Estimadas amigas y amigos,

Dear friends,

Para nadie es un misterio que la esperanza de vida ha aumentado en comparación a 50 años atrás, entre otros factores, gracias al desarrollo de los avances en medicina y ciencia. Esto ha permitido que nuestra sociedad y estilo de vida progresen. Por ejemplo: los adultos mayores están viviendo más, mejor y de manera más activa.

Given the huge advances in medicine and science over the past 50 years, it should come as no surprise that life expectancy around the world is steadily increasing. This has helped our society and way of life move forward in all areas. Senior citizens are now living more active, better and longer lives.

Actualmente, los chilenos mayores de 60 años representan el 19,3% de la población del país, cifra bastante superior a la que existía en 1990, cuando este segmento alcanzaba 9%.

Para 2035 se esperas que el grupo llegue a 25%, y a 31% en 2050.

Currently, Chileans over 60 make up around 19.3% of the country's population, a much larger figure than back in 1990, when it was around 9%. Experts forecast that this number will increase to 25% for 2035 and 31% for 2050.

Ante este escenario, y conscientes de que la tercera edad está compuesta por personas absolutamente capaces de ejercer diversas funciones en el ámbito laboral, SKY firmó un convenio de cooperación con la Confederación de la Producción y del Comercio (CPC) y el Servicio Nacional del Adulto Mayor (Senama), para ofrecer oportunidades laborales concretas y formales a adultos mayores, quienes muchas veces se ven enfrentados a la falta de oportunidades.

In light of this, and knowing that senior citizens are fully able to assume a diverse range of roles in the workplace, SKY has recently signed an agreement with the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC) and the National Service for Senior Citizens (SENAMA) to provide concrete, formal job opportunities for the elderly, who often struggle to find serious offers.

El desafío que tenemos como compañía es contribuir a mejorar la calidad de vida de nuestros adultos mayores y, como sociedad, comprometernos a que puedan vivir activos y continuar desplegando sus capacidades. En tal sentido, desde el sector privado tenemos una tremenda oportunidad para ser un aporte y generar iniciativas que propendan a un envejecimiento vital y saludable.

Our challenge as a company is to contribute towards improving the quality of life of our senior citizens and, as a society, to help them live an active life where they use their capabilities to the full. Una de las zonas menos visitadas en el parque, la Laguna Azul generalmente no es parte de los circuitos tradicionales y, por lo mismo, uno de sus mayores atractivos es la posibilidad de ver en solitario a los guanacos pastando junto a la laguna, con las famosas torres de granito al fondo.

el lugar donde se obtiene la postal más clásica de Torres del Paine. Por lo mismo, el sendero suele ser muy transitado, sobre todo en verano.

La Corporación Nacional Forestal (Conaf) es la encargada de la administración del parque y en su web oficial (parquetorresdelpaine.cl) encontrará información confiable y actualizada para planificar su visita. Con reportes diarios sobre las condiciones del parque y consejos, revisarla es la mejor manera de comenzar el viaje.

, is for Laguna Azul Laguna Azul is one of the least-visited parts of the park, as it is off the traditional tourist circuits and, as such, is perhaps the best place to find a little solitude in the company of grazing guanacos and the calm lagoon, with the imposing towers in the distance.

, is for the Base of the Towers Part of the famous "W" and "O" circuits, the Base of the Towers lookout point is by far and away the best photo opportunity in Torres del Paine.

Of course, the trail is often busy, especially in summer.

Junto al matorral preandino y al bosque magallánico, la estepa patagónica es parte de los tipos de vegetación

presentes en el parque. Sobre llanuras y mesetas en la zona, se caracteriza por los pastizales y los llamados “cojines de plantas”.

Con especies emblemáticas como el huemul y el puma, en el parque es fácil observar guanacos, cóndores y otras especies de aves, como el águila mora (también conocida como “águila chilena”) o el hermoso carpintero negro. Con más suerte, también se pueden ver zorros chilla y culpeos en estado salvaje.

Famoso por su imponente glaciar, el lago Grey también es una de las atracciones más accesibles del parque y, por lo mismo, una de las opciones más comunes entre quienes lo visitan por el día. Tras una breve caminata, es posible obtener la postal del lago con inmensos icebergs flotando.

De fácil acceso y ubicado en un lugar estratégico, ideal para explorar la zona, el Hotel Las Torres Patagonia (lastorres.com) es también el más tradicional del parque, gracias a su pasado de estancia y la cultura “baqueana” que aún se respira en el lugar.

En el Valle Francés, se trata de un punto estratégico para quienes recorren la llamada “W”. Abierto entre octubre y abril, es buen sitio para acampar por la belleza del lugar (no cuenta con servicios, solo baños).

El montañista inglés John Garner encontró en 1976 la forma de rodear por completo el macizo del Paine, por un paso que hoy lleva su nombre y que es, para muchos, la sección más dura y espectacular del Circuito Grande.

E, is for Evergreen Patagonia

The park spans three different ecoregions: the Magellan Forest, the pre-Andean scrubland and the Patagonian Steppe. Each has its own variation of plants and greenery, from dense woodland to wild moors.

, is for Fauna The most iconic species are the huemul (an elusive deer species) and the puma, but visitors can easily catch a glimpse of guanacos, condors and other birds such as the Chilean eagle and the Magellan woodpecker. With a touch of luck, wild chilla or culpeo foxes could also make an appearance.

, is for Lago Grey Famed for the mighty glacier that flows into it, Grey Lake is one of the most accessible attractions in the park and is a big hit with day visitors.

Following a short walk, you can get some fantastic photos of floating icebergs.

, is for Hotel Las Torres Easily accessible and strategically placed, the Hotel Las Torres Patagonia (lastorres. com) is also the most traditional lodging in the park, thanks to its history as a ranch house and “baqueana” culture, which can still be felt to this day.

de Otto , Nordenskjöld

Uno de los grandes exploradores polares de la historia, el sueco Otto Nordenskjöld fue –a comienzos del siglo pasado– uno de los primeros europeos que recorrió en profundidad la zona y, luego, se encargó de difundir su valor natural. En honor a él, uno de los lagos más grandes del parque lleva su apellido.

I, is for the Italian Camp

Deep in the French Valley, the Italian Camp is a strategic campsite on the "W" trail. It's open from October to April, and is a great place to drink in the park's beauty (although the only services here are restrooms).

J, is for John Garner

English mountaineer John Garner, in 1976, discovered the route around the Paine Massif via a pass that now bears his name. For many, it's the hardest and most amazing part of the "O".

Seeing spectacular landscapes from a different perspective is the big draw for kayak trips in

Rhea americana en lenguaje cientígfico, el ñandú es una de las especies de fauna más emblemáticas del parque. Parecidas a los avestruces, pero de menor tamaño, los ñandúes corren a hasta 70 kilómetros por hora y son fáciles de ver en el camino de entrada, cerca de la Portería Laguna Amarga.

