unque las fiestas decembrinas ya se acercan, en Amura Yachts and Lifestyle todavía disfrutamos del otoño con todo lo necesario para viajar a uno de los sitios más amplios y bellos del mundo: Indonesia. Para esta edición, exploramos este gran conjunto de islas en el que encontraremos paisajes naturales, ambientes cosmopolitas, volcanes rugientes, playas paradisiacas, y una rica cultura que sin duda dejará un hermoso recuerdo. Encendemos motores con tres nuevas e increíbles obras de arte automotriz. Citroën lanza el Survolt, un coche concepto que demuestra el potencial que los coches eléctricos tienen para alcanzar grandes velocidades. Asimismo, el Tatuara, de Shelby Super Cars, se perfila como un competidor por el codiciado de título de coche más rápido en la faz de la Tierra, mientras que el Koenigsegg Agera R, actualización del Agera, busca también ingresar a esta contienda. Cruzar el mar no es tarea fácil, pero totalmente realizable con los súper yates que presentamos. ntroducido en 1966, los modelos Romvlvs hacen referencia al arte relojero en su forma más pura. Este modelo fue exactamente el primer reloj presentado con una esfera sin índices y con las horas grabadas en el bisel. En 2008, interpretando los clásicos códigos de la marca, la colección Romvlvs fue enriquecida con dos altas complicaciones: un calendario perpetuo y otro anual retrógrado. En 2008, esto quedó demostrado con el Horological Machine No. 2 (HM2SV), que ostentaba no sólo una vista completa de los 349 componentes de su motor, sino que además estaba elaborado con una caja de zafiro sintético. Al cumplir tres años de su aparición, el HM2-SV presenta sus dos últimas ediciones especiales; el HM2 Black SV y el HM2 Red SV, con lo que asegura una despedida con resplandor de gloria. El HM2 Black SV cuenta con la caja de zafiro, en la que luce carátulas negras sobre una platina de titanio cubierto en PVD negro, lo que provee de un fondo diferente que permite admirar la increíble maquinaria, mientras que atrás se puede admirar el rotor verde de oro de 22 k. Por su parte, en el HM2 Red SV, las carátulas negras se encuentran sobre una platina de oro rosa, mientras que detrás se observa el rotor de oro rosa, también de 22 k.

he watchmakers at MB&F have always been known for creating unique timepieces that are truly groundbreaking. In 2008, this was demonstrated with the new Horological Machine No. 2 (HM2-SV), who held not only a complete view of the 349 components of your engine, but was also a box made from synthetic sapphire. Although we made several trips to this vast country in the past, an archipelago of 17 400 islands, we decided to browse some points of interest such as Irian Jaya, Flores, Komodo, Lombok, Bali and Sulawesi, Borneo and Jakarta.

Irian Jaya-Papúa Aterrizamos en Jayapura, en la costa norte de Irian Jaya, la parte más oriental de Indonesia, donde nos esperaba nuestro yate. Después de visitar el puerto, descubrimos la playa de Tanjung Ria, cerca del mercado el Hamadi, donde tuvo lugar la invasión aliada el 22 de abril de 1944, y terminamos el día comiendo unas deliciosas langostas. Tomamos el avión que nos dejó en Wamena, en medio del valle del Baliem, el corazón a más de 1800 msnm rodeado por montañas de más de 4500 msnm. Aterrizamos en medio del pueblo y cual fue mi sorpresa al bajar del avión al encontrarme con los papúes casi desnudos en las calles; los hombres van ataviados solamente con una calabaza llamada Kotekas, detenida por un hilo, y las mujeres llevan sólo una falda de paja y una bolsa o Noken que cuelga en su espalda. El principal grupo étnico lo constituyen los Dani, pero también encontramos Yali y Lani, todos de piel oscura y pelo rizado. Su primer contacto con el hombre blanco se remonta a 1938 cuando el piloto Richard Archbold, sobrevolando el valle donde corría el río Baliem, una zona considerada deshabitada, notó unos campos de cultivo y descubrió por primera vez a los Dani. La Segunda Guerra Mundial preocupaba al mundo, y no fue sino hasta 1954 que el primer misionario, Lloyd Van Stone fue dejado en paracaídas y el hombre blanco empezó a colonizar la zona. Un aeropuerto fue construido y todavía la carretera que viene de Jayapura no está terminada.

Irian Jaya-Papua We landed in Jayapura on the north coast of Irian Jaya, the easternmost part of Indonesia, where our yacht was expecting us. After visiting the port, we found Tanjung Ria beach, near the Hamadi market, where the Allied invasion took place on April 22, 1944, and ended the day eating delicious lobsters. We take the plane that dropped us off at Wamena in the middle of the Baliem valley heart, more than 1800 m surrounded by mountains over 4500 meters. We landed in the middle of town and while getting off the plane we were surprised with the Papuans almost naked in the streets. Men are dressed only with a different size pumpkin called Koteka, detained by a thread, and women have only a grass skirt and a bag or Noken hanging on his back. The main ethnic group is made up of Dani, but we also found Yali and Lani, all with dark skin and curly hair. Their first contact with white men goes back to 1938 when the pilot Richard Archbold, flying over the valley where the river ran Baliem, an uninhabited area in question, he noticed some fields and first discovered the Dani. Nos recibió el jefe con sus acólitos y se pusieron sus adornos de plumas para que tomáramos la foto con sus arcos y flechas. Flores y Komodo Navegamos 3 días corridos, pasamos la gran península de Irian Jaya Barat, seguimos el estrecho entre las islas frente a Kota Sorong para entrar en el mar de las Molucas. Nos detuvimos en la isla de Maluku para gozar de las hermosas playas y visitar los pueblos de pescadores como Kemarian donde las lanchas con flotadores adornaban las playas o bogaban sobre el mar tranquilo. Cuando nos movíamos nos asustábamos porque sólo unos palos nos protegían y los guardias no llevaban escopeta. De regreso observamos unos venados de Timor que son la comida favorita del dragón, así como los jabalíes, y queríamos llegar a la playa para nadar y refrescarnos. Encontramos unos dragones vagando por la playa, uno de ellos estaba nadando, lo que nos convenció para no echarnos y zarpamos para alejarnos de ese maravilloso santuario donde vive uno de los animales más peligrosos del mundo y que ha devorado varios hombres.

