El camino por nuestro octavo año de trabajo comenzó por tierras sanjuaninas: nuestro recorrido gourmet festeja el paladar en una explosión de sabores que resulta de sus tradicionales comidas y sus incomparables vinos. Una propuesta para saborear despacio, mordisco a mordisco y sorbo a sorbo.

En el sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires les proponemos descubrir el encanto de un lugar conocido por ser la tercera colonia francesa del país: Pigüé. Sus distinguidos establecimientos dedicados al turismo rural permiten un acercamiento a la vida de campo y, como yapa, disfrutar de un paisaje serrano sin igual. Su circuito de turismo religioso invita a hacer un viaje espiritual y visitar la Gruta de Lourdes, que cada año recibe a miles de devotos, y a conocer el Monasterio Bizantino, donde en un ambiente de increíble paz y silencio los monjes David y Diego reciben a sus visitantes con una inmensa cordialidad.

De allí viajamos a Entre Ríos, a redescubrir un destino conocido por muchos en el verano por su famoso carnaval, pero que ofrece un sinfín de actividades para disfrutar a lo largo del año: Gualeguaychú. Al llegar a la ciudad entrerriana, el sol se refleja

sobre el río. La costanera y el Parque Unzué crean el marco para comenzar el recorrido. Gualeguaychú recibe a sus visitantes con una calidez que logra vencer al invierno. La hospitalidad y la alegría son las características esenciales de quienes brindan los servicios al turismo. Quizás sea porque llevan el carnaval en la piel.

Es una de las localidades más visitadas durante el verano, pero hay quienes no saben que Gualeguaychú tiene mucho más que playas y comparsas. Así lo relató el secretario de Turismo de la ciudad, Fabián Godoy, quien destacó: «tenemos servicios todo el año para disfrutar de nuestro medio ambiente: cabalgatas, trekking, kayak, avistaje de fauna y flora autóctona de la zona, hay opciones para todos los gustos».

Todas las actividades permiten convivir con la naturaleza, de manera que además de disfrutar el viaje, el turista pueda reflexionar en torno a la conciencia ecológica, teniendo en cuenta la constante lucha de los gualeguaychenses para enfrentar la instalación de la papelera Botnia.

Se encuentra a sólo dos horas del Obelisco y es uno de los destinos más elegidos para «desenchufarse» de la rutina porteña. Durante todo el año, Gualeguaychú ofrece una gran variedad de opciones, ya sea por tierra o por agua, para disfrutar de la belleza y tranquilidad que transmite su entorno natural.

Ecoturismo en primera persona Una de las opciones más llamativas que ofrece esta temporada son las expediciones en kayak, que recorren los ríos Uruguay y Gualeguaychú. Desde el agua se puede disfrutar del silencio, que sólo interrumpen los remos, mientras se aprecian diferentes especies de aves, tales como garzas, chajás y martines pescadores, entre otros.

4x3 La Secretaría de Turismo de Gualeguaychú lanzó la promoción «4 x 3», que consiste en regalarle una noche a quienes se alojen durante tres noches en la ciudad. En diálogo con Cambio de Aire, el secretario de Turismo de la ciudad, Fabián Godoy, explicó: «el beneficio durará hasta el 20 de septiembre y es una recompensa para la gente que nos elige como destino, para que pueda conocer muy bien todas las posibilidades que brindamos». tín, uno de los guías, la idea es que «la gente pueda tener la oportunidad de conocer el entorno natural de la zona, con una actividad amigable con el medio ambiente, como lo es el remo».

Se puede elegir un recorrido corto de dos horas o una salida de varios días, acampando a la vera del río, con equipamiento y pesca incluida para los aficionados. Además del avistaje de aves, en ciertas oportunidades se pueden ver ciervos (que no son autóctonos sino introducidos en la zona), carpinchos, nutrias y lobitos de río.

La oferta incluye varios circuitos dentro de la cuenca río Gualeguaychú-Uruguay, siempre analizando la relación del hombre con la naturaleza: «el ecoturismo nos da la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre cómo el entorno natural y

bello que tenemos se ve modificado por nuestra relación con el medio ambiente, a veces sin respetarlo», enfatizó Juan Martín, con su tono calmo y tranquilo.

Durante el recorrido por las aguas con las que conviven a diario es posible comprender por qué aman el kayakismo. La paz que transmite el río, su inmensidad y el silencio que enmudece sólo puede compartirse con quienes tuvieron la dicha de realizar el circuito.

Otra opción para los amantes del agua son los recorridos en lanchas, veleros o catamaranes, que permiten contemplar desde el río las playas, el parque Unzué, la isla Libertad, el puerto y el histórico frigorífico de Gualeguaychú.

Naturaleza compartida Los niños pueden comprender la importancia de cuidar el medio ambiente si lo recorren y forman parte de él. Por eso, la ciudad ofrece varias alternativas que permiten aislarse de la rutina y compartir en familia. Para los más curiosos, en la Reserva Natural Senderos del Monte se realizan caminatas recreativas, con juegos y actividades integradoras, que generan inquietudes y nuevos conocimientos, por lo que el disfrute llega a grandes y chicos.

Para agendar: A mediados de agosto, para el fin de semana largo, se realizará «Matencuentro Gualeguaychú», una fiesta que ya cumplió diez años y tiene como protagonista al mate, como uno más de los presentes.

En octubre se llevará a cabo el Desfile de Carrozas estudiantiles, un concurso de más de cuarenta carrozas monumentales, realizados por la estudiantina de Gualeguaychú.

Otra experiencia atractiva es el turismo rural, que consiste en vivir un día de campo realizando actividades típicas tales como el ordeñe, cabalgatas y cría de animales de granja. Los más pequeños se asombran y disfrutan al ver un nacimiento, la alimentación de los animales y el arreo de las ovejas por perros.

Con el molino como emblema, en la casa de campo Ita peby, Poppy y Rodolfo Casarino reciben a los visitantes como si fueran parte de su propia familia. Son un entrañable matrimonio que disfruta de compartir su proyecto de vida con los turistas y abren las puertas de su casa con total hospitalidad.

«Nos visitan muchos chicos a los que tratamos de transmitirles los mismos valores que les inculcamos a nuestros hijos y nietos», asegura Poppy. La idea es que se diviertan a la vez que aprenden.

«Por ejemplo, Rodolfo pone un pedazo de cuero en el piso, lo ata al caballo, los sienta allí y los lleva a recorrer la estancia; se ríen mucho, es todo novedoso para ellos», cuenta la mujer de la casa, orgullosa de su marido.

Quienes se hospedan allí también pueden disfrutar de comidas caseras y tortas, pero por sobre todo, de la tranquilidad que transmiten los atardeceres en el campo, im-

Paseo de los artesanos: ejemplo de unión y trabajo La feria está abierta todo el año y sus 42 puestos ofrecen artesanías para diferentes gustos: tejidos, accesorios con hilo, vidrio y hasta de papel reciclado. Héctor Borches, especialista en talabartería, cuenta que desde 2003 la artesanía es su fuente de ingresos y destaca: «Tratamos que en la feria exista variedad de piezas y que sean de calidad, buscamos siempre ir perfeccionándonos, para así brindar productos óptimos».

Reflejo del trabajo en conjunto y la solidaridad que caracteriza a los artesanos, Héctor, que también es compositor de folklore, le recitó a Cambio de Aire un fragmento de su autoría: «Estrechemos las manos y juntos conozcamos un tiempo mejor. Con tu puedo y mi quiero marchemos hacia logros con trabajo, esfuerzo y amor».

THAN JUST CARNIVAL It’s only two hours away from the Obelisco and it has become one of the most popular destinations to unwind from the city’s routine. Throughout the year, Gualeguaychú offers a wide range of options –on land or water- to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of its natural environment.

Upon arrival to the city, the sun reflects on the river. The waterfront and the Unzué Park frame the beginning of our trip. Gualeguaychú welcomes visitors with such warmth that it beats winter.

Hospitality and fun seem to be common treats of everyone offering tourism services. Or maybe they’ve just got carnival under their skin.

It is one of the most visited cities over summer, but some people don’t know that Gualeguaychú has lots to offer on top of beaches and krewes. In the words of the city’s Tourism Secretary, Fabián Godoy: «we have activities to enjoy nature throughout the year including horseback riding, trekking, kayaking, native flora and fauna sightings… We have something for everyone».

Every activity enables visitors to be in close contact with nature so, in addition to enjoying the trip, tourists can reflect on ecology keeping in mind the city’s constant fight against the settlement of the Botnia paper mill.

Eco-tourism in first person One interesting option this season is going on kayaking expeditions up the Uruguay and Gualeguaychú rivers. Silence is only interrupted by the sound of the roars going in the water and while kayaking away you can also do some bird watching and see herons, southern screamers and kingfishers, among others.

Pura Vida Ecoaventura was created under the slogan «free rivers for free people» to raise awareness about the importance of fresh water. One of its guides, Juan Martín tells us that the idea behind it is: «for people to have an opportunity to get to know the area’s natural surroundings by participating in an eco-friendly activity, like rowing».

