B R I A E L E N A : B R I A E L E N A :

Twenty-one year old Bria Elena has a heart for creating music. The Philadelphia native draws inspiration from her hometown and her life experiences. She recently released her first single, "Hotel."

Bria describes her music and the process of releasing her first single: How would you describe "Hotel"?

"Hotel" is an assemblage of a number of things. I would say it has a pop-country component but it also has a conventional country feeling with the guitar and the pedal, but it also pulls in a folksy singer/songwriter element It blends a sundry of sonic landscapes coupled with lyricism depicting tangible items that describe how the girl feels she is being treated but also desperately craves being those things to get closer to the person she loves, but cannot seem to reciprocate that love permanently It has a lot of sad undertones but the narrator is also very aware of his/her place in their temporary fling's life. I am really glad that this is my introductory song and is now running around outside of me

What is something you learned while recording your first single?

I learned recording "Hotel" that I always have a say over how I want my music to turn out. At the end of the day, it's my musical creation, and I love being able to enlist some really talented people to help bring my ideas to life

What has influenced your songwriting the most?

People! I feel like that is such a cliché answer, but I draw a lot of inspiration from talking to people and learning about people's

stories and perspectives, watching movies, reading books, reading poetry, etc. I'm a big fan of the arts and gather a lot of influence from all different walks of life. Exposing myself to situations I typically am not in, or discovering new genres of music or film, opens up a world of creativity for me I don't feel as if my life is that interesting, and I don't have a lot to complain about, so I feel like people would be bored if I wrote more personally I will definitely have more material coming up that's more autobiographical, which I'm excited about as well as nervous about Where did your love of music come from? Definitely from inside the home! My dad is a big music lover and always had music

playing of some sort throughout the home He introduced me to the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Shania Twain, The Sound of Music, etc., and we even discovered our newer interest of contemporary country together! I also turned to music a lot in school when I was having a hard time and allotted a lot of time to discovering new music. What's next for you?

Writing, writing, and more writing! I am focusing on expanding and building my craft and taking my time making a product that I really love and that I'm really confident in Keep up with Bria Elena on Instagram @BriaElenaMusic and stream "Hotel" wherever music is available.

Ella Ruby is an artist in every form of the word. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington, grew up a vocalist, and some of her earliest performances were in Seattle Opera's Carmen and La Boheme. She began playing the guitar and writing her own songs in 2017 After graduating high school, she joined Pomona College's choir and glee club - finding time between studying ancient history to fuel her artistic ambitions And now, in 2022, she is releasing her first original musical work.

From her upcoming debut EP, baby blue, Ruby released the single "baths" on April 12 The indie-folk song addresses Ella's relationship to her body, childhood, and the notion that we all exist alongside all the past and future versions of ourselves.

Ella's work as a ceramic artist often mirrors and influences her songwriting. Her Instagram points to how her clay art helps shape her songwriting, as can be seen in the below post showcasing one person laying on another with the caption, "finding joy in the way my clay practice influences my songwriting practice (and vice-versa) - never one without the other!"

Her sound is inspired and emulates the work of Billie Marten, Brandi Carlile, Julie Byrne, and Shannon Lay

Ella describes her music and growing as an artist:

How would you describe your music and sound?

I would describe my music and sound as simple, lyric-centered, and vibrant indie-folk

I also think of it as luxurious and peaceful, relaxing into the shape of words and the

honest experiences they describe.

There's a lot of innocence in my songwriting, both because I've never really approached it in a formal way and also because, at its root, my music has always felt like something that just has to happen: it's a way of understanding an experience I can't make sense of, a feeling I'm having difficulty embodying, or the twining threads of a relationship that can only be unraveled with song My music is necessary to me And, I

hope, comforting and relatable for those who listen

What drew you to release "baths" as your first single?

"baths" is the youngest (and oldest!) song on my EP. I often think about it as the most childlike, and it's actually one of the first songs I ever wrote It's full of longing for simplicity and ease, and as the song unfurls, it seems to struggle against the pressure to be anything that it's not. As time has gone on, its meaning has shifted and grown for me. When I wrote "baths," I was dealing with some health challenges and grappling with how they would impact my relationship with myself and with others As I've moved past time in my life, I've started to see "baths" as a song sung to my younger self, and I cherish the innocence of the lyrics. In my mind, it almost says, "I see you. I hear you. And I'll hold you as long as you need to be held " As I set out on the journey of sharing my music with audiences more broadly, I hope that that message will cradle me and my listeners.