, de La “O”

También conocido como circuito Grande o Completo, es la gran aventura outdoor del parque: casi 130 kilómetros, para recorrer entre ocho y diez días. Para caminar, sufrir a ratos y recordar el resto de la vida.

, de Puerto Natales

Puerta de entrada natural al parque, en los últimos años Puerto Natales se ha convertido en un destino en sí mismo, gracias a la aparición de hoteles y restoranes con propuestas que justifican quedarse, al menos, un par de noches en la ciudad.

, de Quebradas

Parte fundamental del paisaje en Torres del Paine, una serie de quebradas marcan las travesías por distintos senderos. La mayoría hay que atravesarlas a pie, pero algunas cuentan con espectaculares pasarelas colgantes (no aptas para quienes sufren de vértigo).

, de Refugios

Para quienes buscan más comodidad que la que ofrece una carpa, el parque cuenta con una decena de refugios para alojar, comer y abastecerse durante las excursiones. Para dormir es imprescindible reservar con anticipación (sobre todo en verano).

de Campamento , Serón

Solo quienes se animan a recorrer el Circuito Grande tienen la suerte de llegar a este campamento, para muchos, la bienvenida al lado más salvaje del parque. Desde aquí al siguiente refugio, el Dickson, hay unos 18 kilómetros de dura caminata.

L, is for Lago Pehoé

This is one of the most photogenic parts of Torres del Paine, and around the lake you'll find dozens of species of flora and fauna, as well as an almost unbeatable view of the Cuernos Massif. A must for budding photographers.

M, is for Maps

Before diving headfirst into an adventure, remember to get an upto-date map to help you plan. You can download updated and free maps from CONAF at parquetorresdelpaine.cl/es/mapa-oficial

, is for Otto Nordenskjöld One of the greatest polar explorers of all time, Otto Nordenskjöld, was –at the turn of the 20th century– among the first Europeans to explore the area of the park and to spread the news about its natural value. In his honour, one of the park's largest lakes bears his name.

, is for Ñandú Known to science as the Rhea americana, the ñandú is among the most iconic animals you can see in the park. They look like small ostriches and can reach speeds of up to 70km per hour. Keep an eye out for them on the way into the park, near the Laguna Amarga Gate.

O, is for the “O”

Also known as the "Big Circuit" or the "Full Circuit", this trail is the big outdoor adventure in the park: almost 130km over the course of eight to ten days. A difficult, at times painful, hike that you'll remember for the rest of your life.

P, is for Puerto Natales

The natural gateway to the Torres del Paine is now every bit a destination in its own right, thanks to the appearance of top-notch hotels and restaurants that will have you booking an extra couple of nights on your trip.

Q , is for Quebradas

A fundamental part of Torres del Paine are the series of canyons, or "quebradas", that populated the trails. Most have to be tackled on the ground, but some have spectacular hanging walkways, too (not recommended for the faint of heart).

R, is for Refuge

For anyone looking for more comfort than a tent, the park has a dozen or so lodges where you can seek refuge, eat and stock up for the trails. If you want to stay the night, booking in advance is a must (especially in summer).

S

, is for Serón Camp Only those who take on the "O" will be lucky enough to stay the night at what is, for many, the wildest campsite in the park. Between here to the next lodge, the Dickson, there are 18km of hard trekking.

, is for Trekking A paradise for hiking enthusiasts, Torres del Paine is a byword for trekking. There are trails for all tastes and physical abilities, running from simple two-hour round trips to excursions that last a couple of weeks.

U

, is for UNESCO Torres del Paine has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978, and is recognised the world over for its scientific importance and biodiversity.

The French Valley is one of the best options for people short on time who still want to enjoy the beauty of the park. This trail, part of the famous “W”, can be done in a day and offers up the best views of the Cuernos del Paine Massif, the Francés Glacier and Lake Skottsberg, among other landmarks.

Paraíso para los amantes de la vida al aire libre, Torres del Paine es sinónimo de trekking. Con senderos para todos los gustos y estados físicos, se pueden disfrutar desde sencillas caminatas de un par de horas hasta excursiones demandantes de un par de semanas.

El Valle Francés o del Francés es una de las mejores opciones para quienes tienen poco tiempo y quieren disfrutar la belleza del parque. En solo un día, este trekking (parte de la famosa “W”) brinda postales de los Cuernos del Paine, el glaciar Francés y el lago Skottsberg; entre otros hitos.

El famoso trekking “W” es el más popular, pues en cuatro o cinco jornadas ofrece el mejor resumen del parque.

De dificultad media, no requiere mayores conocimientos de montañismo

The world famous "W" is the most popular trail here, as in just four or five days, you can get up close to the park's most important sites. It's a mid-level trail, where no special skills are required, but you need a decent level of fitness and an outdoor spirit to withstand the potential heavy rain or +100km per hour winds.

X, is for Off Limits

Besides not leaving the clearly marked pedestrian areas of the park, and only trekking on the trails, there are other forbidden activities in Torres del Paine such as making fires (you have to take all your rubbish with you when you leave), smoking, bringing pets, swimming (in any lake, river or lagoon), and using drones and remote controlled devices.

E

n la zona centro-este del país, Pucallpa es reconocida en todo Perú como “la capital de Ucayali”. “Tierra roja”, en lengua quechua, antes de la llegada de los primeros misioneros franciscanos a la zona, los nativos vivían prácticamente aislados del resto del país, debido al difícil acceso a este paisaje marcado por ríos, lagunas, cataratas y una desbordante diversidad de flora y fauna. Por esas mismas razones, más de dos siglos más tarde, hoy se trata de un destino ideal para quienes buscan conocer paisajes marcados por la naturaleza salvaje de la selva.

Tras intentos fallidos por construir –a comienzos del siglo pasado– una vía férrea que uniera la zona con el 24

resto del país, Pucallpa empezó a adquirir su fisonomía actual de ciudad en 1945, cuando quedó conectada a la red nacional de carreteras. La obra dio un impulso a la economía local, pero las lluvias torrenciales provocaban socavones constantemente en la vía y, por esta razón, el propio río Ucayali se consolidó como principal vía de comunicación; convirtiendo a Pucallpa (después de Iquitos) en el segundo puerto fluvial más importante de la Amazonía peruana.

Así, por el río se transportan maderas, alimentos –pesca, ganadería, agricultura– que se producen en la selva, y cada vez más turistas, atraídos por una ciudad que se ha convertido en sinónimo de turismo ecológico.

Pucallpa, in central eastern Peru, is recognised throughout the country as “the capital of Ucayali”. The town’s name means “red earth” in Quechua, and for many years, before the arrival of Franciscan missionaries, the indigenous community lived in almost perfect isolation given the difficulty of access across rivers, lakes, waterfalls and a dense blanket of flora and fauna.

That’s why even now, over two centuries later, the city is a great destination for tourists looking for a truly wild experience.

