Celebrating 50 Years of Porsche Passion

Horizontally Opposed

Welcome to the second issue of Porsche Parade for 2025

As the editor, it’s both a privilege and a pleasure to reflect on what has been a truly vibrant and rewarding few months for Porsche Club Victoria.

We are in the midst of a golden era of engagement and momentum. From the President’s desk, we’re reminded how the Club continues to flourish with new initiatives, improved tools like Tourboss, and record-breaking membership growth. It’s clear that the strategic focus on quality events and strong sponsorship has not only enriched the member experience but has also allowed for a tangible reduction in membership fees—a rare and welcome feat.

cliffside drives to camaraderie-filled dinners and the rare thrill of lapping The Bend. Clyde White’s recap of recent and upcoming events also reminds us how deeply embedded connection and joy are in the heart of our club culture, whether it’s over breakfast, a glass of wine, or a spirited Go Kart challenge.

Meanwhile, from pit lane, our Competition Director Bill Toohey brings to life the energy and intensity of our motorsport calendar. The Bend, now a marquee event, shows how Porsche passion transcends the track surface— it’s about speed, yes, but also mateship and shared stories, like those from Rusty French that left a lasting impression on attendees. With sprints, motorkhanas, and track days continuing throughout the year, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—at any skill level.

Presidents Report

Greetings Everyone,

It is pleasing when looking back at the past couple of months, that we continue to grow both the number and variety of events for members. Two such events that have occurred since our last magazine were the PCV Grand Tour to South Australia from 1st – 7th April, organised by Tour Supremo - Alison Belot, and ably assisted by Alan Hines. By all accounts the tour was a resounding success, and Alison’s Report is featured later in the magazine.

Following on from this, another excellent event that we had was the Joint PCV & MSCA Track Event at the Bend in South Australia over the Anzac Day Long weekend of 26th-27th April. Vicki and I along with 60 other Porsche Club Members attended this weekend, with the highlights being two days of adrenalin filled excitement on the Bend Circuit, along with a dinner on the Saturday night which saw 186 competitors, organisers and guests enjoy a magnificent three course meal, while also hearing my interview with our Special Guest Rusty French.

financial year has been reduced by $10.00. This positive adjustment has been made possible by stronger than expected membership growth (setting a new club record), along with an increase in event sponsorship and interest income. Additionally, members can look forward to both complimentary and subsidised benefits as part of our upcoming 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Along with your Membership Renewal you will have seen that we have now gone digital, with the introduction of PCV’s New Digital Membership Card which you can now download to your smartphone wallet. This now means no more forgotten cards, when accessing Member Benefit Discounts with suppliers, or when trying to show your membership status at events.

Our rollout of Tourboss continues with this new navigation tool now being used on all our social drive events. Current feedback from members is that this an excellent new platform and is a substantial improvement on Google. Our thanks once again to fellow club member, and Early 911 Register Captain – Marcus Hancock and his MJH Group, who have very generously sponsored our Tourboss subscription.

Attendances at our many Register Runs continue to grow, and don’t forget, all club members are welcome to attend any of our Register runs regardless of whether your Porsche is of the same type or model for which the run is being organised.

By now you will have received your 2025-26 Membership Renewal and seen that your committee were delighted to announce that the primary membership fee for the 2025/2026

Speaking of Member Benefits, we currently have four offers to members, a 15% Discount on Porsche Track Experience, and a 10% Discount on Authorised Porsche Dealer Service & Spare Parts, which are detailed in each issue of Porsche Parade and on the Club Website. Please remember though, to redeem any of these discounts, you MUST be able to show your new PCV Digital Membership Card stored in the Wallet of your smartphone at the time of booking. We would ask that you show your card when making your booking and NOT at vehicle pickup, as this would require the service advisor to re-run a prepared invoice to apply the discount after the fact.

The first of our Anniversary Events is now only weeks away, and this is surely one not to miss. Our 50th Anniversary Club Night is to be held on Tuesday 26th August, at Lorbek Luxury Cars (exactly 50 years to the day from our first Club Night held in the Rally Room of the Light Car Club of Australia on Tue 26th August 1975). Join fellow members for a relaxed night of socialising, music, entertainment and great food, and hear from Founding Committee Members, Michael Stillwell, Kerry Reynolds and Garnet Luckins on how our club began.

Social Reflections

Your Social Committee has been keeping on its toes for the past quarter, organising and hosting a series of great events.

The Grand Tour well and truly lived up to its name “Grand”. From the very first dinner at The Barn, in Mount Gambier, was great, attended with much chatter, catching up with members and in anticipation of the tour to follow.

I had the pleasure of attending and experiencing the tour, with wonderfully planned routes, vistas particularly driving along the Murray with steep cliffs and crossing on a ferry, fellowship, meals and yes wines. Members were in raptures at being given the opportunity to drive around the Bend track. Other than the first night, we spent two and three nights at each stay, which provided for a relaxed approach and a perfect mix between runs and breaks.

Covid was unfortunately a dark cloud over the previous tour and on this occasion one of our members on the last day tested positive, but no other members tested positive, before the tour came to a conclusion.

The two members, that need to be lauded, are Alison Belot and Allan Hines for a magnificent Tour. The effort and commitment required to organise the tour is immense. At their own cost and time, they plan and methodically experience the entire tour, for the benefit of the Club and members. Thank you, Alison and Allan.

The Club Morning, which I unfortunately was unable to attend, because I extended my stay in South Australia. My appreciation to Geoff Mould

and club members helping out on the day. The feedback on our event survey was excellent. It appears Club Morning suits our members on several levels, family members attending, displaying and viewing their prized Porsche, enjoying a great breakfast and coffee and yet having the Sunday to indulge in other activities.

Geoff Mould once again organised a marvellous Autumn Run to Cleveland Estate Winery. The lunch, wines and company of our members was great, albeit a venue that was quite noisy, probably due to excited members talk and laughter.

The Go Kart Challenge was enjoyed by all attendees, thanks to our organiser Deb Weinbach. The event brings out the fun competitive nature of our members, which results in a great night. Similarly, the mid-week runs have keen following and Natalie Griss organised another good run to Mount Macedon Winery.

I encourage members to please save the following dates in their diaries, because they will be special events. Club Night August 26, celebrating our club 50 year anniversary. The first Club Night was held 50 years ago, on the same date. The other being our Annual

Dinner Dance to be held on November 29. The planning commenced six months ago and is exhibiting characteristics of an exciting night. Entertainers and band have been booked, with details to be announced in the near future.

I would like pass on my sincere thanks to our Social Committee

for all their efforts and our members that take the time and opportunity to pass on their appreciation to our organisers.

Please feel free to contact me with any ideas for events, or if you would like to contribute and join our Social Committee.

From Pit Lane

Hi everyone,

Since I last wrote we have held our traditional Regularity at Sandown, a two-day event at The Bend and then back to Sandown for a sprint.