Tourists can choose from a short two-hour trip or one that lasts for a few days and includes camping by the river and fishing equipment for enthusiasts. On top of bird watching, some deers might be seen (they are not a native species of the area, they have been introduced to it) along with capybaras, otters and river seals.

The offer includes several circuits in the Uruguay and Gualeguaychú rivers’ basin, all of which highlight the relationship between men and nature: «ecotourism gives us a chance to reflect on how our natural and beautiful surroundings are modified by our relationship with the environment, which we not

4x3 The Tourism Secretary of Gualeguaychú has launched the «4 x 3» promotion which consists in giving away a free accommodation night to guests who pay for a three night stay in the city. The city’s Tourism Secretariat, Fabián Godoy told Cambio de Aire: «the promotion is valid until September, 20th and it is a reward to tourists who choose us as a destination, so they have more time to get to know us and our services».

Craft market: an example of union and work The fair is open year-round and its 42 stalls offer craftwork for everyone: knits, linen, glass and even recycled paper. Héctor Borches, an expert saddler, says that since 2003 his handiwork has been his source of income. He says: «We always try to offer a variety of pieces, quality ones and we are constantly looking for improvement to provide customers with top-quality products».

As representation of the teamwork and solidarity typical of craftsmen, Héctor –who is also a folklore composer- recited a fragment of his authorship to Cambio de Aire: «Let’s hold hands and together let’s get to know a better time. With your ‘I can’ and my ‘I want to’ let’s walk towards accomplishments with work, efforts and love».

It is easy to understand why people love kayaking: it is all about the river and its peace, immensity and silence, which can only be shared with those who have taken part in the circuit.

There are more options for water lovers, including rides on motorboats, sailboats or catamarans from which you can contemplate the beaches, the Unzué Park, the Libertad Island, the port and the historic meat-processing plant of Gualeguaychú.

Shared nature Children can understand the importance of caring for the environment if they see it and feel like they are a part of it. That is why, the city offers a few alternatives to step down from routine and share as a family.

For the curious kind, the Reserva Natural Senderos del Monte (Scrubland Paths Natural Reserve) offers recreational walks, with games and integrative activities to raise questions and provide new knowledge so they can be enjoyed by the older and the younger.

The paths cover 25 hectares and reflect the different habitats of the Entre Ríos pampa wetland: pasturelands, gallery forest and riparian scrubs.

Another attractive experience is rural tourism, which consists in a full farm day doing typical activities like milking, horseback riding and breeding of livestock.

Kids are in awe and enjoy witnessing a birth, feeding animals or dogs herding sheep.

At the Itapeby country state –with a windmill as a flag, Poppy and Rodolfo Casarino welcome tourists like family. They are an adorable couple who enjoys sharing their life project with tourists and that’s why they open the doors to their house with absolute hospitality.

«We get lots of kids who visit us and we try to teach them the same values that we taught our children and grandchildren», says Poppy. The idea is for them to have fun and learn something from the experience, too. «My husband, Rodolfo, puts a piece of leather on the floor, he ties it up to the horse, he sits the kids on it and takes them for a ‘ride’ around.

They laugh a lot, everything is new for them», she says, proud of her partner.

Those staying at the country house get to enjoy homemade meals and cakes but above all, they get to enjoy the peaceful countryside sunsets, a must-see landscape.

«Our family has always made a living out of the rural activity and that has allowed us to discover the value of our soil, to respect nature and to wonder at it. Itapeby is a life project that makes us happy: we want to share it with everyone who visits us», concludes Rodolfo.

Whichever the chosen option, Gualeguaychú offers its natural environment to be enjoyed and to value each resource that it has. Its flora and fauna, its rivers and spots invite tourists to visit the city throughout the year. Because Gualeguaychú is very close and it is much more than just carnival

Patagonia argentina

DE NUESTROS ORÍGENES

La historia de las tierras del sur se remonta a cientos de años atrás, cuando las comunidades indígenas habitaron la zona que luego fue ocupada por el avance de la Conquista del Desierto. Pese al gran exterminio que sufrieron, muchas familias sobrevivieron y sus descendientes viven en varias áreas de la Patagonia, manteniendo sus costumbres y creencias.

l sur argentino ofrece opciones y lugares para todos los gustos, con paisajes repletos de montañas, lagos, flora y fauna. Para que el viaje sea completo, es interesante recorrer, además de la naturaleza de la Patagonia, la historia de sus primeros habitantes, su cultura y su constante lucha por defender la tierra.

Llegamos a la estación Nahuel Pan, en la provincia de Chubut. En el inicio de esta aventura cultural se destaca la hospitalidad y buena predisposición con la que nos 14

reciben los integrantes de las comunidades actuales. La Patagonia es rica en costumbres y creencias que los herederos de los primeros habitantes expresan y comparten con toda persona que visita sus tierras.

Antes de la Conquista del Desierto, la zona estaba poblada por los tehuelches y los mapuc hes. Los tehuelches, que habitaron desde el río Colorado hasta los canales magallánicos, eran de vida nómade, cazadores de guanacos y avestruces. Poseían un físico alto y

desarrollado, cabeza angosta y larga, lo que hizo que los denominaran Patagones.

Por contraste, los mapuches eran bajos, de cabeza ancha y cara redonda, siendo superior su nivel cultural debido a sus costumbres sedentarias, ya que eran cazadores y agricultores, con conocimientos de tejidos y alfarería.

Ocuparon el norte de la Patagonia y el sur de la llanura pampeana, se mezclaron con los tehuelches y los avasallaron porque, debido a que eran más evolucio-

nados, les impusieron sus costumbres y su lengua.

Algunas de las actuales agrupaciones son descendientes de núcleos originarios, con líderes o caciques, otras se construyeron sobre la base de familias dispersas y cruzamientos. Sea cual fuera su origen, todos sus miembros mantienen la tranquilidad y expresión de paz en su rostro, que contrasta con las adversidades que debieron pasar.

Los mapuches constituyen uno de los más importantes grupos indígenas del país. En la Patagonia, se puede conocer la historia de la comunidad Nahuel Pan, ubicada en la estación que lleva su nombre, donde termina el recorrido turístico del Viejo Expreso Patagónico conocido como La Trochita, en Esquel, provincia de Chubut.

En nombre del abuelo Al llegar a la estación Nahuel Pan, el paisaje es imponente. Rodeada por la inmensidad del cielo y las montañas, la comunidad mapuche ofrece artesanías y recibe a los turistas en un museo que documenta la historia de sus antepasados, junto al relato de los integrantes de las familias que habitan en la zona.

Para continuar con el recorrido, nos recibió Francisco Huenchumanque, nieto del último descendiente directo del pueblo originario, quien nos contó que el primero en asentarse en la zona fue el Cacique Francisco Nahuel Pan.

Las comunidades en Chubut se denominan mapuche-tehuelche porque son descendientes de ambas raíces. Tienen una bandera que los representa con los colores: azul, que significa el cielo; blanco, la pureza y el caballo; amarillo, el sol y la punta de flecha por la lanza de los tehuelches, con el doble sentido de siempre mirar hacia adelante.

Allí, a 15 km del centro de la ciudad de Esquel, la comunidad llegó a componerse de más de 300 personas, donde convivían mapuches, tehuelches y araucanos.

Como si estuviera reviviendo cada detalle y con total exactitud, Francisco relató a Cambio de Aire que, en 1879, con la llegada de las tropas de Julio Argentino Roca, el cacique fue secuestrado y llevado como guía para que les sirviera de «ayuda» en la conquista de las tierras del sur argentino, que él conocía como nadie. Llegado el nuevo siglo, lo liberaron y le dieron veinte mil hectáreas de tierra en forma de pago por los servicios prestados al gobierno.

Sin embargo, en 1937 desalojaron por la fuerza a toda la comunidad, que disminuyó debido a muertes y exilios forzados. Aunque en 1948 se gestionó la restitución de las tierras, se recuperaron sólo nueve mil hectáreas, exclusivas para los

familiares directos de Nahuel Pan, quien había fallecido en 1920.

Actualmente, la com unidad mapuche-tehuelche está formada por veinte familias que subsisten gracias a trabajos en la ciudad y la cosecha pero, el nieto del último cacique, con una expresión tranquila pero afligida, aseguró: «es difícil la vida en el campo, con la sequía de todo el país, no se puede sobrevivir sólo de la producción de la tierra». Sin embargo, la llegada de La Trochita a la estación «es una buena oportunidad para vender las artesanías de la comunidad y mostrar su cultura a todos los turistas, el tren nos ayuda mucho», resaltó Francisco.

Sin dudas, conocer y entender a los pueblos que habitan la Patagonia es también conocer parte de nuestros orígenes. La cultura de los primeros habitantes sigue vigente y vale la pena descubrirla

Un paseo por la Patagonia originaria Para conocer y comprender la historia de las comunidades indígenas que dieron origen a muchas ciudades del sur, es posible visitar el Museo de las Culturas Originarias Patagónicas, ubicado en la estación Nahuel Pan, en la provincia de Chubut.

