The school Nurse is responsible for the assessment, treatment and referral of student injuries and illnesses that occur during the school day Teachers will be informed by the nurse of children with severe medical conditions If a student develops an acute illness during school hours,sendthemtotheNurse(studentsinEY1toGrade1shouldbeescortedbyanadult).The nursewillcontacttheparentsifnecessary.
Ifastudentisinjuredorunwell,theschoolnursewillbethepersontoadministerfirstaid.Ifthe student is unable to make it to the Clinic, the Nurse should be called to the incident They can be contacted on Teams, or on the Nurse mobile number if it is an emergency (Emergency Number for the Nurse – 056 511 6281) There are first aid kits placed around the school for the Nursestoaccess.ThesealsohavedetailsoftheNursesmobilenumbers.
Any blow to the head or neck must be taken very seriously and the nurse should be informedimmediately
EY and Grade 1 students should be accompanied by the LA to the Clinic It is the adult’s responsibilitytoensurethatthecorrectclass,studentnameandreasonforclinicvisithave beengiventothenurses.
FromGrade2upwards,studentsareallowedtovisittheClinicunattended.Studentsshould getaClinicPassfromtheirteacher
If the Nurse recommends for the child to go home, they will call the parents and arrange this Students will be kept at the Clinic until the parents arrive to collect. The Nurses will send an email to the Front Desk, Security and the homeroom teacher to notify them of this. They will receiveamedicalsliptoallowthemtoleaveschoolearly