The Bend, co-hosted with the Marque Sport Car Association of Victoria (MSCA) is becoming the highlight of our track calendar. The event is, to my knowledge, the biggest club level motorsport event in Australia. It offers two days at what many would say is the best track for club level motorsport in Australia as well as the opportunity for formal and informal dinners with our fellow competitors. The highlight of the formal dinner was an enthralling Q&A discussion with Russel Sturzaker interviewing Rusty French, exploring Rusty’s inspiring journey through motorsport both in Australia and internationally.

As I write we are days away from a trip to Winton – a fantastic & technically challenging circuit. Thereafter we have:

• A motorkhana at Lang Lang Proving Ground on 3 August,

• A sprint at Broadford on 24 August, and

• A sprint at Phillip Island on 20 September.

In other upcoming events, we are planning another “Come to Track” on-line information webinar in late July for those members who might be interested in getting a first-hand appreciation of what our Porsches are like at speed. Our Porsches are truly great cars on the road but really show their exhilarating full capability on track. As your read the other track articles in this edition you will see reference to lap times and lap records – and many of our regular driver are highly competitive. But what is also true is that many of us keep coming back just for the experience of our wonderful Porsche in their natural environment. And just as importantly, what sometimes goes unsaid is that the friendship and camaraderie enjoyed based on our shared interest in Porsches is as important to many of us as lap times.

We are thankful for the generous support of a sponsor for most of our track events this calendar year, which has enabled the Club to hold fees consistent with those of last year (despite rising costs) and indeed on a few occasions to slightly lower entry fees.

Believe it or not, by the time you read this, the Track Committee will be starting to plan the track programme for 2026 – so if you have any feedback, please provide that to any of the members of the Track Committee or to motorsport @pcv.com.au.

On behalf of all the track participants, our thanks go out to the officials, marshals and flaggies whose sterling work allows us to enjoy our wonderful cars in their natural environment. A special thanks to those volunteers that made the trip to The Bend – we know the huge commitment on your part, but one that is a crucial contributor to the success of the event.

THE BEND

26th & 27th April 2025

There’s something truly special about motorsport weekends — and our recent sprint event at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia was no exception.

Members from the Porsche Club of Victoria and MSCA came together for two exhilarating days of competition, with the weather gods smiling down on us. We were blessed with two spectacular days of sunshine, with only a brief, refreshing shower on Sunday that barely touched the vibrant spirit of the event.

From the moment trailers were unloaded and cars began lining the paddock, you could feel it — the camaraderie, the excitement, the familiar buzz of old friends reuniting and new friendships being formed over cups of coffee and shared tools. Motorsport, at its heart, has always been about more than just speed — it’s about community, and this weekend was a perfect example of that.

Saturday evening gave us another highlight to remember, as we gathered for a wonderful dinner featuring a very special guest: the great Rusty French. Rusty generously shared stories and insights from his incredible career, leaving

us inspired with videos and photographs that captured the essence of a true racing legend. We are deeply grateful to Rusty for taking the time to join us and for giving everyone a glimpse into the passion and perseverance that define a lifetime in motorsport.

The track itself is exhilarating, challenging and a true joy once you come to grips with it. The International Circuit - 4.95 km, 18 turns, that “never ending right hander” that I know I could take faster, but….

Small group sessions with Dean Canto sharing his tips on how to circulate The Bend quickly and without incident helped us fine tune our lap times. His deep knowledge from his long career in high end motorsport and over 300 laps of The Bend showed through.

A huge thanks to Famous Insurance for supporting this event.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers, officials, and committee members. Special thanks to the 21 volunteers from both MSCA & PCV who made the trip and who’s

professionalism and supportive approach allowed us drivers to enjoy this great weekend. Their hard work, energy, and dedication are the engine behind every successful event, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them for creating such a seamless and memorable weekend.

Congratulations to all our class winners and a special shoutout to those who broke new track records — a testament to the evolving talent and determination within our club:

• Jamie Lovett

• Richard Thompson

• Stefan Wojciechowski

• Matt Burton

• Grant Rule

• Scott Pittard

• Danny Loypur

Thank you once again to everyone who made the journey, who turned a key, who helped a friend tighten a bolt, and who cheered from the sidelines. The Bend reminded us all why we love this sport: the thrill of competition, the joy of connection, and the memories that will stay with us long after the engines fall silent. n

Autumn Run to Cleveland Estate Winery

The day dawned to a stunning sunrise and clear skies. 75 of us gathered at Porsche Centre Doncaster at 9.15am for a coffee and chat. What a perfect starting point, the cars filled the rear car park - a smorgasbord of Porsches, all styles and colours.

Clyde White welcomed us all and thanked Flavio General Manager and Natalie Juriansz Marketing Manager from Porsche Centre Doncaster in appreciation for hosting our club and their hospitality, for making available their show room, and the provision of coffee and hot drinks, which was greatly appreciated by our members.

Clyde invited Flavio to speak. Flavio welcomed all drivers but unfortunately due to time restraints couldn’t join

us on the run. He thanked us all as ambassadors of the Porsche brand.

Geoff Mould then thanked the photographer for the day, Nick Yates and Lee Harding preparing the text for the Club Magazine. Geoff also welcomed the new members being Jeff McLachlan, John and Lee Hartman.

Thanks, were also given to MJH Group for providing and sponsoring the “TourBoss” Navigation Application for our club. It seemed that most drivers had downloaded the app to assist in navigating our way to lunch today (Run Notes were also available).

Given the size of the group our destination was Cleveland Estate Winery in Lancefield, no morning tea stop. We set off at 10.15am. following the announcements and briefing.

It was a glorious warm and sunny day, perfect for driving. “Tourboss” promises to take all the guesswork out of navigating. I’m usually navigator so I was hoping for the best and was not disappointed.

We headed east from the dealership through Donvale, Warrandyte, Kangaroo Ground and then toward Panton Hill. The Highway Patrol was hiding near Panton Hill, we trust no-one got caught out by the mobile speed camera. From here we aimed for Arthurs Creek, past the Yan Yean Reservoir and then north along Merriang Road for 30km and on to Wallan. We then followed the Northern Highway to Kilmore and on to the winery.

The road surface was generally acceptable, but of course there were some places where

Sunday 4th May 2025 | Story by Lee Harding | Photos by Nick Yates

potholes were to be watched out for. There wasn’t much traffic enroute and we were able to warm the engines up here and there. There were still some who missed a couple of turns but generally we all arrived together.

We were greeted by several staff members at Cleveland Estate Winery, guiding us to the carpark and explaining the location of the restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty.

After the main course was served, Geoff Mould took the microphone again to deal with formalities. New members Jeff McLachlan, and John and Lee Hartman were invited to introduce themselves and were graciously offered a bottle of wine each. Nick Yates was also given a bottle of wine by way of thanks for his efforts as our photographer on the day. We were also

invited to have a wine tasting following the meal, at the Cellar Door; with the cost of tasting was to be taken off any wine purchased.

Geoff went on to thank us all for attending and reminded us that volunteers are always needed in both the Social and Track committees if anyone was interested in helping out.

Clyde White then spoke to the audience. He thanked the organiser Geoff Mould for the meticulous planning and execution of the day. He was effusive about the amount of time Geoff and others donates to the club and how much they contribute, which does not go unnoticed.