Following two failed attempts -at the turn of the 20th century- to build a railroad linking the city to the rest of Peru, Pucallpa eventually began to take on the shape of a modern urban hub in 1945, when the highway finally arrived. The project gave a boost to the local economy, but torrential rain produced a persistent problem with sinkholes and landslides, meaning the River Ucayali itself became the main means of communication with the town, which led to the city becoming the second largest river port in the Amazon (after Iquitos).

Tan importante como el agua es un repelente para los mosquitos, pues en la selva la ley la imponen los insectos, los que suelen atacar en masa a quienes se olvidan del repelente en el hotel.

A solo 15 minutos del aeropuerto, el recorrido por el centro de la ciudad debe comenzar en la Plaza de Armas, para admirar el característico obelisco de 25 metros de altura, las fuentes ornamentales, esculturas y unas coloridas letras gigantes con el nombre de la ciudad: el lugar de las fotos. Al frente, además, encontrará la Catedral de Pucallpa, de estilo gótico y que se distingue por sus muros de vidrio y un imponente campanario. Cerca de ahí, además, visite la casa-museo de Agustín 26

Visitors should be aware that the tropical climate -with temperatures averaging around 26°C and peaking at 34°C- is felt much more keenly outside the city limits, in the jungle, so having plenty of drinking water on hand is vital. And just as important is a good supply of insect repellent, as this is the kingdom of the creepy crawlies, which can attack en masse any

unfortunate tourist who happens to have left the bug spray in the hotel.

Pucallpa city centre is just 15 minutes from the airport, and any walking tour should start at the Plaza de Armas and its iconic 25m obelisk, ornate fountains, sculptures and colourful giant lettering spelling out the name of the city: photo opportunities galore. What’s more, right on the square you’ll find Pucallpa Cathedral, a Gothicstyle building with glass walls and an imposing bell tower. And why not pay a visit to the nearby Agustín Rivas Vásquez house-museum (Jr. Tarapacá 861), to discover the life and works of this celebrated local artist, famous for his sculptures carved out of wood and roots salvaged from the jungle.

Just off the main square, visitors can pick up a souvenir or two at the local arts and crafts market, where artisans sell textiles, baskets and sculptures made from Amazonian wood, as well as fresh and exotic fruit juices including cocona, camucamu or aguaje: a bittersweet rainforest fruit that’s rich in vitamins and is said to have multiple health benefits. When it comes to eating, you’ll find the best lunches at restaurants such as Orlandos (Jirón Aguaytía 299) and Al Palo y la Parrilla (Av. Alfonso Ugarte Mz 142 Lt 9), which specialise in local dishes such as “juane de

Finalmente, nadie puede decir que conoce Pucallpa si no visitó la Laguna Yarinacocha. A 7 kilómetros del centro, la leyenda cuenta que la laguna es producto del amor de un hombre y una sirena, quien triste por no poder materializar su amor lloró hasta crear esta laguna de aguas tranquilas y tibias, ideales para la pesca, actividades deportivas –como kayak o esquí acuático– o simples paseos para observar aves exóticas y, con suerte, delfines de agua dulce.

Finally, you can’t say you’ve been to Pucallpa unless you visit Lake Yarinacocha. It’s about 7km from the city centre, and legend has it that it appeared as a result of the grief of a mermaid who was doomed to live apart from her soulmate, a human man. Her tears collected together in the warm waters of the lake, which are now mostly used for fishing and water sports such as kayaking or water-skiing. The lake is also a good spot for bird watching and, with a bit of luck, you might catch sight of some river dolphins.

n el sureño Estado de Santa Catarina, la ciudad-isla de Florianópolis –coloquialmente conocida tan solo como “Floripa”– es uno de los destinos de playas más famosos de Brasil. Favorito de turistas extranjeros, en especial de argentinos y chilenos; lo primero que hay que aclarar a quienes aún no la conocen es que se trata de una isla que ofrece más de 500 kilómetros de costa, razón por la cual hay que estudiar con anticipación las diferentes alternativas que ofrece, acorde a lo que cada cual busque en el viaje.

Por ejemplo, si usted es de los que les gusta recorrer y conocer al máximo un destino, quizá deba considerar el arriendo de un auto para viajar las largas distancias –hasta 50 kilómetros– que existen entre los distintos puntos de interés de la isla. Ahora, y para que después no diga que nadie se lo advirtió, en verano el tráfico es alto (debido a la gran cantidad de argentinos que llegan en auto), sobre todo en los trayectos que implican pasar por el centro de la ciudad, donde se concentra la actividad urbana.

A favourite among foreign tourists, especially Argentines and Chileans, the island boasts an awesome 500km or more of coastline, meaning it’s a good idea to swot up on the options that are best for you and what you want to get from your holiday.

For example, if you like to tour around and discover as much as possible about your destination, consider renting a car to cover the long distances -up to 50km- between the island’s main points of interest. Now, and so that you can’t say we didn’t warn you, traffic can be heavy in the summer months (given the large numbers of Argentines who drive to the island), especially when you need to cross town or go through livelier areas. Yes, that’s right, because Joaquina is perhaps the most popular destination in Brazil for young Argentines, who take over the beach in the summer months, partying until the wee hours in the many beachside bars.

That said, if you’re looking for a slightly more mature, and more exclusive, party atmosphere, try Jurerê: one of the chicest beaches in southern Brazil, and a haunt of celebrities (such as Giselle Bundchen) who can often be spotted in the hotels, stores, ice-cream parlours and restaurants. Bear in mind that the beach isn’t the best for swimming (the sea floor is quite irregular), but it’s just 10 minutes away from Praia do Forte: a 2km stretch of pink sands and gentle waves.

Wild Calm Florianópolis also has some of the best options for family trips, especially with small children, in the whole of Brazil. In the far

If that’s not your style, though, your best bet could be the south of the island and a quieter, more rural atmosphere.

Great examples can be found in Campeche and Armação. At just over 20km from the city centre, Armação is an old fishing village with a huge beach and calm waters, making it a safe option for kids and a nice spot to watch the fishing boats chugging into and out of the harbour. Not far from there, around 5 minutes’ walk, you’ll find Matadeiro: a beach with a surprisingly natural feel for Floripa, with a few good beach bars serving excellent caipirinhas and breaded squid and fried fish freshly plucked from the sea. What about the rest? There isn’t much else to do: just kick back and enjoy the afternoon staring out over the turquoise waters of Matadeiro.

e voy a relatar un gol, estoy postulando al CDF”, dice Julián Elfenbein (47) con ese tono suyo que siempre parece al borde de la risa, en medio de una breve pausa en las continuas grabaciones de Pasapalabra, éxito rotundo de la televisión chilena basado en un programa homónimo español, a su vez moldeado en el show británico The Alfabeth Game. Con voz impostada, como la de un clásico locutor de radio, Elfenbein se lanza fraseando veloz y vertiginoso un partido de fútbol imaginario en el cual menciona a Carlos Valencia, el productor del espacio de Chilevisión que originalmente tendría solo 13 capítulos a comienzos de 2018, para convertirse en un fenómeno de lunes a jueves en horario estelar durante este año.

