When the hot cross buns and Easter eggs disappeared from the shopping centre shelves, so too did the warmer days as we are now greeted with a much chillier start to the mornings. We hope our members enjoyed a wonderful Easter long weekend and are preparing for another cold Winter ahead.
As many of you would be aware, at the recent 2023 NSW State Election, Kylie Wilkinson, the then Labor Candidate for the seat of East Hills was elected into Parliament, thus now making Kylie Wilkinson our Local Member of Parliament for East Hills.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kylie for her well-deserved success. Kylie and her team led a strong campaign for a ‘Fresh Start’ for East Hills and we are very excited to see the improvements they make to our local community in the coming years.
For the members who know Kylie well, they would be well aware of her ever-growing workload as a Director of the Revesby Workers’ Club Board since 28 October 2018, serving as the Deputy Chair on the Biyani House Board and President of Bankstown Jets Touch Association just to name a few. Kylie’s new appointment as our Local Member has meant a review of her positions was required and it was for this reason that Kylie made the difficult decision to resign from her position as Director of Revesby Workers’ Club Ltd effective 4 April 2023.
Kylie has achieved a significant amount in her time serving as a Director for the last 4+ years. Kylie was instrumental in the opening of the Biyani House Revesby Women’s Shelter, has had oversight of the newly renovated Rogues Sports Club and the introduction of Miss Iggy’s and offered support to her sub-clubs, namely Revesby Workers’ Football Club, Senior Golf, Revesby Workers’ Touch Football Club, Indoor Mixed Bowls and more recently the Scrabble Club and Australian Native Orchid Club.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am sure our members would join us in wishing Kylie every success in her new role as our Local Member and thank her for everything she has done not only for the Club but the local Community.
Last month Directors and members of the Scholarship Committee met with recipients of the 2023 Tertiary Scholarships. This year the Club had 31 previous recipients receive their $500 scholarship for their ongoing studies providing a total of $15,500 to previous recipients. 6 of these recipients are in their final year of studies and we take this opportunity to wish them every success on the completion of their degree and as they look to join the workforce permanently.
We also received 14 new applications of which 8 achieved an ATAR of over 90, noting that these high achievements were very similar to last year and set a very high benchmark. The 2023 Scholarship Program awarded 1 male and 1 female with a $3,000 scholarship and 12 applicants with a $500 scholarship totalling $12,000 to new applicants in 2023. All of our 2023 recipients will receive a further $500 for each subsequent year of their degree upon submission of successful results.
This takes the total of Tertiary Scholarship payments in 2023 to $27,500.
An afternoon tea for our scholarship recipients took place on Sunday, 2 April 2022, an event attended by 35 of our recipients and their parents. A special mention must be given to the recipients of the $3,000 scholarships in 2023:
• Sarah Arnold who achieved an ATAR of 96.55 and will be studying a Bachelor of Science and Advanced Studies; and
• Rashad Islam who achieved an ATAR of 97.70 and will be studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Exercise Psychology.
Congratulations to all of our previous and new recipients.
Renovations throughout the Club continue through to late May when the final stage will be completed. We would like to thank our members and guests for their patience in what has been quite a significant renovation.
As you would appreciate, a renovation of this size takes a great deal of collaboration and planning between staff and builders to ensure the project is executed in a timely manner and completed on schedule.
We would like to congratulate our Executive Manager of Gaming, Allison Gibbons and her team for the effort and significant time they have put into this project together with Executive Manager of Facilities, Simon Melham and his team for their ongoing assistance during the renovation itself which was split over 5 separate areas.
No project of this size is without its hurdles, however, all staff involved managed the process from start to finish extremely well while ensuring as little interruption to our members as possible.
We would like to advise our members that the Board of Directors are currently reviewing a proposal for a much-needed renovation to our Auditorium and Functions area in 2024. A project team led by Executive Manager of Food and Beverage, Darren Foots is currently in the planning phase with architects and designers to discuss our requirements and design a new look and feel for the space upstairs. The Board look forward to reviewing their proposal in the coming months.