John and I had a great day. This was the second event we have participated in since joining PCV. The previous one was a mid-week run with approximately 10 cars. It was exciting to see all

the cars lined up at both Doncaster and at the winery. I am so impressed with the warmth and friendliness with which we have been welcomed into the Club. You don’t very often see people of all walks of life coming together in a convivial atmosphere. We were made to feel instantly comfortable with like-minded people.

The whole day was enjoyable, and we are looking forward to the next one. I found “Tourboss” to be intuitive to use and it made the navigation so easy. Others were saying the same thing. I think it’s a winner.

I wish you all safe travels until we meet again. n

Sandown 300 Team Regularity

The 15th edition of the Porsche Club of Victoria (PCV) regularity, the 2025 Sandown 300 Team Regularity was successfully held on Sunday 23rd March 2025.

This event marked the final regularity competition organised by the club, featuring updated regulations to accommodate faster vehicles and enhance on-track safety for all participants, including flag marshals, officials, teams, and drivers.

After a short practice session in the morning, the event started just on 11:00am. The day unfolded under clear skies and dry conditions, creating an ideal atmosphere for motorsport enthusiasts. Teams gathered to compete over a five-hour period, aiming for the most consistent lap times rather than sheer speed. This emphasis on precision and consistency was well-received by competitors, who appreciated the unique challenge presented by the format.

It was delightful to observe how teams managed their operations, each bringing their distinct flair to the event. From individualised pit boards and customised uniforms to unique procedural approaches, these elements underscored the diverse strategies and cultures. This variety enriched the event, fostering a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated both individuality and a shared passion for racing.

The day ran smoothly, thanks to the diligent efforts of officials, the motorsport committee, and the flag marshals, whose unwavering support ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all. A particularly heartwarming tradition was the exchange of waves between drivers and flag marshals at the end of each session, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among all involved.

The competition concluded with the following teams (all from PCV) securing podium positions:

First Place: Porsche Specialists

Second Place: Has Beens

Third Place: Team Mezger

Notably, two women’s teams participated this year: The Leadfoot Ladies from the Porsche Club and the BMW Women’s Team, highlighting growing inclusivity in motorsport.

Individual special mention to our most consistent male and female drivers of the day

Most Consistent Driver of the Day: Juris Briedis

Most Consistent Woman of the Day: Petrina Astbury

We particularly thank prominent PCV members Belucci Murelli and Kayleen Mahony who stepped in to support the event with printed competitor numbers sponsored by MMM Accounting & Business Management.

Why is the PCV regularity being discontinued?

The regularity is a significant undertaking for the Club. It is a complicated and timeconsuming event to run because it is technically and logistically challenging. The day requires an expanded marshal and safety, medical, and catering teams. We spend considerable effort developing and promoting the event, and pay close attention to feedback from participants, aiming to create an enjoyable day.

For all the effort required to run the event, the level of participation in recent years has been disappointing. The last few years have seen a reduction in numbers, to the point where we feel that the time and effort is no longer justified. The changes made in 2025 were intended as a last try to see whether we would appeal to a larger number of entrants. Sadly, it was not to be. Effectively, participants have voted with their feet.

Over the years

In the summer 2009/2010 edition of Porsche Parade the late Jeff Thomas noted that several club members had banded together to give PCV members the opportunity to compete in a relay of our own at Sandown on February 28 next year (2010) - a four-hour relay conducted over the course of one day.

Many people have been part of the regularity over the years, and early on the drive and organisation of the late Jeff Thomas and Michael Chapman and the Competition Committee was instrumental.

After starting as a PCV-only event by 2012 we invited non-marque cars to participate. For many the event became an essential part of their motorsport year. Of course this had its own issues, mainly the indignity of non-Porsche teams winning the PCV regularity for the first time in 2019.

Over the years the format changed with the times: from four to six hours - and five in the final iteration, from practice day on the Saturday (making a full two-day event), to sharing practice with Marque Sports Car Association of Victoria (MSCA) on Saturday afternoon. The Club can be proud that successive organising committees worked to see how they could improve the next event.

353 Teams participated over the 15 years, although several teams participated every year. Team names were enigmatic, with Porsche Specialists, Four Play, Tango Malango, All Torque and Are We There Yet being regular participants and multiple podium appearances. PCV teams won the event no less than eleven times.

What about the conditions? There were very warm events, there were cold events. Rain drenched days and days of belting sun. Probably the toughest were the ‘Melbourne Days’ – light rain, cloudy, heavy rain, sunshine,

light rain etc. Or wet for practice meaning wet nominated times and a dry event. Phil Treloar noted ‘the dynamics of wet intermediate and dry in mix with half wet and half dry was fantastic with so many variables”.

From 2015 sponsors included Liquimoly, Mobil1, SpeedCraft, Porsche Centre Brighton and finally MMM Accounting & Business Management. The sponsorship was very important as it helped underwrite the event – with sponsorship in place the organising committee could go ahead with confidence that the club wasn’t completely at risk financially.

The event was consistently commended for the high standard of organisation. In 2015 the PCV regularity was recognised as the 2015 CAMS Victorian Motorsport event of the year. Tony Carolan noted that whilst this is a great honour for PCV, the real heroes are the members of the competition committee, and our marshals and officials who put so much time and effort to make sure our events run efficiently and professionally.

By 2019 the regularity formed part of the new Victorian Regularity Series. Combining with the Victorian 6-hour relay for a series brought together two of Australia’s biggest regularity events.

The 2022 event saw the participation of Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer John Bowe, who kindly presented trophies to the winning teams. John was very generous in his praise about the event, and particularly the on-track conduct of drivers.

Thanks!

As this long-standing event draws to a close, heartfelt thanks are extended to all club officials and members who contributed to its success. The day not only celebrates competitive spirit but also the unity of various car clubs coming together for the love of motorsport.

Whilst many people contributed significantly, a few deserve special mention: the late Jeff Thomas and Michael Chapman, former Presidents Michael O’Brien, Andrew Bonwick and Tony Carolan, Competition Directors Andrew Smith and Bill Toohey, Gordon Johnstone, and many members of the regularity organising committees.

Grant Stephenson was particularly vital to marketing and arranging the supply of trophies for over the life of the event, even stepping in to help with the 2025 Event after he had ‘retired’ from the organising committee. Grant initiated the Regularity videos which were to help with marketing the event but are now a great memoir of why it was so popular. A link to the Club’s YouTube channel – which contains multiple years of videos of the event - is located on the home page of pcv.com.au

Throughout the fifteen years the Victorian Motorsport community supported the Club magnificently. This includes the wonderful crew from the Victorian Flagmarshalling Team, numerous representatives of Motorsport Australia, WAP Motorsport Safety, Emergency Response Services, Bruce and Petrina Astbury and the MSCA, Kristy Roberts and Darren McKemmish (timing), Danny Jonas, Deanne Goodreid (radio stalwart), and Drew Wilson and his crew of Scrutineers.

Thank you to the 2025 Sandown 300 Team Regularity organising committee - Andrew Bonwick, Juris Briedis, Bill Toohey, Murray Seymour, and Mark Horton Andrews.

