l año termina, y AMURA Yachts and Lifestyle se despide de él con lo mejor y más exclusivo de la joyería para esta temporada, Nuestro Compás nos lleva al territorio de Yukón, ubicado en las tierras del norte, casi al final del mundo. En este viaje, admiraremos los paisajes naturales de montañas cubiertas de nieve, lagos misteriosos, ríos salvajes y la noble fauna que la habita, además de conocer a la gente que reside en esta región del mundo. Con todo y el invierno, los motores nunca se enfrían, y esto se demuestra con los tres bólidos que aparecen en este número. La firma italiana Faralli & Mazzanti nos otorga el Evantra, una obra automotriz de soberbias líneas que fusionan lo clásico con lo contemporáneo. Asimismo, Hennessey nos presenta el Venom GT Spyder, que basta decir que es un convertible equipado con un motor V8 listo para superar los 400 kilómetros por hora. Ferrari no podía quedarse atrás, y continúa el legado del ya clásico 599 GTB Fiorano con el nuevo 599 GTO, de motor V12. El frío nunca será impedimento para poder disfrutar de un placentero viaje, y en este número, mostramos tres opciones para cruzar el océano. El Quinta Essentia de Heesen nos ofrece espacio, comodidad y desempeño en un imponente casco de 180 pies de eslora. Our Compass leads to the Yukon Territory, located in the northern lands, near the end of the world. On this trip, we admire the natural landscapes of snow-capped mountains, mysterious lakes, wild rivers and the noble wildlife that inhabits it, as well as to know the people living in this region of the world. Never mind the winter, the engines never cool, and we demonstrate this with the three automobiles that appear in this issue. A
l norte, donde los días nunca borran la luz en el verano y las noches son eternas en invierno, encontré la aventura en su estado natural, la última frontera de la Fiebre del Oro. Aquí los fantasmas de los grandes pioneros se deslizan en las calles de Whitehorse y el barco SS Klondike reina a la orilla del río Yukón, con su elegante silueta de madera y su gran rueda trasera, como testigo del pasado. Yukón es un lugar fascinante donde los grandes espacios se abren sobre un horizonte que se pinta de fuego en los días eternos, alumbrados por una luz tenue que se escurre sobre las montañas habitadas por los osos, y deslumbra con colores verdes por las auroras boreales de las noches perdurables cuando los osos duermen. Habíamos terminado nuestra navegación por los fiordos de British Columbia hasta Prince Ruppert Island y de regreso a Vancouver, decidí conocer Yukón, a tan sólo dos horas y media de vuelo. Al llegar a Whitehorse, sentí que mi sangre fluía más lentamente en mi cuerpo como para apaciguar mi mente, relajar mis músculos y hacerme un hombre nuevo que dejaba el tumulto de las ciudades atrás. El mundo se había detenido, el disturbio de los coches se había quedado atrás y sólo se quedaban los ecos de la Fiebre del Oro que había habitado esa región tan remota de la tierra.

o the north, where days never erase the light in summer and nights are eternal in winter, I found adventure on its pure state, the last frontier of the Gold Rush. Here, the ghosts of the great pioneers glide on the streets of Whitehorse, and the SS Klondike reigns on the edge of the Yukon River, with its elegant wooden silhouette and its large rear wheel as witness of the past. Yukon is a fascinating place where big spaces open on a fire painted horizon in the eternal days, illuminated by a dim light that slips over the bear inhabited mountains, and dazzles with the green aurora borealis of the everlasting nights when bears sleep. We finished sailing the British Columbia fjords to Prince Rupert Island, and on our way back to Vancouver, I decided to meet Yukon, only two hours and a half on flight. Arriving to Whitehorse, I felt my blood flowing slowly in my body to pacify my mind, relax my muscles and make me a new man that was leaving the city turmoil behind. The world had stopped, the car movement was far behind and the only thing left were the echoes of the Golden Rush that once inhabited that remote place of the Earth.

Saliendo del aeropuerto, encontré un águila calva que reinaba sobre el universo desde su nido, a la entrada de la ciudad mientras el SS Klondike vigilaba, desde su amarre en tierra, los recuerdos de cuando navegaba los ríos y lagos, única unión con el mundo externo. Los espacios no tienen límites, las montañas brillan con las últimas nieves, el Miles Canyon devora el agua del Yukon River como para absorber los recuerdos de los que habían desafiado los rápidos cuando existían. Hoy, una represa había pacificado las aguas. Dos calles de una docena de cuadras recorren la ciudad, partiendo de la Main Street donde se animan algunos bares y una fabulosa librería, al lado del restaurante Klondike Ribs & Salmon que atrae los comensales. La luz del día nunca desaparece, el sol se pone a las 12 de la media noche y surge a las 3 de la mañana, dejando siempre un resplandor en el ambiente. Visitando las calles de Whitehorse, descubrí sus fabulosas pinturas murales, los 3 bares importantes, observaba cómo la gente vivía una vida normal a esas horas de una noche que no existía, y cuando me fui al hotel, el resplandor me decía que era momento de cerrar los ojos. Me sentía feliz en ese mundo desconocido, frío aunque fuese el verano, luminoso y delicado.

Outside the airport, I found a bald eagle that ruled the Universe from its nest at the entrance of the city while the SS Klondike watched, from her mooring on the ground, memories of the times when she sailed rivers and lakes, the only nexus with the outside world. Spaces are unlimited, mountains shine with the last traces of snow, the Miles Canyon devours the waters of the Yukon as if trying to absorb the memories of those who defied the rapids when they existed. Today, a dam pacifies the waters. Two streets of a dozen blocks cross the city part from the Main Street where some pubs and a fabulous bookstore offer a lively atmosphere next to the Klondike Ribs & Salmon restaurant, attracting customers. Daylight never fades; sun sets at midnight and comes out at three o’clock in the morning, always leaving a glow in the environment. Visiting Whitehorse streets, I discovered its fabulous murals, the three important pubs, watched people living normal lives at those hours of an nonexistent night, and when I went to the hotel, a shine told me it was time to close my eyes. I felt happy in that unknown world, cold even if it was summer, light and delicate.

Partrige Pass y Frantic Follies A las 6 de la mañana ya estaba listo para dar una vuelta a la orilla del río mientras me observaba el águila. Temprano pasó Charlie por mí con su jeep y nos fuimos hacia el sur, entre paisajes suntuosos de montañas nevadas y lagos que enmarcaban el bosque boreal con árboles largos y delgados con más de 200 años de edad. Nos detuvimos en Robinson Roadhouse, un antiguo puesto de comercio con sus cabañas construidas con los troncos de piceas, junto a la vía del tren que unía White Pass a Yukon River, adornada con los postes del telégrafo. Por aquí pasaron aventureros que buscaban oro y otros tesoros, con esperanzas de riqueza. Los muros de madera a medio caer y los techos a punto de irse al suelo retumbaban las historias de esos pioneros que iban hacia la última frontera en la Fiebre del Oro de Klondike. Roadhouse era como un hotel donde descansaban los mineros en camino hacia la Yukon River y tenía un salón donde ocurrían diversión y peleas. Fue un lugar famoso en su tiempo y su dueño, William Robinson era conocido como el “contundente y sin rodeos”. Dejando el fantasma del pasado, nos internamos por una carretera de tierra, pasando el río que corría como un torrente y donde observamos unas cabras salvajes con su largo pelo blanco que caminaban en los altos acantilados. Empezamos a subir por un camino cada vez más duro entre el bosque para llegar al Partrige Pass Passage donde esperábamos ver unos caribúes u osos pero no había actividad ninguna y sólo las placas de nieve refle-
Partrige Pass and Frantic Follies At 6 am I was ready for a walk at the edge of the river while the eagle watched me. Charlie picked me up early and we went to the south, amidst lush snowy mountains and lakes that framed the boreal forest with long, thin trees more than 200 years old. We stopped at Robinson Roadhouse, an ancient commerce post, with cabins built of spruce logs, next to the railway pass linking White Pass to Yukon River, decorated with telegraph poles. Many adventurers came here searching gold and other treasures, in hopes of wealth. The wooden walls and ceilings about to fall echoed the histories of pioneers who went to the last frontier of the Gold Rush of Klondike. Roadhouse was like a hotel where miners rested on their way to Yukon River, and it had a saloon where fun and fights took place. It was a famous place on its time, and his owner, William Robinson, was known as “strong and blunt”. Leaving the ghost of the past, we entered a dirt road, passing the river that flowed like a stream and where we saw wild goats with long white hair that walked on the high cliffs. We started to climb down an increasingly tough path through the forest to get to Partrige Passage Pass, where we expected to see caribous or bears, but there was no activity. Only the snow reflecting tha clouds that roamed the sky. We kept going up, watching the

