As of writing, the U.S. election campaign is entering its final days, with the outcome still far from certain, along with a great deal of drama. Based on such unpredictability south of the border, it brings me to wonder what effect the election of a new U.S. president will have on the economy in general and the meetings industry more specifically. While this industry has certainly bounced back from the early days of the Obama administration and the recession in 2008, I think it is safe to say we are on the cusp of many exciting and challenging developments over the next few years. The question is, how is your organization preparing to deal with the inevitable changes in technology, demographics and economic environment? It is with such important changes in mind that the team here at Mediaedge set out to produce our fall issue of CM&E magazine. Our goal from the outset was to provide an abundance of planning resources, insights and analyses to help planners from across Canada achieve success with events of all sizes. In this issue, you will find a superb editorial lineup from a dedicated team of industry experts covering the topics that mean the most to you, including: • Our cover story from Jennifer Glynn and Joe Nishi, who provide a behindthe-scenes look at the many key aspects and best practices of event site selection; • Ben Moorsom’s insightful column on leveraging the power of choice when planning corporate events; • John Santaferraro’s in-depth look at how analytics are helping to create more compelling and engaging meetings and conferences; • How organizations can select the best mobile app for their event goals; • Event catering ideas that exceed expectations; • The main areas to watch for minimizing risk when planning event; • And much more! Of course, be sure to check out CM&E’s annual Destination Planning Guide in this issue. It’s chock full of helpful information and details on some of Canada’s (and the world’s) hottest meeting destinations. Until next time, cheers and enjoy the issue!