Finally, thank you to all of you who participated, volunteered, and supported the event. Hopefully there will come a time – in the not-too-distant future - when enthusiasm returns and moves are made to reinstate the regularity format. n

Several members scored single victories, notably including former Presidents Harrison, Carolan and Treloar (M).

Grand Tour to South Australia

Day 1 - A Memorable Start in Mount Gambier

The Porsche Club of Victoria’s Grand Tour to South Australia kicked off in spectacular style, with the first night spent at The Barn in Mount Gambier. Nestled among stunning cottage gardens, this charming venue provided the perfect setting for an evening of fine dining and camaraderie.

With 40 Porsches—spanning all ages and models—lined up in the car park, the excitement was palpable as both new and longtime members gathered to share their passion for these iconic machines. The evening featured a superb three-course dinner, complemented by an extensive wine list that showcased the region’s finest drops. Laughter, stories, and the unmistakable bond of Porsche enthusiasm set the tone for an unforgettable tour, as the convoy prepared to venture deeper into South Australia’s scenic roads.

Day 2 (a) - Drive from Mount Gambier to Tailem Bend

The morning began with a hearty breakfast at The Barn in Mount Gambier—a perfect setting for the start of Day 2 on the Porsche Club of Victoria South Australia Grand Tour. With two enticing routes to choose from—the dramatic Limestone Coast or the grand vineyards of Coonawarra—we opted for the coastal path, eager to embrace the breathtaking scenery.

Porsches of every color and vintage drove through the beautiful landscape on the South Australian roads, a stark contrast to the rough roads of Victoria. Leaving Mount Gambier behind, the Limestone Coast unveiled itself in all its glory. The road twisted and turned along rugged cliffs, offering glimpses of the Southern Ocean sparkling under the bright sky. We made a planned stop at the National Trust Museum in Millicent—a delightful detour steeped in history. The museum, nestled within the charming township, offered a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past. Its exhibits ranged from historic machinery and early settler artifacts to an impressive collection of horse-drawn vehicles. Wandering through the displays, it was easy to imagine the lives of those who came before us, shaping the communities around this picturesque coast.

After the museum visit and a quick lunch, the group returned to the road. The drive continued, winding past pristine beaches and through sleepy coastal hamlets, each more enchanting than the last.

Our journey concluded for the day at Rydges Pitt Lane Hotel situated trackside at the iconic Bend Motorsport Park. We parked our Porsches and settled in for two nights at this motorsport haven. The day had been one of contrasts—natural beauty, historical intrigue, and the ever-present thrill of the open road.

Day 2 of the Grand Tour - the stage was set for more adventures to come, but for now, we could rest, replaying the memories of a truly magnificent day.

Day 2 (b) – Cocktail Party at The Bend Motorsport Park

After arriving at The Bend Motorsport Park, from Mount Gambier, we gathered for a cocktail party. The relaxed setting encouraged lively conversation and laughter amongst the flow of canapes, drinks and plenty of photo moments against the backdrop of modern and classic motoring history.

Groups gathered to enjoy a drink and discuss the day’s drive from Mt Gambier via Robe and other towns along the way and what lay ahead tomorrow for our track drive! Some were apprehensive, others were vying for the driver’s seat, Lois Saber & Maria Del Gallo won ahead of husbands Garry & Alvaro!!

The event was a testament to the strong community within the PCV, highlighting not only the members’ appreciation for highperformance vehicles but also their shared camaraderie and love for quality experiences. It was an evening to remember, perfectly blending motorsport, and great company.

As the night came to a close some adjourned to the upstairs bar, others called it a night in anticipation of what lay ahead in the coming days on our PCV Grand Tour.

1st - 8th April 2025

Day 3 (a) - A Novice View from the Driver’s Seat

After signing in at Race Reception and getting our wrist tags, we all assembled in the reception area for our drivers’ briefing which was presented to us by Alison and Ricky Capo from The Bend Motorsport Park. We were given an idea of what we would be doing and what would be expected of us as driver behaviour.

We all expected to do a parade lap behind a pace car at 80kph. To our surprise we were to keep the first lap to 100 kph and build from there over 4 laps with passing allowed on the straights. Now the nerves really kicked in as I have never driven a car at a much greater speed than the road limits and I seriously contemplated withdrawing.

After a tour of the race complex and control room, which was very impressive, I decided to give it a go even though hubby was keen to swap seats because we were going to do the 7.7 km GT circuit.

We all got into our cars and tried to position ourselves in a single line behind the pace car based on our track driving experience. I ended up two thirds down the queue, unfortunately not at the rear. We followed the pace car onto the track and we were off!

Garry said he would talk to me about how to drive the track. I said if he yelled at me, I would put his precious car into the grass and he could walk back! As we progressed my confidence

grew. I listened to hubby (first time!) and I began to appreciate how good these cars really are. The pace increased with each lap. On the third lap Garry said to floor it down the main straight. I reached 150kph before getting way too nervous. I was shaking and my mouth went dry, so I settled down to a more comfortable speed for me. We completed 5 laps, what a hoot!

When we returned to the car park there was a lot of excitement as we all exited our cars. The experience was way beyond the expected “Parade Lap”. Well done Alison and Ricky for giving us such a wonderful experience.

PS: Both marriage and car survived the day.

Day 3 (b) – Drive and lunch at lake Breeze Wines

Following our enjoyable morning laps around the international racetrack at The Bend, we set off for a leisurely drive to the Lake Breeze Winery at Langhorn Creek for a relaxing three course lunch.

Many people chose to take their cars across the Murray River ferry crossings at Tailem Bend or Wellington rather than taking the longer route via Murray Bridge, but either way we were rewarded with a scenic drive and a superb lunch and wine tasting for those who desired it.

For those who have the opportunity we highly recommend the winery as the food and wine were excellent and location of the restaurant in the middle of the vines was very scenic.

Following lunch everyone relaxed in the restaurant or outside in the sun admiring the vines and our cars, a perfect combination. This was followed by a leisurely drive back via the same route or alternate ferries for change. Some chose to use the time to explore the other local wineries in the area or visit shops and sites at Murray Bridge or Tailem Bridge before heading back to the Rydges Pitt Lane Hotel for dinner.

Day 4 – Tailem Bend to Victor Harbour

Variety as they say is the spice of life –and the Porsche Club’s Grand Tours have always excelled at providing variety!

Yesterday we were driving The Bend, trying not to get too carried away as we zigged and zagged round the 35 corners of the 7.77km GT Circuit. This morning – in the space of a few kilometres – the landscape changed from the stark dry and dusty flat land around Tailem Bend to the lush green valleys of the area known as Murraylands. This stretch of the Murray River extends for 180km from the Victorian border to the Mt Lofty Ranges east of Adelaide.

Most of the group chose this route – heading north from The Bend until we hit the Murray just east of Younghusband and the Teal Flat. From various lookout points the views back up the broad expanse of river were spectacular – a wide valley lined with river gums threading through the dry limestone landscape.