Después de cenar en Klondike Ribs & Salmon, gozando de su ambiente del lejano oeste, me instalé en el teatro para ver el show “Frantic Follies”, un Vaudeville con sabor de los años 1900 que relata lo que los pioneros de la gran aventura en Klondike habían vivido. El show existe desde hace más de 30 años, y el teatro se llena con los visitantes ávidos de naturaleza e historia. Cuando regresé al hotel, el sol brillaba en el horizonte y a media noche se pintó el cielo de un viento anaranjado, surgido de la fantasía de un pintor.
Fish Lake and Lake Snafu The next day we went to Lake Snafu, where there were few people. After entering to the water without boat, we sailed through the maze of the lake, watching the bald eagles nesting in the reeds and threw our hooks all day, under an unforgiving sun that warmed us, looking at the beavers building their aquatic dens called Beaver Lodge and achieved to fish eight pikes that we returned to the water. It was just for the glory and fun of fishing. The lake was divine, and it was a

fabulous scenery, including mountains and high valleys to the limit of vegetation. It was an extraordinary place; the cool breeze ran through my limbs, my cheeks were frozen, but it was worth being in that rugged tundra-covered summit and enjoy the sight of a perfect world. We finally had to take the way back to get to Whitehorse at the end of the afternoon when the sun was shining. After dinner at Klondike Ribs & Salmon, enjoying its Wild West atmosphere, I went to the theater to see the show “Frantic Follies”, Vaudeville with a taste of 1900 that tells what the pioneers of the great adventure had lived in Klondike. The show has been around for over 30 years, and the theater is filled with visitors, eager of nature and history. When I returned to the hotel, the sun shone on the horizon, and at midnight the sky was painted with an orange wind, sprung from the imagination of a painter.

un día maravilloso donde convivimos con la naturaleza, y esos grandes pescados de manchas negras. Regresamos a Whitehorse a las 7 y tomé mi coche para alcanzar el Fish Lake, que se encuentra a media hora de Whitehorse, en el paralelo 60o 37´. Me esperaba un paisaje señorial con el lago rodeado por montañas nevadas cuyos pies estaban cubierto de bosque y donde nadaban unos patos. Al llegar, el sol alumbraba las cimas y el lago, el alto valle que observábamos era fabuloso, hundido en la penumbra, donde unos caribúes paseaban. Los caballos subían, intrépidos, y llegamos a la cima cubierta de nieve para observar el sol de las 11 de la noche que pintaba las cimas con colores ocres, jugueteando con las cimas y las nubes. Cuando bajamos al lago, las montañas se pintaban de amarillos y rojos artificiales y el sol bajaba en el horizonte. Era el famoso sol de media noche que surge de los cuentos, que alumbra el polo norte y nos guía en la tundra. Cuando llegué al hotel, el sol había desaparecido, pero la claridad seguía, inmóvil.
wonderful day when we coexisted with nature, and those big fish with black spots. We returned to Whitehorse at 7 and took my car to reach Fish Lake, which is half an hour of Whitehorse,in the parallel 60o 37‘. A noble landscape expected me, with a lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains whose feet were covered with forest, where ducks swam. Upon arrival, the sun illuminated the peaks and the lake; the high valley we were observing was fabulous and deep in the shadows, where some caribou walked. The horses came up, daring, and arrived to the snowy summit to watch the 11 PM sun that painted the mountains with ocher, playing with them and the clouds. When we got to the lake, the mountains were painted yellow and artificial red and the sun went down on the horizon. It was the famous midnight sun emerging from the stories, bringing light to the north pole and guided us in the tundra. When I arrived to the hotel, the sun had disappeared,but the clarity was still motionless.
Skagway, White Pass y Inn on The Lake El tercer día, tomamos el Alaska Highway, nos desviamos en el Llondike Highway y pasamos por el soberbio Emerald Lake, con su color esmeralda que surge de una pizca de paraíso, rodeado de árboles, y al pie de montañas nevadas que se reflejaban en el agua con color del famoso jade de Yukón. Pasamos por el Spirit Lake, otra belleza de esa generosa naturaleza, antes de llegar a un pequeño desierto de dunas de arena surgidas de otro mundo, como puestas en ese lugar para recordar que también existen paisajes pobres y amarillos en ese panorama hermoso y verde. Skagway, White Pass and Inn on The Lake The third day, we took the Alaska Highway, took a turn on Llondike Highway and passed the magnificent Emerald Lake, with its peculiar color coming from a corner of paradise, surrounded by trees, and at the foot of snowy mountains that are reflected in the famous jade colored water of Yukon. We passed by the Spirit Lake, another beauty of that generous nature, before reaching a small sand dune desert that emerged from another world, placed there to remind us that there are also poor and yellow sights in this beautiful green landscape. We reached the small town of Carcross, with a population of 431 inhabitants, mostly from Tagish First Nation. Some dunes adorned the entrance to the village of buildings taken from western movies, arranged between Bennett and Nares lakes.

y Nares. Se respiraba una atmósfera del pasado, pasaban los fantasmas de los aventureros por las calles polvorientas, se escuchaban los disparos de las disputas entre ellos. Seguimos la carretera que pasa a lo largo del lago Tutshi en donde encontramos nuestro primer oso negro que estaba comiendo las flores del campo, feliz de tener tanta comida y disfrutando el sol. Continuamos hacia White Pass, alcanzando un alto valle donde la nieve cubría las laderas de las montañas y los pequeños lagos salpicaban el altiplano. Pasamos la frontera canadiense en Fraser y 7 km adelante, la frontera de Estados Unidos para entrar en Alaska, dejando la cima de White Pass a 1000 m de altura. Visitamos un impresionante puente colgante sobre un río tormentoso. Bajamos hasta alcanzar Skagway, al final de un hermoso fiordo donde atracan los grandes cruceros. El pueblo ha conservado el aire de antaño, del tiempo de la Fiebre del Oro, con sus casas de madera, las boutiques de madera que venden elegantes joyas, y la estación de tren. The atmosphere was of past times, and one could almost hear the ghosts of adventurers treading on the dusty streets and the shots of the disputes between them. We followed the road which runs along the lake Tutshi where we found our first black bear that was eating the flowers of the field, happy to have so much food and enjoying the sun. We continued to White Pass, reaching a high valley where snow covered the slopes of the mountains and small lakes dotted the plateau. We left the Canadian border on Fraser and 7 km later, the United States border into Alaska, leaving the top of White Pass at 1000 min height. We visited an impressive suspension bridge over a stormy river. We went down to Skagway, at the end of a beautiful fjord where large cruise ships dock. The village has preserved an air of past times of the Gold Rush, with its wooden houses, boutiques that sell elegant wooden jewelry, and the train station. After a walk in the village and the marina, I boarded the train to Fraser. The trip was magnificent; we followed the mighty Skagway river that cuts its way through rapids and waterfalls, rocky mountains and a caribou watching the train jiggle to the rhythm of the wheels, from dizzying bridges and mysterious tunnels.

Posteriormente, descubrimos un oso grizzli que estaba comiendo flores y llenaba su cara de semillas de dientes de león, pereceando en la sombra. Era un animal joven, majestuoso e imponente, aunque delicado. Al seguir, llegamos al lago Nares para observar patos, más adelante encontré otro oso negro, y seguí el camino para alcanzar el lago Marsh donde me hospedé en el Inn on The Lake. Later, we discovered a grizzly bear that was eating the flowers with its face filled with dandelion seeds, resting in the shade. It was a young animal, majestic and imposing, but delicate. Then, we arrived to Nares Lake to observe ducks; later I found another black bear, and followed the road to reach Lake Marsh where I stayed at the Inn on The Lake. The sun was on the horizon, the mountains shone in the gray midnight landscape, the birds were singing and enjoying the dim light of the sun that never ends, that everlasting day.

