Service information Öhlins RXF36 Air and RXF34 Air Mountain bike forks FOR USE BY AUTHORIZED RETAILERS AND SERVICE CENTERS ONLY As part of a global corrective action plan, all RXF 36 and 34 Air Forks need to be re-worked as described below.
Description of concern The right-side top cap on some forks may not be adequately torqued which in some cases may lead to the top cap working itself free while riding. When this happens, the air cartridge may abruptly spring out of the stanchion tube causing a risk of injury to the rider.
Products affected All RXF36 Air and RXF34 Air forks of part number (replace x with any number): - FG341x 151x (RXF34 Air MY15) - FG361x 151x (RXF36 Air MY15) - FG361x 171x (RXF36 Air MY17) - FG361x 173x (RXF36 Air MY17) RXF 36 Coil Forks are not affected.
Needed materials and tools: -
6-point 28 mm socket (flat/ground or Öhlins PN: 18860-01) Torque wrench (32 Nm requirement) Degreaser or brake cleaner Blue Loctite 243 (Important!) Wooden torque rod (wooden broomstick, wooden dowel, wooden board, etc.) Cloth wipers Center punch tool

4. Remove the air spring top cap (right side) with a 6-point 28 mm socket Caution! Do not use a 12-point 28 mm socket: a 12point 28 mm socket increases the risk of damaging the anodized finish of the top cap. Caution! Do not use an adapter between wrench and socket, as this will increase the risk of damaging the anodized finish of the top cap. Important! Apply pressure on socket while unthreading. 5. Clean top cap threads (male and female) using a rag covered by degreaser or brake cleaner. Use a nylon bristled brush to remove any remaining residue from threads. Note: Do not use alcohol: alcohol reacts and causes damage to the seals Important! Make sure any old Loctite is removed

9. Torque top cap to 32 Nm with a 6-point 28 mm socket and torque wrench Caution! Do not use a 12-point 28 mm socket: a 12point 28 mm socket increases the risk of damaging the anodized finish of the top cap. Caution! Do not use an adapter between wrench and socket, as this will increase the risk of damaging the anodized finish of the top cap. Important! Apply pressure on socket while torqueing. 10. Wipe off eventual excessive Loctite 243 11. Mark the fork with a center punch indent on the opposite side of the serial number.