Pasapalabra no solo es un éxito de audiencia, sino que trajo de regreso a la pantalla al animador y periodista tras salir de Televisión Nacional de Chile a fines de 2015. Elfenbein protagoniza uno de los regresos más épicos que recuerde la industria local en un medio donde prácticamente nadie se va por decisión propia, menos los rostros con décadas de trayectoria. Esos años fuera de la pantalla motivados, según cuenta, porque “tenía ganas de hacer otras cosas”, Elfenbein los dedicó a viajar a destinos exóticos como Vietnam y asumir rutinas como llevar a los hijos al colegio, sin dejar de hacer radio y las funciones como director creativo de su productora Chile Corto, dueña de una marca televisiva venerada y legendaria como Show de Goles. “Me llamaron para hacer varias cosas en televisión y las rechacé todas porque no me

“I’m going to commentate on it like it’s a goal, because I want to work at CDF (Chilean Football Channel)”, says Julián Elfenbein (47) in his characteristic half-joking tone. We have sat down to talk between takes on Pasapalabra, the smash hit Chilean game show based on a Spanish show of the same name that itself is based on the British programme The Alphabet Game. Elfenbein takes on the voice of a football commentator and dives headfirst into a lightning fast description of an imaginary football game, mentioning Carlos Valencia, the producer of Pasapalabra, which was only supposed to run for 13 shows in 2018, but has now dominated the airways from Monday to Thursday all year.

Pasapalabra isn’t just a hit in the ratings, however, but also marks a stunning return to form for the presenter and journalist who withdrew from the small screen and the TVN channel back in 2015. He has now made perhaps the most epic comeback in the history of Chilean television, especially as almost nobody leaves the industry here of their own accord, especially after decades in the business. Elfenbein says that his absence from the screen was down to the fact that he “wanted to do other things”, and as such he travelled to exotic destinations like Vietnam and got back into routines like taking his kids to school.

He never left the radio and carried on with his production company Chile Corto, which owns the legendary and highly successful Show de Goles. “They called me up

sentía preparado, no tenía ganas y no eran los programas adecuados hasta que apareció Pasapalabra. Es un equipo fantástico liderado por Carlos Valencia y estamos muy contentos de haber vuelto con ese proyecto”.

Según Wikipedia, Julián Elfenbein debutó en 1995 en Extra Jóvenes, un clásico de los años 80 y 90, donde por primera vez se hacía una televisión más relajada. El animador lo desmiente. Dice que su paso por el programa resultó fugaz. “Estaba estudiando, estuve un mes o dos a lo sumo. Soy un poco más joven que esa generación.

Mis comienzos fueron en Mega en un programa de juegos (Nintendomanía), pero mi partida está en Pase Lo Que Pase de TVN, en 1997”.

with plenty of offers for TV, but I rejected them all because I wasn’t quite ready or they weren’t the right programmes, and then along came Pasapalabra. We have a wonderful team with Carlos Valencia at the helm, and we’re overjoyed that this was our comeback show”.

According to Wikipedia, Julián Elfenbein debuted on TV in 1995 on Extra Jóvenes, an 80s and 90s classic, when TV was just becoming a bit more relaxed. He says that’s not quite true. His time on the show was apparently fleeting. “I was studying, and maybe spent at most two months on the show.

I’m a little younger than that generation. I would say my real beginnings were on the Mega channel with a show about computer games (Nintendomanía), but my big break was on Pase Lo Que Pase on TVN, in 1997”.

—OK, but your presenting style has always been very relaxed, and that comes from Extra Jóvenes.

—Of course. Because Pase Lo Que Pase was mainly presented by the team from Extra Jóvenes, with Felipe (Camiroaga) and that generation. The presenters, the journalists and the newsreaders were all doing bits and acting out. I would say my best lessons were during the early

Los animadores, los periodistas y los noteros hacíamos humor y personajes. Diría que mis maestros fueron en los comienzos de Pase Lo Que Pase Daniel Sagüés, como director; Felipe y la Karen (Doggenweiler). Yo los hacía reír a ellos, y luego se reía el público. Tiene que ver con eso.

I would make them laugh and the audience would laugh at that. That’s what it was all about.

Following years of success on popular Chilevisión programmes such as Fiebre de Baile, Primer Plano and Talento Chileno, TVN made a move in 2011 and took Julián to present Factor X. That year, following the plane crash near Juan Fernández Island that saw five members of the Buenos Días A Todos breakfast show lose their lives, including much-loved presenter Felipe Camiroaga, Elfenbein had to take over: —Obviously, I didn’t get the job under the best circumstances, but I had to knuckle down and help out the team, who were all grieving. I lost friends in that accident, too, so I did it as best I could. I presented

Ese año, tras el accidente aéreo de Juan Fernández en el que cinco miembros del matinal Buenos Días A Todos perdieron la vida, contando al animador Felipe Camiroaga, Elfenbein tuvo que asumir la conducción del programa: —Obviamente, la experiencia de llegada no fue la óptima, pero tenía que poner el hombro y ayudar al equipo que estaba sufriendo. Yo había perdido amigos también en ese accidente, por lo tanto, lo hice con todo el gusto.

Fueron seis años que estuve primero con la Carola (de Moras), después solo, luego con la Karen (Doggenweiler)”.

Entre programas y festivales, Julián Elfenbein suma 29 producciones como rostro, y dice no arrepentirse de ningún título de ese listado. “No, porque todas son experiencias súper positivas. Me ha tocado hacer montón de programas que le han gustado mucho a la gente”, dice.

—Pasapalabra se ha convertido en un fenómeno en un período difícil para la televisión abierta. ¿Cómo explicas este éxito?

—Porque es entretenido, familiar, muy sano, y se aprende. Le pongo toda la parte del show y del humor, qué se yo. Pero también es un programa interactivo que la gente juega en casa. Lo vas viendo y al mismo tiempo estás respondiendo. Esos programas se habían dejado de hacer.

Counting TV and festival appearances, Julián Elfenbein has presented 29 different shows, and says he doesn’t regret any of them. “No, because they were all very positive experiences for me. I’ve been fortunate enough to make a lot of shows that people liked”, he says.

—Pasapalabra has been a smash hit at a very difficult time for domestic TV. How would you explain that success?

—Because it’s fun, the whole family can watch, it’s played in good spirits, and people learn things. My job is to make it into a “show” and make it funny, you know? But it’s an interactive show that people can take part in from home. You watch it, but you’re always playing along. People weren’t making those shows anymore.

Despite Julián Elfenbein’s success, he is keenly aware that TV audiences have fallen to the point that last year Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, predicted the end of public TV in favour of a subscription-based paid model. He doesn’t, however, share the idea.

—I don’t think that will happen. It’s true that the number of people watching TV has fallen significantly, but that’s not because it’s public or not. It’s because the different platforms where you can watch TV these days are able to adapt very quickly. But on public TV you have a closeness, local news, local sport, local entertainment, and that’s irreplaceable. You can watch a series or a football game from anywhere in the world, but closeness is still what people want.