Whitehorse and Takhini River Lodge Light woke me up at 4 am, and in my interrupted dream I remembered the previous day’s images. I woke up, opening my eyes on the lake that glittered with the diamonds of the horizontal sun, and then I heard the verses of Robert Service in my head: “The happiest man I ever Knew / Lives in a forest glade.” I enjoyed my breakfast on the sparkling lake and went back to Whitehorse to visit Beringia Interceptive Center, where I admired the fossils of a mammoth, horses and strange animals that inhabited the region long ago. I treated myself to a trip

to the past, enjoying the Museum of Transport and imagining the lives of pioneers and adventurers who challenged the great north. I was thrilled with the old log church that witnessed weddings and funerals. Later, I ate some delicious ribs and visited the ladder for salmon and other fish that migrate to return to the lakes. This Fish ladder is placed aside of the dam and it looks impressive because of the size. The fish climb a waterfall made of wood until they reach a flat channel that leads to Lake Schwatsa and the Yukon River. Then I boarded the MV Schwatsa, a small boat that took me on a dream traveling the Miles Canyon, with walls that enclosed dangerous rapids, challenged by the brave men who went in search of gold. After a stroll through the streets of Whitehorse, I headed north and discovered the jade colored Takhini River, and went to soak in its hot springs that revitalize the body while breathing the fresh air of the forest. I finally arrived to Takhini River Lodge, a beautiful luxurious house in the countryside surrounded by mountains. I was the owner of the world; mountains and forests were mine and hugged me. As I was watching the midnight sun from my window, a bald eagle screamed in the distance, another flew over the trees and finally a grizzly emerged from the distant forest to cross the prairie that was submerged in the eternal twilight. The full moon came out of the horizon to caress the mountains, magical and overwhelming, traveling horizontally. “Wilderness and vast are my borders,” as Service had said.

Haines Junction y osos Al día siguiente, mi primera visita fue al Yukon Wildlife Preserve, donde los animales de la región tienen un refugio para desarrollarse en su hábitat natural dentro de una reserva protegida. Pude admirar de cerca los bisontes, los alces, venados buras, caribúes, zorros, ovejas de Dall, cabras de las montañas con su pelo largo, y unos hermosos linces como los extraños y raros bueyes almizcleros. Siguiendo mi camino, me detuve para platicar con Charlie Muskut, que eleva sus perros de trineos y ofrece paseos en invierno bajo el cielo que se ilumina con auroras boreales que juegan con colores artificiales derivados de fenómenos naturales. Y qué mejor paseo que el de un hombre que ha participado en la Yukon Quest, una carrera en trineo de perros a través de 1000 millas, entre Whitehorse y Fairbanks. Después seguí mi camino en el desolado Alaska Highway que sigue la cadena de montañas nevadas, desviándome en ellas para descubrir el soberbio lago Kusawa, que adorna un gigantesco valle dentro de esas montañas que se reflejan en sus aguas de manera majestuosa. Haines Junction and bears The next day was my first visit to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, a haven for the animals of the region where they can live in their natural habitat within a protected reserve. I could closely admire bison, elks, Bura deers, caribous, foxes, Dall sheep, mountain goats with long hair, a beautiful lynx and the strange and rare musk oxen. Going my way, I stopped to talk to Charlie Muskut, who brings his dog sled and offers winter rides under the sky colored with northern lights that play with artificial colors derived from natural phenomena. And there is no best ride than that of a man who has participated in the Yukon Quest, a dog sled race across 1000 miles between Whitehorse and Fairbanks. After that, I kept my way in the desolate Alaska Highway that follows the chain of snowy mountains, turning off at them to discover the superb lake Kusawa, which adorns a huge valley in the mountains majestically reflected in its waters. Following the ridge, I arrived to The Cabin, a place of cottages hidden in the forest, in front of the snowy peaks. I imagined myself as Davy Crockett, the trapper in the woods. I felt the adventure, breathed freedom; I was immersed in nature and felt

Comían flores y hojas. Me observaban, y yo no me cansaba de admirarlos, maravillosos e imponentes hasta que desaparecieron tranquilamente. Hubiera podido pasar la noche viéndolos. De regreso encontré un hermoso oso negro de pelaje brilloso que se paró para observarme, aunque más desafiante.
Ice field I woke up without knowing the darkness; the light awoke me and I enjoyed that eternal day. After a fabulous breakfast in the woods, I went back to Haines Junction to board a raft and get carried away by the stream of the Dezadeash, and watch the ducks, a moose that grazed at the shore and

excited with that scenery . The night never came, and I preferred to explore the area. At 9 I crossed the highway to the south and went through the tiny village of First Nation People, Klukshu, with some wooden huts from where smoke came out. I admired the landscape enclosed by snowy mountains, and found a coyote that, looking for food, finally caught a mouse. The sky was painted red and at 11 o’clock in the night, along the road, I suddenly discovered 3 grizzlies, a mother with her 2 children. They were beautiful, with beige hair, and resembled teddy bears. They were eating wild flowers and leaves. I could not get tired of watching and admiring them, stunning and impressive, until they disappeared quietly. I would have spent the night watching them. On my way back, I found a beautiful bear with a black shiny coat, which stopped to watch me defiantly.

cisnes de trompeta que preparaba su nido. Volaron al vernos, como un verdadero baile que flotaba en el aire, como una elegante música. Después de un paseo soberbio con vista a las montañas, alcanzamos el pueblo y me dirigí al pequeño aeropuerto para subirme a la avioneta de Clint y sobrevolamos uno de los campos de hielo no polar más grandes del mundo. Fue una travesía llena de extraños volúmenes, de olas rizadas del hielo en movimiento, de avalanchas y de caminos gigantescos donde corre el viejo hielo formado hace siglos atrás. Las cimas competían en altura, observamos el monte Logan de 5,959 metros, el más alto de América del Norte después del monte McKinley (6,198 metros), que se encuentra en Alaska. Los glaciares han creado unos caminos que serpentean entre las montañas, diseñando unos ríos de hielo con fisuras, fallas y pliegues impresionantes. El espectáculo era fabuloso y soberbio en ese campo de hielo, que se derrite para formar los ríos que corren hacia el Pacífico. Tomé de nuevo el Highway hacia el sur con la meta de conocer más osos, solamente encontré un enorme puercoespín. Descubrí la Million Dollar Falls, una hermosa cascada que baja en un estrecho cañón en medio del bosque boreal y la carretera sube hasta entrar en British Columbia y alcanzar el paso helado rodeado de cimas nevadas de Tatshenshini-Alsek y Kluane.
some swans getting their nests ready. They flew at us like dancers in a ball floating in the air, like an elegant music. After a walk with superb views of the mountains, we reached the village and went to the small airport to get on Clint’s plane, and flew over one of the largest non-polar ice fields of the world. It was a journey full of strange bodies, curly waves, moving ice, avalanche and huge roads of ice formed centuries ago. The peaks challenged each other in heights; we saw Mount Logan with 5959 meters, the tallest in North America after Mount McKinley (6198 meters), located in Alaska. Glaciers have created some roads that wind through the mountains, drawing a river of ice cracks, and impressive grooves and folds. The view was fabulous and superb in that ice field, which melts to form rivers flowing toward the Pacific. I took back the Highway to the south in hopes of meeting more bears, but I only found a huge porcupine crossing the road. I discovered the Million Dollar Falls, a beautiful waterfall coming down in a narrow canyon in the middle of the boreal forest, and the road climbs up into British Columbia and reach the icy path surrounded by the snowy peaks of Tatshenshini-Alsek and Kluane.