En el lugar se preservan elementos y piezas de uso cotidiano, reproducciones de la cultura más reciente de los mapuches y expresiones tehuelches, como el arte textil, platería e instrumentos, alfarería y la historia del emblema que hoy identifica a este pueblo: la Bandera mapuche - tehuelche y su creador, Don Julio Antieco.

The history of the southern lands dates back to hundreds of years when aboriginal communities inhabited the area later occupied during the Conquest of the Desert. Despite the extermination they suffered, many families survived and their descendants live all around Patagonia keeping their traditional customs and beliefs.

The Argentine south features all kind of options and places filled with mountains, lakes, flora and fauna. To make it a complete trip, besides learning about Patagonia´s nature, it is also interesting to find out about the history of the first inhabitants, their culture, and their constant struggle to defend their land.

We get to Nahuel Pan station, in the Chubut province; aware of the hospitality and willingness showed by local residents as standing features, we begin this cultural adventure. Patagonia is embedded with customs and beliefs the descendants of early settlers exhibit and share with visitors.

Before the Conquest of the Desert, the area was occupied by the Tehuelche and Mapuche people. The Tehuelche settled from the Colorado river to the Magellan canals, lived as nomads and hunted guanacos and ostriches, exhibiting a tall and wellbuilt physical appearance, with narrow and long faces from which they were named Patagones.

On the contrary, the Mapuche were short, had wide and round faces, and greater cultural level due to their sedentary way of living, since they were hunters and farmers who knew about textiles and pottery.

the south of the llanura pampeana, where they fused with the Tehuelche subjugating them and imposing their customs and language.

Some of the current groups descend from original native settlers, with leaders or tribal-chiefs; while others formed communities with mixed families.

Whichever their origin, all the members show a peaceful and calm expression which contrasts with the adversities they had to face.

The Mapuche were one of Argentina´s most important indigenous people. In the Patagonia, you can learn about the history of Nahuel Pan settlement located by the station carrying his name, which is the last stop of the old train Viejo Expreso Patagónico known as La Trochita, in Esquel, Chubut province.

Surrounded by the immensity of the sky and the mountains, the Mapuche community offers crafts and welcomes tourists in a museum where the story of its ancestors is documented, in addition to the stories narrated by locals.

Continuing the tour, we are greeted by Francisco Huenchumanque, grandson of the last direct

descendant of the original settlers, who tells us that the first settler was the Tribal-Chief Francisco Nahuel Pan. About 9 miles from Esquel´s downtown, the community came to be composed of more than 300 people where Mapuche, Tehuelche and Araucano people lived together.

As if reliving every detail and with great precision, Franscisco shared with Cambio de Aire that, in 1879 with the arrival of Julio Argentino Roca´s troops, the Chief was abducted and taken as a guide so as to «help» in the conquest of the Argentinean south, which he knew better than anyone. With the advent of the new century, he was freed and given 49421 acres of land as payment for his service to the government.

Nevertheless, the entire community which had diminished due to several deaths and forced exiles, was expelled in 1937. Even though the restitution of the land was negotiated, they could only recover 22239 acres for the direct descendants of Nahuel Pan, who had passed away in 1920.

Presently, the Mapuche-Tehuelche people is composed of 20 families who make their living working in the city and in the country, however, the last Chief’s grandson assures in a peaceful but worried way that: «Living in the country is hard, with

Pigüé, Saavedra

Al sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires, la «Comarca del Encuentro» propone un recorrido que conjuga sierras, aventura y religión.

l descender del avión, el sol asomaba tímidamente y presentimos que nos acompañaría a lo largo del día. El viaje de Buenos Aires a Bahía Blanca concluyó antes de que nos diéramos cuenta.

Un auto nos esperaba en el aeropuerto para trasladarnos a nuestro destino final: la ciudad de Pigüé, cabecera del partido de Saavedra.

A lo largo de los 236 km que recorrimos para llegar a la localidad, el tibio sol que traspasaba el vidrio nos cobijó y logramos aclimatarnos, ayudados además por una ronda de mates y facturas con las que nos agasajaron nuestros anfitriones. Pronto las sierras comenzaron a acompañarnos en la travesía.

«Pigüé está enclavada en un valle y rodeada por los cordones serranos de Cura Malal y Bravad», nos cuenta Marisol Montalbán, coordinadora de Turismo de la Municipalidad de Saavedra- Pigüé.

Pero el nombre de la ciudad data de mucho antes: fueron los indios Pampas los que la bautizaron como Pi-Hué, que significa «lugar de encuentro».

«Estas tierras habitadas por nativos fueron pobladas posteriormente a la conquista del desierto por un grupo de 40 familias provenientes de L`Aveyron, al 18

sur de Francia, junto a españoles e italianos. Estas 162 personas llegaron el 4 de diciembre de 1884, por lo que se tomó ese día como fecha de fundación de la colonia, y a Clément Cabanettes –quien ideó su venida a la Argentina-como fundador», relata Marisol.

Al llegar al casco urbano de la localidad vemos la huella dejada por sus colonizadores en tres edificios emblemáticos: la Sociedad Francesa, la Sociedad Española y la Sociedad Italiana. Sin embargo, en las calles centrales también se destacan sus dos plazas: la Plaza San Martín, conocida como la «Plaza del Alto», y la Plaza Sarmiento, también llamada la «Plaza de la Pérgola».

Trekking en Cerro Áspero Nos detuvimos para planificar las actividades del día. La primera sorpresa estaba por venir y combinaba aventura y un escenario serrano de ensueño.

A tan sólo 25 km de Saavedra se encuentra la Estancia Cerro Áspero, enclavada en el valle Abra del Hinojo. Ahí nos esperaba Carlos, propietario del lugar, quien nos cuenta que la gran afluencia de visitantes ocurre «principalmente de marzo a octubre», y

que en general vienen en «grupos de amigos dispuestos a disfrutar de la naturaleza y de actividades como trekking, cabalgata, escalada, rapel y tirolesa».

Guiado por dos perros labradores, Carlos nos va marcando el circuito de trekking que debemos seguir.

Unos más rápidos que otros nos vamos adentrando en la belleza del paisaje. Los latidos del corazón se hacen cada vez más evidentes, se entremezclan con las ansias porque llegue el momento de contemplar la prometida «gran vista panorámica».

Luego de treinta minutos de caminata nos detenemos.

Ante la vista de las sierras las palabras sobraron y disfrutamos de la leve brisa que empezó a sentirse. Para ese entonces el sol nos había abandonado, pero poco importó.

Turismo Rural: mucho más que campo Siguiendo el «Camino Real», a 24 km de Pigüe, nuestra primera parada fue en la Estancia Las Grutas. Su ubicación fascina a primera vista: está entre los cordones de las sierras Curamalal y Bravard.

En la inmensa casona que data de 1914 nos recibe sonriente Marina, que nos cuenta que «la estancia es el lugar ideal para el descanso». Diferentes personalidades de distintos ámbitos la eligieron como su rincón de relax. En 1987, Las Grutas recibió a un ilustre visitante: el presidente francés Francois Mitterrand.

Caminata, cabalgatas por sierras, arroyos y llanos; visita al Abra Encantada y escalada a la Gruta de los Espíritus, con pinturas rupestres, son algunas de las tantas actividades que se pueden hacer en el lugar.

Un encanto adicional es su cocina, que se especializa tanto en comidas criollas como en platos internacionales.

Según Marina «cada plato tiene el secreto de «Negrita» –propietaria de la estancia- que lo hace único». Y pudimos comprobarlo: una deliciosa cazuela de pollo nos esperaba en el comedor tras nuestro recorrido por el parque.

El atardecer llegó al tiempo que arribamos a la Estancia La Paz. Allí nos recibió Guillermo Wagner que, en cuestión de segundos, pasó a ser «Guille» para nosotros gracias a su amabilidad y simpatía. El establecimiento -que data de 1932- no sólo hace honor a su nombre sino que deslumbra a cada segundo por su elegancia arquitectónica. De estilo español y portugués, podría ser sin dudas el escenario de una película de época; cada una de sus 12 habitaciones nos lleva inevitablemente a imaginarnos historias de otros tiempos.

Entre las actividades que se pueden hacer se destacan: caza menor, trabajos de campo, cabalgatas y camping. También es posible disfrutar de un entorno natural donde habitan alrededor de 90 especies de árboles y 120 de aves.

Entremezclando sus anécdotas de vida con su pasado como futbolista y sus años vividos en Europa, Guille nos deja ver que encontró su lugar en el mundo en La Paz. Pasamos la noche allí. El amanecer nos encontró a todos esperando ansiosos (y pese al frío) la salida del sol en el exterior del lugar. Una de las mejores postales del viaje estaba por llegar.

El «Camino Real» siguió marcándonos el rumbo hasta arribar a La Tramontana. Salieron a nuestro encuentro Mercedes y Mario Baez, padre e hija. Para nuestra sorpresa nos esperaban con un desayuno regional con buñuelos, pan casero y budines.