Subject to Board approval, it is expected that renovations may commence in early 2024 and we ask that our members be mindful of the renovations in the near future as this means function rooms will not be available throughout this period putting a significant amount of pressure on other areas within the Club that are utilised as function spaces. We will endeavour to keep our members well informed of the exact start date of these renovations once known and the expected timeframe that these areas will be non-operational.
We appreciate your patience as we continue to renovate the Club in stages in order to be able to continually offer our members a modern, enjoyable and spacious Club that caters to everyone within the Community.
Daryl Melham AM President Scott Bennetts CEO Director Linda Downey with $3,000 scholarship recipients Sarah Arnold and Rashad Islam. It is with a sad heart that I write this article as it will be my last for the wonderful Revesby Workers’ Club (RWC). As many of you know, I now have the absolute honour and privilege to have been elected to the NSW parliament as the member for East Hills.
To ensure that I can devote all that is required of my new position, I have decided to resign from the RWC Board to fully commit to the exciting new challenges I face.
The RWC Directorship has been a wonderful experience. I have met so many new people and made some great new friends. I am constantly amazed by the charity in our community. The wonderful garden club ladies, the generosity and friendliness of the indoor bowls and the men’s and senior golf clubs have touched me over the years. The social connection and community spirit of our many clubs like the snooker, darts, bowls and fishing clubs are so important to the everyday lives of people living in this community. I also take my hat off to members I have met, some into their 80s and 90s now, who have run our small social and sporting clubs for over 50 years. A great achievement and commitment to our community.
I have had the honour to be the liaison director for our Revesby Workers Soccer Club and the Revesby Workers Touch Footy Club which I established in 2019. I’ve also seen the wonderful work our cricket, netball and athletics clubs do to keep people connected, fit and healthy, both physically and mentally.
I’m also proud of the Club’s provision of financial support to sections of our community through the scholarship, club grants and school support programs. The help and support our club give to these groups are a vital part of the club’s role in our community.
One of the things I have been most proud of was the Club’s leading role in setting up the Biyani House Revesby Women's Shelter. I’ve been privileged to be on the Biyani
House Board and was instrumental in ensuring we opened in January 2022.
Biyani House is an important support resource for vulnerable women and their children. In the first 15 months of the shelter’s operation, Biyani House has housed or supported over 100 women and their families who found themselves in desperate situations. The overwhelming generosity our community has shown to support these women is something we should all be proud of.
My time on the board of RWC will always be very special to me and I have particularly loved meeting all our wonderful staff. I want to sincerely thank Scott Bennetts and Tenielle Symington for all they do to support the board. I am so honoured to have experienced being part of a workforce that truly cares for the club and our community.
This culture comes from the top and includes Sharyn Buhagiar who is the most enthusiastic and compassionate HR manager I have met. I am also so lucky to have worked with Sharyn as a fellow Board member for Biyani House.
Finally to my fellow Board Directors, you are all wonderfully talented, caring and passionate people and it has truly been an honour to work with you. I wish the Club, Board Directors, members and staff all the best for the future and look forward to continuing my friendship with the RWC community.
This history of our club is tied inextricably to that of the area we represent. Formed in 1962 in a working family’s fibro house, the club has grown in size and prestige in parallel with our area’s growth from workers shacks and small farms to the wealthier middle class suburbs we enjoy today.
The original 240 members were drawn from sporting and social clubs, and united under the desire for a decent friendly club they could proudly take their families to. The key to their success though was the presence within their number of many members of the Labor Party, along with quite a few communists and left wing wharfies. The solid political knowledge of these members helped the 240 organise and execute their plan for a Club of their own.
The club has maintained its links to progressive politics over the years. From the Light on the Hill Society and the Whitlam room, to the presence on the board over the years of many local MPs and councillors. This has been an unambiguously good thing for the Club and our area - it has been through their political smarts and ability to get things done that the club has grown into the responsible community facility it is today.