En mi cabaña, soñaba con las imágenes de ese fabuloso día, sobrevolando los glaciares al borde de la tierra. Del otro lado del pacífico, las horas cambian y es el día siguiente. Yukón es verdaderamente el margen del mundo.
In my cabin, I was dreaming with the images of that fabulous day, flying over glaciers at the edge of the Earth. On the other side of the Pacific, the hours change and suddenly it’s the next day. Yukon is truly the limit of the world.
Aflek Trail y Kluane Lake Los pájaros me despertaron a las 3:30 de la madrugada y seguí mi sueño en la claridad. Me levanté después para ir a caminar por el Aflek trail, un poco al norte de Haines Junction. Al meternos en el camino, nos encontramos con seis bisontes de las montañas, de color más oscuro, se asustaron y se desvanecieron en el bosque. Al seguir nuestro camino en ascenso, pasamos por las rocas y el bosque, nos encontramos con un Willow Ptarmigan que trataba de espantarnos al parar su cola y gritar. Descubrimos unas extrañas formaciones que eran bolas de arena compactada naturales, un sortilegio del hábitat. Seguíamos el torrente que baja de las cimas nevadas, algunas piedras eran como jade, el paisaje era fabuloso y gozábamos de esa soledad rodeados por bosque, picos gigantescos, torrentes dentro del reino vegetal y animal. Se me enchinaba la piel y nuestro guía Brent nos explicaba el nombre de las maravillosas flores que salpicaban el suelo, azules, rosas, amarillas, blancas, y cómo este río desembocaba en el Dezadeash, que a su vez atravesaba las altas montañas para alcanzar el Pacífico. Después de ese soberbio trekking, me dirigí hacia el norte para alcanzar el lago Kluane que se encontraba en ese momento como un espejo, inmóvil, como una imagen sin movimiento. Las montañas se reflejaban en la superficie como para mirarse y confirmar que eran gloriosas. El sol de la tarde alumbraba el lago y los picos nevados, cuyo reflejo en el agua parecía más real que el original.
Aflek Trail and Kluane Lake The birds woke me up at 3:30 in the morning, and I continued to dream in the clarity. I got up later to go take a walk to Aflek Trail, a little north of Haines Junction. When we entered the road, we found 6 mountain bison, dark colored, they got scared and fled to the forest. Following our road up, we passed by some rocks and the forest and found a Ptarmigan Willow that was trying to scare us by moving its tail and screaming. We found some strange shapes that were composed by naturally compacted sand balls; a magic trick of the habitat. We followed the stream that goes down from the snow-capped peaks, and saw jade-like stones, a fabulous landscape and enjoyed that solitude surrounded by the forest, gigantic peaks and streams within the plant and animal kingdom. I had goosebumps and Brent, our guide, explained to us the names of the wonderful flowers that dotted the floor; blue, pink, yellow, white, and how this river flowed into the Dezadeash, which in turn went through the mountains to reach the Pacific. After this sombre trekking, I went to the north to reach Kluane Lake, which resembled a mirror in that moment, completely motionless. The mountains were reflected on the surface, as if they wanted to look at themselves and confirm their majesty. The afternoon sun lighted the lake and the snowy peaks, which reflected in the water looking more real.

Continué mi activa noche para llegar a la zona donde encontraba los osos; tomé el camino hacia el pueblo de Klukshu y encontré un oso negro. Era soberbio. Caminé junto a él un momento, no se molestaba, comía flores y hierbas, le tomaba fotos, mientras que yo sentía mi corazón latir con fuerza. No traía repelente para osos, pero confiaba en que nunca me iba a hacer daño. Siguiendo por el Highway, encontré un grizzli que se escondió en el bosque y me sorprendió mucho encontrar otro grizzli comiendo cerca de un oso negro. Se miraban de vez en cuando pero no se agredían, comían echando una mirada al otro y después a mí, pero no se molestaban. Me quedaba esa vez en el coche, gozando de ese maravilloso encuentro.
I continued with my active night to arrive to the zone where bears can be found; I took the path to Kluksh village and saw a black bear. It was superb. I walked next to him for a moment and he did not startle. He ate flowers and herbs, and as I was photographing him, my heart was pounding. Although I didn’t have bear repellent with me, I trusted he would never hurt me. Going forward on the highway, I found a grizzly that hid on the forest and I was very surprised to find yet another one, eating next to a black bear. They looked at each other every once in a while, but they didn’t fight. They ate looking at themselves and at me alternatively, but they were quiet. I stayed in the car and enjoyed that wonderful encounter.
Al norte de Burwash Landing y Kathleen Lake El sol me levantaba como siempre, instalado en su claridad eterna. Seguía las hermosas montañas y el lago hacia el norte hasta llegar al pueblo de Destruction bay, un lugar olvidado del mundo, cuyo nombre se debe a la destrucción provocada por una tormenta en 1940. Finalmente llegué a Burwash Landing, un pueblo de First Nations que conserva la cultura Tutchone. I followed the beautiful mountains and the lake to the north until I reached the town of Destruction Bay, a forgotten place in the world. It had that name because of the wreckage caused by a storm in 1940. Finally, I arrived to Burwash Landing, a First Nations town that keeps the Tutchone culture. The signs are written in two languages. I also visited the Kluane Museum of Natural History, where one can enjoy the Tutchone craftsmanship as well as the best examples of the local fauna, stuffed and surrounded by the reconstructed habitat. In Kathleen Lake, I met with Brent and Ron, a Burwash Landing native and a typical First Nation person, whose ancestors inhabited those lands and some others, came from Europe. He told us stories of his grandparents and of the life as it was on the past, and we went to sail the beautiful, emerald colored lake; we watched a bald eagle on its nest, the green tones of the crystalline water and stopped at a pebble beach to visit a ruined, wooden cabin that belonged to Ron’s grandparents when they went to fish and hunt to the forest. We went up a road amidst an old avalanche to admire the lake, and a bear watched us quietly. The landscape was superb,

soberbio y se nos olvidaba el peligro, inmersos en la majestuosidad de la naturaleza. Seguí mi camino más hacia el sur, la lluvia empezaba a caer y el frío se instalaba. Me alojé en el hotel Dalton Trail Lodge, a la orilla del lago Dezadeash, un verdadero antro de pescadores con todo lujo, construido de madera al estilo del típico Lodge canadiense. La comida estaba deliciosa, unos impresionantes pescados disecados adornaban los muros, los hombres hablaban de trofeos y suculentas historias de pesca. A pesar del clima, emprendí mi viaje hacia el sur después de las 9, quedándome en la carretera porque la lluvia hacía los caminos muy difíciles. De repente, sorprendí un enorme grizzli que caminaba sobre el asfalto. Era una imagen surrealista, formidable. Lo seguí un rato hasta que entró en el bosque. and we forgot the danger, immersed in the majesty of nature. I kept going south, the rain started falling and the cold was increasing. I stayed at the Dalton Trail Lodge Hotel on the shores of Lake Dezadeash, a veritable den of fishermen luxury, built of wood in the style of typical Canadian Lodge. The food was delicious; some impressive stuffed fish adorned the walls, men talked about trophies and great fishing histories. In spite of the weather, I kept going to the south after 9, staying on the highway because the rain made the paths very difficult to travel. Suddenly, I saw an enormous grizzly that walked on the asphalt. It was a formidable, surrealistic image. I followed him for a while until he entered the forest. Soon I discovered another one that walked a little ahead on the woods, happily eating flowers and plants, and finally a huge black bear crossed the road to eat on the edge and disappear into the forest.

