MONTHLY HEALTH REFOCUSFLU PREVENTION TIPS

These are the general rules of hygiene for the prevention or reduction of influenza infection (flu).

Cough Hygiene

Good cough hygiene includes:

• Cough with averted face.

• Cough with hand to mouth, with a paper �ssue.

• Use �ssue paper only once and throw it away in the garbage.

• Wash hands frequently with soap and water or apply hand sani�zer to your hands.

• Coughing/ sneezing into the elbow, which prevents droplets on the hands.

Hand hygiene

Good hand hygiene includes:

• Disinfect hands with hand sani�zer: A�er coming into contact with body fluids (mucus, sputum); A�er contact with a sick colleague or pa�ent A�er deposi�ng contaminated �ssue.

• If hands are visibly soiled, wash hands with soap and water. Prior to disinfec�on with hand sani�zer dry the hands first thoroughly (dry with a paper towel) and only then use the hand disinfectant.

General hygiene

• Wash your hands frequently, especially a�er sneezing / coughing and contact with body fluids (snot, spit). If hands are not visibly soiled, you can only use hand sani�zer.

• Use your own soap and hand sani�zer.

• Waste such as handkerchiefs, gloves, and mouth-nose masks are placed in a sealed plas�c garbage bag. It can go with regular garbage collec�on.

• Try not to cough and sneeze in front of other people. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a disposable handkerchief. Use each handkerchief only once. Throw it away immediately a�er use. Then wash your hands and rub them with hand alcohol.

• A good alterna�ve is coughing/ sneezing into the elbow cavity. It prevents your hands become full of virus par�cles.