How will "baths" fit with the sound of your debut EP baby blue?

"baths" fits almost perfectly in the middle of the sonic landscape of the rest of the EP It hints at some of the darkness of the other songs – of the collapse of childhood innocence and the longing for things that will never be – while showcasing the more gentle acoustic feel of some of the other songs in the collection It also really reflects how the recording process developed my sound (which is innately acoustic, usually just me and my guitar) – "baths" is probably the most simple song on the EP, but already it begins to build upon that acoustic structure The other songs on the EP feature a fuller landscape, also with production by Jon O'Brien, guitar and bass by Eric Cannata, vocals and piano from Gal Musette, drums from Kevin Farzad, and strings from Via Mardot.

"baths" draws inspiration from your childhood. What would your childhood self think of "baths" as your first single release?

Oh, she would be so incredibly proud Thank you for asking that question. I honestly think that's what has pushed me to the point of sharing my music, thinking about how proud and excited little Ella would be

I've always dreamed about being a musician – when I was little, I used to sing

Before social media, concert promoters used letterpress posters to let town folk know a show was coming. While today you won't always find these posters hung around town, you will often find show-specific prints for sale at concert merch tables as a personalized memento to remember the night. These posters generally are the first items to sell out on a concert night, with sought-after posters selling for multiple times their original price at auctions and on eBay

Emily Sokolosky founded the letterpress printing company Base Camp Printing in 2016, bringing her love of the printing technique to her hometown of Charleston, WV While majoring in Graphic Design at West Virginia University, her professor, Joe Galbreath, introduced her to the university's collection of GramLee early American commercial wood engravings. WVU's GramLee collection is mainly made up of wood blocks that the S. George Company used in Wellsburg, WV, to print agricultural mill sack advertising art

"WVU has a collection of thousands of wood engravings used to print on sacks back in the 1800s. And it's my professor's job to oversee the collection. And so he's been archiving it and figuring out different ways to use it, and in my junior year, he gave a presentation to my class on how to use them I was just blown away, like, oh my gosh, this is letterpress, printmaking, and graphic design altogether," said Emily.

Emily saw the collection as an opportunity that helped influence her career path

"It was a light bulb moment for me, just like, how can I do this? I need to see more of this. And so I did. My professor set up an independent study for me, where I got to help him with his projects with that collection So I helped him print the blocks in black ink, scan them, and organize them in a digital archive And he's still working on that now. Because the collection is so big," said Emily.

During Emily's independent study, she also got to create her own prints with the blocks

and learn the fundamentals of letterpress

"Letterpress is basically like a giant stamp. You set individual letters of movable type for your poster and then carve all of your imagery out of linoleum blocks Pretty much just like building a template for the final print Every poster is printed one at a time, one color at a time So you have to figure that out. If we're doing color separations, you have to think about it in a way that all of these pieces will make up a final image of the final product So it's a very manual, slow

Humble Quest details Maren Morris' search for love, family, and career success while building a treasure map of how she has found happiness in her life.

Humble Quest is the Texas-native's third major studio album release with Columbia Nashville, following 2016's Hero and 2019's Girl releases.

The album's lead single, "Circles Around This Town," details Morris' move to Nashville to pursue country music and the ups and downs she has found chasing her dreams in the music industry.

Morris met her husband, and one of the album's biggest muses, Ryan Hurd, during a 2013 writing session in Nashville They wrote "Last Turn Home" for Tim McGraw together And at 6'3", Hurd is undoubtedly the inspiration for the track "Tall Guys "

In 2020, Hurd and Morris welcomed their son, Hayes, who is featured on the album's track "Hummingbird."

"I wrote "Hummingbird" on the day I found out I was pregnant with Hayes By the time we were recording, he was talking so I got to record his sweet voice to add to the top of the track," Morris posted on Twitter.

Humble Quest is Morris' most mature album, and as an artist who has already found fame and success, she is now chasing something much more authentic Something more humble

"That’s why I wanted to name the album Humble Quest, because it was just such a humbling experience to make. I didn't want it to feel heavy I wanted it to sort of be this

antidote to this time. I hope it comes across that way because it brought me out of a very heavy place," said Morris

If you are looking for a love song, put on "Detour," a song to listen to with your friends, "Good Friends," a song to play on a long drive, "Detour," or a song that sets the tone of the album, "Humble Quest."

Just like Morris herself, Humble Quest does not disappoint