It’s in this spirit that I congratulate my fellow director Kylie Wilkinson on her election as the new Labor Member for East Hills. I have worked with Kylie closely since my election to the board and her dedication to the community is second to none. She is one of those people who sees that something needs doing so does it. She is ethical and smart and everything you want in a local MP.
Kylie will give her all to our community, which sadly means she has had to leave her position as director of our Club. I will miss working with Kylie but I look forward to seeing her set about her plans and see through her commitments.
The government she serves in will be led by the new Premier, Chris Minns. Chris represents the nearby seat of Kogarah, but Chris is also a long term friend of the Club. He has been visiting the club since the 1990s and as leader of the Labor Party has been here several times for Seniors Concerts and other functions. It will be refreshing to have a Premier who doesn’t need a map to find Revesby.
So with Kylie’s election another chapter of the history of our Club’s close ties to the labour movement is written. No doubt it will be a grand one, both for our Club and our local area.
Daryl Melham AM President Baden K irgan Director David Raper Director Christine Benham Director Christine Butters Vice President Linda Downey DirectorFor the third year Revesby Workers’ Club held an International Women’s Day event on Wednesday 8 March 2023.
Proudly partnered with Leagues Club Australia, who represent, inform and support the needs of Member Clubs around Australia.
This annual event once again supported Biyani House - Revesby Women's Shelter. These much-needed funds provide short term emergency accommodation and support to women and their children from our local Canterbury-Bankstown community when they need it the most.
This years’ theme was #EmbraceEquity. Equity isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have. When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. Through equity, we can reach equality.
Hosted once again by LayDee KinMee, Australia’s most in demand drag queens and well known for her incredible vocals and unique yodelling talents, the event welcomed distinctly different and equally inspiring guest speakers Wendy Harmer, Broadcaster, Author, Journalist and Stage Performer and Robbi Mack, leading expert in resilience, performance and influence through the mastery of emotional intelligence.
During the event there were several fundraising activities, a Raffle, Balloon Pop and Guessing Competition. In conjunction with these activities and through the support of our event partner Leagues Clubs Australia, Revesby Workers' Club Board, Sponsors and attendees of this year's International Women's Day event, we collectively raised over $9,000 for Biyani House - Revesby Women’s Shelter.

After 8 years of planning, Revesby Workers' Little Athletics Centre has moved to new grounds this season, Kelso North Regional Sports Precinct. These facilities are shared with East Hills Baseball, Bankstown AFL and Bankstown Grade Cricket Club.
While the facilities are not yet complete the grounds and track for the athletes to compete on is a 100% improvement on what the athletes had to work with over the past decade. The athlete retention numbers, participation in outside competitions and entry into Zone, qualification to Region and now State Championships is testament to this.
This season there was 365 athletes registered with Revesby Workers’ Little Athletics Centre, from Tiny Tots to Under 17. Of those, 153 were new to the Centre. This was the largest number of registrations since the year 2000 when the Olympic Games were held in Sydney. A number of these athletes have been competing in external athletics competitions such as NSW and Australian All Schools and State Juniors and have now qualified to compete at National Juniors in Queensland.
79 athletes in the Under 7-U17 age groups nominated to compete at the Southern Met Zone Championships, held at Illawong in December 2022. From this championship 66 athletes qualified to compete at the Region 8 Championships held at The Crest Athletics Track in early February.
It was a delight to witness 30 of those athletes qualify to compete at the Little Athletics NSW State Track and Field Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre in mid-March. The conditions were extremely hot and challenging; however, many personal bests were achieved and there was a number of medal winners. Of the 30 athletes competing, 18 achieved a top 10 placing or better in NSW. With 6 athletes achieving a podium finish in the top 3 within their chosen event.
The numbers of competitors and qualifiers has been growing year on year, from 13 State qualifiers in 2018-19 season to 26 last season and now 30 this season! A big thank you must go to the Centres dedicated officials and coaches who spend time preparing the athletes and ensuring a varied round of competition events each Friday night.