Las nubes, cegadas en las cimas, hacían un baile entre los árboles y los templos recordando la magia de las danzas. In Bangli we were impressed with the Goddess Kala Makara, with its imposing face and his outstretched hands, which holds the spirits to prevent passage. Each Balinese has to visit this temple at least once a year. The curves of the road led us to the slopes of the volcano Gunung Agung (the highest and holiest of the island, 3140 m) in a scene worthy of the gods with rice terraces, up to Besakih, the holiest of all temples, at an altitude of 900 m. It’s a group of 30 temples on terraces connected by stairways and doors that are open divine towers in the middle. A ceremony emboldens the temple and women would present their offerings with their hair adorned with flowers and lace blouses, while men, praying in the courtyards of the temples, wore scarves in black and white checkered waist. It was a feast of colors in the bright tropical afternoon that frightened the black clouds threatening. We ended our visit with Klungklung in the coastal plain, the ancient capital of the first kingdom of the island, where its courthouse is. As a small pyramid decorated with sculptures of stone and surrounded by water, is notable for its ceiling decorated with frescoes depicting heaven and hell Balinese style. Sulawesi It was very difficult for us to leave that paradise, that peculiar nirvana of the two Seasons hotels, and the fascinating world of Bali, but we embarked with a taste of adventure, knowing that we would discover a new world* (discover new horizons*) in the next island. Heading north, we crossed the China sea to reach the misterious Sulawesi, also known as the Celebes Island. We stopped shortly on Ujungpandang, the lively capital, to continue sailing to the north and we left the yacht anchored in the narrow bay of Bacukiki, where the 4x4 vehicle was waiting to take us to the fabulous land of the Toraja. We crossed the heels and cliffs, adorned with sumptuous green rice fields where the vegetation was mirrored on the water. Nos instalamos en un encantador hotel muy cerca de Rantepao, donde las orquídeas adornaban el jardín y la selva englobaba ese pequeño paraíso, y desde esa base visitamos los pueblos o aldeas típicas: Makale, Sangalla, Sangalangi, Wara Utara. Visitamos uno de los acantilados-cementerio de Pala’ Toke’ donde el inmenso acantilado se ha utilizado para enterrar a los ancestros. Unos balcones se han escarbado en la roca y en ellos se asoman las figuras que representan a los muertos que están enterrados en ataúdes depositados en cuevas hechas o naturales. Esas figuras de madera se llaman Tau Tau, miran hacia los arrozales y la gente cambia regularmente los vestidos. Nos impresionó mucho ver esas figuras que nos miraban como si fueran fantasmas del pasado. Visitamos el sitio de Lemo que es muy similar con unas impresionantes galerías de ancestros. En una pequeña aldea, nos detuvimos para ser invitados a una ceremonia funeraria. La gente estaba instalada en casitas con balcones que daban a una plaza de tierra y en ella habían sacrificado unos 5 búfalos antes de que llegáramos. Les habían quitado la piel y estaban repartiendo la carne. Una orquesta estaba tocando, la familia del difunto estaba instalada en el balcón más decorado y los invitados que llegaban los saludaban. El sarcófago estaba cerca de ellos y seguro que contenía a un personaje muy importante de la aldea por la dimensión del ritual funerario y la cantidad de búfalos sacrificados. Unos puercos gritaban, listos para ser sacrificados también. El conjunto de la ceremonia con todos los detalles nos impresionó y dejamos el recinto con la sensación de haber estado en otro planeta, en un mundo desconocido e intrigante. Los búfalos de agua son sagrados y la riqueza de las familias se muestra por la cantidad que posee. We settled in a charming hotel very close of Rantepao, where the orchids adorned the garden and the jungle embraced that little paradise. From there we visited the towns of Makale, Sangalla, Sangalangi and Wara Utara. We also went to one of the cemetery-cliffs of Pala’Toke’, where the huge precipice holds the ancestors’ burials. There are some balconies in the rock, from which some figures representing the dead can be seen. These wooden statuettes are called Tau Tau, they have their looks pointing to the rice fields and people often change their clothes. It impressed us greatly to see those figures looking at us as if they were ghosts from the past. We also visited Lemo’s site, which is very similar with some impressive* (imposing) ancestors galleries. We stopped at a small town and we were invited to a funeral ceremony. People were installed in small houses with balconies facing to a square of earth, where 5 buffaloes were sacrificed before we arrived. They ripped off their skin and they were dividing the meat. An orchestra was playing, the family of the deceased was installed on the most decorated balcony and the recently arrived guests greeted them. The coffin was near them, and surely it contained a very important figure of the town, because of the size of the ritual and the number of sacrificed buffaloes. Some pigs were screaming, ready to be offered too. The union of the ceremony with all the details impressed us, and we left the place with the feeling of having been in another planet, in an unknown and intriguing world. Water buffaloes are sacred, and the wealth of the families is shown by how many they own. We saw the children looking after them next to the rice fields, often mounted on their backs, while some grandparents fished on holes deliberately