After a ferry crossing, the favoured lunch stop was Mannum – founded around 1850 and recognised as the port where the Murray River paddle steamer trade began. Today the PS Murray Princess offers multi-day tours up and down the river starting and finishing in Mannum. From Mannum, Alan and Alison had devised some fast flowing country roads – and another

ferry crossing to get us to Victor Harbour. After passing through the townships of Pallamana, Monarto and Callington under blue skies, the town of Strathalbyn provided a historic setting for a sandwich and comfort stop. From there, various excellent and empty roads led to Victor Harbour, either direct or via the mouth of the Murray at historic Goolwa. All in all, a terrific 200 km day, with the excellent facilities of the McCracken Golf and Country Club at journey’s end in time for a cold beer for some, and a quick bucket of balls for others.

Day 5 – Coorong National Park Cruise

When we first saw the places we were visiting on our SA trip we were excited by the prospect of visiting the Coorong. We had heard so many comments on the serenity and diversity of what was there, the history, the flora and fauna……had we oversold it to ourselves?

So, with anticipation we set out by bus to board our two boats. After departing the Goolwa wharf we were welcomed by Captain Kirk to begin our journey on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The Coorong National Park, exceeded our expectations….a wetland wilderness of international significance on our doorstep.

Interestingly Captain Kirk told us that Sports commentator Bruce McAvaney had chosen Goolwa, overlooking the Coorong as his home. Listening to the historic events and enjoying watching the pelicans, seals, kangaroos and emus in this blissful place transported us back in time. We walked through a section of the park with no one else in view, taking in indigenous cultural sites, traditional foods and medicines and watching Kirk dig for Pipi on the beach. Another highlight of our trip and a place to return to.

Day 6 – Free day

Day 7 (a) - Victor Harbour to Clare. The scenic route.

What a fabulous trip so far. We left home in Melbourne on Sunday morning last and crossed from Sorrento to Queenscliff on the ferry. Two days later we caught up with the PCV members in Mt Gambier travelling along the Great Ocean Road via the Scenic Route.

Then after five days of laughter, fine food and great roads, (thanks Alison and team) we took off from Victor Harbour on our way to Clare. We chose to travel through Hahndorf, Birdwood and Tanunda. The National Motor Museum was like visiting an old friend, but the Holden display created new interest. Tanunda saw lunch, then after a few more wiggly k’s in our big Panamera S, in true Porsche style we arrived at Clare Country Club with big grins on both our faces.

Monday’s dinner at the Watervale Hotel offered us a mini degustation of local foods and wines. A gastronomic delight. The owner entertained us with a chat on the area including the history of copper mining.

Covid then reared its ugly head on our last day. Shades of Canberra two years ago.

Nevertheless, we soldiered on through more beautiful scenery and historic towns. After an afternoon rest, we bussed to Pike’s Winery to dine in Slate restaurant and art gallery.

Grant Pike, a fourth-generation wine maker briefed us on his wines and the art by his daughter hanging in the gallery.

Wine tasting was available prior to sitting down to a BBQ lover’s dream experience. Lots of outstanding small courses preceded a mind-boggling Rib Eye steak served charred to perfection yet still rare inside. This was paired with an accompanying salad and expertly prepared chicken pieces. See menu. Clyde made our appreciation presentation to Alison and Alan who promised an even

better tour in two years’ time. This was followed by a standing ovation as this year’s tour would be truly hard to beat. We were again bussed home to roll into bed.

Wednesday night, Coonawarra Motel in Penola and for our last night View Grand Queenscliff Hotel then a last ferry ride then home.

Day 7 (b) – Dinner at Watervale Hotel

Just when you think the Tour could not get better, Alison Belot gave us the Watervale Hotel! On the penultimate night of our Tour, we were transferred by bus to the award-winning, Watervale Hotel. The Hotel is owned and personally run by SA Chef of the Year, Nicola Palmer and her husband Warrick Duthy.

We were treated to a five-course dinner with local recommended wines. Moreover, we had an informative talk by Warrick Duthy, who gave a history journey of the Clare from creation to first nations and today, with its current and future issues. The food was superb, the wines spectacular, the service spot-on and the conversation and conviviality; joyful.

Day 8 - Dinner at Pikes Winery

The last dinner of the Grand Tour was at the Pike’s Winery, Slate Restaurant, just a 20 minute bus ride from our accommodation at the Clare Valley Country Club. Pike’s Winery was a beautiful setting of stone buildings, typical of this part of South Australia, and modern tasting room and restaurant from the renovation of an old shearing shed.

We were greeted by Andrew and Cathy Pike and were then directed to the bar to indulge in a complimentary beverage before the service of delicious canapes. Many of us took advantage of the cellar door, which was open all night, headed up by Manager “Pud”, to taste and purchase wine to accompany the meal or take/ship home.

After standing and mingling with canapes we all moved to our seats and the meal service began and honestly was too extensive to describe in full for this article. We started with house baked sourdough focaccia and cultured butter. Followed by 3 different shared plates for entrée and 2 shared main and side dishes. Our favourite was the chargrilled wagyu rib eye steak. The dinner finished with a citrus posset.

Head chef Louis Ritchie gave us some insight into the creation of the meal. Apparently, there had been some friendly discussion with the chef from the previous night’s meal at the Watervale Hotel, to ensure not to being out done. Honestly, we would not want to make a call on the two meals, both absolutely exquisite.

The evening included a talk by Andrew Pike on Pike’s history which began in1886 with brewing and the creation of the wine brand in 1984. Cathy gave us some insight into the fantastic artwork on display by South Australian contemporary pastel artist Jen McDonald.

A fabulous evening of merriment and camaraderie was rounded off with a presentation of a group gift for Alison Belot and Alan Hines for their excellent organisation of the Grand Tour.

Sandown Track Day

18 May |

Following our annual pilgrimage to The Bend in South Australia last April, many were eagerly looking forward to the exhilarating track day at the challenging Sandown Raceway.

As usual for this time of year, wet weather was a sure thing. As BOM had forecast, it rained late Saturday night. We arrived at the track at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning to find it still wet. Fortunately, the rain didn’t return and the track began to dry out as the sessions progressed.

As usual, it was a great turnout at Sandown, with over 70 participants including the Entree class the future of PCV’s competitive drivers. A big thank you to all the mentors on the day who diligently guided the Entree drivers through Sandown Raceway in the fastest and safest way possible.

Groups 3 and 5 had the honour of clearing most of the water puddles from the track surface. By the time Group 1 went out at 10:10 a.m., the track was still damp in several areas. This is when I managed a 1:14.5, far from perfect but very satisfying given the conditions. The 991.2 Cup felt incredibly composed with the chassis setup dialed in just right for the mix of damp patches and drying lines. It gave me the confidence to push where I could and stay smooth where I couldn’t. A great reminder of how much trust you can place in a well-prepared car.

Richard Thompson, our former champion and 996 GT3 expert, spent the day chasing the elusive sub 1:14 lap. After a bit of teasing that he need to move on from that 1:15 field with some words of encouragement, he finally cracked it with

a 1:14.7 in the last session of the day. Well done, Richard! Great to see yet another top PCV driver stepping up to Cup car pace.

Remarkably, several class winners clocked faster lap times compared to their July 2024 results. Some improving by over two seconds!

