PRINCIPAL’S REPORT We have had a very positive and exciting start to this year at RHHS. Teachers have reported that this was • the best start to a school year that they • could remember and the way students and their families have adopted the • BYOD approach used at the school stands out as a highlight. More than 50% of Year 7 students have their own device and the numbers are growing in other years.

After 3 years of hard saving by the • school, the School Council authorised the school to cover the costs of subject contributions, exercise books and equipment for every student that brought a device to school. • This has helped the program get off to a great start and there is a more detailed report later in ML. Other highlights for the school this term include: • The publication of the 2014 Annual School Report reflecting a very successful year that is a platform for further improvement • The publication of over 400 pages of learning data from last year showing we had achieved our big target in

2014 of increasing growth of student learning to within one mark of the state average. An outstanding Excellence Assembly The election of the new P&C executive (see article below). Record levels of participation at the swimming and athletic carnivals, in sporting teams and at Harmony Day Successful excursions and the launch of programs for debating, the arts, drama, mock trial and Confucius Classroom. Celebrating Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day and Harmony Day with great activities organised by the SRC. Special thanks to Ms Reyes for her leadership of the Harmony Day committee. The school receiving professional recognition for its leadership as a Social Ventures Powerhouse School and for our partnerships with Sydney University, Blacktown City Council, the Rooty Hill RSL and AFL NSW (Indigenous Academy program). The selection of Noelene Callaghan as one of two Microsoft Expert Educators from Australia to represent Australia in the USA in April.
