DYNAMIC LAMBENCY

his kinetic art concept is to gives a peaceful mood and illuminates dark places under trees while simultaneously moving up and down as if floating over the ground. It uses the energy it collected during the day and could be mounted on any tree.

DRAFTING MEMORIAL GYM O

ver the course of an entire semester, the assignment was to hand draft a case study for the Memorial Gym on the University of Idaho campus. This entailed studying everything from measuring each and every wall, window, door, and ceiling height, to drafting the final rendering. I used the Floorplan-Elevation technique for drafting the final rendering and then lightly colored it using only Magenta, Canary Yellow, True Blue, and Black. The entire final render took approximately 11.5 hours to complete.

S

ince the location of the site is between two longitudinal traffic flows as well as the first structure supporting this movement, this building not only amplifies the lateral movement but also breaks it from a one dimensional line to a two dimensional plain. This tranformative shift is “required” in order to “find knowledge.”

West Section

TRANSFORMA Problem: Keeping the building movement consistent with the flow of traffic. Solution: Use the perpendicular axial orientation to only draw people into the structure. The path to the destinations however, follow the movement of the outside behavior.

MOSCOW

MOSQUE T

he site was a triangle for this project which presented a superb opportunity and I took it. Using classical methods of grids and geometry to map out the mosque, and reinterpret it with a modern twist, the result was an elegantly beautiful structure that accented the triangular shape. The main sanctuary used two colliding grids, one due East and West, and the other oriented towards the city of Mecca

BREATHING GARAGE

he premise for this project was to take an ugly existing structure in downtown Moscow, and transform it into something more beautiful. This is a parking garage for the doctors and patients in Moscow. The original building was a shed with metal panels and a dark interior. I drew my inspiration from the shapes and patterns of human lungs and expressively integrated it the new facade. The material was to be a rusted colored iron or steel welded to the original framework of the building. This solution makes the structure more appealing for the patrons that use it as the structure seems to be breathing in and out vehicles.

CURIOUS EDUCATION T

he Montessori system consists of Multi-aged Grouping, The 3-Hour Work Period, Observation, and Independence. Montessori also tries to connect nature with the children and vice versa. The site location is a problematic situation since it is located on the main highway towards Lewiston, Idaho. There is constant traffic with an environment of asphalt. The solution was to create a contextual reference to the surrounding urban energy and hybridizing it with something the children could explore and practice their individuality. Along with this, there are spaces that are made specifically for the children such as a underground tunnel that leads from the classroom to the gathering space, or the sublime main lobby with hanging abstract sculptural forms that inspire imagination. Finally, there is an entire green roof system with a life sized chess set where the children can play, read, and discuss the information they are learning at the time.

Lack of Nature - The Montessori system believes heavily in connecting the children with nature. Being the nature of the site is in an urban context, nature is almost nonexistent.

Heavy Traffic - The site location is at the corner of an constantly busy intersection. This presents a danger to the children.
