Samuel Lee Rice Sr, affectionately known as "Moon", was born May5,1934.Hewasalovinghusband,devotedfather,cherished grandfather,anddearfriendtomany.
HewasthefourthofsevensiblingsborntothelateThomasand NellieRice.HegrewupinWoodruff,SC,whereheacceptedChrist atanearlyage.Attheageofeighteenyearsold,Samueljourneyed from Spartanburg, SC to establish residence in Washington, D.C. wherehemettheloveofhislifeafterashortcourtshiptheywere unitedinholymatrimonyonJune20,1959.
JoanneRiceprecededhimindeathonMarch24,2012.Theywerea loving and joyful couple who were blessed to share 53 years together.
From this union there were five children. Samuel joined Unity BaptistChurchwherehewasontheDeaconBoardformanyyears. Samuellovedtalkingaboutwhatagreatlifehelived.Heenjoyed every part of it from being raised in South Carolina, working constructionanddrivinghiscab.Samuellovedmakinghismorning runtoBojanglesuntiltheyclosed.Howeverthatdidn'tstophim,he foundanotherbreakfastspace,McDonald’s.Hewaspleased,happy withallofthethingshedidinlife.
And he was filled with joy knowing he had no regrets in life. Samuelalwayssatonthefrontporchofhishomeonhisswingor rocking chair where he would talk with everyone he saw just about.Everyonewenttohim,justtotalkandhearhisvoiceandto hearhimreminisceonhislife.
Samuel leaves to cherish his memories; three children, Larry Proctor(Coretha),ValerieRice(PaulNeal,)AnthonyRice,Kenneth Rice(Stephanie);onebrother,Eulis(JanieBell)RiceofWoodruff, SC;twosisters,Connie(Belton)LaneofReidville,SCandLisaRice ofSpartanburg,SC;10grandchildren,20great-greatgrandson,and ahostofnieces,nephews,relativesandfriends.
Samualwasprecededindeathbyhisparents,Mr.Thomas(father) and Nellie Rice (mother) one daughter, Centra Rice, two sons, TorriasRiceandSamuelLeeRice,Jr.
