It’s Been Great Run
Tuesday night was the end of era for the Lady Mustangs, there will no longer be a Skelton girl on the home court. Basketball began for the
Skelton family when an independent girls team was formed for 7-year-olds in 1988. The team, started by
Laquita Johnson and assisted by Lou Janda, learned the basics of split-court (6-on-6) basketball.
Amber joined the team with many of her classmates and thus began a very long and successful basketball run
The Skelton sisters have been stars on the AHS basketball court for the past 20+ years. Pictured (left to right) are Lacey Wofford, Amber Skelton, Beyla Skelton holding 11-month old Tinsley Wofford, and Lorissa King.

which ended Tuesday with Beyla’s 13-points and 11 rebounds over the Bowleg Bisons. As daughter #1 progressed from the independent league to school teams, from 5th & 6th grade thru her senior year, she was followed in succession by sisters Lacey, Lorissa and Beyla. Amber, who graduated in 1999, wore 00 for the Lady Mustangs; after that the sisters started another tradition with all three wearing the number 12: Lacey, a 2003 graduate and member of the state tournament qualifying team her senior year, Lorissa, Class of 2008, and Beyla, who will graduate this year with the Class of 2013. From the start of the 199596 season, there has been only one year, between Lorissa and Beyla, that there wasn’t one of the girls on the varsity team and that year Beyla was putting the Skelton mark on the Junior High team. Congratulation to Larry and Rhonda Skelton and thanks for your contribution to the AHS Lady Mustangs. Your girls have been a joy to watch but after 25 years of basketball, you deserve a break. Now we’re waiting for your 11-month old granddaughter, Tinsley Wofford, to carry on the family tradition.