a time travel. I came back with the experiences that I had with the bears and completed my adventurer life, as the last pioneer of the final frontier. Yukon is a magical world with bears, glaciers and fascinating people with tramper tales, those who faced the toughest winters to invent history. Yukon is far more splendid than everyone says. I will come back some day to trace the steps of those who were seeking gold in the capital of the Gold Rush, Dawson City and its surroundings. uinta Essentia es un proyecto ideado por la empresa Nakhimov y Heesen, se trata de un navío construido completamente de aluminio de 55 metros de eslora que cuenta con la potencia para alcanzar una velocidad de 24 nudos a través de su par de motores de diesel MTU 20V 4000 M93L de 4.300 KW. El diseño de su exterior se describe apropiadamente con la palabra elegancia, abundan las curvas; el color blanco perla le otorga un aspecto lujoso y los detalles matizados en vino refinan una estética entre lo tradicional y lo vanguardista. Por dentro, el diseño sigue una línea temática: la concepción del quinto elemento. Esta embarcación hace alusión a la filosofía de los cuatro elementos griegos para crear un concepto de equilibrio clásico con un toque sofisticado que se manifiesta particularmente en los adornos. Una lámpara en forma de círculo aporta la luz amarilla que predomina en el lugar, propia del sol, del calor de la hoguera donde se preparan los alimentos, una de las virtudes aportadas por el elemento fuego. En la proa están dispuestos cinco camastros y una mesa en forma de medio círculo con asientos acomodados de la misma manera, un área para disfrutar de las cualidades refrescantes del elemento viento. Los salones destinados al gimnasio y al spa están igualmente cuidados, incluyen un sauna y una sala de masajes. La plataforma para los auxiliares es capaz de sumergirse para simplificar su botadura e izado a bordo. The lounge has also a television and a purple crescent moon shaped sofa, behind there is a wooden table with two chairs and white pillows decorated with engraved flowers, it is a place where the earth element manifests. The dining room consists of a circular table and twelve chairs, it is a compact space which concentrates all the possible comfort to enjoy the lunch, and is by far the most luxurious part of the yacht. A circle-shaped lamp adds the yellow light that dominates the site, proper of the sun and of the heat of the fire where food is prepared, one of the gifts provided by the fire element. In the bow, there are five chairs and a table in a half circle with seats arranged in the same way; it is an area to enjoy a drink and appreciate the refreshing qualities of the wind element. Rooms for the gym and spa are equally cared for, including a sauna and a massage room. The auxiliary platform is able to dive to simplify launching and hoisting on board. El blanco y el negro son suficientes para adornar una nave con líneas rectas, solemnes, adecuadas para desafiar las temperaturas extremas de la estación. Como el excepcional científico en honor a quien se nombró a este yate: Galileo Galilei, esta embarcación es excepcional, con sus 55 metros de eslora se posiciona como el mayor (en tamaño) de la serie Vitruvius hasta el momento. Tiene la clasificación “Ice-Class Explorer” lo que lo ubica en una clasificación única, con redundancia y pruebas para que los sistemas funcionen en fríos extremos. Tal es el caso, que éste es un barco que debió de cumplir con una denominación obligatoria conocida como “Winterization” lo que certifica que puede navegar en zonas caracterizadas por temperaturas muy bajas.

Desafortunadamente el dueño decidió no compartir ni imágenes interiores ni la distribución, pero basándonos en el hermano de Galileo G (el multigalardonado EXUMA) podemos deducir varios aspectos, como la calidad de los materiales y la funcionalidad de todo el interior, así como la belleza de los acabados. Estoy seguro de que Picchiotti (Perini Navi) se lució con el diseño interior tanto como con el exterior. Phillipe Briand utilizó su genio para llevar a la vida este precioso y poderoso yate. De lo que sí hay imágenes es del exterior que – sin lugar a dudas – es nada más que espectacularmente elegante, el contraste entre los tres colores predominantes: el azul del casco; el blanco de las franjas que recorren el casco, también es el color principal del resto de los elementos estructurales y de comunicaciones; por último el color inconfundible de la teca de la cubierta. Unfortunately, the owner decided not to share internal images or layouts but, based on sistership of Galileo G (the multiawarded EXUMA) we can assume several aspects such as material quality, functionality and the beauty of finishes. I’m confident that Picchiotti (Perini Navi) gave its best with the interior design as well as with the exterior design. Phillipe Briand used his genius to bring to life this beautiful and powerful yacht. However, exterior images are available, and without a doubt, she is no less than spectacularly elegant, contrast among three predominant colors: blue for the hull; white for the stripes that cover the low part of the hull which is also the color of the rest of the structural elements as well as communications; last the unmistakable color of teak all throughout the deck. All of this complimented with the chromed elements that are constantly in contact with mechanisms like anchors and fittings.

hen two companies with a long career or reputation behind them in their respective fields come together to bring to light a new concept, can only result in a masterpiece. This is how The Porsche Design Group and Royal Falcon Fleet come together to create a ship that combines an ultra modern appearance with functionality: the RFF135 Catamaran. Porsche Design did not venture in building yachts until 2007, when they collaborated with Fearless Yachts in the design of some of their speedboats, thus undoubtedly the RFF135 represents a step forward for the French firm. And although other car manufacturers like Audi and Volkswagen have also ventured into the sea, Porsche presents a mega yacht without equal. Unlike most yachts over 135 feet, the hull of the RFF135 is not made with the fiberglass base, but made entirely of aluminum. This is because only a material this endurable is required to reach the look of “spaceship on the water” which was projected from the planning concept. Thus, the yacht combines old elements, such as the catamaran configuration, with futuristic details.

uando dos compañías que tienen tras de sí una amplia trayectoria o renombre en sus respectivos campos se unen para llevar a la luz un nuevo concepto, no puede más que resultar en una obra maestra. Es así como The Porsche Design Group y Royal Falcon Fleet se unen para crear un navío que combina un aspecto ultra moderno con funcionalidad: el RFF135 Catamaran. Porsche Design no se aventuró en la creación de yates hasta el año 2007, cuando colaboró con Fearless Yachts en el diseño de algunas de sus lanchas rápidas, por lo que sin duda, el RFF135 representa un paso adelante para la firma francesa. Y aunque otras casas automotrices, como Audi o Volkswagen han también incursionado en el mar, Porsche presenta un mega yate que parece no tener igual. A diferencia de la mayoría de los yates de más de 135 pies, el casco del RFF135 no está elaborado con base en fibra de vidrio, sino totalmente de aluminio. Esto se debe a que sólo un material así de resistente se requería para lograr el aspecto de “nave espacial sobre el agua” que se tenía proyectado desde la planeación del concepto. De esta manera, el yate combina elementos antiguos, como la configuración del catamarán, con detalles futuristas.

La sensación de tener contacto con tecnología de otra época se siente más en la cabina, los controles están montados en un tablero gris en forma de media luna, el aspecto metálico de los marcos negros que rodean los aparatos de medición intimidan, dan la impresión de ser intocables, de que cualquier alteración podría truncar la expedición. Los dos asientos tienen un diseño práctico y están tapizados de cuero en blanco y gris, en general, el color de toda la embarcación, a excepción del piso de madera, está trabajado en una escala de grises de una manera magistral para dar una percepción atemporal. La descripción de la cabina de mando es indispensable ya que es esta parte la que sintetiza lo que es el resto de la creación: una estética vanguardista y lujosa que no necesita de grandes adornos para crear un ambiente elegante. Pero hay más: siguiendo con la línea de la funcionalidad, dentro de los 41 metros de eslora por 12 metros de manga del RFF135 Catamaran, hay espacio suficiente para recibir a 10 invitados y 10 tripulantes bajo cubierta y cuenta con una piscina que puede convertirse en helipuerto. Es capaz de viajar a 30 nudos ya que está equipado con dos motores turbodiésel MTU 16V4000 M93L que generan 4.600 caballos de fuerza, para alimentarlos se requiere de 750 litros de combustible por hora. There is a lounge adjacent to the master suit, in the middle there is a circular table with four chairs and two armchairs at the sides of the stern windows, that display a minimalist design. The silver tone stands on the backs of the seats and on the edge of the furniture, two small oval-shaped crystal tables, give a sophisticated appearance. For the guests three suits with their private bathroom are arranged, with tinted windows like the master bedroom. To socialize with them in the same deck, on the side of the bow, there is a room with a sofa on its center and other to the edge, with the shape of the quarter of a circle, is a comfortable space to maintain a pleasant chat, without solemnities and accompanied with a cocktail. At the other end there’s a larger room with a table in a “U” and two smaller sides, in front of them, on both sides of the entrance door, there are two TV screens to watch movies. I
’ve always been a follower of dreams and adventures, many times I have spent days at sea looking for the fishing myths and legends, like a cave full of sharks, some old galleons laden with precious jewels and even a German submarine. What I’ve been able to find are beautiful underwater scenery in which very few people have been, as well as spectacular wildlife. The story begins during a breakfast; I talk to my young friend Miguel Encalada, passionate lover of the sea and a great fisherman. He tells me that he moved to Campeche to put a fishing company, and who knows someone who knows of a sunken ship off the coast of this city, it would be a treat to explore. I thought the expedition would not give many results, just one more fishing story, as the sea swallows up ships, regardless of their size and leaves no trace of them, but it was better to explore than just keep wondering. In the days following we loaded the lightweight trailer with everything you need: compressor, tanks, life lines, lights, photography and video equipment, but above all, looking forward and hoping that the ship’s history was true. We check the weather conditions were good and went to Campeche by the modern highway that goes through Merida. On this occasion I was delighted with the company of my son Rodrigo, the cheerful Chema Lopez, and the incomparable Armando Gasse. On the way, strong summer rains made further lower the speed of our heavy truck. Still, we got on time to come to Merida to enjoy a breakfast of panuchos, tamales and papatzules, certainly prepared as nowhere else.

