Run to Gisborne Story: Andrew Aldons Photos: Karen Bentley Sunday 5th December
After the usual 2021 postponements/ rescheduling due to you-know-what we finally met at McDonalds Mill Park on a brisk December Sunday morning. Around 16 mid-mounted cars across all 4 generations were lined up for the Mcpatrons to take in as they queued for their drive through goodies. It was my first time seeing the Miami blue 718s (one S and one GTS) in person and they dazzled in the morning light. Our Register captain Ken had us all gather ‘round for the briefing and then we were off. And what a cracking set of roads we had in front of us! This was a really good drive – and while we went off-route pretty early due to not paying enough attention to the nav., we (eventually) ended up finding our destination after a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half. The official route, which we spent at least some of our time on was an awesome blend of slow corners and faster open sections, much of which were ‘back’ roads with little traffic. Kudos to Ken for such a wellplanned route. We arrived at the golf club (and parked as far as we could away from the hook/slicers). After a very pleasant lunch, we left to return to Melbourne and I was lucky enough to follow one of the Miami blue 718s back along the official route. Once again, there was very little traffic to 58

contend with and we were able to link our turns and otherwise enjoy our cars on a beautiful sunny afternoon. This was my first run with the club and despite failing the nav. test (and also failing the never volunteer to write the story test), it was a pretty awesome day. Thanks to all involved and Merry Christmas.