Bill Toohey (A1)

Danny Loypur (B)

Mark Chrzanowski (C)

Phil Treloar (GT1)

Sally Anne Hains (Open)

Even in the GT4 class, 2nd place Grant Rule and 3rd place Chris Kane showed huge gains. Special mention goes to Michael Jerlitschka, who did a fantastic job leading the GT4 field.

You might be wondering what’s going on. Everyone is getting faster. Diet pills?

Secret fitness training? Competitive driving course? Whatever it is, a great way to go everyone! The only way to fully enjoy your Porsches and to explore the limits of the grip is to become a fitter, sharper driver.

At 62 years old, there’s nothing I dread more other than piloting the beast that is the 991.2 Cup car. But I truly enjoy it. The only way I can do it is through fitness regime and focused mental preparation.

Fastest time of the day: a 1:12.8 by yours truly. That is within 2++ seconds off the young pro driver in the same 991.2 Cup performed in perfect dry condition and they are using $$$ new tyres. Purely academic of course, its like 30% driver input and 70% car performance. If I were in a Cayman S, I’d be struggling to match Bill Toohey’s times!

Close behind was Stefan Wojciechowski with a 1:13.7 in the 991.2 Cup. In fairness, Stefan had to leave early for another event and didn’t get the chance to push to the limit.

Kudos to the rest of the field for putting in their best efforts to conquer Sandown Raceway in their own way while also looking out for one another and keeping all those precious Porsches safe. After all, we’re all just weekend warriors, sharing the track with fellow members whose skills, car performance, and experience levels vary. We are competing with ourselves to better our personal best within the constraint of a club environment.

Let’s leave the self-inflicted adventures to the seasoned Cup car pilots, those hardcore individual on an endless quest to find the ultimate limit! At the end of the day, the

real winning is you get to enjoy the drive and making it home in one piece too.

A huge thank you to the real heroes of the day our behind-the-scenes volunteers. From the tower official to the ever-vigilant marshals, the scrutineers, your dedication ensures our safety and makes days like this possible. Truly can’t imagine enjoying the event without you all. Also thanks to the Club photographers for capturing our best moments.

Finally, a special shoutout to Richard Catchlove, who put his time behind the wheel of his Cayman on hold to be up in the tower, serving as our guiding angel over the RACEceiver. What a reassuring voice to have in your ear!

That’s the kind of selfless spirit that truly makes our club so special. n

Sandown Track Day

Jimmy Shen

My name is Jimmy Shen. I am a photographer. I used to be a fashion photographer, and I’ve always worked in a studio or atelier. Because I found it too boring in the studio, I came out as an event photographer and also volunteered at many events. But I still hadn’t found something that allowed me to really enjoy. When I was a kid I was really into cars and I always had a dream to become a race car driver. But for various reasons I couldn’t realize my dream. It wasn’t until I came to Australia that I really started to realize my dream. I am now a kart racer and I joined the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club. I also got my Media Accreditation in Motorsport. When I was in Sydney I had a friend who was a race car driver and it was because of him and his family that I was inspired to be where I am today. I started out as a photographer for the Mazda MX-5 club but moved to Melbourne for work.

As I’ve always loved Porsches, I’m now shooting for Porshe Club Victoria. That’s my story, please follow me and thank you.

Go-Kart Night -

A High-Octane Evening of Fun & Friendly Rivalry

The annual PCV Go-Kart Night was already off to a flying start—even before the engines roared to life. With Melbourne blessing us with a warm and pleasant autumn evening, it was clear the weather gods were smiling on us.

Thirty enthusiastic club members gathered at Ace Karts Albion, home to a fast, technical, and always entertaining track. Excitement was in the air as teams prepared to battle it out for bragging rights and a place on the podium.

A big shout-out to Debbie Weinbach, who once again pulled everything together with precision—organizing trophies, pizzas, and soft drinks. And let’s be honest: go-karting works up a serious thirst and appetite!

The Ace Karts crew delivered a smooth and efficient pre-race briefing, and the timing system ran better than ever. Once teams were sorted, it was on to qualifying—and then the real fun began.

As with any spirited race, the first corner was a chaotic blur of wheels and willpower. But once the field settled, the competition kicked into high gear with some truly impressive driving on display.

Of course, in the end, only one team can take the top spot—but the spirit of competition was alive throughout the pack. This time, it was the younger racers who claimed victory once again.

Congratulations to our winners:

1st: Zac & Hani (#17)

2nd: Ross & Steven (#20)

3rd: Peter & Ethan (#24)

But really, everyone who got out on the track was a winner. The smiles, laughter, and post-race buzz said it all—this was another unforgettable PCV night.

So if you missed out, do yourself a favour and join us next time. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s not to be missed! n

Technical Night at House of Tint

This was the first Tech Night for 2025. What a great start to have House of Tint give us the benefits of having Tint and PPF wrapping to our Porsches (clear wrap). On arrival we were greeted by Sam Nivas who also organized this great the Tech Night.

As we entered what was a very clean and neat shop area, there was also a welcoming table of what was very nice individual Pizzas and drinks (non-alcoholic). It was a good way to start the evening as we met up with fellow

members. It was also a pleasant surprise to see the Club President Russell Sturzaker join us, considering he had to drive from Geelong. Still, it was good that he was able to join us for what was to be a very informative evening.

Our hosts were Trish and Travis from House of Tint and Trav, the guest from XPEL supplier of Tint and PPF material. The team provided an informative presentation, not only using good quality material, which is very important, but also following correct application process.

This Technical Night was a very relaxing, informative and productive evening. Almost forgot there was a lucky draw for a complimentary PPF that one of our members won!

Thanks to the team of House of Tint of providing what was a great evening. Also, to Sam Nivas who organized a great event. I look forward to the next Technical Night which I am sure Sam will surprise us. n

Horses & Horsepower

Special Interest

In early 2024 I had an idea for a women’s group run that combined two of my passions - Horses and Porsches. A drive, a trail ride and then lunch. But would other ladies in the club be interested in doing this? Would people pay to do it?

I decided to back myself and have my very own Field of Dreams moment: If I plan it, they will come.

I did the research and formed a plan. In February of this year, I pushed ahead and launched the event: Horses and Horsepower. You can imagine my relief when the run booked out two months in advance and within a week of being open for registrations. We even had a waitlist.

But then began the agonising two month wait to see what the weather would do on the day. April can be a little bit hit and miss and going for a horse ride in bad weather along the beach was unlikely to give me glowing reviews in the post run survey. Lo and behold the weather gods were very friendly in April and the weather for the whole run was absolutely perfect at 26°C and sunny. Our starting point was the Coolstores at Moorooduc. This location with its great little cafe and ample parking seems to be a local favourite. It was certainly very popular with the ‘mammals’. After the briefing we headed out for a beautiful scenic drive along the Esplanade. It was definitely a day that favoured the convertibles. Then it was up and over Arthurs

Seat to St Andrew’s Beach and Gunnamatta Trail rides. While a couple of people elected to skip the horse riding and go for a hike along the beach (which ended up being an adventure in itself, that I will let Helen and Megan regale you all with) the rest of us were paired up with our trusty steads and we hit the trails.