esde siempre he sido un seguidor de sueños y aventuras, son muchas las veces en que he pasado días en el mar buscando los mitos y leyendas de pescadores, como una cueva repleta de tiburones, algunos viejos galeones cargados de joyas preciosas y hasta un submarino alemán. Lo que he podido encontrar son unos paisajes submarinos bellísimos en los cuales poca gente ha estado, así como fauna y flora espectaculares. La historia empieza cuando en un desayuno, platico con mi joven y apasionado amigo Miguel Encalada, amante del mar y un gran pescador. Me comenta que se fue a vivir a Campeche a poner una empresa de pesca deportiva, y que conoce a alguien que sabe de un barco hundido frente a las costas de esa ciudad, que sería bueno irlo a explorar. Pensé que la expedición no daría muchos resultados, una historia más de pescadores, pues el mar se traga los navíos, sin importar su tamaño y no deja la menor huella de ellos, pero era mejor salir a explorarlo que quedarnos con la duda. En los días siguientes cargamos el ligero remolque con todo lo necesario: compresor, tanques, líneas de vida, luces, equipos de fotografía y video, pero sobre todo, muchas ganas e ilusiones de que fuera cierta la historia del barco. Checamos que las condiciones del tiempo fueran buenas y salimos para Campeche por la moderna autopista que pasa por Mérida. En esta ocasión me dio mucho gusto que me acompañara mi hijo Rodrigo, el alegre Chema López, y el incomparable Armando Gasse. En el trayecto, unos fuertes aguaceros de verano hacían que bajáramos más la velocidad de nuestra pesada camioneta. Aun así llegamos a tiempo a la blanca Mérida para disfrutar de un desayuno con base en panuchos, tamales y papatzules, que en ningún otro lugar los preparan como en esa tierra.

En busca del náufrago El tráfico se volvió menos intenso cuando tomamos la autopista que nos llevaría a nuestro destino final, la ciudad amurallada de Campeche. No habíamos llegado aún cuando recibí la llamada de Miguel y me decía que todavía había luz suficiente para visitar uno de sus fuertes y quizá ver el atardecer desde sus murallas repletas de cañones. Nuestro apuro valió la pena, pues esos atardeceres desde un fuerte lleno de historia no es frecuente verlos en mi querido Cancún. Estábamos ansiosos de que nos contara la historia del barco que queríamos explorar, cosa que hizo mientras cargábamos la embarcación en la que nos moveríamos el día siguiente. Después del chequeo que le hicimos a nuestra lancha y ver que tuviera suficiente gasolina, y sobre todo, dejar a un marinero para que cuidara nuestros equipos. Nos dispusimos a ir a cenar unos mariscos de los que los campechanos están tan orgullosos. La noche fue corta. Cuando el despertador sonó a las 4 de la mañana nosotros ya estábamos levantados y listos. El aire de la madrugada era muy agradable, el cielo estaba estrellado como pocas veces y las estrellas se mostraban maravillosas, mientras nosotros nos hacíamos a la mar para recorrer las 45 millas náuticas que nos separaban de nuestra meta. Las olas apenas se levantaban unos cuantos centímetros cuando el sol apareció silencioso, así como estábamos nosotros en la embarcación que nos llevaría a la aventura del día, buscar, encontrar y bucear en los restos de un gran navío.
Looking for the derelict The traffic became less intense when we took the highway to take us to our final destination, the walled city of Campeche. Cuando llegamos a los puntos que marcaba el GPS, Miguel empezó a dar giros sobre la misma área, lo que me hizo dudar si sabía en dónde estábamos y si de verdad existía el naufragio. Un poco temeroso le pedí a Rodrigo que se pusiera su equipo de buceo básico y se metiera al agua para trata de encontrar alguna pista. Se sumergió ágil como es, pasaron algunos minutos antes de que saliera de nuevo con una sonrisa dibujada en su rostro y me gritara, “papá, es el mejor barco que he visto en mi vida”. Chequé todo mi equipo, y con nerviosismo de principiante rompí el espejo del mar para encontrarme con un gigante de acero, tan grande que mi vista no alcanzaba a cubrir toda su superficie. Cuando llegué a los 15 metros de profundidad, lo primero que vi fueron sus barandales cubiertos totalmente de hidrocorales blancos, eran tantos que parecían un campo nevado. Otra cosa que llamó mi atención fueron las cantidad de redes de pesca que ahora parecen inofensivas, pero me imagino cuántas muertes habrán causado. Cuando llego a la popa de nuestro hallazgo veo que los corales cerebros y esponjas reclaman sus espacios en el mar. Llama mucho mi atención la gran variedad de peces que pululan en el área, primero a media agua las barracudas se alejan a nuestro paso. Las palometas nos rodeaban, mientras un enorme cardumen de sardinas huye de las veloces sierras. Una vez en el barco noto que cada especie tiene su territorio, mientras que los robalos aprovechan cada recoveco del barco para ocultarse, las cobias y pargos prefieren los espacios abiertos de las bodegas, y los peces ángeles salen de sus escondites a jugar con las burbujas.

All images both fish and the boat itself, came from the bottom of the sea to get to the bottom of my soul. It was amazing to be here in one of the largest and most complete wrecks I’ve seen in my life. I had so much to explore and so little time in the sea I would have liked that there were no computers or decompression laws of become a sea creature to extend my stay in this wonder reclaimed by the ocean. But I have to go back to my reality and wait a long time for my return to continue exploring every corner of our finding in Campeche.

Cuando entré pude observar un espectáculo de rayos de sol que se infiltran en el mar, como hilos de plata tejidos por manos milagrosas, atravesando los fierros derruidos de la cubierta y realizando figuras que desafían a mi imaginación. Me sentí embriagado por el espectáculo que se presentaba ante mis ojos, me dio la sensación de estar en un gran teatro. Todas las imágenes tanto de peces como del barco en sí, salieron desde el fondo del mar para llegar al fondo de mi alma. Era increíble estar ahí, en uno de los naufragios más grandes y completos que he visto en mi vida. Tenía tanto que recorrer y tan poco tiempo de permanencia en el mar que me hubiera gustado que no existieran computadoras ni leyes de descompresión, de volverme un ser marino más para así alargar mi estadía en esta maravilla reclamada por el océano. Pero tengo que regresar a mi realidad y esperar un largo tiempo para explorar hasta el último rincón de nuestro hallazgo en Campeche.

Vemos con mucho gusto el que cada año aumente la presencia de diferentes países así como la de mexicanos, que en esta ocasión asistieron equipos de: Monterrey, Tamaulipas, León, Acapulco y de Los Cabos, teniendo por primera vez la participación en la bengala de salida a un Secretario de Turismo, en este caso a la Secretaria Gloria Guevara Manzo, en compañía del Gobernador del Estado, Marcos Covarrubias Villaseñor.