Rodeada de un entorno natural, esta típica estancia pampeana ofrece confort, calidad y la posibilidad de realizar un sinfín de actividades como trekking, rapel, tirolesa, cabalgatas, excursiones, caza mayor y menor, fiestas y camping.

Cómo llegar: Pigüé se encuentra en el cruce de las rutas Nacional 33 y Provincial 67, lo que le otorga una estratégica posición con una eficiente red de transporte, facilitando el acceso desde cualquier punto del país.

Se puede llegar por ferrocarril a través de los servicios de Ferrobaires: Desde Plaza Constitución, los días lunes, miércoles y viernes; en tanto que desde Bahía Blanca, los días martes, jueves y domingos.

También se puede acceder por empresas de micros y minibuses.

En medio de la inmensidad serrana nos sorprende un pequeño templo en donde se pueden observar cuadros y decorados del arte cristiano-bizantino. Los monjes Diego y David nos reciben en su casa, donde reina una paz tan absoluta que nos lleva a contar nuestros más íntimos anhelos. Los monjes fundaron este lugar en 1998 en un predio donado en las sierras de Pigüé. Al momento de ingresar al templo, las mujeres tuvimos que vestirnos según marca la tradición: pañuelo cubriendo la cabeza y falda. Diego nos cuenta que ello obe-

dece a que forman parte de «una comunidad que vive de un modo integral en el rito bizantino (liturgia, calendario, costumbres, enseñanzas) y que es un espacio de aprendizaje para aquellas personas que deseen o bien sólo interiorizarse o incorporarlo a su vida».

Finalmente llegamos a La Gruta de Lourdes, en el mismo predio de la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón. Fue inaugurada en 1931 y alberga la imagen de Lourdes y piedras traídas de la gruta localizada en Lourdes, Francia. «La primera peregrinación se hizo para pedir agua», nos cuenta el sacerdote del lugar.

La tarde llegaba y el regreso a Capital Federal era inminente. Dejábamos atrás un cautivante paisaje serrano. When we got off the plane, the sun was timidly coming out and we had the feeling it would be with us for the rest of the day. The trip from Buenos Aires to Bahía Blanca was over before we had noticed.

A car waited outside the airport to take us to our final destination: Pigüé, main city of the Saavedra district.

All along the 146 miles we traveled heading to the city, the sun passing through the window warmed us up and a round of mates and facturas our hosts had brought to welcome us helped us to acclimatize. Hills soon became part of the trip.

«Pigüé is nestled in a valley surrounded by the Cura Malal and Bravad hill chains», says Marisol Montalbán, tourist coordinator of the Municipalidad de Saavedra -

Pigüé. The name of the city dates back to long time ago: it was the Pampas who named it Pi-Hué, which means «gathering place».

«These lands inhabited by natives were settled by 40 families from L`Aveyron, southern France, Spain and Italy after the desert conquest. The 162 people arrived in December, 4th, 1884, reason why that date is considered its foundation anniversary and Clément Cabanettes, who had planned the trip to Argentina, as its founder», narrates Marisol.

When we reached the urban area, we noticed the settlers´ mark in three emblematic buildings: the French, the Spanish

and the Italian Societies. Plaza San Martín, known as «Plaza del Alto», and Plaza Sarmiento also called «Plaza de la Pérgola» located in the major streets were also outstanding places.

Trekking in Cerro Áspero We stopped to plan the activities for the day. The first surprise combining adventure with a dream-like mountain setting was yet to come.

Just 15 miles from Saavedra we find Estancia Cerro Áspero nestled in Abra del Hinojo valley. We were welcomed by the owner of the place, Carlos, who tells us that most visitors come «from March to October»; usually groups of

How to get there: Pigüé is located in the junction of National Route 33 and Provincial Route 67, an strategic location with an efficient transport network which makes it easier the access from anywhere in the country. The railroad company Ferrobaires departs from Plaza Constitución on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from Bahía Blanca on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

friends willing to enjoy nature and activities like trekking, horseback riding, climbing, rappelling and Tyrolean crossing.

Led by two Labrador retrievers, Carlos shows us the trekking path we should follow. We get into the beauty of the landscape; heartbeats start to be notoriously evident eager to admire the long-

awaited «panoramic view».

We stop after a 30-minute walk. Before such amazing mountain scenery, words were unnecessary and we enjoyed the soft breeze that was beginning to blow. At that time, the sun had already abandoned us but it didn´t matter.

Rural Tourism: much more than just countryside Following the «Camino Real», 14 miles from Pigüe, our first stop was Estancia Las Grutas. It is spectacularly located between the Curamalal and Bravard hill chains.

At the great house dated back to 1914, a smiling Marina greets us and says that «the ranch is the perfect place to rest». A number of celebrities have chosen it as a place to relax. In 1987, Las Grutas welcomed a distinguished visitor: French president Francois Mitterrand.

Trekking, horseback riding along the hills, streams and plains, a visit to Abra Encantada, and climbing to the Gruta de los Espíritus exhibiting cave paintings, are some of the activities to do here.

The food including criollas and international specialties is an additional charm. According to Marina «each dish has «Negrita´s secret, the ranch´s owner, which makes them unique». A fact we could corroborate: a delicious

chicken stew was ready after our walk in the park.

We reached Estancia La Paz at dusk. Guillermo Wagner or «Guille» as we began to call him in a matter of seconds due to his kindness and charm, welcomed us.

The place dating to 1932, not only does justice to its name but also dazzles with its architectural elegance. With Spanish and Portuguese style, no doubt it could be the setting in place of a classic movie; the 12 rooms it features lead us to think about old stories.

To name some of the activities to do, we can mention: shooting, rural tasks, horseback riding and camping. In addition, enjoy the natural setting home to about 90 tree and 120 bird species.

Mixing stories about his life, his past as a football player, and the years lived in Europe, Guille let us know he has found in La Paz his place in the world.

We spent the night there. The day dawned and found us outside anxiously waiting (in spite of the chilly weather) the sun rose. One of the best postcards of the trip was about to happen.

The «Camino Real» kept leading our way until reaching La Tramontana where we met Mercedes and Mario Baez, father and daughter.

To our surprise, they welcomed us with a local breakfast composed of fritters, homemade bread and pies.

Immersed in a natural setting, this typical Pampa ranch offers comfort, quality and an endless number of activities like trekking,

rappelling, Tyrolean crossing, horseback riding, tours, shooting, celebrations and camping.

Gruta de Lourdes and Monasterio Bizantino Another important local highlight is the religious circuit. The visit to the Monasterio Católico Bizantino de la Transfiguración de Cristo is a «must».

In the middle of the hill setting immensity, a small temple featuring Christian-Byzantine pictures and ornaments caught our attention. Monks Diego and David greeted us at their house where the total reigning peace led us to share our most intimate desires.

The monks founded the place in 1998 in a donated site in the Pigüé hills. When we entered the temple, women had to dress according to the tradition: head and skirt covered by a shawl.

Diego explained the reason: «we are part of a community observing Byzantine customs (liturgy, calendar, traditions and teachings), and it is also a learning place for people interested in learning or joining this way of leaving «.

We finally get to the Gruta de Lourdes, in the Capilla del Sagrado Corazón. Founded in 1931,it shelters the Lourdes image and stones brought from the grotto located in Lourdes, France. «The first pilgrimage was asking for water», says the local priest.

The afternoon was near and our departure to Buenos Aires was imminent. We left behind a captivating mountain scenery.

LA EMBAJADORA DEL SABOR Emplazada en un cordón montañoso, San Juan, la Estrella de los Andes, seduce al turista con su fusión de productos culinarios en un paisaje de ensueño.

C

on el frío de una Buenos Aires aún no amanecida, en el Aeroparque Jorge Newbery tomamos el primer vuelo con destino a San Juan, a las 5:40 horas. Nuestra misión: degustar los sabores y aromas de la provincia cuyana en un circuito gastronómico para deleitar a los paladares más exigentes.

El reloj marcó las 7:30 y la voz de la azafata anunció el aterrizaje en el tiempo previsto. Para nuestra sorpresa, la baja temperatura quedó atrás y el característico efecto de la corriente calurosa del viento zonda nos invitó a dejar parte de nuestros abrigos en el hotel. Ansiosos por empezar la travesía culinaria fuimos al encuentro de Alberto, nuestro conductor designado, y nos dirigimos a la primera parada: bodegas.

Descubriendo los productos de la vid Favorecida por las condiciones climáticas y de su suelo, la provincia sanjuanina es la segunda productora de uvas de Argentina, fruta con la que se elaboran dulces, jugos y vinos. Cuenta con 258 bodegas inscriptas en el Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura, colocándose como la segunda provincia vitivinícola del país, y su variedad destacada es el Syrah. En esta oportunidad, visitamos dos de las bodegas más emblemáticas de San Juan: Santiago Graffigna y Merced del Estero.

Alberto estaciona frente a una extensa fachada color terracota. Al descender, descubrimos que estamos frente al «Museo Santiago Graffigna», el espacio donde la bodega más antigua de San Juan cuenta la historia desde su fundación en 1870 hasta la actualidad.

