The Lana Santorelli Gallery had its Grand Opening reception on Saturday June 4th.

Hudson County Community College Foundation Prepares for Eighth Annual Golf Outing Proceeds from July 11 Event will be Dedicated to Scholarships and the College’s Growth

June 28, 2011, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College Foundation will hold its Eighth Annual Golf Outing on Monday, July 11, 2011.

HCCC Vice President for Development Joseph Sansone said the fundraising event will again take place at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.

“As a result of the economic changes in our country and our area, we have seen record increases in enrollment these past few years. We have also seen a greater increase in the number of students who are applying for — and who really need — financial assistance,” Mr. Sansone said.

The Golf Outing is one of four major fundraising efforts sponsored by the College’s Foundation each year. A continental breakfast precedes the outing’s shotgun start. There are refreshments on the course, followed by cocktails, a luncheon and awards. “Our Board of Directors have planned activities so both golfers and non-golfers will have a very enjoyable time,” Mr. Sansone stated.

This year’s event is being chaired by Richard Mackiewicz, Jr., and co-chaired by Michael Raimonde, Ron Schwarz and Philip Johnston. Sponsorship opportunities include “Hole” and “Cigar” sponsors to “Award” and “Tournament” sponsors with foursomes. Individuals may also attend as a Golfer, Lunch/Pool Guest and Lunch Guest.

Hudson County Community College Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 corporation giving tax-exempt status to contributors. The Foundation generates financial support to benefit deserving HCCC students by providing them with scholarships. Additionally, the Foundation provides seed money for the College’s physical expansion and for new programs and faculty development.

Since it was established in 1997, the Hudson County Community College Foundation has provided scholarships to more than 1,000 students.

The neighborhood is clean and pretty with a variety of restaurants if you have to eat everyday. And though nothing is certain except death and taxes you can at least stick it to the big man since Motochanic will pick up your 7%. You’re on your own dealing with the grim reaper.

Fashionista Water Vitaminwater Flavors inspire Unique Fashions at Runway Competition in Hoboken

By Sally Deering Glaceau’s “vitaminwater zero” is a naturally sweetened bottled-water drink put out by Coca-Cola that’s nutrient enhanced, flavored with a mix of familiar and exotic fruits and branded with names like “Glow,” “Squeezed,” “Drive” and “XXX.” On a recent Wednesday evening, the National vitaminwater Color Collection Competition was held at the

W hotel in Hoboken where vitaminwater made a huge splash as the inspiration for five up-and-coming fashion designers who created couture dresses that exemplified their take on the flavors, tastes and vibrant colors of the vitaminwater line The New Jersey-based designers – Thomas Layone, Liz Fields, Devon Thomas, Ralph Thurin, and Elena Vasilevsky -- put on a beautiful show of dazzling, edgy, and elegant dresses, pantsuits and evening gowns – as they competed for a $1,000 prize and the chance to have their designs strut the runway at October’s New Jersey Fashion Week.

family and fans of the designers. Hosted by New Jersey Fashion Week founder Donnella Tilery of DC Showroom in Raritan, the show featured each designer who explained how a vitamanwater flavor inspired their designs and then a

parade of models hit the runway wearing a stunning display of eye-popping fashions.

Designer Liz Fields parlayed the colors of vitaminwater’s “Drive,” a blood-orange and mixed-berry drink into fiery orange cocktail

dress, orange satin evening gown, a frilly teal gown and a blue satin gown with shiny blue bangles.

Thonas Lavone told the audience “XXX” made with Acai berry, blueberry and pomegranate “rejuvenates and redefines the body and mind” and followed that with models dressed in a cranberry strapless flowery gown; a long black skirt with black and white, ruffled, off-the shoulder top; a floor-length pink slip dress with a black lace overlay; a blood orange dress with offthe-shoulder ruffles and a cranberry floor-length gown with a cascade of cranberrycolored feathers down the front.

Vitaminwater Fashion Show Cont’d from page 11 golden sunshine.” Vasilevsky’s models strutted down the runway in bright gold dresses that included a sassy ¾ dress layered in fringe that swayed with every step and a gold corseted- number with satin panels and spaghetti straps. Vasilevsky adorned many of her dresses with ropes of turquoise beads and feathers.