En esta ocasión el equipo de Amura Yachts & Lifestyle junto con Otaduy Yachts participó con dos embarcaciones disfrutando un año más de este espectacular torneo, el más famoso a nivel mundial que dio inicio el 18 de octubre con el registro de la junta de capitanes en el restaurante Baja Cantina y por la noche se hizo gala de la inauguración en la explanada de la plaza Puerto Paraíso con la presentación de TAYCO, un grupo musical japonés que toca con tambores, y luego dar paso al encendido del pebetero y cerrar con un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales. El disparo de salida fue el miércoles 19 a las 8:00 horas a bordo de la embarcación Espíritu 2010, con la espectacular salida de los cien navíos participantes. Cabe mencionar que los esfuerzos de los organizadores y la Legislación Mexicana de Pesca, en pro de la conservación de las especies, sólo permitieron la captura de ejemplares de más de 300 libras, dando lugar a una gran cantidad de liberación, teniendo como regla dos peces por embarcación al día. La báscula estuvo abierta desde las 8:00 horas, hasta las 21:00 horas y las líneas se sacaron del agua a las 17:00 horas, además de los anzuelos circulares, lo que dio mayor porcentaje de vida a los peces liberados, eso pone a nuestro país en los primeros lugares de conservación del Mundo. This is the case of the Eventra, from the Italian firm Faralli & Mazzanti, which projects past and future combined in perfect balance. Although many details about this new supercar are yet to be known, the exterior already flaunts the lines of a true classic. On its own, Hennessey introduced the Venom GT Spyder, which is a direct successor to the successful Venom GT, and an indirect one to the Lotus Exige and Elise. This time, the U.S. firm presents a convertible equipped with a V8 engine that exceeds 400 kilometers per hour, which certainly promises an intense driving experience. Esta vez, la firma de Estados Unidos presenta un descapotable equipado con un motor V8 que rebasa los 400 kilómetros por hora, lo que sin duda promete una experiencia de manejo intensa. Finalmente, el Ferrari 599 GTO se posiciona ya como un coche con reconocimiento propio, y no sólo por ser la descendencia inmediata del 599 GTB Fiorano. El aspecto del coche combina detalles modernos, como los agresivos faros, con vestigios del pasado, lo que crea el balance perfecto en un supercar. Destacan sus puertas combinación diagonal/suicida, al estilo de las de un Lamborghini. Cabe mencionar que para su creación, el Evantra se puede construir de dos formas: una de ellas es Pro-Body, que se realiza con base en materiales compuestos; y la segunda, llamada OneBody, que consiste en la construcción a mano de la totalidad del cuerpo con aluminio. De acuerdo a F&M, el motor del Evantra será un 6 cilindros bóxer de 3.5 litros, lo que le otorgará una potencia de 403 caballos de fuerza, pero la casa automotriz italiana desarrolla también la opción de un Twin Turbo que podrá contar con 603 Hp. No obstante, esta creación de Hennessey se hizo de su propia reputación y en poco tiempo se posicionó dentro del gusto de los amantes de la velocidad. Ahora, la firma automotriz estadounidense presenta una versión que sin duda atrapará la atención del mundo automotriz, al incluir detalles más deportivos. Para esta nueva versión, que llevará como nombre Venom GT Spyder, se tomó como base al Lotus Elise, por lo que varios aspectos del auto fueron modificados y ampliados. Algo que destaca del Venom GT Spyder es la opción para hacerlo descapotable, lo que sin duda es una característica que favorecerá una experiencia de manejo mucho más intensa si consideramos la velocidad a la que este bólido puede correr, y que más adelante abordaremos. Construido con base en un compuesto de fibra de vidrio, las líneas de este modelo son similares a las de su hermano coupé, pero con un espíritu más aerodinámico. El Venom GT Spyder contará con un motor V8 con una potencia de 1,200 Hp. Con esta máquina, el coche puede ir de 0 a 100 kilómetros en 2.5 segundos, y a 322 kilómetros en 15.9 segundos. Asimismo, puede alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 443 kilómetros por hora. Por su parte, el motor V8 se empalmará con las ruedas traseras a través de una transmisión Ricardo C de 6 velocidades. Esta verdadera joya automotriz, sin embargo, no será producida por cientos, ni siquiera por decenas de modelos. Something that certainly stands out from the Venom GT Spyder is that is a convertible, certainly a feature that will provide a much more intense driving experience if we consider the speed at which this car can run, a fact that we’ll address further. Constructed from a composite of fiberglass, the lines of this model are similar to those of his coupe brother, but adopt a much more streamlined spirit. The Spyder Venom GT will feature a V8 engine with an output of 1,200 hp. With this machinery, the car can go from 0 to 100 km in 2.5 seconds, 322 km in 15.9 seconds. It also can reach a top speed of 443 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, the V8 engine is connected with the rear wheels through a transmission 6-speed Ricardo C. This automotive jewel, however, will not be produced by hundreds or even dozens of models, since Hennessey announced its intention to manufacture, during its first year, only five specimens of the Venom GT Spyder.

Ferrari 599 GTO

n 2006, Ferrari brought to light what is now one of its most representative models: the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Considered the direct successor to the Ferrari 575M Maranello, is equipped with the same engine from the iconic Ferrari Enzo. With an important lineage on its back, the Ferrari 599 GTO is presented as a GTB Fiorano limited edition, it will be manufactured only 599 specimens of this exclusive model. And although it is another car’s different version, the 599 GTO has features that differ substantially from its predecessor. The first is the name GTO, or Grand Turismo Omologata, that only two other cars in the history of the firm have used: the 250 GTO (1962) and the 288 GTO (1984). The exterior design is virtually equal to that of GTB Fiorano, however, with details that enhance aerodynamic performance, such as the air intakes to cool the engine, while inside, ceramic disc brakes were added, magnetic suspensions SCM2, traction control F1-Trac, 20-inch sports tires and ABS system. Meanwhile, the interiors have not changed much compared to the GTB Fiorano, both the steering wheel and main panel are identical. However, something that did change was the instruments, and a series of buttons were added as well in the lower main panel. Also, the 599 GTO seats are bucket type now. With a 620 hp V12 engine, the car can reach 100 km per hour in 3.3 seconds and achieve progress to 335 km per hour maximum speed. This capability is due in part to the 599 GTO’s 1.680 kg, 85 kg less than its big brother, through the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber.

t the gateway to Kluane National Park in Yukon, in the midst of the great outdoors, and at the foot of snowcapped mountains, there is the finest restaurant around Yukon. It is a blue wooden homestead which houses the restaurant and the charming hotel, and its delight is in charge of chef Victor Bongo, a native of Congo, Africa. His cuisine combines the flavors of Mediterranean plants he harvested and herbs of the forest or grassland. The meat is refined, seafood coming from the Pacific Ocean near the mouth filled with the scent of the sea enhanced by the seasonings chef, while vegetables are chosen for their beauty and taste. Victor also combines the flavors of his native Africa, a bit of French influence and a touch of Mexican cuisine. It is a delicacy that is enjoyed in a homely and refined atmosphere. Well worth trying the duck with orange sauce reduced, bison meat, ravioli with lobster tails or crab cake. The menu changes every week and according the product that can be found, you can enjoy a roast lamb, venison with mushroom season, from the delicious fish of the sea or lake trout and salmon.

n 1843, Chivas Brothers—a high-end grocer owned by John and James Chivas in Aberdeen, Scotland—was granted a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria as grocery purveyor to Her Majesty, and the brand has maintained its association with the British royal family ever since. The brothers began making fine whiskies in the 1850s, and when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, Chivas Brothers created a special whisky under a new brand, Royal Salute, to commemorate the occasion. Also the house’s onetime offering of Limited Edition Royal Salute 50 Year Old in 2003 honored the 50th anniversary of the queen’s coronation. Soon, however, the distiller will bring to U.S. shores what may be the epitome of blended Scotch whisky — a regal offering that takes its name from the most impressive of all cannon salutations, the 62-gun volley fired each June at the Tower of London to mark the queen’s birthday and accession. But the hint of smoke that rises from Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute Blended Scotch Whisky is not the result of cannon fire; rather, it comes from the peat used in making many of the single-malt whiskies — each a minimum of 40 years old—that contribute to this complex spirit. “These whiskies are very old, very rare, and very precious,” says Colin Scott, Royal Salute’s master blender. “We’ve had this tradition and heritage of laying down and setting aside casks. As a result, we have these fantastic whiskies that we can select and blend to create Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute”. Aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 86 proof, the whisky unleashes deep fruity aromas that fill the room as well as the glass. Essences of honeysuckle, leather, and marzipan precede flavors of cherry and citrus in the lengthy finish. Only 1,000 one-liter, gold-embellished Dartington crystal decanters (priced at $2,200 each and available at duty-free shops and select retail outlets in the United Kingdom and, early next year, in the United States) are initially being made, though the whisky will join the brand’s permanent portfolio.

