Amityville Village welcomes the holidays with Home Tour and tree lighting By CAROLYN JAMES cjames@liherald.com

Amityville welcomed the holiday season in style on Dec. 6, with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Holiday Home Tour — a tradition now in its 70th year. Sponsored by the Amityville Junior League, the tour began at 11 a.m., with crowds lining up to visit five homes across the village, each beautifully decorated for the season. This year’s featured homes included

the Graziano residence at 350 Grand Central Avenue, the Licari home at 274 Grand Central Avenue, the Ansanelli house at 9 Coles Avenue, the Giglio and Ehlers home at 47 West Lake Drive, and a home at 15 Farragut Place, opened for the event by owners Michele and John. To honor the milestone, the Junior League set up a historical display, complete with a commemorative cake marking 70 years of holiday cheer. Mary and Mark Costello of

Amityville were among the many who took the tour. In describing the homes, Mary said: “Every detail was considered and nothing was overlooked.” Dana Barry, who attended the event for the fourth year in a row, said the tour helps “get me into the spirit of Christmas.” Fellow attendees Luanne Littell and Margaret Pfeffer agreed. A special guest added even more sparkle to the day: Miss New York State Lauren Norris arrived via LIRR and took a

brief tour of the village before joining guests at the GiglioEhlers home. Norris posed for photos with excited children and warmly greeted visitors. “It’s lovely,” she said of the

village. Norris later joined the tree lighting ceremony, where she sang holiday songs and helped flip the switch to light the tree CONTINUED ON PAGE 10
