SchoolS West Hempstead scHools The West Hempstead Union Free School District recognizes the unique value of each student. It is dedicated to the success of each student based on the highest standards of excellence in education. Each student will be challenged to achieve mastery in all subject areas in an educational atmosphere that strives to build positive self-esteem, mutual respect for others, and a life-long quest for learning. The legal name of this school district is the West Hempstead Union Free School District. The boundaries of the district have been set under state law. The State Education Department maintains a close check on standards and what has become state law through the mandates of our legislature. The state allows a local Board of Education to set whatever additional policies may be deemed necessary for the proper function of the District’s schools. The Board is comprised of seven public-spirited citizens who maintain residences within the District and who serve without financial compensation in the best interests of their community. Board members are elected to office for terms of three years and once a year the members of the Board elect a president and vice president to preside over their meetings. malverne scHools Consisting of two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, the Malverne Union Free School District has set stringent goals since it began as a single schoolhouse more than 160 years ago. Since then, Malverne has seen its school district grow in every aspect. High educational quality is a hallmark of the elementary schools.
