgold AGM When his uncle Mr Kassim, and Riaz Asmal called to inform him of his win, he thought it was a prank. A quick call to Roshgold confirmed the thrilling news, leaving Muhammed and his family overjoyed "I honestly thought they were pranking me!" he recalls "I called up Roshgold expecting them to say they had no idea who I was, but instead they congratulated me."
A shareholder since 2021, Muhammed transferred to Roshgold to maintain his connection after the closure of Roshmed “This win will be my first big experience with Roshgold. However, with Roshmed, they were always kind and helpful and always covered and supported us with hospital admin and related challenges The Roshmed team really took the stress away over the years when our kids were born.”

There was a buzz as the meeting veered to a lighter note, with the introduction of a Roshgold Trivia Quiz It was a fun, engaging activity that had attendees buzzing in anticipation with excitement. Hosted by Roshgold’s very own, dynamic duo Mohammed Dadoo and Shaakira Rahiman, the trivia game blended entertainment and education, quizzing participants on a journey through Roshgold’s inspiring history, impactful projects and notable milestones.
From its founding in 1984 to its current status with assets at nearly R600 million, the trivia questions highlighted the incredible achievements of Roshgold over its fourty-year legacy. The quiz format ensured every participant had a chance to compete in real-time via a digital app, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere

Attending the "Padel for a Purpose" charity fund-raising tournament as part of the Roshgold Kidz Club Team was an experience I'll never forget Hosted by Padel Grail Roshnee Padel Inyata in support of fundraising efforts for the Roshnee Feeding Scheme, this event was a perfect blend of competition, community and compassion
The energy was palpable from the moment the Roshgold Team set-up Competitors included both seasoned players and enthusiastic newcomers, each player geared up for an exciting weekend of padel The friendly banter and competitive spirit on the courts was infectious, making every match a thrill to watch. Families and friends gathered around supporting their teams as the air was filled with excitement, anticipation and laughter and the tantalizing aroma of delicious food from various stalls wafted invitingly through the air
The Roshgold Kidz Club Tent was strategically pitched directly opposite the courts We offered and encouraged hands-on arts and crafts activities. The children enjoyed making padel-themed key rings This activity was done in conjunction with a local art company, Art Escape. The little ones also partook in our padel coloring-in sheets with much glee and delight It was a pleasure for the Roshgold Team to sit at the children's little tables and support the kiddos and work hand-in-hand with them to have fun, creating memorable moments and smiles all around
Our Kidz Club mascot, Zahab also made a special appearance spurring on the younger players and keeping the atmosphere fun and lively.
The true magic of the day was in its purpose. Every paddle swing and every cheer from the sidelines contributed to an incredible cause: supporting the Roshnee Feeding Scheme. This amazing organization provides over 8,500 meals daily to those in need: along with food hampers, clothing and essential items This cause aims at restoring the dignity and hope to countless lives
The sense of community could be felt and was heartwarming. The event raised muchneeded funds for the Roshnee Feeding Scheme, ensuring that their vital work can continue The organisers’ and sponsors’ commitment to making this an annual event was inspiring, and I can't wait to see how it grows and impacts even more lives in the future.

These young entrepreneurs have embarked on their first business ventures with enthusiasm, creativity and valuable lessons learned along the way Join us in exploring their entrepreneurial journeys.
Aasim Ashraff: The Pencil Prodigy
My name is Aasim Ashraff I'm 12 years old I started my business journey in grade four at my old school, and now I’m in grade five My first venture was selling NS clutch pencils I would buy packs of three for R20 and sell each pencil for R30. I was thrilled to sell almost every day Through this experience I learnt a lot, especially about dealing with different types of customers Some knew exactly what they wanted, while others took their time deciding, often causing delays. I learned the importance of patience and good communication, and I realized that not everyone thinks the same way. In the future, I aspire to start a business, though I’m still figuring out what type it will be
Muhammad Hafs Nana: The Sweet Mix Maestro
My name is Muhammad Hafs Nana I am 12 years old and I attend An Nawawi Academy My cousins and I recently set up a stall at the Dadaville Gardens Pre-Primary School's awards event at in Roshnee Inspired by our school's market day, where my cousin sold my mother’s tasty and zesty sweet mixes, we decided to start our own small business The event was a success, thanks to good weather and enthusiastic visitors. One of the biggest lessons I learned was the importance of patience, as customers will eventually come to your stall. Our parents were incredibly supportive, providing encouragement and financial assistance Our goal is to grow our venture into a well-known brand that delights sweet-tooth cravings everywhere. Our advice to fellow young entrepreneurs “always be prepared and never give up ”
Amaan Ashraff: The Budding Businessman
Slmz, my name is Amaan Ashraff and I'm 14 years old. I am in grade seven and my hobbies include grappling, soccer, cricket and business I recently attended the Deen Team Youth Money Workshop, where I learned a lot about business from the presenters This, along with my EMS market day, inspired me to start my own business. I had a great experience running a stall outside the Dadaville Gardens concert, and I look forward to doing it again A key lesson I’ve learnt is to always be kind and patient with customers Our business strengths include having solid business ideas and strong family support. However, we don’t have enough experience in running a stall business. Our goal is to gather new ideas and grow our business into a major brand Remember, things may not always go as planned, but never give up and always remember that Allah is with you.
