Según el sector, existe un precio claramente diferenciado entre la producción convencional y ecológica de pimiento que está empujando al incremento de superficie bio en los últimos años. Según un informe del Observatorio de Precios de la Junta de Andalucía, el ecológico presenta un precio medio de 1,05 euros/kg frente a los 0,77 euros/kg del convencional. Así, en zonas como el Campo de Níjar, el pimiento bio representa ya un 20% de las hectáreas dedicadas a este cultivo. En El Ejido, empresas como Murgiverde están apostando fuerte por esta línea de trabajo, con un 40% de su cultivo en ecológico.

Especialidades _________________________________ La diversificación en tipos es fundamental en pimiento, sobre todo ahora que su superficie continúa creciendo y, de momento, parece no haber tocado techo. Si bien es cierto que tipos como los snacks incrementaron su precio medio durante la última campaña (un 3,2%, hasta situarse en 1,63 euros/kg), también lo es que otros como los dulces cónicos o tipo Palermo han perdido algunos céntimos (de 1,05 a 1,03 euros/kg). Para Góngora no hay duda: “Marruecos está centrando su producción de pimiento en las especialidades” y, de hecho, ya produce y comercializa pimiento dulce cónico con costes más bajos que el almeriense. La producción de pimiento en el país norteafricano se incrementa cada campaña, convirtiéndose junto con Turquía en uno de los principales competidores del producto almeriense durante la etapa invernal.
