Community leaders and partners break ground on the Crane Creek Trail extension — a moment marking the start of new connections, open space, and shared progress in Rohnert Park. The future is officially underway.
On May 28, 2025, the City of Rohnert Park hosted a landmark groundbreaking ceremony for the Crane Creek Trail extension a longanticipated project that will expand the Copeland Creek Trail from Sonoma State University to Crane Creek Regional Park.
City Manager Marcela Piedra opened the event, followed by welcoming remarks from Mayor Gerard Giudice. Patricia Miraz, Vice Chair of the Tribal Council of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, offered reflections on the project’s cultural importance and the shared stewardship of the land.
Vice Mayor Emily Sanborn recognized project partners. Sonoma County District 1 Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo emphasized the region’s ongoing investment in state infrastructure and open space Emily Cutrer, Interim President of Sonoma State University, spoke to the trail’s significance for students and the campus community. Melanie Parker, Deputy Director of Sonoma County Regional Parks, highlighted the County’s commitment to public health, sustainability, and equitable access. The project will feature a new 90-foot-long steel pedestrian bridge across Copeland Creek, two new 16-foot-long metal bridges, a signalized crossing at Petaluma Hill Road, and nearly 72 acres of added parkland bringing Crane Creek Regional Park to over 200 acres.
A ceremonial shovel moment closed the event
This project reflects the power of partnership and the value of investing in trails that connect us all. Construction is now underway and expected to wrap up in spring 2026.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to make this moment so special—your presence reflects the heart of this community-led project.
Recently, the City has hosted a series of neighborhood safety meetings designed to connect directly with residents and share practical emergency preparedness tools. From Valley Village to District 1, these events have offered helpful information on how to stay ready and resilient during emergencies.
In Valley Village, we focused on safety considerations unique to mobile home communities. At both meetings, residents heard from Public Safety leadership about programs like the “Vial of Life, ” how to properly maintain fire alarms, and the importance of having a plan before an emergency strikes. We also discussed the value of signing up for Nixle alerts, staying connected with neighbors, and choosing high-quality emergency supplies locally whenever possible.
These meetings are one of many ways we’re working to make Rohnert Park safer, more informed, and better connected. We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and we look forward to continuing this important work with other neighborhoods soon. Join us for our District 4 meeting on June 11 at Evergreen Elementary School (1125 Emily Avenue) from 6-7 PM.
Join us on Friday, June 13 at 9:00 AM at Rohnert Park City Hall (130 Avram Avenue) as we raise the Juneteenth flag in recognition of a pivotal moment in American history
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of liberation, remembrance, and resilience.
As we raise the flag together, we stand in solidarity with Black communities in Rohnert Park and beyond, honoring the strength, leadership, and enduring contributions of Black Americans throughout our shared history This is more than a flag raising. It’s a collective commitment to justice, reflection, and unity. All are welcome—please stand with us.
Get ready, Rohnert Park—something shiny this way comes! From Sunday, June 22 through Friday, June 27, keep your eyes peeled for a parade of vintage Franklin automobiles cruising through the city. We’re thrilled to welcome Westrek 2025, the 55th annual gathering of antique car enthusiasts, as they tour some of the most beautiful rural areas of Sonoma and Marin counties.
This weeklong celebration of classic cars will be based at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sonoma – Wine Country (One DoubleTree Drive, Rohnert Park) We feel truly privileged to host this incredible event and are reminded just how vibrant and scenic our region is. It’s an honor that Westrek has chosen Rohnert Park as its home base. Whether you're a longtime car lover or simply appreciate a bit of nostalgia, don’t miss your chance to witness history on wheels rolling right through the Friendly City!