—In this age of fake news, how do you stay informed? What’s your radar like in that sense?

—I’m a little old fashioned. I still like to read the newspaper. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve liked to know what’s happening. I always did radio, with shows about information, current affairs and entertainment.

I don’t really have time now, but I do like to keep up to date. I use new platforms like social media, but I don’t have Twitter.

—No lo creo. Efectivamente, el consumo es mucho menor en televisión, pero no porque sea televisión abierta o no, creo que es porque las multiplataformas, las maneras de ver televisión, incluida la señal abierta, pueden ir variando y mutando. Pero la televisión local, la proximidad, las noticias locales, el deporte local, la entretención local, creo que no son reemplazables. Puedes ver una serie, un partido de fútbol de cualquier parte del mundo, pero la cercanía le sigue importando a la gente.

—En esta era de fake news, ¿cómo te informas?, ¿cómo funciona tu radar en esa área?

—Soy un poco a la antigua. Me sigue gustando leer el diario, de chico me ha gustado estar muy informado, saber lo que pasa. Siempre hice radio, programas informativos, de actualidad o de entretención. Ahora no tengo tiempo y no lo hago, pero estoy siempre metido, y ahora usando las plataformas nuevas, las redes sociales, aunque no tengo Twitter.

—¿Y por qué no tienes Twitter?

—Porque no me interesa. Es una plataforma que nunca me ha interesado y nunca tuve.

—Pero igual la lees.

—Lo leo, pero no participo porque siento que hay una responsabilidad ahí. Cuando uno se mete tiene que participar. Lo que sí tengo es Instagram hace un par de años. Lo encuentro bonito y ahí participo.

La salud es un tema permanente para el animador.

Padeció un tumor cerebral en 2004 y el año pasado fue víctima de un ataque cardiaco, la causa de muerte de su padre en 2010. A pesar de esos antecedentes, Julián Elfenbein se declara un optimista por naturaleza y reacio a la gente achacosa. “Siempre hay gente que la pasa peor que uno y si bien me han tocado hartos temas de salud y duros, la vida es así. Como decía la canción del Jappening, yo voy ‘con optimismo y fe’”.

—Why don’t you have Twitter?

—It just doesn’t interest me. I’ve never “got it”, and I don’t think I ever will.

—But you read what people say about you.

—Yes, but I don’t get involved, because there’s a lot of responsibility there. When you get involved, you have to participate.

I do have Instagram. I’ve had it for a few years. I think it’s a nice platform, and I do participate there.

Health is also a constant concern for Julián. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004, and last year had a heart attack, which had been the cause of his father’s death in 2010. Despite this history, Julián Elfenbein says he’s an optimist by nature and says he dislikes moaners.

“There’s always someone who’s had it worse than you, and although I’ve had my fair share of health issues, that’s life. It’s like the song on Jappening (a Chilean TV classic), I’m all about ‘optimism and faith’”.

na escuela de cocina, un restorán y un lugar de cenas pop-up; todo eso y más es Comedor Común, el nuevo espacio gastronómico de Providencia, que abrió hace tres meses en el barrio residencial de Pedro de Valdivia Norte.

de ahí su nombre. “Queremos que la gente vuelva a cocinar y compartir alrededor de una mesa, generar instancias en torno a la gastronomía y revalorar los productos locales que tenemos”, explica Vallarino.

Culto artesanal

Ubicado en un espacio de más de 100 metros cuadrados, el lugar fue remodelado por completo y hoy cuenta con dos salones: un taller donde chefs realizan clases de cocina y un comedor con capacidad para 24 personas, en donde de lunes a viernes ofrecen un menú de

A cookery school, a restaurant and a pop-up dinner venue: Comedor Común, a new culinary project in Providencia, is all this and more, and opened its doors just three months ago in the residential neighbourhood of Pedro de Valdivia Norte.

It’s owned by chef and businessman Andrés Vallarino -the man behind projects such as Hogs, La Superior and Bar Central-, who had the idea of creating a space where food would bring people together, hence the name (“Comedor Común” means shared table). “We want to get people cooking again and sharing experiences over the dinner table. We want to make memories through food and to renew the value of our local produce”, explains Vallarino.

Nos preocupamos de las técnicas y las capas de sabores”, dice Vallarino quien, junto a su equipo de cocineros, elabora

todas las salsas, conservas, caldos y encurtidos que utilizan para realzar cada preparación.

Pronto, dice el chef, esperan abrir los sábados, día que tendrán una carta más extensa –con preparaciones pensadas para el brunch–; y los viernes y sábados por la noche comenzarán a realizar cenas pop-up junto a cocineros locales de renombre.

Las clases de cocina se realizan al menos dos veces a la semana e incluyen temáticas variadas como pastas artesanales, conservas y fermentados. Algunos de los profesores son Helena Lee, quien enseñará a elaborar auténticas preparaciones coreanas; Carolina Contreras, de Colectivo Fermento, especialista en quesos artesanales en base a leche de vaca y cabra; Mariko Sano, experta en cocina japonesa; y Felipe Macera, quien desarrollará un taller de

Soon, says the chef, he hopes to open on Saturdays, when the menu will be larger –with a few brunch options–; as well as on Friday and Saturday nights for pop-up dinners with famous local chefs.

Get Cooking Again The cookery classes take place twice a week and are based around a range of themes such as handmade pastas, preserves and fermented products. Teachers include Helena Lee, who specialises in authentic Korean food; Carolina Contreras,

Renowned bartender Carla Gálvez stumbled into the world of cocktails almost by mistake. But she liked it so much, that she quit her job in finance and swapped the office for the bar.

She’s now one of the most highly respected bartenders in Santiago, and runs the lively Bar La Providencia, where she’s known for her creative and delicate cocktails made with locally grown fruits. Here, Gálvez explains why the fresh and fruity Spritz is one of her favourites.

“It’s not easy to choose a favourite cocktail, but if I have to, I think I’d go for the simple and refreshing Spritz, which is very popular as an aperitif in Italy. It’s made with an orange liqueur like Aperol, prosecco and soda water, and it’s known for its marked orange flavours and bitter finish.

I first tried one years ago, in a get-together with some friends, but the best I’ve ever had was definitely in Venice. Getting lost in that maze of alleyways, I came across a little local bar, they had this great improvised terrace area where I just sat back and sipped my Spritz as I watched the world go by. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

I think that for something to last over time, it has to have two key characteristics: simplicity and versatility. And this cocktail has both. I love it because it’s very easy to make -even for people who don’t know much about cocktails- and because it’s so adaptable: you can make it with friends at a house party, or just before lunch, or even when you’re on the beach or in the countryside.

Although I love the original recipe, all good bartenders need to innovate, so I made a more complicated version that blends typically Chilean and floral flavours. I call it the ‘Magnolia Spritz’, and it’s made with white tea syrup magnolia flowers and brown sugar”.

l mirador del pequeño cerro La Cruz es una visita obligada para cualquiera que visite Punta Arenas.