y visitamos varias aldeas con sus largas casas de techo curvo con sus picos muy salidos y que recordaban el cuerpo de un barco al revés. Las casas o Tongkonan estaban alineadas para crear una calle central y entre las casas se alzaban los graneros. Los muros de madera estaban labrados y pintados en rojo, negro y amarillo, decorados con elegancia, lo que daba a cada aldea mucha belleza. En uno de los pueblos visitamos el acantilado junto al cual los sarcófagos habían sido depositados a lo largo de un camino que subía lentamente. Muchos de ellos se habían abierto y los huesos estaban expuestos con mucho respeto, la madera de los sarcófagos estaba cincelada con elegancia; unos colgaban del acantilado y eran los que contenían unos cuerpos de niños, uno tenía un espacio privilegiado bajo un techo y era el de un personaje muy venerado. Ese cementerio abierto era un lugar macabro y fascinante. Después de visitar las aldeas, los arrozales y acantilados, los ríos y cascadas que corrían por ese hermoso escenario, abandonamos Tana Toraja con el sabor de haber penetrado en un mundo preservado lleno de tradiciones ancestrales y quisiéramos cerrar la puerta y dejarlo olvidado para que se preserve tal cual. Regresamos a la costa para subirnos a nuestro yate y seguir la navegación.

left in the middle of the paddies. The landscape was beautiful and we visited many towns of long houses with curved roofs and prominent peaks that reminded of an upside down boat. Houses or Tongkonan were lined to create a central street and the barns stood between them. The wooden walls were elegantly decorated, carved and painted in red, black and yellow, which gave much beauty to the villages. Near a town, we visited the cliff next to where the coffins were placed alongside a path going up. Many of them were open and the bones were respectfully exposed. The wood was sculpted with elegance. The ones hanging from the cliff contained children bodies, and one of them had a privileged space under a roof. It belonged to someone very important. That open cemetery was a macabre and fascinating place. After visiting the villages, the rice fields and cliffs, the rivers and waterfalls that ran through that beautiful scenery, we left Tana Toraja with the taste of having entered a preserved world, rich with ancestral traditions and the wish of letting the doors closed so it could be preserved as it is. We returned to the shore to get on our yacht and continue sailing.

Borneo Atravesamos el estrecho de Makassar, alcanzamos el puerto de Kota Balikpapan, en la parte Indonesia de la isla de Borneo, que brillaba con la luz del sol que alumbraba la costa. Después de cargar combustible y alimentos, seguimos bordeando la costa cubierta de selva y playas de arena blanca hasta llegar a Kumai, una pequeña aldea cerca de Pangkalan Bun, donde alquilamos una lancha local llamada Klotok de 12 m de largo, para internarnos en el río. Paseamos por la selva, encontrándonos con orangutanes de diferentes edades y desiguales actitudes, unos tímidos, otros nos subían encima, otros nos tomaban la mano para caminar, una madre llegaba con su hijo y tomó el cepillo de dientes de uno de nuestros acompañantes y le lavó los dientes al pequeño, imitando al hombre. Dentro de la selva, los hombres les llevaban frutas y aparecieron más de 10 simios, era un verdadero espectáculo el ver esos animales tan parecidos al ser humano, semi salvajes, en su propio hábitat. La mayoría de ellos habían sido mascotas del hombre y estaban reintroducidos en la vida silvestre, algunos traían amigos de la selva y otros eran completamente salvajes que no temían al hombre. Estábamos encantados con esos encuentros fabulosos, observando los monos gibones y narigudos, unos jabalíes y la naturaleza, las orquídeas, las mariposas, algunos pájaros como los cálaos (hornbills) y martines pescadores, los árboles y sobre todo los orangutanes.

Borneo We crossed the Strait of Makassar and reached the port of Kota Balikpapan, at the Indonesian part of the Borneo Island that shined with the sunlight that illuminated the shore. After getting fuel and food, we continued along the jungle and white sand beaches that covered the seaboard until we arrived to Kumai, a small village near Pangkalan Bun, where we rented a local boat named Klotok, that is 12 m long, to enter the river. On its bank we could see palms growing and some monkeys that inhabited the highest tree branches. Finally, we arrived to the Lodge where we stayed, surrounded by the apes that ran throughout the hotel. The next day we went into Tanjung Puting national park and discovered Leakey Camp, where the orangutans are reintegrated to the jungle. Here, Dr. Birute Galdikas has studied orangutans’ behavior for decades. We had some very interesting encounters with those big apes, and one of them, whom people called The Boss, was huge and menacing though he seemed to be quiet, but no one came near him. He was attracted to a female, so he hugged her and she let him want her with a sweet look on her face. We strolled through the jungle, meeting orangutans of different ages and various attitudes. Some were timid, others climbed on us, some others held hands with us to walk. A mother took the toothbrush of one of our fellows and brushed his son’s teeth, imitating a person. In the jungle, men gave fruits to them and more than 10 apes appeared. It was an impressive scene to see those semi-wild animals, so similar to men, in their natural environment. Most of them had been pet to man and were reintegrated to wildlife. Some of them had friends from the jungle and others were completely wild, with no fear for men. We were amazed with those fabulous encounters, watching the gibbons and proboscis monkeys, wild boars, nature, orchids, butterflies and birds like hornbills and kingfishers, trees and above all, the orangutans.

