RAIDER ROUNDUP Exceptional Raiders - Individual Year-End Honors
Chris Markuson
For the eighth time in eight years, the Raider men’s volleyball team finished first in the GNAC in the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The team reached the finals before losing a fiveset match (13-15 set 5) to Lasell College. Senior Chris Markuson (Cupertino, Calif.) finished his career as the GNAC Player of the Year and the Rivier Athlete of the Year. Markuson was named Rookie of the Year his freshman year and was selected to the GNAC All-Conference First Team each of his four years at Rivier. Sophomore setter Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) was selected to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team, and senior Matt Tutino (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team.
At the year-end awards ceremony, several Rivier student-athletes were recognized for their 2014-2015 achievements. Sophomores Nicole Scotti (Concord, N.H.), softball, and Adam Arkell (Dover, N.H.), baseball, were recognized as the 2015 Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Both had the highest cumulative GPA for a female and male student-athlete with at least sophomore status. Scotti is an English education major. Arkell is a homeland and international security major. (Hooksett, N.H.), men’s cross country and lacrosse, and Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.), women’s volleyball. Sophomores Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon Conn.) women’s volleyball and basketball, and Alex Armstrong (Wakefield, R.I.), men’s soccer, were selected for the Rivier Sportsmanship Award. Both are leaders on campus, in their sports, and in the classroom. Senior Awards were presented to these student-athletes in recognition of their contributions to Rivier on and off the playing fields and courts:

National College Athlete Honor Society—Chi Alpha Sigma Rivier University is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma. The honor society was founded to recognize student-athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or above in their junior and senior years. Chi Alpha Sigma’s purposes are to encourage and reward high academic scholarship of athletes at four-year accredited colleges and universities; to recognize outstanding academic achievement by intercollegiate varsity letter winners; to encourage good citizenship, moral character, and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics; to recognize and honor the individual athlete, her team sport, athletic department, and university; and to mentor and to provide leadership to other athletes.