It was a very leisurely 2 hour ride through the bush to the beach and back. Then a very short drive across the road to St Andrew’s Brewery and lunch at The Stables, where the horse riders reunited with the walkers.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful ladies of the Porsche Club who bought in to my vision and helped bring it to life. n

Young Members Ice-cream Run

Good Roads, Great People

Sunday 6th Apri 2025 | Story and Photos by Asha

What a way to kick off the very first Young Members event! We started the day off easy, with a slightly later meet time and a shorter route planned - perfect for anyone needing a bit of a sleep-in, (maybe that’s just me). Even with the relaxed pace, we still had plenty of time to explore some winding roads through the hills. It was the ideal mix for shaking off the rust and properly enjoying our cars.

The energy from the group was great—lots of laughs, good conversations, and that shared buzz of being out with a bunch people who love our cars as much as we do. Our morning coffee stop was appreciated giving everyone a chance to refuel, chat more about cars (a never-ending topic!), and introduce everyone properly.

We had to battle the school holiday traffic, but with the sun shining and the roads still treating us well, no one was complaining (fingers crossed). The ice cream stop at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie turned out to be the perfect reward.

All up, it was a solid day out - great people, great cars, and a fantastic start to what’s hopefully shaping up to be an awesome new group. n

Club Morning at Young Timers Garage

Porsche Club Victoria’s first club morning of the year turned out to be a spectacular one at that. Building on the success of two previous events at Young Timers Garage, this year’s gathering was another standout. The weather was unseasonably warm for midApril, more like a summer’s day, with a warm north wind and bright sunshine overhead.

For my wife Rose and I, it was just a short drive down EastLink to the venue. Word must have leaked out to Victoria Police about our event, as Highway Patrol had their speed cameras out in force not far from the venue — but as always, our members were well-behaved, and there was no talk of anyone receiving any fines.

Everyone seemed to have had the same idea to arrive early. We assumed we’d have the pick of the parking, but the place was already buzzing. PCV stalwarts Barb Darvall, Kon Gogos, Kayleen Mahony, Srey Sen and Geoff Mould were on entry duty, checking names and guiding arrivals, and we ended up parking under the eye-catching mural dedicated to Formula 1 heroes — a fitting backdrop for a day all about automotive passion.

First stop was the Mr. Craftsmen Café — normally the local weekday hangout in the industrial estate where Young Timers Garage is based. Specially opened for us on a Sunday, the café was dishing out tasty breakfast staples, while the outdoor barista cart was flat out keeping up with the caffeine demand. This quickly became the social hub — full of chatter, laughter, and all things Porsche. With such a diverse group of members united by their love for the brand (and perhaps a soft spot for the odd other marque), there was always a good conversation to be had.

Formalities followed soon after. With President Russell Sturzaker and Clyde White unavailable, Geoff Mould stepped up to the microphone to welcome everyone. He gave an update on club activities, thanked the event contributors Young Timers Garage, Mr. Craftsman Café; followed by warmly welcoming a new member Michael Bonaddio to the fold.

Then it was time to explore the real stars of the show: the cars. Whether front-, mid-, or rear-engined — or no engine at all, in the case of the electric motored Taycan. Most eras and styles of Porsches (no 356s or 550s sadly)

were represented. From pristine classic 911 E bodies to the latest track-focused GT3 RS, there was something for everyone to admire.

Speaking of admiring — a wander through Young Timers Garage itself was next on the agenda. The showroom was packed with automotive gems: a fine selection of aircooled Porsches, Jaguars, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, McLarens, Ferraris, AMGs, American muscle cars, and even a few “humble” classics like special edition hot hatches from the early 90’s.

My own garage is full and my budget for hobby cars low, so it was a window-shopping exercise only. That said, if First Division in TattsLotto ever comes my way, I can imagine an extension to the garage and a shopping spree at Young Timers wouldn’t be far behind.

A heartfelt thanks goes to Steven and Shaun Baker from Young Timers Garage for once again hosting us in their fantastic facility. Also, a big thank you to the PCV organizing committee and the many volunteers who help bring these events to life. Without your efforts, none of this would happen — and it’s truly appreciated. n

Porsche Mid Week Run to Macedon

Wednesday 14th May 2025

Meeting at BP Rockbank at 9:15am we checked in with Natalie, then had some time to meet with fellow drivers and have a chat before Natalie briefed us all on how the day would progress. Leaving the meeting point around 9:45am, we headed via Bacchus Marsh and Ballan to Hepburn Springs. Here we stopped for a break and a coffee at the Hepburn

Pavilion Café, a lovely old building on the edge of Hepburn Regional Park. Natalie had pre organised a deal with the café for us at $10 for a coffee & scone, great negotiations Natalie!

Stage 2 took us from Hepburn Springs to Mt. Macedon Winery via some nice undulating and twisty roads, typical of 90% of our Victorian roads these days, we did encounter some rough patches and roadworks, however all the cars made it unscathed. Whoever is manufacturing the “ROUGH SURFACE AHEAD” signs are flat out these days!

Mt Macedon Winery is positioned on the side of a hill backing onto the Macedon Regional Park, it has a wonderful outlook across rolling hills. Our hosts: Natalie & Leigh were very welcoming, with excellent service, fantastic food and great camaraderie. I’m sure everyone enjoyed themselves.

In summation Margareta and I had a fantastic day, meeting new people, having a great drive and lunch, all very well organised, thanks so much Natalie and Leigh. We will attend more of these runs. n

Boxster & Cayman Register Run to Cannibal Creek

Sunday 25th May 2025 | Story by:

It was a beautiful Autumn morning when we met at the McDonalds Diamond Creek for our briefing to start our run. As I was standing listening intently holding on to my bag strap I was nominated to write these notes. Thanks Jan!

We started our tour winding through the Christmas Hills, past vineyards which gave the promise of what was to come. It was at this point we saw 5 Porsches going in the opposite direction. This did cause some consternation as this was the first time we had used the new Tour boss app.

We decided to trust the process and continue on our way dodging a few portholes and Sunday cyclists. Next we found ourselves heading towards Healesville and past the Four Pillars Distillery, I highly recommend the Bloody Shiraz Gin.

We continued on the Healesville Koo We Rup road, passing through Don Valley. This sparked a very interesting conversation about who is Don and why did he have a valley named after him. Unfortunately Google and Wikipedia was unable to answer the question! We reached our rest stop at Yarra Valley junction for a coffee and a bonus wander around a small market.

Our next section of the run led us past Slaty Creek and picturesque farmland. The Tourboss app was very beneficial at this point in assisting the navigator to provide feedback to the driver about recommended speeds. As usual this feedback was greatly appreciated.

We continued along through the Yarra state forest and through quaint Poweltown. The next part is a little blurry as windy Porsche friendly roads and note taking are not quite my strong suit.

I did notice the turn off to the Ada tree (definitely worth a look next time you are around that way) and oh dear, a deer on the side of the road! We continued through farmland, the home of Targo cheese, past the Speedway track and then Lardner Park (oops, maybe trust the Tours Boss app next time).

We finally made it to our destination Cannibal Creek winery where we were treated to brilliant hospitality, delicious food, fabulous company and of course Cannibal Creek wines. I highly recommend the Pinot Noir.