Vitaminwater’s “Glow” a mix of strawberry and guanabana fruits inspired designer Devon Thomas to create a line of originals in bright pinks and blues including a hot pink pant suit and floor length gown. Designer Ralph Thurin completed the runway show with his line of dresses inspired by vitaminwater’s lemonade flavored, “Squeezed” featuring a gown with pale yellow fabric petals cascading down the back and a dress with silver sequins and pale yellow removable skirt.

When the runway show ended, judges Toni-Ann Cerbo of the Jersey Journal, Carly Wikelius with WINK NYC Inc. and Laura P. Martin of NJ Press Media named Elena Vasilevsky and her “Energy” inspired sunburst designs the winner. Along with the $1,000 prize, Vasilevsky will be a featured designer at New Jersey Fashion Week in October.

Diamond Melendez of Solace Day Spa & Salon in Old Bridge agreed with the judges: “Elena had the most artistic line. It was more intricate with the beadwork.”

Joey Alvarez, also of Old Bridge, said “I thought her line was amazing, different and very edgy.”

Tiffany Slavin of Upper Saddle River thought the judges had to make a difficult decision.

“Overall I think every designer had something different to offer,” Slavin said, “but I was blown away by Liz Fields’ designs. They were different and cutting edge.

The detailing was amazing.”

But the best judges, were Vasilevsky’s models.

Cathy Walker of Paterson said she enjoyed wearing Vasilevsky’s gold fringed dress because: “It makes you feel lovely. Elena loves the body.”

The vitaminwater fashion competition offered a refreshing taste of what’s to come when New Jersey Fashion Week comes to the W hotel in Hoboken, Oct 9-13.

Rocking out in “SpecktruM” are three multi-talented Stevens Institute of Technology students which consists of Ben Clifford-Guitar (a recent graduate of Stevens), Nick Catania-Keyboard and Sax and Cliff Hults-Bass. Also in the band is the very talented Brady Cudmore known for his performances all over the country and Canada. Together the group of four formed a dynamic rock band with a strong bond of “friendship and love of music”.

The compilation of the four band members makes for a jam session like no other!

Leaving no stone unturned; the band is dedicated to revealing “different rock genres” that speak of guitars, drums, bass and sax. Coupled with amazing vocals this is sure to be a stellar performance! By Sally Deering Restaurateur Johnny Leung is a self-proclaimed “Foodie” who opened Komegashi on Montgomery Street near Exchange Place in Jersey City in 1990. He made a successful splash as the only fine-dining Japanese restaurant in town and in 2000, Leung opened Komegashi Too on the Jersey City Waterfront at a time when the waterfront had little to offer as a dining destination and there were few hi-rises beyond the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

As the waterfront developed, so did the restaurant’s cadre of devoted patrons, some who have eaten at Komegashi Too practically every day since it opened. On a recent Tuesday afternoon, Komegashi Too was packed, as usual, with patrons dining on exquisite Japanese dishes beautifully plated and popping with fantastic flavors.

“Here at Komegashi Too, the style is a little different from Komegashi on Montgomery Street,” Leung says, taking a break during the busy lunch service.

“We don’t want it to be the same. Here we have a bigger variety of choices, foods you don’t normally see on a Japanese menu, like Sea Bass from the Mediterranean.”

The full spectrum of music and individuality is what this band brings to the forefront. Earlier this year, SpecktruM was petitioned to create a song for the “Festival for Humanity.” The Festival for Humanity was created to celebrate “art and music.” The song was composed and

recorded by SpecktruM. It was produced by Musial and co-producer by Rob Harari. The song is entitled “Humanity” and is featured on the bands website at specktrumband.com.

All members of the band began as solo artists and each have impressive musical backgrounds. They are all vocalists and musicians and their multi-faceted backgrounds bring depth and intensity to their music.

SpecktruM has already begun composing and recording music for their new CD which is due out at the end of this year.

There are many events in the works for SpecktruM and by the looks of things their world premiere performance at the historic Maxwell’s is sure to make music history!