1. Yoga en Bali/Yoga at Bali

We sailed upstream with the klotok to visit a town built by man to look for gold. The jungle was cut down to search for the precious metal in the remaining sand. Nothing grew anymore on that poor soil, the heat was unbearable, the wooden cottages were the only providers of shade and people lived in that unhealthy place, filtering sand with sieves in search of the valuable dust, risking their health and their life in that hell. We returned to the Lodge to enjoy the sunset, watching the apes running by the wooden scaffolding or ceilings, and also enjoyed the evening with young people who improvised a concert of local and international music. The next day, sailing through the river, we watched more orangutans and arrived to our yacht.

Navegando con el klotok, seguimos río arriba para visitar un pueblo creado por el hombre para buscar oro. Habían desmontado la selva, arrasando con todos los árboles para buscar oro en la arena que sólo quedaba. Nada crecía ya en ese suelo tan pobre, el calor era el del infierno, las cabañas de madera eran el único refugio de sombra y la gente vivía en ese lugar insalubre, filtrando la arena con los tamices en busca del polvo tan valioso, arriesgando su salud y su vida en ese averno. Regresamos al Lodge para disfrutar del atardecer, viendo los macacos corriendo por los andamios de madera o los techos, y gozamos la velada con los jóvenes que improvisaron un concierto de música local e internacional. Al día siguiente, navegando por el río, observamos más de los orangutanes y alcanzamos nuestro yate.

Jakarta Finally we crossed Java Sea to arrive to Jakarta, the great capital city with a Dutch-colony flavored neighborhood, where we left the yacht in the navy. We enjoyed the pubs and restaurants, the city modern life with its shopping and turmoil. Jakarta absorbed us with its bars and the great mosque, the malls and the gardens. The trip was over and we had our minds full with sumptuous images tied to memories worth of Indiana Jones adventures. Indonesia, as always, amazed, fascinated and charmed us and left us with an eagerness to return with more time and to meet more extraordinary people. We kept on dreaming about Bali people, or the Toraja, with the Papuans or the Komodo dragon, with orangutans and white sand beaches. Indonesia is an authentic exotic adventure book, with a taste of tropical heat and delicate fruit amid the perfumes of the jungle.O

1era noche Caminamos por la famosa Gran Vía, esa famosa avenida construida entre 1910 y 1930 delimitada por hermosos edificios y que vibraba antiguamente con sus teatros y restaurantes. Nos detuvimos en el famoso El Tigre, un bar de tapas y cañas (calle Infantas 30) y degustamos el chorizo al infierno, las patatas asadas, las croquetas, la tortilla, el jamón serrano. El ambiente de voces altas, risas y empujones, de olor a chorizo y paella llenaba el lugar, una verdadera inmersión en el auténtico Madrid. Pasamos la plaza de Cibeles para admirar la hermosa fuente que fue construida en 1782 y que representa a la diosa Cibeles, símbolo de la tierra, agricultura y fecundidad, sobre un carro tirado por leones. Reina sobre la plaza delimitada por los elegantes edificios del Palacio de Buenavista, Palacio de Linares, Palacio de Comunicaciones y el Banco de España. Seguimos por el Paseo del Prado y visitamos el museo Thyssen-Bornemisza para admirar la colección permanente que es un verdadero recorrido por el arte, desde el siglo XIII hasta las postrimerías del siglo XX, con mil obras expuestas.

1st night We walked through the Gran Vía, this famous avenue was built between 1910 and 1930 enclosed by beautiful buildings and vibrating city with its theaters and restaurants. We stopped at the famous El Tigre, a tapas bar and rods (street Infantas 30) and we tasted the hell sausage, baked potatoes, croquettes, tortilla, and serrano ham. The atmosphere of loud voices, laughter and shoving, the smell of sausage and paella filled the place, a real immersion in the authentic Madrid. We passed through Cibeles Square to admire the beautiful fountain that was built in 1782 and represents the goddess Cybele, the symbol of the land, agriculture and fertility, on a chariot pulled by lions, a monument that reigns over the square bounded by the elegant buildings of the Palace of Buenavista, Linares Palace, Palace of Communications and Bank of Spain. We continued to the Paseo del Prado and visited the Thyssen-Bornemisza to admire Museum’s permanent collection, in a tour through the art from the thirteenth century until the late twentieth century, with a thousand works as part of the exhibition.

Pasamos por la majestuosa Puerta de Alcalá, construida por Carlos III en el lugar donde existía una puerta abierta en la muralla. Esa puerta triunfal fue terminada en 1778 al estilo de un arco de triunfo romano y es un monumento emblemático de Madrid. Regresamos entonces al vagabundeo de las calles, descubriendo las tiendas de la Gran Vía, recorriendo la Fnac para comprar libros y discos, y llegar a tiempo al Teatro Real en la Plaza Oriente, frente al Palacio Real donde disfrutamos una fabulosa presentación de Tosca de Puccini. Tras haber sido cerrado mucho tiempo, se ha engalanado con una soberbia restauración entre 1991 y 1997, y todavía luce su decorado original de 1850 al estilo italiano. Salimos del teatro como si estuviéramos flotando dentro de la música y nos fuimos directamente a cenar a Lhardy. Ese reconocido restaurante abrió sus puertas en 1839 por Emilio Huguenin. Tras 172 años de buena cocina, Lhardy sigue consintiendo a sus comensales. Finalmente dimos un paseo por el barrio de Chueca donde el ambiente se desborda en las calles, los bares se llenan todavía a esas horas avanzadas de la noche. Parece que el barrio nunca duerme y eran las 3 de la madrugada cuando regresamos al hotel, extenuados.

