MISSING LINK

Term 4 2024

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Term 4 Principal’s Assembly Address

Congratulations on receiving your reports and recognition at this assembly today and a very special recognition to Year 10 who are receiving their Records of School Achievement. Congratulations to Year 9 who a completing their junior years and will start in the senior school next year. Special congratulations to Year 8 who have the highest GPA average in the school. And a special congratulations to Year 7 who have become a team and to the Year 7 Ambassadors for providing great leadership.

I hope when you read your reports and think about what you wrote about as your strengths and progress during both personalised learning and in evaluating your goals in each subject you can see your growth and academic improvement.

On Tuesday 10 December, our executive staff looked at the grades and grade point averages for every year group and we had a moment of pride as we looked at what we can do together.

And that is what I want to speak about today. On 14 December, 15 principals from all the schools in the Eastern Creek Network came to Rooty Hill and presented on the highlights of their year. I was one of them and I was not sure what to say or to include in the slide we were asked to provide. (The slide will be included in my Missing Link report for this term).

AfterspeakingwithMsMattimoreandMs Vuki,Idecidedtospeakthroughtheschool motto PERSIST and its 7 core values. Each year we choose one focus value. In 2024 we chose Teamwork and Leadership – because we believe nobody succeeds alone, nobody takes the credit on their own. We are, after all, #TeamRooty Hill and when you study here, teach here, administer here and work here, you join our team.

Outside the school, it has been a tough year. We did not get funding from the federal government, we did not get our asset projects, and many of the proposed HSC NESA syllabuses for 2026 are not fit for purpose.

We had to work together to do our best. I want to acknowledge some teams whose leadership and teamwork made sure our school culture, values and purposes were delivered.

• The head teachers and teachers made sure students had continuity of learning by just doing more and doing it better when we had 9 permanent and 8 temporary staffing vacancies. We are excited that we have new teachers appointed this term and more will come in 2025.

• In the subjects you studied and in wellbeing programs, we were able to provide personalised, expansiveandculturallyinclusivelearning. Classteams andyear-basedteamscompletedabigprogram ofacademic,co-curricular and extra-curricular tasks. This is a busy school built on student teams working with each other and the staff.

• Student data analyst teams used data and evidence to analyse, reflect, plan and implement better practice. Their work and presentations showed us that students understand what it will take to work together to do well.

• The deputy principals, Ms Munzenberger, Ms Andrews, the year advisers and the learning support staff led wellbeing, attendance and learning support teams in each year group to give every student the opportunity to do his or her best. For some students it was easy and for others it was harder - but for all students the “teams” you were part of mattered.

• The SAMs and admin teams delivered a sophisticatedoperationalplanandledthesuccessful DoE audit.

• The Learning Neighbourhood teams delivered 37 different events connecting the five schools and students from this school. The ambassador teams, peer support teams, the senior leaders, SALSA teams and the Year 9 “Belonging Team” increased our connections.

It will be a big decision to choose our Team of the Year for 2024. So, while today is about your individual progress and success, our year has also been about our teams and today we will recognise a very particular academic team – the students who, in 2024 received a Grade Point Average over 4.0.

I am very excited to introduce this academic award in 2024 and then to recognise our best academic performers (along with our other awards) at the Excellence Assembly on 13 February2025 So,congratulationsonyoursuccessthisyear and well done to all our teams.

Year 11 RoSA Presentation Assembly

Deputy Principal’s Address

Good morning Year 12, teachers and parents. Today marks a very important milestone - the completion of the preliminary HSC and the award of your RoSA grades. Year 11 gives you a taste of what to expect in the HSC. I’m sure you have already noticed and felt the pressure of increased rigour in assessment tasks and examinations. You may have also noticed increased monitoring of your attendance, completion of tasks, hand in of assessments and our higher expectations of you as a senior student.

NESA (NSW Education standards Authority) expects us to closely supervise the HSC. The Principal must ensure that the student has:

• Followed the course developed or endorsed by NESA and attended 90% of lessons.

• Applied themselves with diligence, sustained effort and quality behaviour to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course by the school.

• Achieved some or all of the course outcomes and completed the required assessment tasks.

That’s because the HSC is very high stakes. We don’t just give out the HSC and say thanks for turning up sometimes and giving it a go. To do that would devalue the HSC and all those students who worked consistently hard for 6 years would feel hard done by.