The People and Culture team work tirelessly to ensure that all staff are kept well informed across all aspects of the Club business by holding two large scale Staff Meetings annually. Equally as important is that these meetings are attended by all staff, management and directors to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to meet one another face to face. As always, the Food and Beverage Team don’t disappoint, as they prepare a full menu of delicious breakfast and afternoon tea items for all in attendance to enjoy prior to the meeting commencing.
The meeting content and delivery is always entertaining, even when covering the very tough topics of Fire and Evacuation, Privacy Policy, Diversity and Inclusion, and Code of Conduct. The team are never short of some practical examples to assist with everyone’s understanding of procedures and policies, which always leads to plenty of laughs.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the learning and development of staff, each year the Club awards several educational scholarships to current employees.
These scholarships, known as Revesby Workers’ Point of Difference ‘R-POD’ Scholarships are each valued at $3,000 for staff attending University, TAFE or a (RTO).
The successful recipients of the 2023 Scholarships are Liam Hewitt, Matthew Christenson and Cindy Tang.
Congratulations to you all!

Regular exercise is a key component to maintaining a healthy heart and reducing your risk of heart disease. Here’s how:
1. Reducing high blood pressure; exercise helps to make your heart stronger and more efficient at pumping blood, which can reduce the pressure on the walls of the arteries.
2. Lowering cholesterol; regular exercise has been shown to help lower LDL (bad) and raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels, reducing your risk of heart disease.
3. Managing weight; being overweight is another risk factor of heart disease. Regular exercise and eating a healthy diet will help you to maintain, or lose weight if necessary, reducing the strain on your heart.
4. Improving your overall cardiovascular health; exercise increases the amount of oxygen your heart receives, improving the elasticity of your blood vessels and reducing inflammation in your body.
To find out more how we can help you get started on a safe and effective exercise journey, please visit us on the ground floor of Revesby Workers’ Club or phone on 8707 6930.

We are reaching out to anyone that would like to join our club as for a multitude of reasons our numbers have dropped. It is a fun day and you don’t have to know how to play to join – members will eagerly teach you. Give me a call if you want to know more about us.
Connie Sorrenti SecretaryWe have had a good start to the year. Four teams entered the District Fours with one team reaching the finals. Sadly, the ladies were defeated by an experienced Grandviews team, but well done to Maureen Higgs, Fay Shean, Jan Pennell and Ellie Atme.
The final of our Club Singles was played between Jan Calderon and Sue Semlitzky. Congratulations to Jan who was successful on the day. We moved on
to the Club Pairs. Games were played in good spirit and Dianne Oliver, Norma Gray, Maureen Higgs and Jan Pennell reached the finals. Maureen and Jan won the finals. Well-done!
The Club Mixed Fours final, held over from last year was finally played. Dianne Oliver, Jan Pennell, Glen Miller and Darrell Oehlman defeated Lyn Gallant, Joy Pavey, Denis Gallant and Dave Raper in a competitive and exciting game. Many of our ladies partnered with the men for the Mixed Pairs. This competition was enjoyed by all. Sue Semlitzky and Shane Matakaiongo played Claire and Peter Chown in the final. Congratulations to Sue and Shane on a fine win.
Jan Calderon, Betty Davidson, Noeline Hanley and Ellie Atme competed in the District Singles. Ellie made it through to the second round but was not successful in that game. Our final major competition, the Club Triples, was played recently with Betty Davidson, Mary Holloway and Sue Semlitzky facing Sandra Weekes, Fay Haddon and Joy Pavey in the final. Our triples champions are Betty, Mary and Sue. The Under 5 years challenge will be played in April and consistency will be determined in May. We look forward to celebrating our combined awards evening with the Men’s Club in July. We look forward to hosting our Christmas in July challenge where teams from all over the district join us for competitive bowls, lovely food and great raffles.