Desde allí se consigue una hermosa vista hacia la ciudad –probablemente, una de las más bonitas y ordenadas de Chile– y, por cierto, también hacia el Estrecho de Magallanes, emblema natural e histórico de la zona.

Si ha estado alguna vez allí, de seguro habrá visto una casona de fachada amarilla y techos rojos, con el dibujo de un caballo encima, que de inmediato resalta entre el resto. Es el hotel Yegua Loca, un alojamiento que funciona en una casa magallánica de 1929 que fue restaurada y que, tras su apertura oficial en marzo de

2015, se ha convertido en una de las alternativas boutique más destacadas de la ciudad.

“Lo que quisimos fue rescatar la identidad de las estancias de la Patagonia y de los antiguos galpones de esquila, y traer al presente toda la historia ganadera que forjó a esta región”, explica Paola Milosevic, dueña –junto a su marido, Sergio Solar, ambos ligados al rubro hotelero– de este pequeño hotel boutique cuyo nombre remite precisamente a ese patrimonio. Claro que, en rigor, lo de “Loca” tiene que ver también con lo particular de su diseño. “Debatimos bastante a la hora de elegir el nombre”, explica Milosevic, “pero la idea era que llamara la atención de inmediato, y que transmitiera a la gente que se trataba de algo entretenido y diferente”.

Lo diferente tiene que ver con el diseño: todo el hotel está decorado con piezas y objetos que aluden, de una u otra forma, a la historia de Magallanes. Paola Milosevic, de hecho, es hija de inmigrantes croatas y su marido también proviene de una familia ligada al campo. Además, ambos son aficionados a los caballos y a las carreras de enduro, así que, dicen, conocen bastante de cerca toda esta cultura. “Fuimos recolectando elementos antiguos como herraduras, rejas de fierro, monturas y muebles y las pusimos en valor. La idea es que cada uno de los objetos tengan un sentido y que los visitantes los aprecien por su belleza e historia”, dice Paola.

The lookout point at the top of Cerro La Cruz hill is a mandatory stop off for anyone visiting Punta Arenas. It provides the best panoramic views of the city -probably one of the prettiest and tidiest in Chileand of the Strait of Magellan, the area’s greatest natural landmark.

If you’ve ever been there, you’ll surely remember the yellow-walled, red-roofed house with a drawing of a horse on top, which clearly stands out from the rest.

That’s the Yegua Loca Hotel, which has been set up inside a restored 1929 townhouse and, since it opened in 2015, is one of the city’s best boutique accommodations.

“We wanted to revive that feel of a real Patagonian ranch, of the old shearing yards, and bring out all of the region’s cattle herding history”, explains Paola Milosevic, the owner –together with her husband, Sergio Solar, who are both hoteliers by trade– of this small boutique hotel whose name (“Yegua Loca” means wild mare) alludes to the region’s ranching past.

Of course, the “wild” part also alludes to 93

Todos los cuartos tienen vista, ya sea a la ciudad como al Estrecho de Magallanes y la isla de Tierra del Fuego, y cuentan con todas las comodidades, desde calefacción central 94

hasta detalles como unas zapatillas de lana tejidas a mano, típicas de la región. El hotel también tiene una pequeña pulpería, un homenaje a los antiguos almacenes de la zona, donde se venden distintos souvenirs.

El desayuno, incluido en la tarifa, es temático y a la carta. Hay uno que se llama “El Esquilador”, el cual trae una chuleta de cordero con porridge, alusivo al tradicional y fuerte desayuno de los arrieros, o uno más liviano, llamado “La Quinta”, que es como se les dice a las huertas en Magallanes, que incluye una omelette con verduras. Todos van acompañados con café o té, jugos, frutas y pan.

Yegua Loca además funciona como restorán y es uno de los mejores de la ciudad. Tiene dos espacios: uno en la casa misma, diseñado en torno a una clásica cocina magallánica, y otro ubicado en una terraza vidriada y calefaccionada, desde la cual se consiguen vistas panorámicas hacia el Estrecho. La carta busca rescatar las antiguas recetas de la zona, con platos como ñoquis a la croata, que llevan plateada y ciruelas; catuto de quínoa con centolla y preparaciones como el tradicional garrón de cordero o las chuletas mar y tierra, que se acompañan con una salsa de cochayuyo agridulce y puré rústico.

the hotel’s design. “We talked the name over for a long time”, says Milosevic, “but we wanted something that would immediately grab people’s attention, and that would highlight that what we are doing is something fun and different”.

The difference comes in the design: the whole hotel is decorated with objects and artefacts that somehow highlight the history of the Magallanes Region. Paola Milosevic herself is a second-generation Croat immigrant, while her husband is from a family deeply rooted in the countryside. Furthermore, both are horse lovers and enjoy endurance riding, so they know a thing or two about the culture. “We collected lots of bits and bobs like horseshoes, iron fence posts, saddles and furniture, and we turned them into objects of value. We wanted each one to have a reason for being in the hotel, and to help our guests better appreciate the beauty and history of the region”, says Paola.

Yegua Loca’s eight rooms -currently doubles and triples, with seven more to be inaugurated in October- are all different and have been given the names of people who would have worked on the old ranches. For example, there’s “El Herrero” (the blacksmith), where some smith’s tongs have been used to make a lamp and the bed frame is made of wrought iron; “La Pesebrera” (the stable girl), whose bathtub is made to look like an old-fashioned manger; or “La Arpillera” (the weaver), which is decorated with woollen designs.

All the rooms have a view, whether of the city or the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego, as well as other creature comforts such as central heating and even hand-woven woollen slippers, which are traditional in the region. The hotel also has a small store, decked out in the style of the Patagonian general stores of old, which sells beautiful souvenirs.

Breakfast is included in the price, is themed and is a la carte. One option is “El Esquilador” (the shearer), which is a lamb chop with porridge, the traditional sturdy breakfast of ranch hands, while a lighter option is “La Quinta” (a local term for kitchen gardens), which includes 95

a vegetable omelette. Each one is served with coffee or tea, juice, fruit and bread.

Yegua Loca also has one of the best restaurants in town. There are two main spaces: one in the house itself, decorated in the style of a traditional Patagonian kitchen, and one on a glass-roofed, heated terrace, which has unbeatable views of the Strait.

The menu seeks to highlight the region’s most famous dishes, too, and includes Croatian gnocchi, served with beef and plums; quinoa catuto with king crab, and more traditional options such as lamb shank or surf and turf chops, which are served with a sweet and sour seaweed sauce and rustic mashed potatoes.

ran Camino Inca” en lengua quechua, el Qhapaq Ñan es un complejo sistema vial de caminos –preincaicos e incaicos–, que los incas unificaron durante el siglo XV, en el esplendor político, militar y económico del imperio de Tahuantinsuyo. Parte de esa historia hoy se puede conocer en terreno, en la zona alta de la Región de Arica y Parinacota, gracias a la llamada “Ruta de la Sierra”: 11,6 kilómetros del mismísimo y legendario Qhapaq Ñan que hoy, reconocidos por Unesco, son parte de un proyecto que busca impulsar el desarrollo económico de la zona; promoviendo el turismo en alejadas y apacibles comunidades precordilleranas, como Socoroma y Zapahuira.