En el primer tramo del recorrido nos acompaña Diego, un guía local que narra sobre las raíces de la empresa y las primeras maquinarias empleadas en las diferentes etapas de producción. En la sala de toneles hay uno que se destaca por su gran volumen: una pieza con capacidad de

200.000 litros en el interior de la cual se realizó un almuerzo en 1910 con motivo del Centenario de la Revolución de Mayo, antes de que fuera definitivamente sellada.

Durante el segundo tramo, la sommelier Noelis Zamora nos enseña sobre el arte de la degustación en un Wine Bar ubicado dentro del predio del museo, con el particular distintivo de que la barra es una barrica gigante (como para experimentar una sensación similar al festín de 1910).

«Cuando tomamos la copa, debemos inclinarla para observar los matices de la bebida, sus colores, brillos.

Luego, sentimos el aroma y acto seguido agitamos su contenido con movimientos circulares para introducir nuevamente nuestra nariz y encontrarnos con los aromas liberados por la acción del movimiento. La idea es hallar en nuestra memoria aquellos perfumes que, seguro, nos son familiares», explica Noelis.

«Finalmente –continúa la sommelier- tomamos un sorbo y lo hacemos recorrer nuestra boca; con los labios un tanto presionados dejamos que entre aire, para apreciar con más intensidad los aromas».

En busca de un consejo sobre el mejor maridaje de cada variedad, Noelis nos asegura que la clave está en encontrar el sabor que más nos guste para disfrutarlo con el paladar y, en lo posible, en buena compañía.

Tras aprender acerca de la tradición del viñedo y los atributos de las principales variedades de la empresa, retomamos camino hacia la bodega boutique Merced del Estero, un emprendimiento familiar emplazado en el extremo oeste del valle de Tulum.

El camino hacia el valle está precedido por verdes vegetaciones rodeadas de elevaciones que descubren, a lo lejos, una cuidada finca de 12 hectáreas en la que sus propietarios iniciaron el cultivo para la elaboración de vinos con acento artesanal. «Sólo hacemos vino con lo cultivado, garantizando la calidad del producto», destaca Naly Rodríguez, dueña de la empresa.

La bodega produce 35.000 botellas anuales y su enólogo tiene la misión de hacer los controles diarios y decidir cuándo el vino está listo para salir al mercado. El proceso de embotellado de las unidades es manual, un empleado es el encargado de colocar las cápsulas y las etiquetas que visten el cuello y cuerpo de las botellas.

Llegado el momento de la degustación, la dueña del lugar nos invita a una sala en la que descubrimos en el paladar aquellos secretos sobre los cuidados del terruño, la fermentación y las barricas que nos fueron narrados. Los cuadros con algunas de las medallas ganadas por cada variedad llevan a una pregunta obligada: ¿cuál es el vino con mayor aceptación del público? «El torrontés es un descubrimiento para los turistas. Les agrada mucho al paladar», responde Naly.

Las degustaciones en bodegas trasladan al viajero más allá del consumo de una bebida, los adentra en toda una nueva experiencia en torno a su elaboración, su cultura y su origen.

Para verificar la aclamada fama de este fruto (y como excusa por la llegada del mediodía), Alberto condujo hasta el centro de la ciudad y ordenamos una pizza en uno de los centros gourmet. Cada porción coronada con dos aceitunas, una verde y otra negra, terminaron por confirmar su reconocimiento. El resultado: una visita por el Paseo Peatonal ubicado en las calles Rivadavia y General Acha para comprar tarros de aceitunas y aceite de oliva. Lo difícil fue decidir cuál llevar, porque las conservas vienen rellenas con morrones, quesos, palmitos y almendras, entre otras opciones.

Merienda con cemita Luego de un tour por la Plaza 25 de Mayo y la casa natal del prócer y ex presidente argentino Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (hoy convertida en un museo histórico nacional y biblioteca), hicimos una pausa para una merienda típica.

En las panaderías y carros ambulantes se vende un panificado en forma de torta que en su interior tiene chicharrón.

Este manjar lugareño llamado «cemita» es el compañero ideal de unos mates dulces o amargos, a gusto del cebador.

Un clásico: empanadas de chivito El 80% del territorio sanjuanino está cubierto por sierras y cordones cordilleranos. Durante las noches des-

pejadas, las sombras de las elevaciones matizan el azul del cielo repleto de estrellas. En ese escenario, bajo la luz de la luna y haciendo frente al frío probamos un clásico de la gastronomía lugareña: las empanadas caseras de chivito de montaña.

Acompañadas de un buen vino para aminorar la baja sensación climática, las jugosas empanadas contenían cebolla, cebollita de verdeo, una tierna carne y especies aromáticas.

Dulce al paladar, alegre al corazón Además de las mermeladas de uva, en las regalerías se consiguen dulces de membrillos en trozos, jaleas y bombones. Este postre es destacado por su exquisito sabor, textura y color.

Otra de las alegrías dulces es la tortita jachallera, una masa semejante al scon con licor de anís, cocida en horno de leña y que se consigue principalmente en el departamento de Jáchal, ubicado en el centro norte de la provincia y conocido como la tierra de la tradición.

SAN JUAN, ... THE FLAVOR AMBASSADOR

Nestled in a mountain range, San Juan, the Star of the Andes, seduces tourists with its culinary fusion in a superb setting.

We arrived to the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery with the typical cold of a still asleep Buenos Aires to take the earliest plane to San Juan, 5:49 am.

Our mission: to taste flavors and aromas from the Cuyo province in a gastronomic circuit destined to delight the most discerning palates.

The clock struck 7:30 in the morning and the flight attendant´s voice announced landing was on time. To our surprise, the cold temperature was left behind and the typical warm zonda winds encouraged us to leave part of our coats at the hotel. Willing to begin our culinary tour, we looked for Alberto, our driver, and headed towards our first stop: wineries.

Discovering vine products Blessed with nice weather and soil conditions, San Juan is the second grape producer in Argentina, a fruit used for making jams, juices and wine.

It features 258 wineries registered at the Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura, ranking second among the country´s wine-producer cities, with the Syrah as its most notable variety. In this opportunity, we visited two of San Juan´s most emblematic wineries: Santiago Graffigna and Merced del Estero.

discover it is the «Museo Santiago Graffigna», a site where the oldest winery in San Juan tells about the story of its foundation in 1870 until nowadays.

During the first part of the tour, Diego, a local guide, explains about the origins of the company and the first machines used in the different stages of production. At the barrel´s room stands out a large one: a piece with 52.822-gallon capacity, inside which a lunch celebrating the centennial of the May Revolution took place in the year 1910, before it was completely sealed.

In the second part, sommelier Noelis Zamora teaches us about the wine degustation art at a Wine Bar located in the museum, with the particularity that the bar is a giant cask (to experience something similar to the 1910 celebration).

«Tilt your wine glass to observe the shades, color and brightness. Then, inhale the aroma and swirl the content in a circular motion, then hold it again to your nose and sense the aromas that were freed by the move. The idea is to explore your memory looking for familiar scents», explains Noelis.

«Finally – the sommelier continues – take a sip and keep it in your mouth, with the lips a bit pressed let the air

in to appreciate the aromas more intensively».

Looking for a piece of advice about the best pairs for the different varieties, Noelis assures that the key is to find the one the palate enjoys the most, and if possible in good company.

After learning about vine tradition and qualities of the company´s major varieties, we headed towards the family-owned boutique-winery Merced del Estero located in the western part of the Tulum valley.

The road to the valley is preceded by green vegetation surrounded by high lands that unveil, in the distance, a 12-hectare cared ranch where its owners started the cultivation for the production of hand-crafted wine. «We make wine with our production only, guarantying in consequence the product´s quality», points out Naly Rodríguez, the company´s owner.

The winery produces 35.000 bottles per year, its enologist is the one in charge of doing daily controls and deciding when the wine is ready to be released to the market. The bottling process is manual; an employee sticks the capsules and labels around the neck and body of the bottles.

Harvest takes place between February and April, one part of the grapes are destined to produce wine, and the other to be exported. «The Cambio de Aire

Fiesta Provincial del Chivo In winter holidays, San Juan is the venue for the Fiesta Provincial del Chivo, a tribute to traditional food where one can taste roasted goat and take part in traditional music shows. first thing I see when I wake up during the harvest season, is the colorful crops enhanced by the early sunbeams», says Naly.

It´s time for the tasting, the owner takes us to a room where we can try, in our palate, all we´ve been told about soil care, fermentation and casks. The medals each variety had won, lead us to a required question: What kind of wine do people prefer the most? «Torrontes is a novelty for tourists. They find it pleasant to the palate», Naly answers back.

Tastings visitors do at wineries take them beyond the mere drinking of a beverage, it´s a new experience about its elaboration, culture and origin.

