Dear Neighbours

Thank you so much for subscribing to our editorial magazine! This is our newest way to connect with our River District community and showcase and appreciate the River District Living lifestyle that we are so lucky to enjoy here in our beautiful neighbourhood. This was intended to be a simple newsletter at first, but after receiving so much amazing content from our local contributors and friends of River District, a magazine was the only way to do it all justice. As you may know, this journey of creating River District Living has inspired me to become a licensed Real Estate professional. If you have questions about buying or selling a home in River District, or if you would like to be featured in future issues of River District Living Magazine, please get in touch with me.

Sincerely,

Love for River District

GARDENWORKS loves River District's dedication to sustainability and community integration! The focus on green spaces, support for local businesses, and commitment to environmental stewardship make us the perfect pair. River District embodies a vibrant and environmentally aware community that deeply connects with GARDENWORKS, and being just minutes away, we look forward to growing more together!

- Anastasia , GARDENWORKS

The River District is where our home studio is located, and I am always thrilled to hear about the new developments in the community. My favourite part is the walk along the river with my dog Maverick and enjoying the nature. In the past few years, I have lived here there have been many restaurants opening and new community forums established to create a sense of neighbourly peace and togetherness. Many of the restaurants have dog-friendly patios, my family’s favourite is Romer’s! We can spend hours there on the patio when the weather, company, and drinks hit right.

- Jorgina , Jorgie Apparel

The community in the River District is unreal. We love how you get to know your neighbours here and everything you need is just within walking distance Our favourite event is the Wesgroup Riverside Street Vibe Festival where local businesses have tents and there are many fun activities that are perfect for all ages.

- Jess & Andy , BAK’D Cookies

We really love the River District because it's beautifully located by the Fraser River trail. I love the feeling of community. People are so friendly too. Also, it has everything so it's very convenient. It has a bank, supermarket, gym, bubble tea shop, restaurants and bar, drug store, etc. all within walking distance so I love the convenience! Oh, and I LOVE the sunset view the most.

- Jina , Olivo Cafe

Since moving into the River District our lives have flourished; finding a pet-friendly community allowed us to add Snax to our family and through him we have made many close friendships. The neighbourhood continues to have a tight knit community feel despite how much it has grown. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and it feels great to be part of!

- Lindsay & Chris , Snax’s pawrents

I absolutely adore the walking path area in the River District.

The pathway, lined with beautiful diverse murals, adds charm. It's heartwarming to see people enjoying walks amidst my paintings, uniting the community in art and nature appreciation

- Hyerim , “A Bouquet” Muralist

Our favourite thing about River District is the community We love to connect with local individuals and small businesses! Not only is the community great, but the natural beauty of our area is an added bonus.

3 Things to Remember When Shopping for Patio Furniture

Style and Functionality:

Consider the style and ambiance you want to create in your outdoor area, whether it's a cozy lounge area, a formal dining space, or a casual gathering spot. Take into account the size and layout of your patio or deck when selecting furniture pieces. Modular seating arrangements or sectional sofas are versatile options that can be rearranged to fit different layouts and accommodate varying numbers of guests. If space is limited, consider foldable or stackable chairs and tables that can be easily stored when not in use.

Durability and Weather Resistance:

When shopping for outdoor patio furniture, durability and weather resistance should be at the forefront of your mind. We know it can be tempting to pick the most budget friendly option, however in the long run you may need to keep replacing it as it gets worn out. Your furniture will be subjected to various weather conditions, including sunlight, rain, wind, and snow. Good quality furniture is designed to last, no matter what the weather is like with a little bit of care of course! Our favourite Raincouver-friendly styles: The Coral Sofa, The Belize, St. Barts, Rico, & Kronos (West Coast Collection).

Comfort and Maintenance:

Comfort is paramount when it comes to outdoor furniture, especially if you plan to spend extended periods lounging or entertaining outdoors. Look for chairs with ergonomic designs and ample cushioning to ensure optimal comfort and support Test out seating options in person whenever possible to gauge the comfort level and suitability for your needs Additionally, consider the maintenance requirements of each furniture piece before making a purchase. Some styles require storing cushions indoors and covering the frame during off seasons, whereas our West Coast Collection can be left out year-round without a cover and requires incredibly low maintenance.

10 Tips for Your Starting Your Patio Container Garden

Following these container gardening tips will help you create a successful and visually appealing container garden for spring and summer! Adjust practices based on specific plant requirements and environmental conditions to optimize plant health and growth. Have any questions? Our plant experts are always here to help!

Determine Your Light Exposure: Assess the sunlight conditions (full sun, partial sun, shade) where your containers will be placed to choose suitable plants.

Choose Containers with Proper Drainage: Select containers with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging Use pot feet or saucers to allow excess water to drain freely.

Use Quality Container Soil: Use GARDENWORKS Planter Box Mix or a similar well-draining potting mix for optimal plant growth. Enhance soil with organic amendments like Sea Soil or Worm Castings to enrich nutrients.

Apply Flowering Fertilizer: Use a balanced flowering fertilizer such as the GARDENWORKS Flowering Plant Food 15-30-15 to promote blooms and healthy plant development.

Consider Mature Plant Size: Research the mature size of chosen plants to allow adequate space for growth within the containers.

Choose Plants Wisely: Select plants based on desired colour assortment or keep it simple with a cohesive colour scheme

Manage Watering Needs: Understand that containers dry out faster due to less soil volume and increased root growth. Water regularly, especially during warm summer months, with smaller containers potentially requiring daily watering.

Control Container Temperature: Avoid using dark-colored containers in hot areas as they can absorb more heat, leading to faster soil drying.

Watering Technique: Water plants early in the morning to minimize evaporation and reduce the risk of fungal issues on foliage.

Maintenance: Deadhead annual plants regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.

Snax is a well-known French Bulldog that lives in the River District. He was born on June 12, 2021, and has been a social guy since he was a puppy thanks to the welcoming community here.

He is full of energy and never fails to bring smiles to people's faces thanks to his outgoing personality, friendly nature, and playful wiggles. He is very eager to see his friends and always has a big smile for everyone he encounters. Don’t be surprised if you see him wiggling around on the sidewalk on a sunny day - that’s just Snax being his silly self!

Some of the things he loves the most are going for walks, seeing all his friends, and visiting his favorite neighbourhood spots: Bosley's, Starbucks, and Everything Wine. These establishments not only know him by name but also love to spoil him with treats and pets. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, showering Snax with love and affection.

Snax also loves adventures with friends along the river or at Everett Crowley on a nice day and, while he loves exploring new places, he’s equally content hanging out in the neighborhood and enjoying a pup cup with his besties.

Speaking of pup cups, he has yet to meet a treat he doesn't like. He loves all things food, and we love to highlight his love of 'snacks' through his collection of food related harnesses.

To know Snax is to love him His playful and energetic nature is simply irresistible. So, the next time you’re in River District, keep an eye out for Snax - he loves saying hi and making new friends!