We love to welcome new members. No experience is necessary as coaching will be provided. We play on Thursday mornings and many ladies play with the men on Saturday afternoon as well. If you are interested, please contact our Secretary, Pat Tate on 0408 006 404 or our President, Dianne Oliver on 0412 738 320. See you on the green!

Since the last journal report we have been very busy at our picturesque Sports Club in Spence Street. A great club day of mixed bowls between Christmas and the New Year was enjoyed by all who attended. The Zone Pennant season is well under way with 3 grades entered, 5s, 6s and 7s and at the time of writing all grades have a chance of making the play offs.
The Mixed Pairs final has been played with the team of Sue Semlitzky and Shane Matakionga prevailing over new comer Clare Chown and husband Peter Chown. Both teams performed well on their way
to the finals. The Veterans Singles final for bowlers over 70 years young was won by Alan Kirby defeating Peter Shean in a hard fort game right to the end. The finals of the Major and Minors Singles were held in early April with George Atme defeating Steve Shaw in a thrilling game to win the Minors Title while Peter Chown added another win to his long list of achievements by becoming the Club Champion for 2023 defeating former winner Col Heaslip in overcast conditions. Two of our Bowlers Peter Shean and Peter Chown have been selected to represent Zone 12 in the Seniors section of the upcoming State Championships to be played in May, we wish them good luck in their pursuit of a State Title.
Our Annual Olsens Funerals sponsored Graded Triples Day was held in March with 16 clubs making up the numbers of 78 bowlers on the day. A superb beef baked dinner was served with trays of little pies, chicken skewers and sandwiches following the last of 4 games played. After the winning teams were announced two framed bowls shirts signed by International and Australian players together with a bottle of vintage port donated by Jan Stiskala were auctioned off followed by the huge raffle. A great day was had by all whom attended with all bowlers looking forward to our Terry Raper Melanoma Day to be held later in the year.
Our usual Green Keepers Day supporting the Prostate Cancer Council will be held in August and we invite any new bowlers to try their hand on this very social day. The Annual Bill Bullard Mixed Charity Day will be held on 7 May 2023 and all members of RWC are invited to attend this special day in support of the Clubs main charity. Our recruitment drive encourages new bowlers to come down to the Sports Club and join the bowlers at our picturesque setting or give our President Denis Gallant a call on 0402 114 635 and he will put you in touch with one of our qualified coaches.

Finally, a season that was not impacted by fires, rain, floods, ground closures and pandemic which had devastated our competitions over recent years.
Once again, the Bankstown District Cricket Association affiliated with the Canterbury & Western Suburbs competition for seniors and competitive juniors. Both of these associations also included the St George Association with juniors. As was expected, there were some issues that were worked through as the season
progressed.
However, the greatest challenge this season was the forced adoption of the PlayHQ platform for the Associations and Cricket Clubs throughout NSW. What a debacle – it was forced on us all without consultation, without it being fully developed (and it still isn’t) and at a great cost, which was passed on through every person’s registration.
The Junior and Master Blasters programs throughout the Association were very poorly supported, but we managed to run an 8-week program prior to Christmas and a six week program in February/March
Our junior teams – Stage 1, Stage 2 (U12) and U17s all played their hearts out, but the teams were all very short of players throughout the season – we are actively looking for other players ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Going into the finals, both our 2nd and 6th Grade senior sides found themselves in their respective elimination semi-finals and won them well. 2nd Grade scored 9/201 on Day 1 of their preliminary final against Sydney Risers and headed into Day 2 looking well placed. The match came down to the wire, with our side suffering a devastating loss with 3 balls to go. Well done team on a well fought match.
After making the semi-finals by scraping into 4th place on the ladder in their last round match, and winning their semi-final, our 6th Grade team also won their Preliminary Final and found themselves in the Grand Final confronting De La Salle Kingsgrove, who were minor premiers by a big margin. In extremely hot conditions on both days, the team which had 7 players aged in their 50s and one in his 60s and a smattering of younger legs, really dug in and scored 202 runs on Day 1 and got DLS all out for 167no on Day2 – VICTORY. Congratulations to Captain, Rob and Manager, Chris. You deserved your post-match celebrations at Firestone that evening.
