ART for art’s sake In other news from the High Street, reluctantly Sue Leigh will be closing ART for art’s sake at the end of November. The gallery has become very well established over the past five years, but it’s time for Sue to give up working full time and focus on her health. She says that as a Twyford resident, one of the best aspects of having the gallery has been getting to know so many lovely people within the village, and she will definitely miss the privilege of sharing the ups and downs of their lives. It will be business as usual at ART for art’s sake for the next few weeks before Sue starts the final sale of any remaining stock, fixtures and fittings, so do drop in for a chat. There’s still time to find that piece of art you’ve been meaning to buy, and maybe even to pick up a bargain. We wish Sue a happy and healthy retirement.

Twyford and Ruscombe twinning project Twyford Parish Council was approached by the town council of Cuincy last year to propose a twinning project. Cuincy is located in northern France, close to Lens and Lille. With around 7,000 residents, it is similar in size to Twyford. The parish council met with a number of interested parties and raised awareness in the community. It was agreed to express a serious interest in pursuing the twinning with Cuincy, and to include close neighbour Ruscombe in this association.

club, business or other group, please email twyfordtwinning@gmail.com stating the nature of your interest and your contact details. The twinning association would love to include a wider representation from the community. Allez!

Twyford bonfire and fireworks The annual bonfire and fireworks organised by Twyford and District Round Table will take place on Saturday 28 October on King George V Field. This year’s theme is Space! Advance tickets will cost £6 for adults, £3 for youth/seniors and £1 for under 12s. On the gate the entry fee will be £7, £4 and £1. Tickets will be available a couple of weeks before the event from Brightons newsagents and Hare Hatch Sheeplands. All money raised will go to local charities. Further details will be posted nearer the time on www.twyfordroundtable.org, on Twitter @TwyfordRT or on Facebook.

Cuincy is seeking a twinning relationship that would include regular cultural or sporting exchanges. The aim is to have something in place ready for the centenary celebrations in 2018 marking the end of the First World War. There is a British cemetery in Cuincy and others close by, for anyone interested in the history of WW1 and WW2. Twyford and Ruscombe offer a variety of sports clubs, societies and businesses which may be of interest to Cuincy and provide opportunities for exchanges and new friendships. We have clubs for football, table tennis, bowls, snooker and more as well as societies for music, theatre, horticulture and history among others – and of course Twyford Together. Any of these groups could benefit from being part of the twinning project. The Twyford Twinning Association has been established to take the project forward. The committee is in the process of setting a budget and making contact with groups who may be interested.