El mejor lugar para comenzar a descubrir esta ruta es Putre. El “próximo San Pedro de Atacama”, según muchos, la capital de la Provincia de Parinacota tiene atractivos turísticos de sobra, partiendo por su hermosa plaza. Ahí encontrará la Iglesia de San Idelfonso de Putre, de grandes muros de adobe y piedra, construida a fines del siglo XVII, y estrella del famoso grupo

EL ANTIGUO TAMBO DE ZAPAHUIRA –UTILIZADO COMO LUGAR DE DESCANSO POR LOS INCAS EN SUS VIAJES– ES UN VALIOSO COMPLEJO ARQUEOLÓGICO, DECLARADO MONUMENTO NACIONAL EN 1983 denominado “Iglesias del Altiplano”.

Más allá del templo, las calles empedradas de Putre y la arquitectura de casas con fachadas de adobe y barro justifican quedarse al menos un par de noches en el lugar; y quizá habría que pensar en una extra para aventurarse hacia hitos como el famoso lago Chungará: la mayor postal de toda esta región, coronado por el imponente volcán Parinacota –con su perfecto cono nevado– y rodeado por bofedales y fotogénicas lagunas altiplánicas.

Meaning “Great Inca Road” in the local Quechua language, Qhapaq Ñan is actually a complex network of trails –both pre-Inca and Inca–, which were unified by the Inca in the 15th century, during the political, military and economic dominance of the Tahuantinsuyo (as the Inca Empire was known locally). And you can discover part of that story for yourself in the Arica and Parinacota highlands thanks to the so-called “Sierra Trail”: 11.6km of the very same legendary Qhapaq Ñan, now recognised by UNESCO and part of a regional economic development project. The overall aim is to promote tourism in far-flung highland communities such as Socoroma and Zapahuira.

The best place to begin the trip is in Putre. Known as “the next San Pedro de Atacama”, the capital of Chile’s Parinacota Province has plenty of attractions to keep you busy, starting with the beautiful town square. Here you’ll find the church of San Idelfonso of Putre, which has high adobe and stone walls and was built at the end of 17th century. It’s the jewel in the crown of the so-called “High Plains Churches”.

Of course, the laid-back rhythm of life is also attraction enough, but the town’s adobe architecture is also fascinating.

What’s more, any stay will have to include a day for visiting the famous Lake Chungará: easily the most iconic photo-op in this part of Chile, crowned with imposing Parinacota volcano -and its perfectly snow-capped cone- and surrounded by wetlands and high-altitude lakes.

lentamente en Putre, sin embargo, en la última década ha visto la aparición de una decena de nuevos hospedajes y restoranes, además de operadores turísticos dedicados a mostrar atractivos como las termas de Jurasi, los petroglifos de Wilakahuranny o la Reserva Nacional Las Vicuñas, hábitat de suris, llamas, alpacas y zorros culpeos; además de la flora típica de la región, en la que destaca la llareta, la tola y la paja brava.

Un poco más lejos, desde Putre también vale la pena recorrer los 147 kilómetros de distancia que hay hasta el salar de Surire: una enorme laguna turquesa, situada a 4.200 metros de altura, donde viven, entre otras especies, tres tipos de flamenco –andinos, chilenos y jamesi– y que esconde una de las termas más salvajes de Chile, las de Polloquere, cuyas aguas alcanzan hasta 70 grados de temperatura.

De vuelta al Qhapaq Ñan, desde Putre la antigua ruta inca baja hacia Socoroma, poblado que parece detenido en el tiempo, famoso por sus terrazas cultivadas con orégano y alfalfa, y su antigua iglesia San Francisco de Asís, cuya historia se remonta al año 1560. Según los responsables de impulsar la ruta Qhapaq Ñan en la zona, Socoroma “presenta un emergente desarrollo de servicios turísticos”; cuestión que refleja en la reciente aparición de hostales y comedores.

Por último, el camino propuesto remata en Zapahuira. Punto estratégico en la zona desde hace siglos, el antiguo tambo –o parada de descanso para los incas– es un valioso complejo arqueológico compuesto por una hilera de recintos de piedras, 102

Junto a la Ruta Internacional 11-Ch, el sector también ha visto el desarrollo turístico en los últimos años, y el antiguo tambo ya cuenta con tres restoranes, un mini-market y un local de venta de souvenires, los que principalmente se dedican a atender a los turistas que viajan en buses y autos entre Arica y La Paz. decade has seen a steady increase in the number of hostels and restaurants in the town. There is no shortage of guides, who can take you out to attractions such as the Jurasi hot springs, the Wilakahuranny petroglyphs or the Las Vicuñas National Reserve. The latter is known as a great place to spot suris, llamas, alpacas and culpeo foxes, as well as plenty of local flora such as the llareta, tola and paja brava.

A little further afield, around 147km away, you can find the breathtaking Surire salt flats: a vast turquoise lake standing at 4,200m above sea level, which is a safe haven for wildlife such as Chile’s three flamingo species: the Andean, the Chilean and the James’s. It’s also where you’ll find the wildest hot springs in the country at Polloquere, whose waters can get up to 70 degrees.

Back on the Qhapaq Ñan, from Putre the old Inca road heads down to Socoroma, a town seemingly stuck in time, famous for its terraced farms of oregano and alfalfa and the old church of San Francisco de Asís, which dates back to 1560. The team that promotes the Qhapaq Ñan affirms that Socoroma “has an emerging tourist industry”, which is reflected somewhat in the recent appearance of hostels and restaurants.

Finally, the trail ends at Zapahuira. The town has long been of strategic importance and boasts the ruins of an ancient “tambo” -an Inca trail fort- whose many stone buildings and outhouses are an archaeological treasure and were declared a National Monument in 1983. The town is also just off Ruta 11-Ch, so it has undergone some development in recent times, and now has three restaurants, a minimarket and a souvenir store, mostly catering for tourists travelling between Arica and La Paz by bus.

Thanks to the historical value of the trail, the beauty of its landscapes and the region’s rich biodiversity, the road between Putre, Socoroma and Zapahuira is today a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurs and innovators in tourism, and as such offers a whole new range of activities such as trekking, climbing and mountain biking.

The site’s recent history began in 2006, when archaeologists found the Lady of Cao -the female version of the Lord of Sipán–: a young woman of no more than 25 who was the ruler of Peru, and who was buried around 1700 years ago.