Top-quality olives Within San Juan´s agricultural industry, olives rank second in importance after grape cultivation. With 105.000 cultivated hectares, the country is placed among the tenth oil producers and in 2011, the area generated more than U$S 30 million in exports according to the data released by the Subsecretaría de Desarrollo de las Economías Regionales and published by the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA).

In order to verify the fruit´s acclaimed reputation (and as an excuse since it was lunchtime), Alberto took us to downtown city and we asked for a pizza in one of the gourmet centers. Each slice was crowned with two olives, one green, one black, which confirmed their reputation.

The result: a visit to the pedestrian walkway located in Rivadavia and General Acha streets to buy some olives and olive oil. The difficult task was to choose one since they come stuffed with red pepper, cheeses, palms and almonds, among others.

A classic: goat empanadas 80 % of San Juan is covered with hills and Andean chains. In clear nights, the shadows of the hills blend with the starry blue sky. Within such scenery, under the moonlight and putting up with the cold, we tried a classic local specialty: homemade mountain goat empanadas.

In company of some good wine to diminish the low temperature sensation, the juicy empanadas were prepared with onion, scallion, tender meat and aromatic herbs.

Sweet to the palate, joy to the heart In addition to grape jams, souvenir shops sell quince paste, jam and candies, a dessert standing out for its flavor, texture and color.

Another sweet treat is the jachallera cake. It´s a sconelike dough with anisette cooked in log-fired oven, mainly available in the Jáchal district located in the central north of the province and known as the land of tradition.

With more than one goal achieved, San Juan flavors delight our senses with traditional culinary specialties.

EL REGALO DE NAVIDAD Una sorpresa, una familia y un viaje a la ilusión y la fantasía. El parque de atracciones más grande y más visitado del mundo fue el escenario que supo unir a tres generaciones en una misma diversión, donde las más pequeñas hicieron realidad su sueño y los grandes jugaron a ser niños de nuevo.

penas el reloj marcó las doce, las copas se alzaron y el brindis tuvo lugar en medio de una ronda de besos y abrazos. La Navidad había llegado e instalado, como cada año, un ambiente de júbilo y alegría en el seno de la familia. No lo sabían todavía, pero esta vez Sofía (11) y Victoria (10) tendrían un motivo más para festejar, y es que Papá Noel, de la mano de sus abuelos, les había traído el hasta ahora mejor regalo de sus vidas.

Era a la vista un simple sobre blanco. Ante las miradas atentas, ansiosas y ya emocionadas de Rosa y Roberto, las nietas mayores de la familia descubrieron el contenido y se quedaron sin palabras: tickets aéreos y un folleto informativo del hotel donde se alojarían por más de 10 días en el mágico mundo de Walt Disney World. «No lo podía creer, pensé ‘wow, ¡es Disney!’», recordó Sofía, mientras Vicky sintetizó: «me puse a llorar de la emoción». Mamá Carolina también viajaría para acompañarlas, mientras que a papá Marcos le tocaría la tarea de quedarse trabajando y esperar en Buenos Aires el feliz regreso de sus chicas.

A partir de allí, la cuenta regresiva interminable hasta el momento en el que el sueño se convirtiera en realidad. «Los días previos a la ida fueron eternos, estaban súper ansiosas», cuenta Carolina.

El 13 de mayo materializaron un viaje que ya había comenzado en sus mentes y en sus corazones en aquella Navidad. El primer vuelo en avión de sus vidas, todo un éxito: «conocí la cabina del piloto, al principio tuve miedo, pero después ya no», afirma orgullosa Victoria.

Disney World celebrará en octubre de este año su 41º cumpleaños. Su construcción comenzó en 1967 y en el año 1971 inauguró su primer parque, Magic Kingdom. Su fundador, el dibujante estadounidense Walt Disney (1901-1966), murió sin la satisfacción de conocerlo. / In October of this year, Disney will celebrate its 41 anniversary. The construction began in 1967, and the inauguration of the first park, Magic Kingdom, was in 1971. Its founder, the American draftsman Walt Disney (19011966), died without the satisfaction of seeing it.

El complejo está situado en Orlando, Florida (EE.UU.) y se ha convertido en el principal empleador del centro de ese estado, con más de 50.000 trabajadores. / The complex is located in Orlando, Florida (USA), and has become the major source of employment of that state with more than 50.000 employees.

El comienzo de la magia Ya en suelo norteamericano, las caras de asombro y felicidad se sucedían unas tras otras. El hotel en el que se alojaron, uno de los resorts pertenecientes a la cadena Disney, proponía un recorrido por la década del ‘70, decorado con imágenes de algunos de los más importantes íconos de la cultura popular estadounidense de aquella época.

En total hay 29 hoteles de diferentes categorías y temáticas ubicados en las distintas áreas de Disney. Todos ofrecen beneficios exclusivos para sus huéspedes, tales como horas extendidas dentro de los parques (que permanecen abiertos un tiempo extra para que solamente ellos puedan recorrerlos), transporte gratuito desde y hacia el aeropuerto así como del hotel a los parques, y distintos paquetes de vacaciones que van desde la opción de contratar sólo el alojamiento hasta alternativas que incluyen planes de comida dentro de los parques y los tickets para disfrutar de todos ellos.

«Disney es genial, hay una organización tan perfecta que hace que todo funcione y que los tiempos puedan aprovecharse al máximo», asegura Carolina. La rutina de la familia era: levantarse temprano, desayunar en el hotel y esperar tan sólo unos minutos a que alguno de los micros pasara para llevarlos a los parques, en donde podían estar a veces incluso hasta entrada la noche, disfrutando de una cena en alguno de los tantos restaurantes que ofrecen distintas comidas, o bien contemplando los shows de lásers y fuegos artificiales que iluminan el cielo de ese mágico mundo.

Los seis parques temáticos de Disney brindan atracciones para toda la familia, desde la posibilidad de sumergirse en un cuento de hadas y conocer a los más populares personajes en Magic Kingdom, hasta disfrutar de las más sofisticadas atracciones tecnológicas en Epcot, de animales sorprendentes en Animal Kingdom y de conocer la realidad tras bastidores de las superproducciones hollywoodenses en Disney’s Hollywood Studios. «Era como estar en la cabeza de quienes imaginaron las películas», dice Sofía.

Los acuáticos Disney’s Blizzard Beach y Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon son un oasis en pleno verano, con piscinas con olas gigantes, rápidos toboganes, ríos para recorrerlos en gomones individuales y distintas áreas para niños, para soportar el calor de una forma divertida.

Tres generaciones, un mismo disfrute Para Carolina y los abuelos, este fue su segundo viaje a Disney.

«Si bien ya habíamos estado en 1990, esta vez lo disfrutamos de una forma diferente. Yo, a través de mis hijas y viendo a mis padres como abuelos», cuenta la mamá de las nenas. «Igual, en aquella época todo nos sorprendía más, no teníamos idea de lo

que nos esperaba. Hoy, con Internet, ellas ya tenían imágenes mentales de todo lo que veían, no les quedó un sólo video por mirar cuando se enteraron que iban a ir a Disney».

De aquel año a entonces, los parques se han ido renovando, incorporando nuevos juegos y atracciones y dando de baja algunos otros. Tal vez sea por eso que Vicky asegura: «mamá estaba muy contenta y se divirtió mucho, nos gustó verla disfrutar como si fuera una nena. Fue nuestro primer viaje juntas fuera del país». Y coincide con su hermana en que «no hubiese sido lo mismo sin ella».

Los abuelos de la historia merecen una mención especial: «No podía creer la energía que tienen mis papás, yo estaba cansadísima, ¡no daba más! Nos levantába-

mos muy temprano y caminábamos mucho, con un calor agobiante, ¡y ellos estaban como si nada! Eran como chicos disfrutando de los parques y se animaban a juegos que yo no hubiese subido ni loca», cuenta Carolina. «No me quisieron acompañar a una de las montañas rusas y al final me quedé con las ganas de subir», asegura Roberto, mientras la mira a Sofía y evidencia a quién va dirigido el reclamo.

Según Rosa, el viaje fue un regalo mutuo: «se lo regalamos a nuestras nietas pero también a nosotros, fue impagable verlas disfrutar así, valió cada centavo». «¡Y no hablamos de lo que fueron las compras!», agrega Roberto en un tono entre cómico y molesto. Es que para él, el shopping es todo un capítulo aparte. Claro, con cuatro mujeres y ningún compañero para el aguante, el abuelo tuvo que resignarse a largas caminatas y salidas femeninas. Igual, Rosa ríe y opina: «Roberto fue el que más compró».

Orlando ofrece una cantidad de centros comerciales considerable para, si aún quedan ganas después de los parques, seguir caminando. «Hay cosas muy baratas y mucho para ver, habría que ir en un tour exclusivo de compras», dice Carolina mientras recuerda las siete valijas que acompañaron a la familia de regreso al país.

«Disfrutamos un montón, la pasamos re bien y volvimos bastante cansaditos», resume el abuelo. Tanto es así que, con la abuela, ya están planificando unas nuevas vacaciones a Aruba, solitos, y para descansar.