On May 13, 2025, Mayor Gerard Giudice, on behalf of the Rohnert Park City Council, proclaimed May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) Heritage Month in the City of Rohnert Park.
This annual recognition honors the enduring contributions of AA and NHPI communities to the history, culture, and civic life of Rohnert Park and the United States
From the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants in 1843 to the Chinese laborers who played a vital role in completing the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, the month of May marks powerful milestones in our shared history.
Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have long shaped the story of Rohnert Park serving as educators, entrepreneurs, artists, service members, and community leaders. Their traditions, resilience, and generosity continue to enrich our city and inspire generations to come.
We are proud to celebrate and honor these communities—this month and all year long

On May 30, the City of Rohnert Park gathered at City Center Plaza to raise the Pride flag—a powerful and heartfelt tradition that reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusion, equity, and community.
As Mayor Gerard Giudice shared, “Raising the Pride flag is more than a tradition it’s a reflection of who we are as a city. It signals that Rohnert Park is a place where diversity is embraced, and where every person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.”
We were also honored to welcome Athena Rowan Gomez, a transgender Latina advocate who reminded us what local action looks like:
“We are here to support each other, and we always are... I’m so proud to be part of the Friendly City and part of making things happen.”
This year’s gathering honored the roots of Pride Month born from protest and grounded in the fight for justice—and renewed our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming city for all. To our LGBTQIA+ community: you are seen, you are valued, and you are essential to the fabric of Rohnert Park.
Happy Pride, from the Friendly City.

HANDSOME,HUGGABLE,AND FULLOFHEART—MAXISREADY FORHISFOREVERHOME!
Max is a 3 5-year-old Rottweiler mix with a big body (83 Lbs.), an even bigger heart and a HUGE (sweet) personality! This handsome hunk came to us as a stray. While we were able to track down his previous owners, they, unfortunately, could no longer keep him-so now he's on the hunt for a new home. Max is full of energy and would love an active home where he can run, play, and get plenty of attention. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys the company of sturdy, confident people.
However, cats are a bit too exciting for Max, so a feline-free home is best. He's a sweet, eager boy who's ready to leave the shelter behind and start a new chapter with a loving family. If you're looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion, Max might just be your guy! Come meet Max and see if he's the perfect fit for your home!
BUNNY:RESERVED,REFINED, ANDREADYTOLOVE

One of the standout moments of the day? Our Pet & Owner Look-Alike Contest—which featured some eerily adorable duos! While there were many close contenders, one pair took home the title with a resemblance that had everyone doing a double take.

This month, we ' re thrilled to spotlight a true local gem (pun intended): Gold Rush Jewelers, owned by the welcoming Rick Lewis! While you might know their Rohnert Park location, you might be surprised to learn that Gold Rush also graces Novato, San Rafael, and Petaluma. Rick's journey into jewelry began unexpectedly after a photography gig for a pawnshop led to the purchase of his first store in San Rafael, now their flagship. Responding to customer demand, Rick thoughtfully expanded north, bringing Gold Rush's exceptional service closer to home
The beauty of having a local Gold Rush? You don't need to travel to Marin! Their Rohnert Park team can access the inventory of all locations, bringing your desired piece right to your neighborhood. Gold Rush operates under a simple yet powerful mantra: they handle everything jewelryrelated From polishing and cutting to sizing and repairs, it's all done in-house Rick believes this ensures superior quality and faster turnaround times, keeping customers happy. If they can’t do it, it probably can’t be done.
Adding to their stellar reputation, all 28 Gold Rush employees are Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certified, demonstrating their commitment to expert service Impressively, Rick also boasts long-term staff, some with over 30 years of dedication! This wealth of experience ensures you ' re in the most capable hands.
So, what's new and exciting at Gold Rush? Lab-grown diamonds! Rick gave us the lowdown: scientifically, they are identical to earth-mined diamonds, sharing the same properties. The only difference lies in their formation process and the absence of inert gases found in mined diamonds. The appeal? Exceptional value and ethical sourcing, offering a brilliant alternative for today's conscious consumer. And who wants all those inert gases in your diamonds anyway?
Looking back, Gold Rush has a history of adapting. Starting with custom jewelry design and expanding to insurance replacements, they've always met customer needs. While the next big innovation is yet to be seen, Rick emphasizes the importance of staying ahead, with lab-grown diamonds currently leading the way.