We went through the majestic Alcalá Gate, built by Carlos III in the place where there was an open door in the wall. This triumphal arch was completed in 1778 the style of a Roman triumphal arch is a monument emblematic of Madrid. Then went back to wandering the streets, discovering the shops on Gran Vía, crossing the Fnac to buy books and records, and arrive on time at the Teatro Real in the Plaza East, opposite the Royal Palace where we enjoyed a fabulous presentation of Puccini’s Tosca. After having been closed a long time, it has been adorned with a superb restoration between 1991 and 1997, and still bearing its original decorated Italian style in 1850. We leave the theater as if we were floating within the music and went straight to dinner at Lhardy. This renowned restaurant opened in 1839 by Emilio Huguenin. After 172 years of good cooking, Lhardy keeps on indulging its guests. Finally we took a stroll through the neighborhood of Chueca where the environment is overflowing in the streets, the bars fill those still late at night. It appears that the district never sleeps and it was 3 am when we returned to the hotel, fairly exhausted.

Seguimos nuestro paseo callejero por la calle de la Pasa, admirando los edificios antiguos que adornan el rumbo: el Ayuntamiento de Madrid; el Palacio Arzobispal; la iglesia Pontificia de San Miguel; el Palacio del Cordón; y la Casa Palacio del conde de Miranda.

We passed the famous Puerta del Sol adorned by the legendary Tio Pepe ad, the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, the Royal Mail house that bears the clock strikes 12 bells of the new year, Casa Diego that sells the best fans since 1858 and the equestrian statue of Carlos III. We continue our walk down to the Pasa street, admiring the old buildings that adorn the course: the Madrid City Council, the Archbishop’s Palace, the church of San Miguel Pontificia, Palace of the Cord, and the Palace House of Count de Miranda.

Walking the streets of Piedmont, Admiral, Earl of Xiquena or Barbara de Braganza, WE found a Jesus del Pozo, La Baccana store to buy Just Cavalli and Galliano, Elsa Bracci, Zadig & Voltaire, and Marc Jacobs. In the evening we dined on the terrace of the Casino to sample the cuisine of Ferran Adria and Paco Roncero as gastronomic consultant and enjoy the best wines recommended by Maria Jose Huertas, the best Spanish sommelier in 2005. After dinner we walk again by the lively Chueca neighborhood and environment of bars, tapas, cocktail lounges, and people talking in the streets.

3rd night We walked directly to the Royal Palace to visit early, discovering the sumptuous palace where Queen stood the palace of the Muslims. After admiring the facades with windows, balconies and pillars, we find the central courtyard and finally some of the 30 main rooms: the Throne Room with its vaulted ceiling painted by Tiepolo in 1766, its gilded carved furniture from the time of Carlos III , the bronze lions that flank the canopy of the throne, the King’s Chamber, the Porcelain Room created by the factory Buen Retiro, the Hall of Mirrors with its huge mirrors, the Hall of Gala and galleries that exhibit the paintings of great painters such as Juan de Flanders, Caravaggio, Velasquez and Goya. With a body full of the tastes and smells of this magnificent kitchen, we entered to the Reina Sofia museum through the Nouvel building to discover a large space dedicated to contemporary art: works by Dali, Miro, Picasso, Oskar Schelemmer, Juan Gris and temporary exhibition Maja Bajevic with poetic review of historical and social fractures. Then we went to Santceloni to taste the award-winning cuisine of Chef Óscar Velasco that adheres to the legacy of Santi Santamaría, who created the restaurant Can Fabes and wrote several books. To end the night and experience the beauty of the city celebration, we went to Kapital, the famous seven-story nightclub with various types of music and a fabulous atmosphere.

1. Museo del Prado/ Del Prado Museum

of Antezana, the Mansion- Hotel Laredo, currently Cisneriana Museum, where we admire an original edition of the Complutense Bible, The Bible of Antwerp. The village has its elegant buildings and gardens as the remains of the ancient Roman city and the city Complutum Arabic as the wall. We visited the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption that dominates the square, a mixture of Gothic, plateresque, Renaissance and Baroque altarpiece which houses a great shining in its center the picture of the Assumption of the Virgin painted by Francisco Goya in 1812. We found the height Clock Tower, the castle of the Counts, the convent of Poor Clares cloister with two floors, the chapel of San Anton, and the baroque church of San Roque. Finally we arrived in time to visit the palace of Aranjuez, this charming town crossed by the Tagus and Jarama rivers. Inside we discovered its beautiful rooms and impressive collection of paintings, and especially seduced us with the exotic décor of the Chinese Room, the Porcelain Cabinet and the Hall of Mirrors. The collection of dresses of queens is beautiful as well as the collection of carriages. Later we settled to dinner at the famous restaurant The Green Frog, the most famous of the shire. Early evening we returned to Madrid to take a walk around the bars and take the last glasses: Mouth of the Wolf, Cardamom Cock, Aeria Chill Out Chilloutdecorated with arabic and a very nice music, Honky Tonk Café with its relaxing atmosphere, The Confidential is an old mansion renovated in A glamorous bar, and we ended up at The Plaza Jazz Club.

