EDITORIAL Dear All, Welcome to RIFF; R.E.D. INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL -dance-art-cinema-. This annual festival is celebrating its SIXTH EDITION this year. It was founded in July 2015 and is located on a farm overlooking Eina Lake, just outside Oslo. Surrounded by breathtaking Norwegian countryside. After a long year, where the COVID-19 situation is continuing, we are again celebrating RIFF in two versions: Digital, in our online RIFF Magazine, and in our venue: R.E.D. Residency Eina Danz from June 25th to July 3rd, 2021. Both versions will show all the 33 officially selected films. Digitally the films will be available for one month, from June 25th to July 25th, 2021.* We received a record amount of very good films this year. May this fact be due to the pandemic? Has this situation forced us to reflect, go deeper and refine our thoughts? And, may the situation provoke us to speak out through art: dance, literature, visual arts, film and music? Many people have experienced the necessity to use film as the preferred medium for expression, maybe because it has been available, or possibly because of our imposed solitude. The current global climate: Black Lives Matter, human right issues, war, and the climate crises, may also have been important factors that have challenged us to create work that pushes our limits, transcends, and tells stories that are more poignant, passionate, brutal, or true. These are the kind of films we have chosen, films that expand and challenge our minds. We have also chosen those films that appeal to our senses, our quest for beauty, physicality, rhythm and love. Furthermore, we chose films that reflect art, humanity, equality, urban madness, age and feminine perspectives. As well as films that reveal intense relationships, transgression of gender, originality, dance history and avant-garde. The official selection is a collection of films from all over the world, including four films from Norway, and consists of dance film, screendance, art film, short film, feature film and documentaries. Our international jury will choose the winners who will get a residency at R. E. D. in the near future. We’ll publish the results on our website by July 3rd. In addition to the film programs we offer a festival exhibition with painter Bjørnulf Dyrud, live dance performances, a performance lecture by the renowned Norwegian dance artist Cecilie Lindemann Steen, and a three days FLAC (Film Lab & Art Camp). The festival ends with the award ceremony and an Iranian Night with live music and dance. Followed by Knutepunkt Innlandet, an open air performance picnic with dancers from the whole county in a new collaboration with DansINN. R.E.D. (Residency Eina Danz), is an regional competence center for dance and an international, national and regional art and culture arena, running with a full year interdisciplinary residency program, and a production house for dance and film, open for various audiences. As the Hollywood sign was erected in Los Angeles in 1923, Einawood was founded during RIFF SECOND EDITION as a neighborhood where the motion picture industry is emerging. EINAWOOD sign was inaugurated in Eina, Norway, on July 20th, 2017. The event was led by Ella Fiskum, Yolanda M. Guadarrama and Madeline Wood, RIFF Team: director, curator and visual creator of the sign. It is a playful action, but also a reality, as everything can happen in the world of motion pictures. See the festival trailer HERE. Please, enjoy the festival and share moments of art with us!!!

KORESPONDANCE

FILM EDITING LABORATORY

We are honored to have a collaboration with KoresponDance, a festival produced by SE.STA, the Czech Center for choreographic development. RIFF SIXTH EDITION will screen the film-document of the following performance. www.korespondance.cz

FLAC (Film Lab & Art Camp) offers a complete mentored film editing laboratory open to dance artists, and others working within the fields of film, art or text, with Alline Almeida Lande. Alline, who is an award winning film editor trained at the Norwegian Film School in Lillehammer, Norway, will within 3 days guide the participants through film editing, dramaturgy, film language and process, from idea to finished film or sequence. • The aim of this workshop is to create awareness around available technical and creative tools, and to make the participants more familiar with the dramatic film language. • The participants will be taught and challenged to use some of the tools applicable in film to enhance the cinematic experience and make their film more appealing and accessible to a broader audience. • FLAC is for anyone who is interested in increasing their competence within the film medium, aiming to bridge the gap between the field of dance, art and cinema. The Laboratory will conclude in a screening and feedback session on the 30th of june.

40 min. 2020 PLI brings together 22 conference chairs, obsessive rhythm and one devoted man. On a small platform, Viktor Černický dives resolutely into the effort for indefinite construction, reconstruction and deconstruction of the Universe. The outcome is an intelligent and playful solo - a physical metaphor for endless human dynamics, patience and striving that turns even the most ordinary objects into incredible pieces of architecture. Following the baroque philosophy of Gottfried Willhelm Leibniz, PLI is an unpredictable and humorous performance where baroque robustness is replaced with spatial modesty and material minimalism.

By Alline Almeida Lande, moderated by Ella Fiskum June 28th-30th 2021.