En deseo para sus nietas, Roberto sueña y expresa: «ojalá en el futuro Dios les dé la posibilidad de hacer lo mismo con sus hijos y, cuando sean viejitas, con sus nietos; y que sientan la misma felicidad que sentimos nosotros hoy». Rosa remata y logra que su marido sonría cómplice: «Esperemos en unos añitos también poder llevar a nuestras otras dos nietas más chiquitas, Alma y Lola».

THE CHRISTMAS PRESENT

A surprise, a family and a trip to illusion and fantasy. The world´s largest and most visited amusement park was the setting that brought three generations together in the same moment of joy, where children made their dreams come true and adults felt like a kid again.

The clock had just struck twelve, glasses raised and the toast took place amid a round of kisses and hugs. Christmas had arrived and brought, like every year, a joyful and happy family atmosphere. They ignored it but, this time, Sofía (11) and Victoria (10) would have another reason to celebrate, why? Saint Claus together with their grandparents had brought them the best present ever.

It was a white envelope to the naked eye. Rosa and Alberto with an attentive, excited and moving look watched how the older granddaughters unveiled the content and remained speechless: flight tickets and a brochure of the hotel in which they would stay for more than 10 days at the magical Walt Disney World. «I couldn´t believe my eyes, ´wow it´s Disney´!, I thought», remembered Sofía while Vicky summarized: «I started crying over».

Their mother, Carolina, would also travel with them while their father, Marcos, would keep working in Buenos Aires waiting the happy return of his girls.

From then on, the final countdown until their dream come true began.

«Days before the departing hour were endless, they were very excited», comments Carolina.

trip that had already begun in their minds and hearts that last Christmas.

It was their first flight, a success! «I went to the cockpit, at first I was scared but then it was OK», Victoria assures proudly.

Magic begins Already on American ground, the happy and astonished faces came one after the other. The hotel where they stayed was a Disney resort and represented the ´70s decorated with pictures of some of the most popular American celebrities of that time.

Disney has 29 themed hotels boasting different categories. All of them offer exclusive benefits to their hotel guests such as extended theme park hours (enjoy additional time at the parks), free transportation to and from the airport, and to and from the hotel to the parks, and different holiday packages that offer only lodging, or options that include dining plan within the parks and tickets to enjoy all of them.

«Disney is great, everything is so well organized that all works perfectly making the most of every moment», Carolina assures. The family’s routine was the following: get up early, have breakfast at the hotel, and wait just a few minutes to be picked up by some of the buses that

would take them to the parks where they could stay until late in the evening enjoying a dinner at some of the many restaurants with varied food offer, or dazzling at the laser or fireworks shows lighting the sky of the magical world.

The six Disney theme parks boast attractions for the whole family, from the possibility to get into a fairy tale and meet all the popular characters at the Magic Kingdom, to enjoy the most sophisticated technological attractions at Epcot, amazing animals at Animal Kingdom and to learn about the backstage of Hollywood blockbusters at Disney Hollywood Studios. «It was like being inside the heads of the ones who made the movies», says Sofia.

The water parks Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon are an oasis in the middle of summer, featuring swimming pools with huge waves, rapids, slides, river with individual rafts and different playgrounds for childs for bearing the hot in an amusing way.

Three generations, the same fun To Carolina and the grandparents, this was her second trip to Disney.

«Despite we had been there in 1990, this time we enjoyed it in a different way. Me, through my daughters and

seeing my parents as grandparents», tells the kids´ mother. «Anyway, at that time, everything was more surprising, we had no idea of what to expect.

Nowadays, with internet, they already had mental pictures of what they were seeing; they watched all the videos when they found about the trip to Disney».

From that time, parks have been renovated adding more new attractions and closing some others. Maybe that is the reason why Vicky assures: «Mon was really happy and had a lot of fun, I liked to see her enjoying herself like a child. It was the first time we traveled overseas». She agrees with her sister in that «it wouldn’t have been the same without her».

The grandparents from the story deserve a special mention: «I couldn´t believe my parents’ energy; I was exhausted, worn out! We got up very early and walked a lot, it was scorching hot and they were as good as new! They were like children enjoying the parks, and dared to ride in attractions I wouldn’t have ridden even if I were insane», says Carolina.

«They didn´t come with me to one of the rollercoasters and I couldn’t get to do it», Alberto assures while he looks at Sofia evidencing who is he complaining at.

According to Rosa, the trip was a mutual gift: «It was a present for our granddaughters but also for us, it was priceless to see them enjoying that much,

every penny was worth it». Not to mention the shopping!, adds Roberto with a funny and annoyed voice. For him, shopping deserves another chapter.

Of course, with four women and no other pal to bear it, grandpa had to make long walks and join womenoutings. Rosa laughs anyway and says: «Roberto was the main shopper».

Orlando features a wide variety of shopping centers to continue walking after the parks if you feel like. «There is a lot of cheap stuff to see, we should go on a shopping tour exclusively», says Carolina while remembering the seven suitcases the family brought when they returned to the country».

«We enjoyed a lot, had a wonderful time and returned exhausted», sums up grandpa. It’s that so that together with grandma, they are planning new holidays to Aruba, alone and to rest.

Roberto expresses: «I wish in the future God allows my grandchilds to do the same thing with their kids and, when they are old, with their grandchildren; and that they can be as happy as we are today». S

u esfuerzo y talento le permitieron portar la camiseta de la selección durante 16 años hasta llegar a ser capitana de Las Leonas. Su experiencia en el deporte la convirtió en una de las mujeres referentes del hockey argentino; mientras que sus proyectos como mujer la acercaron a las ganas de ser mamá de Rocco e Indiana. Luego de su retiro del seleccionado, volvió a su primer amor: el Club Belgrano Athletic, donde comenzó su carrera con apenas 7 años. Hoy, «Magui» Aicega no duda en confesar que los entrenamientos y el trabajo como periodista en radio y televisión son «su cable a tierra» porque la conectan con su pasión más íntima: el amor por el deporte.

- Empezaste a jugar al hockey de chiquita. ¿Cuándo sentiste que era más que un hobby?

- Mis padres me llevaron a los 7 años al Club Belgrano que quedaba cerca de mi casa para ver si me gustaba y de hecho me enganché desde el primer día. De chica soñaba 34

jugar en la primera división del club, nunca tuve dudas de que el hockey era lo mío.

- ¿Qué significó para vos vestir la camiseta argentina durante tantos años?

- Creo que cualquier deportista sueña con jugar en la selección. Para mí fue un orgullo y un honor enorme poder vestir tanto tiempo la camiseta de mi país. Lo viví como una experiencia inolvidable y siempre digo que si volviera a nacer, lo elegiría nuevamente porque me hizo muy feliz y lo disfruté muchísimo.

- ¿Cómo fue tomar la decisión de abandonar el seleccionado?

- Decidí retirarme no por no tener ganas de seguir, sino para cerrar una etapa. Ya estaba casada y como toda mujer tenía otros proyectos… el tema es que cuando jugás con un alto rendimiento toda tu vida gira en torno al hockey y los entrenamientos. Obviamente hoy sigo jugando en el club de mi infancia en la primera división y si bien compito, extraño mucho a la selección. Pero igual creo que son otras etapas, y está bien

que así sea.

- ¿La maternidad tuvo que ver en esa decisión? ¿Cómo te haces tiempo para entrenar?

- En realidad no es que me retiré para tener hijos, sino para poder hacer otras cosas en mi vida. Como te dije antes, no fue para nada por cansancio sino para pasar a otra etapa. Hoy con mis nenes me organizo para poder ir a entrenar al club tres veces por semana y como es de noche, trato de dejarlos listos y bañados, con la comida preparada…cuando vuelvo ya están casi dormidos. Lo hago porque es mi cable a tierra, más allá del trabajo. Lo disfruto muchísimo y en especial los partidos de los sábados, a los que me encanta poder llevarlos.

- Debe ser muy lindo poder disfrutar con tus hijos esta pasión que tenés de chica ¿no?

- Totalmente. Pensar que empecé a los 7 años y hoy lo puedo

disfrutar con ellos, aunque no entiendan nada (se ríe). Mi nena a los 4 meses ya estaba viniendo a los partidos… «ya arrancó!» pensaba por dentro.

- Volviendo a lo profesional… de todos los premios y reconocimientos que recibiste jugando en el seleccionado con Las Leonas ¿cuál considerás especial y por qué?

- Creo que todos fueron importantes, pero si tengo que elegir uno te diría el Olimpia del 2000 cuando ganamos el oro. Ganó «el equipo» y por eso es especial para mí.

- ¿Cuál fue el partido más difícil que les tocó jugar y contra quién?

- Te podría nombrar el Mundial de Australia del 2002 cuando jugamos contra las locales, defensoras del título en ese momento. Para mí las semifinales de los torneos son los partidos más difíciles. Son el pase a la final y ya de por sí generan esa adrenalina de lograr estar en el lugar donde sólo dos equipos son los privilegiados.

- ¿Cuánto influyó tu generación en este presente del hockey argentino?