She was wrapped in sheets of copper and cotton -which aided her preservation-, and was buried with almost 100kg of necklaces, crowns and other jewellery. Part of this stunning find can be seen at the Museo de Cao, which is a must-see for any first-time visitors to Trujillo. MUSEO SANTA TERESA Parada obligada en Arequipa, el Monasterio de las Carmelitas Descalzas de San José –más conocido como Santa Teresa– fue fundado

Desde 2005, las monjas que habitan y dirigen el Monasterio decidieron abrir parte de él al público, marcando el comienzo de este espectacular museo de arte virreinal, dividido en más de una decena de salones. Para fanáticos de la cultura, la Pinacoteca do Estado (pinacoteca.org.br) conserva algunas de las obras fundamentales de los artistas brasileños más grandes de la historia. Además, vale la pena visitarlo para conocer la vieja y espectacular estación de trenes donde funciona.

Just across from the port of Corral, about thirty minutes from Valdivia, this amazing museum fort is a great place to come with the family. It was built in the 17th century, and gives visitors a glimpse of the area's historical importance to Chile, and the kids will love it.

Culture vultures will love Pinacoteca do Estado (pinacoteca.org.br), which houses many of the most important works from Brazil's most highly respected artists. It's also set up inside an old railway station, which is fascinating and worth a trip in itself.

Como una manera de favorecer la inclusión laboral de las personas mayores, SKY, en colaboración con la Confederación de la Producción y del Comercio (CPC) y el Servicio Nacional del Adulto Mayor (Senama), firmaron un convenio de cooperación para generar iniciativas que contribuyan directamente a este propósito. El acuerdo se enmarca en el programa de Gobierno “Adulto Mejor”, liderado por la Primera Dama, Cecilia Morel.

Actualmente, los chilenos mayores de 60 años representan un 19,3% de la población del país, cifra bastante superior a la que existía en 1990, cuando este segmento alcanzaba un 9%. Se espera que este grupo llegue a 25% para 2035 y a 31% para 2050.

Frente a este panorama, SKY –junto con la Fundación Emplea del Hogar de

Cristo– se comprometió a potenciar la participación de adultos mayores en situación de vulnerabilidad social en el mercado laboral formal, a través de un programa piloto enfocado en el área de despacho comercial del aeropuerto de Santiago, que se implementará durante los próximos meses.

“El desafío que tenemos como compañía es contribuir desde nuestro sector con iniciativas que promuevan la inclusión de nuestros adultos mayores, y a que envejezcan de forma activa, saludable y digna.

Estamos conscientes de que su trabajo constituirá un tremendo aporte, gracias a su gran sentido de responsabilidad, paciencia y orientación al servicio”, señaló el director de Recursos Humanos de SKY, Francisco Tirado.

In a move that will favour workplace inclusion for the elderly, SKY has signed an agreement with the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC) and the National Service for Senior Citizens (SENAMA) to create initiatives that will promote the participation of older workers. This comes as part of the Chilean government's “Adulto Mejor” (Super Seniors) programme, spearheaded by First Lady Cecilia Morel.

Currently, Chileans over 60 make up around 19.3% of the country's population, a much larger figure than back in 1990, when it was around 9%. And the number is expected to rise even further, to 25% for 2035 and 31% for 2050.

In light of this, SKY -in partnership with the Hogar de Cristo charity's Employment Foundation- has committed to improving the participation of vulnerable senior citizens in the labour market, with a pilot programme in the commercial despatches area of the Santiago airport beginning in the coming months.

“Our challenge as a company is to contribute to the industry with initiatives that promote the inclusion of elderly workers, helping them age actively, healthily, and with dignity. We know that they can make a big contribution thanks to their great sense of responsibility, patience and service”, said SKY's Head of Human Resources, Francisco Tirado.

#DESTINOSKY Parque Tricao En la comuna de Santo Domingo, a un par de horas de Santiago, el Parque Tricao es un oasis en el secano costero de la Región de Valparaíso. Abierto a toda la comunidad, para ingresar a esta reserva ecológica privada hay que adquirir las entradas en su web tricao. cl. En este parque se puede encontrar desde un tranque navegable, rutas de treking, un bello humedal y un aviario que es el más grande de Sudamérica. Este último posee más de 50 especies de aves exóticas, entre las que destacan el loro ecléctico, originario de las Islas Salomón, Nueva Guinea y el nordeste de Australia. / Parque Tricao is near Santo Domingo, about two hours from Santiago, and is an oasis in the dry coastal area of Valparaíso. It’s open to the whole community, but you have to buy tickets from the website tricao.cl. The park has everything from a navegable reservoir, trekking trails, a beautiful marsh and the biggest aviary in South America. It houses over 50 exotic bird species including the eclectus parrot, which is found in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and the north east of Australia.

—¿Norte o sur de Chile?

—Encuentro que Chile entero es maravilloso. He viajado de norte a sur.

Pero si me preguntas así, de una, soy del norte. Y si hay una ciudad que me encanta, esa es Iquique.

—¿Destinos urbanos o naturaleza?

—Antes prefería los destinos urbanos y ahora que soy mamá, que soy “Mamaly”, prefiero la naturaleza, porque siento que mi hijo disfruta con eso. Siempre soñaba con tener un hijo o una hija para andar en los parques mirando árboles y florcitas.

—¿Mantel largo o comida callejera?

—Ahí me baja todo lo aspiracional.

Me gustan los de mantel largo para una cita con mi pareja bien fifí. Me encanta probar comidas exóticas nuevas y vinos ricos.

—¿Qué lugar de Chile te gustaría conocer?

—Me gustaría profundizar en el sur.

El norte lo conozco harto. Me gustaría ir a la Carretera Austral.

—¿Qué es lo primero que echas a tu maleta?

—Cepillo de dientes y cremas, porque estoy envejeciendo y eso se ha vuelto una parte muy importante de mi vida.

Tengo una crema para cada parte de mi cara… ¡ja-ja-ja!

—What’s your first memory of travelling?

—I have a few flashes and blurred memories of a plane journey when I was about 3-and-a-half, when my family went to live in El Salvador.

It was all snowy, we couldn’t land, and they sent us back to Santiago.

—North or south of Chile?

—I think the whole of Chile is amazing. I’ve travelled from north to south. But if I have to choose, I’d say north. And if I have to pick a city, it’s Iquique.

—Do you prefer city breaks or wilderness adventures?

—I used to be more of a city break person, but now that I’m a mother, I think I’d have to say nature because I know my son enjoys that more. I always dreamt of having a son or daughter who would walk with me through parks looking at the trees and flowers.

—Fine dining or street food?

—I’m a bit stuck up in that sense. I love fine dining for a date or a night out with my partner. The posher the better. I always want to try new exotic foods and tasty wines.

—Where in Chile would you like to visit?

—I’d like to travel more of the south. I’ve been all over the north. The Southern Highway is an area I’d love to visit.

—What’s the first thing you pack in your suitcase?

—My toothbrush and face creams, because I’m getting older and that has become a big part of my routine. I have a different cream for each part of my face... Ha-ha!

—¿Cuál es tu primer recuerdo viajero?

—Tengo unos flashazos, imágenes borrosas arriba de un avión como a los 3 años y medio, porque nos fuimos a vivir a El Salvador. Se veía nevado, no pudimos aterrizar y nos devolvieron a Santiago.
