DESCRIPTION

Designing Home was the first exhibition to look at the contribution of Jewish designers, architects, patrons, and merchants in the creation of a distinctly modern American domestic landscape. The exhibition examined the cultural context in which many Jewish émigré architects and designers from Europe in the 1930–40s were welcomed and embraced into the creative communities that sprang up around the US. The story told in this exhibition gave remarkable insight into Jewish assimilation into American society. My task was to create display cases and design the overall layout of the show, including the f loor plan, images, objects, and documents in the cases.

DESCRIPTION

The Art of Lexus celebrates the 25 th anniversary of Lexus. This book provides an overview of the past 25 years of Lexus history and how it has grown into a strong international brand. I was assigned to design this book with a fellow designer and coworker, Sasha Jotwani. The overall theme of the book and typeface selections were based on the previous volumne of The Art of Lexus and Lexus brand manual. The new design work is in the layout and graphic elements in the book.

Ileen Sheppard Gallagher (ISG Productions) produces memorable experiences and destinations that inspire and inform. Projects range from new museums, corporate attractions, and citywide film/media celebrations to exhibitions, special events, the organization of archives, and beyond. I was asked to re-design the new website for Ileen Sheppard Gallagher, giving it a clean and modern look with respondsive a responsive design for the mobile platform. The color magenta scheme and typeface selections are based on the works that ISG Productions had produced throughout the years, which are modern and yet colorful.

DESCRIPTION

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research was founded in Vilna, Poland, in 1925, and relocated to New York City in 1940 with the mission to study the thousand-year history of Jewish life in Eastern Europe and Russia in all its aspects: language, history, religion, folkways and material culture. YIVO wanted to re-design their branding, including their gallery space into a reception and educational area for visitors. My responsibility was space planning, the design of new funitures, display case (all made by Corian: Solid Surface) and signage.

DESCRIPTION

MAS Focus 2015 outlines the planning, policy, and civic engagement initiatives for the upcoming year. The brochure includes profiles of specific initiatives, details on the signature awards and events, and the MAS Watchlist. MAS wanted to update their branding identity. I had the chance to design MAS Focus 2015 brochure using the new typeface selected by Pure+Applied. Overall color scheme came from the current MAS identity which uses the yellow rectangle bar as the main graphic elements and the diagonal pattern to indicated the main section of the brochure.

DESCRIPTION

Through never-before displayed original documents, artefacts, photographs, Lincoln’s own writings, and first person accounts primarily from the Shapell Manuscript Collection, the exhibition traced events in Lincoln’s life through the lens of his Jewish contemporaries, such as Abraham Jonas, who became Lincoln’s political strategist and “most valued friend,” and Issachar Zacharie, his enigmatic confidant. I was worked on this ex hibition w ith a fellow designer, Lindsay Farrell. Our responsibilities were to create display cases based on the historical tables that Lincoln used and design the overall layout of the show, including the f loor plan, images, objects, and documents in the cases.

Abraham Jonas was the first Jew whom President Lincoln appointed to a patronage position. Postmastering, a job Lincoln himself had held in New Salem, Illinois, before being admitted to the bar in Springfield, was coveted by politicians because it facilitated contacts with fellow citizens. Upon Jonas’s death, L incoln appointed Louisa Jonas, Abraham’s widow, to succeed her husband in the post. It was another sign of his respect for the Jonas family.