A huge thank you to Carlo and the Porsche committee for once again providing us all with a wonderful run where we can enjoy not only the destination but the journey. Oh and Jan. I owe you one. n

Modern 911 DRIVE DAY

A brisk, freezing start to the morning didn’t deter the enthusiasm of the Porsche community, as new and existing members gathered at BP Outbound Keilor, right next to the iconic Calder Park Thunderdome. The mood was upbeat, with plenty of smiles, handshakes, and warm catchups before we hit the road. Kons’ trademark energy and positivity helped set the tone, creating an immediate buzz that promised a memorable day ahead.

Our journey began with a western route through Bacchus Marsh along the memorable Avenue of Honour before winding our way north. The roads were a dream for drivers—scenic, flowing, and thankfully quiet—with clear blue skies making for perfect driving conditions.

We paused at Lancefield for a well-earned break and a chance to stretch our legs, grab a coffee, and

chat about the morning’s highlights. Spirits remained high as the group prepared for the second leg.

The second route took us east through Kilmore, south to Wallan, then cut back west toward Darraweit Guim and Bolinda. The final stretch ran south to Wildwood and brought us to our lunch destination—The Black Horse Inn. We were welcomed by friendly owners, treated to excellent service, and enjoyed delicious food at reasonable prices—a perfect ending to the day.

Overall, the drive was a great blend of spirited driving, camaraderie, and scenic Victorian countryside. A big thank you to Kon for his planning and leadership, and to everyone who made the day such a success. Looking forward to the next one. n

GT3/RS/RSR Early Morning Run

Sunday 30th March 2025

Due to the last 2 x times I’ve done this run it’s been very wet (& cold!), I figured best to bring it forward to be the first run of the year. The weather looked ok from the meeting spot in Officer however, as we headed into the hills and its own unique microclimate, we still ended up getting wet…………..it was worth a try.

Typical of my runs, it was elected to again make it an early start. Officer outbound BP was the initial meeting point. Not as nice as the Emerald Bakery but served the purpose of a coffee and some breakfast for those inclined. Once everyone was gathered and after an intro and briefing, we all set off on schedule at 7:30 and headed for Blue Rock Lake via Buln Buln and Shady Creek. It’s a lovey section of country road, through rolling hills and with good visibility.

From Blue Rock Lake we headed to Icy Creek via Willow Grove Road, one of my favourite sections of road. By this stage it was light rain and the roads were indeed wet. Despite this, they are lovely roads that are rewarding at moderate road speeds (thankfully).

From Icy Creek we continued towards Mt Baw Baw along the Tourist Road ended up at Tanjil Bren. This particular section of road is very demanding even in ideal conditions. Given the wet roads, it really makes for an engaging and challenging drive. It is very dense, 98% corner ratio, narrow and with shoulders of leaf litter (that are literally like ice) it requires precision. All members managed the roads & conditions with the skill and maturity I’ve come to expect from the group and all arrived safely at Tanjil for a well-earned morning tea that I’d managed to squeeze into the frunk of the 77 911.

Given the remote location I’d organised a picnic hamper of wraps, pastries & fruit. We all huddled under a covered picnic table, ate, and decompressed after what is always a memorable section of road.

This was also the first run completed with the new Tourboss app and for a trial run I felt it worked pretty well. It was great to be able to track and see all participants to ensure everyone was on route.

A huge thankyou to Jerry Wen @_shotbyjerry who came along to shoot video and stills for all the members – lovely work as always! Happy to share any photos & the video with members who are yet to receive a copy.

Thanks to all that came along and braved the challenging conditions yet again! n

Autumn Run to Marnong Estate

A PERFECT DAY FOR THE 911S

Melbourne’s famously unpredictable weather blessed us with brilliant autumn sunshine as our 911s rolled out for a run to Marnong Estate. With clear skies above, it was the perfect day to take our prized Porsches out for a spirited drive.

For the first time, we embraced technology by using the Tourboss app instead of traditional paper maps. After a few early hiccups, everyone managed to find their way.

Our morning tea stop at Flying Tarts Café in Kinglake was warm and welcoming, with

excellent coffee and freshly baked treats. From there, we snaked our way through scenic, winding roads—with hairpin turns, narrow passes, and the occasional heartstopping roadside drop—always driving within the speed limit, of course!

Upon arrival at Marnong Estate in Mickleham, we were welcomed with a guided tour of the property. From historic buildings and multiple reception venues to the vineyard’s cellar door and a menagerie of lambs, camels, donkeys, and even peacocks, the estate

was bursting with character and charm. Their wines, all produced onsite from vine to bottle, added a delicious local touch.

Lunch was a standout: Italian-style share plates served generously by Adil, our attentive waiter, ensuring no one left hungry—or thirsty.

A huge thank you to Leon Christodulaki and Roger Vella for organising such a wellexecuted and thoroughly enjoyable run.

Another unforgettable Porsche adventure. Bring on the next one! n

Mid 911 Register Run to Parkside Winery

On Easter Saturday, 19th April, a group of members gathered at McDonald’s in Diamond Creek to begin their scenic run to Parkside Winery. Despite the absence of Easter bunnies and eggs, the car park was lively with an array of colourful Porsche models, although only two of the cars were mid 911s.

This run provided a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and welcome new ones, including Warren and Tina who had recently joined the club and were participating in their first run. The route was conveniently presented using the new Tourboss app, which made navigation seamless and allowed participants to track the positions of other cars throughout the day. Special thanks go to Marcus Hancock for sponsoring this innovative facility.

Before leaving, Paul Sbrissa briefed us on the likelihood of encountering cyclists and tight roads along the route. The presence of potholes, an everyday hazard now unfortunately, was also highlighted.

Departing at 9:30 AM, the convoy embarked on an enjoyable journey along the winding roads that meandered through Flowerdale and Strath Creek, eventually reaching Seymour for a well-deserved morning tea stop. Seymour’s bustling atmosphere and variety of cafes catered to everyone’s need for a caffeine boost.

Remembering to hit the stage 2 button on the app after departing for the 2nd section of the run was a must or one could find themselves returning to the initial departure point! The route continued along the twisty roads passing through Pyalong. The speed limits needed to be watched intently, as they yo-yoed back and forth from 60 to 80 to 100!

We arrived at Parkside Winery on time for lunch at 1 pm. Parkside Winery and Farm is a small, vibrant vineyard and winemaking business located in Lancefield. It is set in a small, restored Clydesdale horse stable providing ample wine tasting facilities. We

were seated outside in a gazebo, which was pleasant on the warm autumn day.

Our waiter for the day was Scott, who kept us amused with his quick wit and friendly demeanour. We started our lunch with beautiful artisan cheese platters, followed by a selection of gourmet stone-baked pizzas, and finished with cheesecakes and fresh fruit. Easter was not forgotten as Karen distributed small eggs to all, before we left.

The raffle winners of the day, Teresa, Noeleene and Peter, each went home with a bottle of one of the local wines on offer. Our thanks to Paul and Karen for their great organisation of the run.

The camaraderie and shared passion for Porsches made this run as always, an enjoyable day out for everyone. n