To achieve your HSC is a great accomplishment. It is testament to your determination, resilience and grit. It’s a sense of pride in getting the job done. Making your family proud of the investment they have made in you. It’s about setting yourself up for the future. When I shake your hand on this very stage in 3 and a half terms time, I want you to feel that sense of accomplishment.

I want you to feel proud and I want you to know that it means something. We know it’s hardand there will betimes when you might think of giving up but you have to remind yourself of how far you have come. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. We are all here to support you.

If thingsget tough, talk to us. Watchout for yourfriends and support each other. The HSC is within your grasp. Don’t let go!

Congratulations Year 12.

Tell Them From Me Presentation

On behalf of my Tell Them From Me Analyst team, we worked as a team on analysing data from the survey and seeing how we could make the school a better place, both inside and outside the classroom. Over a few sessions from Term 3 to Term 4, we looked at our grades' responses and what theoverall impact was. Wethenpresentedourfindings

to the Head Teachers, Deputy Principal’s and the Principal. At times it was stressful presenting in front of them but in the end we managed to satisfy the people viewing our presentation. I would like to thank the team who made this presentation possible.

Swim School

Written by Omar Moubayed Swim school occurred over Week 3, Week 5 and Week 9 at the Mt Druitt Swimming Pools. Swim school was so fun but challenging because we were placed in groups and were pushed to our limits. We were able to learn new skills and prepare for our trip to Raging Waters. During the theory sessions, we learned about water safety and how to be safe in and out of the water. This helped us be better prepared in the water. Everyone was so joyful to hop in the water and splash about.

Personalised Learning Conversations

Written by Eshaal Fatima

Personalised Learning Conversations was about reflecting onyourselfthroughout yourfirstyearinhighschool.During this session, we were able to see your results throughout the year and reflect on if your effort matched your results. We alsolookedat ourproudestmoments, ourstrengthsandwhat we learned from our experiences in 2024. This showed how everyone could improve in the future, but also how much they achieved in Year 7 2024. The PERSIST values everyone demonstrated were participation and enthusiasm, plus creativity in our answers.

MADD Night

Written by Mikaela Ner

Aspart oftheMADDNightevent, studentsacrossall grades had the opportunity to go up on stage and perform.

The theme for this year was ‘At the Movies’, so all performances had to be from a movie. The song “Sweet Home Alabama” was performed by the 7B Music class. 7G also performed "I'm a Believer” and 7F performed “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”.

We had to play the guitar, keyboard, djembe, electric guitar, drums and vocals. There were also drama performances and dance performances too. There was barbecue and artwork displayed around the hall from the many talented students in the school. It was fun, exciting, entertaining, and joyful.

Haka Warrior

Written by Amy Rose Anae

Haka Warriors practiced for many weeks, twice a week for our upcoming competition at Olympic Park. During our practice sessions, we learned teamwork and determination and because of this, we felt more connected to our culture. The highlight of Haka Warriors was being able to perform in front of everyone and being proud, despite being scared

and nervous. We would like to thank, in particular, the PCYC representatives and Ms. Dowling.

Raging Waters

As part of our end-of-year excursion, we went on an excursion to Raging Waters. It was a very fun experience that we got to be a part of, with awesome water rides and pools. It was so fun being able to celebrate our first year of high school and all of our achievements with our whole grade. It was a fantastic way to end the year and create memories with our friends and our teachers before the summer holidays.

LOTE

Written by Lilly Smith

My learning experience in Semester 2 for language was so great that I am sad it is over. I really enjoyed doing the chopstick lessons previously, as it was a fun new skill. I enjoyed learning why they use chopsticks and that they are really important in Chinese culture.

In the future, I would probably use my knowledge I got in language to introduce myself to others of that background. I wouldconsidercontinuinglanguageinYear9asanelective, as I really liked learning about other people's culture, beliefs and backgrounds.

The RIOT Workshops were a fun and social event where Year 8 students learned effective ways to resolve disagreements andconflictsinfriendshipsandrelationships. These scenarios were demonstrated through a live roleplay performance by senior leaders, making the experience engaging and relatable.

A memorable part of the training was partnering up and standing opposite each other while Mr. Crosilla called out prompts like, “Stand on the white line if you have a pet.” This activity encouraged us to be open and share personal aspects of our lives.

A special thanks to the RIOT team and senior leaders for organizing such a valuable and enjoyable learning experience.

Their leadership extended to organising The Belonging Night, where students had fun in a range of activities, including karaoke, bracelet making and writing letters to include in their time capsule. Assisting with the Year 8 Origin program, they demonstrated their commitment to building connections across year groups and supporting younger peers.
