Mission Statement

As a Roman Catholic school, Rice Memorial High School exists to guide its students towards the realization of their God-given potential. Rice teaches students to recognize and develop their gifts by inspiring them to love learning, to serve others and to seek God through Jesus Christ and his Church.

Profile of Rice Memorial High School

Founded: 1918 | Type of School: Catholic college preparatory

2021-2022

Tuition: $11,800

Dr. Andrew Keough

As students' laughter fills the halls, I reflect on how blessed I am to be part of the Rice community and to call Rice my home. While I was not here this past year, I do know that Rice was blessed to have reached significant milestones including the debt reduction, establishment of the Student Life Fund, and the Rice Teaches Excellence Fund.

The Fall of 2021 began with the tremendous news that a group of generous donors met the challenge and eliminated Rice's $4.2M debt and successfully completed the debt goal of the "Investing in Our Legacy" Capital Campaign.

The momentum continued and mid-year, through the vision and generosity of donors, the Student Life Fund was created. This fund is available to students and teachers to enhance and support student life, academics and experiential learning at Rice. We are already seeing an impact on student life and their experiences at Rice.

Also through the generosity of a group of donors, the Rice Teaches Excellence Fund was established. It has a two-fold purpose; to increase compensation of our teachers and guidance staff; and to provide for continuing education and training. This fund is intended to bring the faculty salaries to be on par with or above the current Chittenden County teacher market rate.

This is but a small sample of the incredible impact that our Rice community has made to ensure our students have the best Catholic education.

I am so grateful for all who contribute to our Rice, whether it's praying at our Mass, writing a check, volunteering or sharing good news, it inspires me and makes me look forward to an incredible year at Rice! Great things are on the horizon!

Many thanks for your support of all things Rice!

Rice's SAT scores are higher than the state average. Almost 90% of our students matriculate to a 4 year college. Rice students embody the pursuit of academic excellence. Rice's preparatory curriculum focuses on providing the skills necessary for students to be successful with the rigors of college. Rice has 16 honors classes and 16 AP classes. Rice is the only school in Chittenden County offering the prestigious Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma. This program fosters critical thinking and research skills that college admissions value.

"My teachers instilled in me lifelong passions for learning and broadened my horizons more than I ever imagined. I will never forget the relationships I forged with so many amazing educators who were invested in my success and made my experience unforgettable."

-Rice Alumni

E T O O T H E R S

Students at Rice are required to perform over 80 hours of community service between their freshman and senior year.

By placing the needs of others ahead of themselves, students develop valuable experience and learn immeasurable lessons about their place in the world. Our Campus Ministry office facilitates much of this service activity, providing opportunities for community involvement at COTS, King Street Youth Center, the Special Olympics and their family parishes.

F A I T H

Rice's students and their families embrace our mission to love learning, seek God and to serve others. It is weaved into every aspect of life at Rice and reflected in the character our students develop and how they carry themselves inside and outside of school.

Our foundation is built on kindness, respect and trust. Each day begins with a moment of silence, a reading from the Bible and Rice's mission prayer. School wide Masses are held monthly. In keeping with the importance of faith, students are required to take religion classes every year they are enrolled at Rice.

C O M M U N I T Y

Rice offers a nurturing and caring learning environment where students make connections that last a lifetime. Stunt Nite is just one example of how students leave the classroom and collaborate with the community. At Rice, community is a way of life. With 400 students -- nearly 1/3 the size of most public local high schools -- a sense of belonging is established quickly. Small classes allow teachers an opportunity to really know their students.

"Rice's community is its greatest strength, from faculty and staff to fellow students and alumni. I had amazing teachers who encouraged me at every step of my journey through Rice, and who fostered a close-knit community in the classrooms. Rice is a place that fosters kindness and service towards others."

the rice-cathedral fund

Like all private schools and colleges, tuition does not cover the total cost to educate each student. To keep Rice affordable, we discount tuition by 30% for all students. The RiceCathedral Fund helps close this funding gap and supports every aspect of the Rice experience. In addition to bridging this gap, this fund helps provide tuition assistance to qualifying families. Consistently, over 40% of Rice students qualify for aid.
