First Day of Term 2 2023-2024

It’s so nice to start off the new year with a smile.

From the Office of the Principal

FROM MS. NICOLA

As an IB school, we are committed to providing our students with varied opportunities to connect, explore, create, innovate, collaborate, and inquire. This term has been no exception!

A highlight of Term 2 was our Grade 10 Personal Projects. These projects reflected our student’s ability to engage in self-directed inquiry within a global context. Their ability to think critically and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them was evident as they explained both the process and the product to an engaged audience. This experience is a step in preparing these students for the opportunities and challenges of life beyond KCC.

Another key opportunity this term was our Grade 9 and 10 Service as Action trip to Cambodia. These 26 students embodied the spirit of community engagement by making a positive difference in the lives of others. With this hands-on experience, our students applied their learning in a real-world situation, cultivating empathy, leadership, and a sense of social responsibility.

A group of MYP students travelled to Dubai for the MUN conference to discuss and raise awareness of global issues. Through activities like MUN, our students gain a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives and understand their ability to take action to promote intercultural understanding and respect.

On the creative front, our students showcased their talents in Performing Arts with our Primary production of “Pirates of the Curry Bean” and our Grade 9/10 production “Parker and the Sea”. These students captivated audiences with their singing, dancing, and acting. Through participation in arts-based activities, our students had the opportunity to develop skills and qualities such as creativity, resilience, and self-expression. It was lovely to be taken on a journey as the students told a story through performance.

Our dedicated Parent Team had a busy term organising events to bring our community together. Through their hard work and commitment, we had the opportunity to celebrate our different cultures at KCC during International Day. It was a special day with over 50 nationalities sharing their traditions, food, and music. The Parent Team also organised our KCC Bazaar which was a huge success and another opportunity to celebrate and connect. Thank you

From the Office of the Principal

to our Parent Team for all your hard work building our community at KCC.

The KCC Iftar also provided a wonderful opportunity to come together during the holy month of Ramadan. It was a time for us to gather, share delicious food, and connect with one another. This event celebrated the traditions and values of Ramadan and the importance of unity, empathy, and mutual respect within our school community. Thank you to the staff and parents who helped organise this.

Of course, there were many other amazing opportunities over the term. Activities like Sports Days and Stay and Plant sessions, ECPs, KCC Cobras, and Field Trips are happening all the time, contributing to an action-packed calendar. A huge thank you to our incredibly dedicated staff, who spend hours organising these opportunities for our learners. They are truly exceptional, and I can’t thank them enough for their commitment to making KCC an incredible school to be a part of.

We look forward to Term 3 and wish you all a happy Spring Break.

Ms. Nicola

For their unit of inquiry about how ‘humans alter the balance’ students inquired into how organisms in different parts of the aquatic biome adapted to their environments.

March Reading Month

It doesn’t matter what month it is, our students love to read!

From the Office of the Vice Principal

FROM MS. ANNA

Marhaba KCC Community,

As we approach the end of a term, it’s always lovely to take a moment to reflect and celebrate the incredible things that have happened. Even more so this term because it’s been a busier one than usual! What I love about KCC is how broad and balanced we are, and this term has truly reflected that. From academic achievements, to sporting to wins, to dance and music recitals, to out of school trips; this term has had it all!

The start of year saw our Grade 8s return to school still bursting with stories from their time in Kenya. The stories shared of cultural immersion and volunteer projects exemplified the courage they showed to explore and connect with communities beyond their own.

This community connection was also seen through our International Day where diversity was not just celebrated but wholeheartedly embraced! It was a vibrant celebration of cultures, languages, traditions and of course food. It’s moments like these that reinforce the value of community and our understanding of our global community.

Our performing arts enthusiasts showcased their talents in two captivating productions; “Parker and the Sea” and “Pirates of the Curry Bean”. These performances not only entertained but supported students to express themselves creatively on stage. As we look forward to Term 3 and the upcoming performances from our Grade 1 and EY2 students, we are filled with anticipation!

Our musicians continue to inspire us with their talents through mesmerising recitals and through participation in the Abu Dhabi Young Musician series. These performances not only showcase their musical skills but also reflect the dedication and courage required to perform in front of an audience.

We have also excelled in the sporting field this term where the KCC Cobras have take part in swim galas, ADISSA tournaments and the Tri-YAS, demonstrating

From the Office of the Vice Principal

not only their physical abilities but also their resilience and sportsmanship.

It would also be impossible not to mention our ADEK and NIM inspections. Although we do not yet have the outcome of these, as always, out students and teachers did us proud, showcasing the incredible learning and teaching on offer at KCC.

As we embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, let us continue to nurture the values of knowledge, courage and connection that define us as a school community.

Ramadan Kareem and Eid Mubarak for those who are celebrating. We wish you a wonderful and reflective time with your families over the Spring Break.

Ms. Anna
