HEAD’S

Head’s Introduction It has been wonderful to see so many of the girls enjoying Roedean’s sports pitches and grounds in the sunshine this week. Amongst all of the weekly activities taking place, I am pleased that lots of girls have had the opportunity to represent the School at events and in the large number of sports fixtures this week, and also that even more girls are choosing to brave the chilly waters of the sea early in the morning at our sea-swimming club. Now that term is fully underway, our work with our partner schools has begun again this week. I attended a meeting at St Mark’s Primary, in which we discussed the impressive range of activities bringing St Mark’s pupils and ours together, and more importantly the potentially life-changing impact this partnership is having on both. I am very grateful to all the girls involved with St

Mark’s, and also to Mr Wilson and Mrs Pittingale for their hard work in setting up and maintaining these activities. We have also enjoyed working in partnership with Deepdene Prep School in Hove and are facilitating meetings between the staff at Deepdene and St Mark’s to share good practice. Yesterday, we held a very successful event in London for the Heads of Prep Schools. A number of students and members of staff attended the event to represent the School, and I was incredibly proud to hear them sharing their thoughts and experiences so eloquently. The students’ passion for learning and their commitment to make the most of every opportunity on offer really shone through, but it was also their self-confidence, generosity of spirit and optimism that our guests commented on. It was wonderful that three of our
Ambassadors were also present: Helen RichardsonWalsh, one of our Sports Ambassadors, has already been coaching at Roedean this term and is also coming to lead workshops on mental resilience on Monday; Dr Suzie Imber will be at Roedean for our STEM festival in early October; and Anabela Chan OR, our Creative Arts Ambassador, will be coming to Roedean next term. All three are wonderful rolemodels for the School in different fields, and they all spoke about how excited they are to share their experiences and expertise with the students. Good luck to the GCSE Geographers who have a residential fieldwork trip this weekend, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend, and a great week to come.