No nos podíamos perder el Matadero Madrid, ese nuevo centro de creación contemporánea, antigua matadero reconvertido en espacio cultural, conservando su arquitectura madrileña del siglo XX y que alberga varias actividades culturales. Nos fuimos al barrio de Salamanca para deambular en la calle Serrano que luce un nuevo aspecto con los más elegantes escaparates y aceras amplias, una Milla de Oro al estilo de una pasarela de moda ubicada entre maravillosos edificios del siglo XIX. Descubrimos las tiendas de Ágatha Ruiz de Prada, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Gucci, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Manolo Blahnik, la tienda Isolée que presenta diferentes marcas, el centro comercial, así como las joyerías Rabat, Suárez, Cartier y Tiffany. Para descansar un poco nos instalamos en Estado Puro para gozar de unas deliciosas tapas del chef Paco Roncero que conserva la tradición de las tapas hasta perfeccionarlas. 5th night After breakfast that included clubs with a latte, we set out on a long visit to the Prado Museum where we spent all morning with the great works of Spanish painting and internationally. We continued with a visit to the stunning glass gallery of Palacio de Cibeles and the same palace with its cultural spaces and exhibitions. We couldn’t miss the Matadero Madrid, this new contemporary art center, a former slaughterhouse turned into a cultural space, preserving its twentieth-century Madrid architecture and on present day houses several cultural activities. We went to the Salamanca district to wander at Serrano street that sports a new look with the finest windows and wide sidewalks, a Golden Mile in the style of a fashion runway located between 19th century beautiful buildings. We found stores like Agatha Ruiz de Prada, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Gucci, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Manolo Blahnik, Isolée store featuring different brands, the mall, as well as jewelry Rabat, Suarez, Cartier and Tiffany. To rest a bit we went to Estado Puro to enjoy tapas chef Paco Roncero that preserves the tradition of tapas and refines them. We could not leave Madrid without seeing a zarzuela and went to see the excellent play “Vamos Verbena” Prosperity in the theater, a musical composed of fragments of zarzuela as “Water, sugar and brandy,” “La Verbena de la Paloma” “La Revoltosa” or “La Gran Vía”.

This time, Feadship’s presents us the Lady Britt, a vessel of 63 and 11.3 meters wide, built in modern facilities Scheepsbouw Koninklijke De Vries in the Netherlands. The Lady Britt incorporates the external appearance of the Twizzle and the functionality of the Cakewalk, two renowned shipping models, reflecting the rubric of De Voogt Naval Architects, a Feadship trademark. De Voogt worked closely with boat owners, who since even before signing the contract with the shipyard, already had in mind various specifications for Lady Britt, which shows that they never considered skimping on luxury and technology. out the project: a custom yacht that fully represents that concept. The interior layout was one of the details that were from greater preponderance for the owners, who established accommodation options for guests’ rooms on the lower deck. On the main deck, amidships, is the living room / salon, with a warmly yet elegant decor, while at aft there’s a private cinema and a dining room for 12 people, and in the rear end is located a panoramic room with two large armchairs. hroughout nine decades of history, Citroën has always aimed for innovation in automotive designs and technologies. In the last years, it has placed particular emphasis in the development and implementation of electric engines in order to eliminate pollutant emissions. Inspired on the Revolt, a concept that the French company unveiled last year, the Survolt follows the sustainable trend that is becoming more frequent in many aspects of everyday life, but now it holds a much more sportive style and fuses speed with ecologic awareness in a harmonious way. The Survolt represents Citroën’s concept within environment friendly sports cars. With 3.85 meters long and 1.87 meters wide, it combines the classic elements of a car of its type, such as reduced dimensions and aerodynamic lines. The gray shade contrasts harmoniously with the details in blue or fuchsia. As to the front, two horizontal headlamps inspired by the sports racers and LED lights give it a futuristic, sophisticated touch. The interior was created with the combination of organic elements with technology; for example, the steering wheel and its base, that look like they are emerging from the dashboard. As the butterfly doors open, two chrome finished stabilizer bars, can be seen surrounding the driver and passenger seats, giving a sports touch to the inside. This is intended to provide an atmosphere of comfort and refinement for the two occupants. The power of the Survolt comes from its two electric engines; together they can reach up to 300 Horsepower. They also allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than 5 seconds. The engine’s running is rather silent for a sports car.

n the relentless competition for the title of the fastest, Shelby Super Cars has launched many automotive works that have left their significant marks. In 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero was taken to the speed enthusiastic audience and presented as a worthy opponent for the Bugatti Veyron; indeed, it even managed to seize the latter’s record of the fastest car in the world, until the arrival of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Now, the new generation of cars belonging to the North American house presents the SSC Tuatara, a car that seeks, no more no less, to overthrow Veyron’s variation as the fastest sports vehicle in the world and to go beyond the record of 431 kilometers per hour. To face this daunting task, the SSC team of 16 engineers focused their efforts to design and build the Tuatara. The result represents the next step in the evolution of the SSC. The SSC Tuatara combines ultimate technical advances with the imposing and classical aspect of the Shelbies. Both body and chassis are built on a carbon fiber base, and have many aerodynamic openings that allow it to ventilate the heat that the engine generates. It also has two sober and elegant ailerons that have an aerodynamic and stabilizer function. The exterior, sporting a delicate combination of style, sophistication and functionality, is constituted by the bold lines that give shape to the car. The canopy and the windows fuse in a single dark outline that contrasts with the predominant white, while details such as the blue headlights and the red taillights provide a balance of colors. On its own, the Tuatara’s inner machinery, which gives it the capacity to accelerate as SSC states, is constituted by a V8 Twin Turbo engine that generates 1350 Hp. With this power, it is expected to go from 0 to 100 kilometers in 2.8 seconds, with a maximum speed of 443 kilometers per hour.