na de las exhibiciones de primavera mas importantes para el Museo Victoria & Albert presentará lo mejor del diseño y talento creativo Británico desde las ‘Olimpiadas Austeras’ de 1948 hasta el verano de 2012. he Victoria & Albert Museum major spring exhibition will showcase the best of British design and creative talent from the 1948 ‘Austerity Olympics’ to the summer of 2012. It will be the first comprehensive exhibition to examine the ways in which artists and designers who were born, trained or working in the UK have produced innovative and internationally acclaimed works from post-war to the present day. Ranging from the Morris Mini Minor (1959) to the newly commissioned model of Zaha Hadid’s London Aquatics Centre (2011), the objects on display will aim to reinforce Britain’s status as a global leader in design. British Design 1948-2012 will tell the story of British fashion, furniture, fine art, graphic design, photography, ceramics, architecture and industrial products over the past 60 years. Highlighting significant moments in the history of British design, the exhibition will look at how the country continues to nurture artistic talent, as well as investigate the role that Britain’s manufacturing industry has played in the global market. It will also examine the impact that Britain’s ideasdriven, creative economy has had on goods and design industries world-wide. Drawing on the V&A’s unrivalled collections and complemented by works drawn from across Britain, the exhibition will bring together more than 300 objects. It will chart the development of British design in all its forms featuring much-loved designs such as a 1961 E-type Jaguar car, a Brownie Vecta camera by Kenneth Grange (1964), an Alexander Mc-

Alongside these well-known pieces will be works on museum display for the first time including Kit Williams’ golden hare jewel from Masquerade (1979) and Brian Duffy’s original photograph for the cover of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album (1973), as well as recent discoveries such as a Brian Long Torsion chair (1971) and furniture by Max Clendinning (1960s). Professor Martin Roth, Director of the V&A, said: “As people around the world will be focussing on the UK in the summer of 2012 this is an ideal moment to showcase British innovation, taste and creativity. We are also delighted to be hosting a series of British themed displays across all the collections in the Museum to accompany the major spring exhibition.” The exhibition will be structured around three themes; Tradition and Modernity, Subversion, and Innovation and Creativity and will broadly follow a chronological framework. The first gallery will focus on the tensions between tradition and modernity in the years following World War II. The opening section will investigate how key events such as the the Festival of Britain (1951) and the Queen’s Coronation (1953) played an important role in promoting modernisation and preserving British traditions and heritage. The work of designers such as John Fowler, John Makepeace and Michael Casson will demonstrate the revival of traditional craft techniques and show a renewed fascination in the British landscape as a source of inspiration. Along with this preoccupation with the past, however, came a drive to modernise British life. Urban regeneration projects such as The New Towns Act (1946) served to promote Britain as a progressive nation.

The economic recovery of the late 1950s and 1960s also generated new kinds of consumer demand. Designers including David Hicks, Max Clendinning and David Mellor and high- street stores such as Terence Conran’s Habitat were embraced by a growing, affluent middle class who developed a taste for modern, European-inspired design for their homes. The second section of the exhibition will be dedicated to the subversive nature of British design from the 1960s to the 1990s. The British Art School system has long acted as an engine for cultivating radical artistic talent. Richard Slee, Zandra Rhodes and Damien Hirst are just some of the internationally recognised artists to have graduated from British art schools and examples of their work will be featured in the exhibition. The central gallery will be divided into studios structured around a central ‘street’ space that will explore the counter-cultural movements from 1960s ‘Swinging London’, through to the 1970s punk scene and the emergence of ‘Cool Britannia’ in the 1990s. British street culture has long fuelled the country’s creative spirit, with the work of fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren, photographers David Bailey and Terry O’Neill, performers David Bowie and Brian Eno, graphic designers Peter Saville and Barney Bubbles, and furniture designers Tom Dixon and Mark Brazier Jones, all illustrating the impulsive radicalism of British art and design.

The final section of the exhibition will explore British creativity in relation to manufacturing industries, new technologies and architecture. During the post-war years, Britain was internationally renowned for its inventive product design and globally recognised for its feats of engineering from the Mini to Concorde. Since the oil crisis of the early 1970s traditional British manufacturing was in decline, while the nation’s service industries started to expand. The strength of Britain’s advances in new technologies will be illustrated by objects such as the Sinclair ZX80 home computer (1980) and Jonathan Ive’s iMac for Apple (1998). There will also be an immersive computer-gaming installation at the centre of the final gallery, featuring specially designed projections of five video games developed in Britain. The last section will also examine Britain’s expertise in architecture and structural engineering and will display architectural renderings and models of the Falkirk Wheel created by RMJM (2002), Foster & Partner’s 30 St Mary Axe building (2004) and a newly commissioned model of Zaha Hadid’s London Aquatics Centre (2011), opening in the summer of 2012. Tickets will be available for the general public for £12 (concessions available), while V&A Members will enjoy a free entrance. • Si lo que se busca es esquiar, la mejor época para visitar Yukón es entre diciembre y abril. De lo contrario, lo ideal es asistir en verano, cuando se presenta el fenómeno Sol de Media Noche, lo que quiere decir que el sol permanece en el horizonte durante tres meses. • La mayoría de la gente viaja a Yukón a través del Aeropuerto Internacional de Whitehorse. Aunque lo interesante es llegar por la Autopista de Alaska para disfrutar de los paisajes. Se puede llegar a ella desde Alaska o la Columbia Británica. Rental car services are available if required. • Beyond its natural resources, this region is ideal for activities such as ski, canoeing, kayaking, exploring, fishing, hunting and sleigh rides. Yukon has appropriate facilities for each one of these activities. • Yukon’s currency is the Canadian dollar and the official languages are English and French, this could be an obstacle for a novice traveler. However, if one can speak English or has a basic notion of French, this is more than enough to know your way around Canadian territory.
Tops • The Park Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Natural was created in 1993 after an environmental campaign to protect the natural heritage of the mining industry, it is inhabited by a large population of grizzly bears, and it’s the only part of Canada where they are located. The Alsek and Tatshenshini rivers run through it. It entered the list of World Heritage in 1994 for the beauty of its landscapes. • The Chilkoot Trail was in late 1890 the path to the gold mines of the Yukon, became obsolete in 1899 when they built the railroad from Skagway Dye, in 1978 was named a National Historic Landmark U.S., and in 1987 acquired the title of National Historic Site of Canada. Today is a popular destination for explorers and people who seek a closer contact with nature. • The Fort Selkirk is a trading post located on the Yukon River, for years it housed the headquarters of the Selkirk First Nation and the evidence shows that the site was inhabited almost 8 thousand years ago. It was abandoned in mid 1950 and now many of its buildings have been restored. There is no direct way to get to it, and it’s only accessible by sea or air. • At Yukon is the Kluane, the non-polar icefield in the world’s largest, during the summer time the sun warms enough for vegetation to flourish. These features allow you to offer unique and diverse landscapes at any time of year.

• El Parque Natural Provincial Tatshenshini-Alsek se creó en 1993 tras una campaña ecologista para proteger el patrimonio natural de la industria minera, en él habita una extensa población de osos grizzly, es la única parte de Canadá donde se les encuentra. Los ríos Alsek y Tatshenshini corren a través de él. Entró a la lista de Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1994 por la belleza de sus paisajes. • El Paso Chilkoot era a finales de 1890 la ruta de acceso a las minas de oro de Yukón, en 1899 quedó obsoleto cuando se construyó el ferrocarril de Skagway Dye, en 1978 fue nombrado Monumento Histórico Nacional de Estados Unidos, y en 1987 adquirió el título de Sitio Histórico Nacional de Canadá.