- La del 2000, que es la más conocida, y la anterior son generaciones que fueron armando lo que es hoy el hockey femenino en nuestro país. Con el tiempo se hicieron más conocidas, se llamaron «Las Leonas» y fueron mejorando y perfeccionándose. Se logró una mística de equipo que es la base de la generación actual. La clave está en que los recambios eran paulatinos, siempre había grandes y jóvenes, lo que permitía que las de mayor experiencia le marcaran el

camino a las que recién empezaban.

- ¿Cómo ves a la selección argentina para estos juegos olímpicos?

- Las veo muy bien, es un equipo sólido, son jugadoras chicas que, si bien 11 de ellas van a vivir su primer juego olímpico, vienen con mucha experiencia y un mundial ya ganado, a diferencia de lo que me pasó a mí que fui con muy pocos partidos jugados a nivel internacional. Están bien preparadas, tienen todas las de ganar.

- Estás haciendo radio y vas a comentar hockey por la tele durante los juegos olímpicos, ¿Cómo es tu experiencia de trabajar en los medios?

- Siempre digo que no nací pensando que iba a trabajar en esto, de hecho soy nutricionista, nada que ver. Lo hago porque me gusta y pienso que mientras esté cómoda con mis compañeros y los proyectos, bienvenido sea. En ESPN estoy feliz, hay un grupo humano espectacular, la pasamos bárbaro. Siempre me gustaron los proyectos en los que estuve, sino no los hubiese aceptado. Obviamente lo tomo para un futuro y espero seguir creciendo en todo esto.

- ¿Cómo te imaginas que hubiese sido tu vida si no hubieses sido una leona?

- La verdad no sé cómo hubiese sido, mi vida giró siempre alrededor del hockey y desde chiquita me moví en ese ámbito. Me cuesta pensar en

otra cosa, volvería a elegirlo una y mil veces.

- ¿Qué soñás para vos y tus hijos?

- Sueño poder inculcarles lo que a mí me tocó vivir y me hizo tan feliz durante muchos años, obviamente después ellos elegirán lo que les gusta hacer cuando sean grandes. Así como a mí me llevaron a probar al club a ver si me gustaba el hockey, me encantaría que mis hijos se enganchen con un deporte, que tomen los valores del juego en equipo, que puedan ganar amistades en ese ambiente, como yo pude hacerlo. Lo importante es que sean quienes quieran ser y nosotros, como padres, poder estar con ellos para apoyarlos en todo

- What did it mean to you to wear the Argentinean jersey for so many years?

- I think any sportsman dreams of playing for their National Team. For me, it was a great honor and I am really proud of having worn it. It was an unforgettable experience and I always say that if I was born again, I would choose it all over again because it made me very happy and I enjoyed it immensely.

hanks to her efforts and talent, she wore Las Leonas’ (Argentina’s National Team) jersey for 16 years until she became its Captain. Her experience in the sports world has helped her become an icon in Argentinean female hockey and her personal projects as a woman made her want to become a mom to Rocco and Indiana. After she retired from the National Team she went back to her origins: the Belgrano Athletic Club, where she had started her career at 7 years old. Today, «Magui» Aicega confesses that trainings and her job as a journalist in radio and TV keep her grounded because they connect her with her most intimate passion: her love for sports.

- You started playing hockey when you were little. When did you realize it was more for you than just a hobby?

- Because it was close to our home, my parents took me to the Belgrano Club when I was 7 to try hockey and see if I liked it and I fell in love with it straight away. When I was young I dreamt about playing in the club’s first division, I always knew hockey was my thing.

- How did you decide to quit the National Team?

- I decided to retire to give closure to a part of my life, not because I didn’t want to play anymore. I had gotten married and as any other woman, I had new projects… When you are a high-performance player, your whole life revolves around hockey and training. Today, I’m still playing -in the first division of my childhood’s club- and even though I still compete, I miss the National Team. All the same, I’m convinced this a different moment of my life and it is ok for it to be like this.

- Did motherhood have anything to do with your decision? How do you find the time to train?

- It is not like I retired to have children but rather to do other things with my life. I wasn’t tired of playing hockey; I was ready for something else. I train three times a week late in the evening, so I get my kids ready –they dine and take a bath before I leave- and by the time I come back, they are ready for bed. I make myself time to train because it is what keeps me grounded, besides work. I enjoy it lots, especially Saturday matches because I can take them to see me play.

- You must really enjoy sharing your passion with your kids, then…

- Absolutely. I started playing at 7 and today I enjoy it with them – although they are still too young to understand (she laughs). My baby girl was 4 months old when she attended her first match. I kept thinking: «And so it begins…»

- Back to your professional life, out of all the awards and prizes you received playing with Las Leonas, which is the most special to you and why?

- I think they were all important, but if I had to choose, I’d say the Olympia 2000 when we won the gold. It was an award for the whole team and that is what makes it special for me.

- Which one was the hardest match you ever played?

- I’d say Australia’s World Cup in 2002 when we played against their National Team –who were defending the title. To me, semifinals are always the hardest matches because they are the ‘pass’ to the finals and they pump you with adrenaline knowing that only two privileged teams will make it.

- How much would you say your generation influenced the present of hockey in Argentina?

- The 2000 generation and the ones before that set the foundations for today’s female hockey in our country. In time we became more popular, they named us «Las Leonas» and we kept improving and perfecting our game. The current generation inherited that team mystique. I think the key is that substitutions were always gradual: at

any given time there were young and older players, which allowed the experienced ones to lead the way to the newer ones.

- How do you see the National Team for the coming Olympic Games?

- Great, they are a solid and young team and even though 11 of them will play their first Olympics, they have lots of experience and have even won a World Cup already. In my case, I had hardly any international experience when I went to my first Games so I think they are definitely prepared and have every odd in their favor.

- You are now on the radio and you will comment hockey on TV during the Olympic Games. How do you like working in the media?

- I never thought I would be doing this –in fact, I’m a certified

nutritionist, so not even close. I do it because I like it and as long as I have nice workmates and projects, I’ll enjoy myself. I’m happy working for ESPN, the human factor is amazing, we have fun together. I’ve always enjoyed the projects I’ve participated in, had I not, I wouldn’t had accepted them. I want to make a future out of this and I just want to improve and grow in the profession.

- What do you think you would have done had you not been a ‘Leona’?

- I have no idea, really. My whole life has revolved around hockey and ever since I was a little girl I’ve been part of that world. Like I said, if I was born again, I’d do it all over again.

- What do you dream for you and your kids?

- I dream I will be able to show

... them all the things that have made me so happy for so long and that they can then choose what they want to do when they grow up. I’d love to take them to a club like my parents did with me and have them try some sports to see if they like that kind of life. Sports are great, they will learn the values of being part of a team, they will make friends –just like I did. The important thing is for them to be who they want to be and for us as parents to be there for them every step of the way

GRAND OPENING OF IMPORTANT PUBLIC WORKS IN SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO En el marco de los actos por la celebración de los 459 años de la fundación de Santiago del Estero, el pasado 24 de julio tuvo lugar la inauguración del Aeropuerto Internacional de Termas de Río Hondo que, sin duda, potenciará aún más el desarrollo turístico de la localidad.

A partir del 24 de agosto habrá dos vuelos de Aerolíneas Argentinas, los días viernes y domingos, para el turismo de fin de semana entre Buenos Aires y esa ciudad.

La terminal tiene 1900 m2 de superficie distribuidos en dos niveles y un parking que suma 100 posiciones de estacionamiento.

Por otra parte, también se concretó el lanzamiento oficial del Fórum Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones, construido en la vieja Estación de Pasajeros del Ferrocarril Mitre. El mismo está situado en pleno casco céntrico de la ciudad en un predio ubicado entre las calles Perú, Rivadavia, Av. Roca y Chacabuco.

El proyecto recuperó el edificio de la estación, construido a fines del siglo XIX, a través de un trabajo de restauración que permitió salvaguardar la esencia original del diseño ecléctico con reminiscencias italianizantes, refuncionalizando su interior con criterios y tecnología actual.

El Fórum tiene una superficie cubierta del orden de los 2.500 m2 y cuenta con capacidad para albergar 3.000 personas.

As part of the celebrations for the 459 years since the establishment of Santiago del Estero, the Termas de Río Hondo International Airport opened on July, 24th and it will, undoubtedly, boost even more the touristic development of the city.

Starting on August, 24th there will be two weekly flights (Fridays and Sundays) with Aerolíneas Argentinas to increase weekend getaways between Buenos Aires and Santiago del Estero.

The terminal has a surface of 1900 m2 which cover two levels and a 100- spaces parking lot.

Additionally, the Fórum Convention and Expos Center has also been officially launched. It was built where the old Mitre Passengers Train Station used to be in the city center on the area between the Perú, Rivadavia, Roca Ave. and Chacabuco streets.

The project recuperated the station’s building –from the late XIX century- through restoration works that safeguarded the original essence of the eclectic design with Italian reminiscences by means of updating its interior with modern criteria and technology.

The Fórum has a covered surface of 2.500 m2 and it comfortably seats 3.000 people.