a firma sueca Koenigsegg sigue la línea de los supercars y lanza ahora una versión amplificada de uno de sus coches insignia: el Koenigsegg Agera R, que sin duda representará un paso adelante en la carrera por el más rápido en el camino, aunque en aspectos diferentes. En un aspecto estético, el Koenigsegg Agera R es casi idéntico a su modelo original; está construido con fibra de carbono y kevlar con refuerzos ligeros. Asimismo, el chasis está hecho de fibra de carbono y una estructura de aluminio. No obstante, el Agera R incluye también un alerón trasero dinámico, que a diferencia de la versión estándar, se ajusta automáticamente, esto mediante la presión del viento que se produce al viajar a altas velocidades, lo que reduce el arrastre del coche. La maquinaria interna del Agera R también se diferencia de la versión original; utiliza etanol como combustible en lugar de gasolina para alimentar al motor V8 Twin-Turbocharger de siete velocidades, que le otorga al coche casi 1099 Hp. De acuerdo a Koenigsegg, esta fuerza le permitirá al Agera R alcanzar 100 kilómetros por hora en 2.9 segundos, y 200 en 7.5 segundos, para alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 394 kilómetros por hora. Bajo este último parámetro, está por debajo del Bugatti Veyron, aunque éste último alcanza la barrera de los 300 kilómetros en 16.7 segundos, mientras que el Agera R lo hace en 14.53. Otros aditamentos del Agera R incluyen cinturones de seguridad de cuatro puntos; frenos cerámicos Sport ABS; navegación por satélite; batería Intelligent LifePo4; control de clima; instrumentos de monitoreo continuo en cada sistema del coche, entre otros.

he Swedish company Koenigsegg continues with its supercars line and now launches an amplified version of one of its flagship cars: the Koenigsegg Agera R, which undoubtedly represents a step forward in the race for the fastest on the road, although in different ways. In aesthetics, the Koenigsegg Agera R is almost identical to the original mode; it is constructed of carbon fiber and lightweight reinforced kevlar. Also, the chassis is made of carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb. However, the Agera R also includes a rear dynamic spoiler, unlike the standard version, automatically adjusts itself by wind pressure when traveling at high speeds, reducing the wind resistance on the car. The Agera R internal machinery also differs from the original version, using ethanol as fuel instead of gasoline to power the seven-speed twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which gives the car almost 1099 Hp. According to Koenigsegg, this force output will allow the Agera R reach 100 mph in 2.9 seconds, and 200 in 7.5 seconds, to eventually reach a top speed of 394 kilometers per hour. Under this last parameter it might fall short to the Bugatti Veyron, although the latter reaches the barrier of 300 km in 16.7 seconds, while Agera R does it at 14.53. Other additions include the Agera R fourpoint seat belts, ceramic Sport ABS brakes, satellite navigation, Intelligent Battery LiFePo4, climate control, monitoring and warning systems, among others.

El entorno invita a descubrir lo mejor de la cocina polaca tradicional aristocrática con un menú que cambia según las estaciones del año. Los vinos para acompañar la cena son impresionantes, con una lista de más de 200 tipos de vinos, que también se pueden disfrutar en la Vinoteka alojada en el patio del hotel con un domo de vidrio, o en el bar localizado en la terraza del techo.

nside the extraordinary Copernicus hotel, a building featuring a gothic façade affiliated with the Relais & Châteaux that dates of the 16th century, one finds the restaurant, without a doubt an embracing spot decorated with frescos and a soffit with wooden beams that provide it a medieval ambience. The surroundings invite one to discover the finest traditional and aristocratic Polish cuisine with a menu that changes according to the seasons. The wine list is impressive, with over 200 choices for diners to select from which can also be enjoyed in the Vinoteka housed on the hotel’s patio featuring a glass dome, or at the bar located on the roof terrace.

Dentro del menú que ofrece el restaurante, encontramos algunos de los mejores platillos preparados con el amor a la cocina polaca: el salmón marinado servido con Metzah dorado; el paté de venado acompañado con los hongos del bosque marinados; los pierogi polacos (tipo de raviolis) rellenos de hongos y col; unos pancakes rellenos de hongos y queso; el foie gras asado en pasta de pan de jengibre servido con manzanas caramelizadas, un exquisito trío de pato con magret, pierna y foie gras; la ternera cocinada con trufas; el puerco preparado con Kasha polaca y salsa balsámica. t the heart of the Champs Elysees is Le Fouquet’s, a beautiful restaurant that is part of the prestigious Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière. Since 1899, the year of its opening, Le Fouquet’s has been the preferred place in Paris for several personalities ranging from Chaplin, Chevalier, Dietrich, Churchill, Roosevelt and Jackie Onassis. For over 100 years, the restaurant has been a popular meeting point for celebrities in popular culture and the big screen. However, it is also a must for anyone who boasts of having traveled to La Ville-Lumière. The kitchen is run by chef Jean-Yves Leuranguer, who in 1997 won the coveted “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”. For the menu of Fouquet’s, he devised creative and original dishes, blending traditional French cuisine with the essence of “brasserie de luxe.” The entries of Le Fouquet’s range from scallops carpaccio accompanied by vegetables and lemon, to the foie gras Fouquet’s with tomato rougail, Jean Todt lobster ravioli with crustaceans dressing, in addition to lobster Fouquet flowers, quinoa grain and citrus vinaigrette. Among the main dishes that the chef Leuranguer prepares are the grilled sea bass with watercress mousse and grilled vegetables, butter fried sole and sea salt with steamed potatoes and Provencal tomato, organic chicken breast with chermoula dressing, or filet mignon with bearnaise sauce accompanied by French fries coin de rue style. aseando por los senderos que recorren el Jimbaran Bay en Bali, descubrimos una puerta, como si fuese una casa balinesa típica. Entramos para descubrir un lujuriante jardín que rodea un estanque del que surgen los nenúfares y lotos, lo cruzamos pisando unas piedras sumergidas en el agua y alcanzamos una maravillosa terraza al borde del estanque. Nos instalamos, viendo a los cocineros que preparan sus platillos en la cocina abierta localizada a lo largo del muro trasero. El ambiente es exquisito, recordando la atmósfera de los tiempos antiguos, el aire circula por la vegetación, los olores llenan el espacio como mezcla de flores y refinada cocina.

alking along the trails that run along the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay in Bali, we found a door, like a typical Balinese house. We went to find a lush garden surrounding a pond from which water lilies and lotuses arise, we crossed stepping stones submerged in water and we reached a wonderful terrace on the edge of the pond. We settled in, watching the chefs prepare their dishes in the kitchen located along the back wall. The ambience is exquisite, recalling the atmosphere of ancient times, the air flowing through the vegetation; aromas filling the space in a subtle mixture of flowers and fine cuisine.

a pasión por coleccionar obras de arte y rodearse de belleza, amén de la urgencia por poseerlas, son constantes en aquellos incansables buscadores de objetos. Símbolo moderno de prestigio, el coleccionismo, a decir de la esteta Susan Sontag, es una verdadera neurosis que resulta de la necesidad del hombre moderno de definirse y expresarse a través de las cosas. Placer o goce estético que trasciende en poder y fama. Cobijo de la Ilustración, ahí donde se democratiza la cultura. Tal fue el caso de la colección Frick, una de las más deslumbrantes y exquisitas que se pueden disfrutar en el corazón de Manhattan. El coleccionista más que poseer obras de arte, se siente poseído él mismo por la urgencia de llegar a conseguirlas. Estas palabras del célebre escritor Honoré Balzac bien pueden describir a Henry Clay Frick. La investigadora Cindy Mark afirma: El nombre Frick se asocia al mundo de los grandes magnates industriales y financieros norteamericanos de las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las dos primeras del siglo XX. A diferencia de John Pierpont Morgan y Andrew Mellon, Frick tuvo que luchar por salir de un mundo de franca pobreza, hasta convertirse en un líder de la industria acerera. Nacido en 1849, en el entonces agrícola Pittsburg, Pensilvania, fue el segundo de seis hermanos. John Frick, agricultor, pero no propietario, sumaba a sus hijos a la labor del campo. En el siglo de las luces, el acero sustituyó al mármol napoleónico y, al tiempo que se erigía la Torre Eiffel para la Exposición Internacional de 1889, comenzaban a construirse las grandes urbes norteamericanas. Con rascacielos de metal y vidrio, competían en altura y fortuna los grandes capitales modernos. En esta coyuntura industrial, Henry Clay Frick apostó por lo que nadie había considerado. En vez del acero, optó por el coque –material derivado del carbón– imprescindible en la fabricación del metal. Antes de cumplir los 30 años, Frick ya era millonario.

Researcher Cindy Mark states: The name Frick is associated to the world of American industrial and financial tycoons in nineteenth century’s late decades and the first two of the twentieth century. Unlike John Pierpont Morgan and Andrew Mellon, Frick had to struggle his way out of a world of marked poverty to become a leader in the steel industry. Born in 1849 in the then agricultural Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was the second of six children. John Frick, a farmer, but not a landowner, added his children to the work in the field. After six years, Henry contracted scarlet fever which became rheumatic fever with severe pain that spared him the arduous working days and made him an outstanding student in mathematics although irregular. At fourteen, he started in the small-scale buying and selling at his uncles’ businesses and at nineteen, he learned accounting at the whiskey distillery ran by his maternal grandfather. After becoming independent and starting wholesale trading, he married Adelaide Childs, whom he met through her father at the Presbyterian Calvinist church. In the Age of Enlightenment, steel replaced the Napoleonic marble, and while the Eiffel Tower was erected for the International Exhibition of 1889, the great American cities began their growth. With metal and glass skyscrapers, the great and modern capitals competed in height and fortune. At this industrial juncture, Henry Clay Frick wagered for what no one had considered. Instead of steel, he opted for coke-a coal-derived material- essential in the man-

Unlike other collectors Henry Clay Frick began its collection for the sake of decorating his modest home. Gradually, refinement, good luck, good taste and an educated eye, would eventually fully integrate, right in Fifth Avenue between the elegant 70th and 71st streets, where a $5 million stunning sober mansion that belonged to the Vanderbilt family stands, one of the finest Western collections of art.

• Las mejoras compras que pueden hacerse en Indonesia son las de artesanías hechas por los habitantes locales, que van desde ropa hasta joyería. El mejor lugar para hacerlo es Jakarta. Uno de los objetos más cotizados y más recomendables de adquirir es el batik, telas teñidas que son la materia prima de ropa, decoraciones y otros objetos. • Para los que deseen disfrutar del surf, Indonesia no tiene una época específica y este deporte puede practicarse durante todo el año. No obstante, la mejor época se da entre mayo y octubre, cuando en la costa del sureste soplan los vientos y las olas son más grandes y consistentes. • Si se planea viajar durante las celebraciones del Ramadán, entre el mes de agosto y septiembre, es importante planear bien los horarios de visitas y salidas, pues como cualquier festividad, los horarios laborales en establecimientos pueden verse afectados. Asimismo, es recomendable conocer un poco sobre el significado de la festividad y cómo comportarse durante ella. • Aunque la temporada de lluvias tiene mala reputación, ésta puede presentar ciertos beneficios.