The 2023 Masters Cup (Over 35s Super 8s) are due to run from May until the end of July at Vale of Ah and promises to be loads of fun, as usual. The grounds which were severely flooded last season currently look an absolute picture.
We look forward to holding our Presentations during winter and will start signing on for the next summer comp from 1 July 2023 (online) – just visit the Play Cricket site and enter your postcode and Revesby Workers’ Cricket Club will be one of your options, which I hope you will choose!

The second Matthew (Sharky) Gleeson tournament was played at the Sports Club on 1 April 2023 where there were over 60 players contesting the now Annual Event. It was great to see Matthew’s family in attendance and a big thank you to Matthew’s daughter Sophie Gleeson for providing the trophys and the catering on the day.

The 2023 season is just getting underway. Revesby Workers’ Football Club is made up of 36 teams from 6s to 45s in juniors, seniors, ladies, mixed and men’s competitions, consisting of just over 550 members. We are again fielding strong teams in both the men and women premier league competitions, the highest level of football on offer within the Bankstown District. Once again we need to thank our ever-hardworking Committee Coaches and
Managers for working with us to get everything up and running.
This year is our 60th anniversary year. Keep your eye on social media for details about our celebration event to be held on 20 May 2023 at Marco Reserve. Along with our regular match day activities, we will have some exhibition matches, food, drinks, and inflatables for the young and young at heart. We are hoping to see many past members that day and look forward to a great catch up. As well as our celebration event, we will hold our Annual Trivia Night 29 July 2023 at the Revesby Workers’ Club. Look out for details of both on social media.
Over the summer period, we once again hosted a very successful female competition at Milperra Reserve. Milperra Reserve is now officially the home of Summer Football in Bankstown and hosted over 250 players. We are still looking to fill vacancies in some age groups and divisions. Please contact Dan on 0455 202 025 or Jo on 0410 649 784 for more information.
Thank you to the Board of Directors for their ongoing support and in particular Kylie Wilkinson MP who has an unwavering commitment to grassroots sports in our area and a personal dedication to working alongside us to offer our members yet another outstanding season of football.
See you out on the park!

The Garden Club opened the year in February by introducing the new committee for 2023. In lieu of a guest speaker we had videopics of our successful Christmas lunch. Kylie Wilkinson, a Revesby Workers’ Club Director also came to introduce herself as a candidate in the upcoming NSW State Election.
It was a joy to see the bargain plant table make its appearance again. Prices ranged from twenty cents (seeds and cuttings) to five dollars (established plants in pots), a great way to beautify one’s home! For those amateur gardeners, fear not, there are always experienced ones on hand to help out.
March marked our 34th birthday and once again, we had a table full of goodies for morning tea. Many thanks to everyone who contributed a plate! Our March guest speaker was bush Poet Ralph Scrivens. He dispelled the common misconception that bush poetry is only about the bush and the outback. His emotive voice and actions gave life to poems ranging from the poignant to the hilarious. Such was the audience appreciation that he is expected to make a comeback at the end
of this year! April will usher in a totally different type of guest speaker – the Velobanjogent, a trio of banjo players! On 29 April, we look forward to having our Autumn Coach Tour to Red Cow Farm, renowned for its beautiful garden ‘rooms'. We will also visit the Moss Vale Services Club (lunch) and Mt Murray Hill Nursery. Our guest speaker for May will be astrophysicist Prof. Richard de Grijs. He is a member of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Archaeology team. His topic will be ‘From the First Fleet to the Harbour Bridge’. Floral competitions for the month of May will centre around Mother’s Day to honour all mothers out there. Happy Mother’s Day!
For June we have earmarked Cleo Lynch as guest speaker. After retiring from the NSW Department of Corrective Services, she became a writer and a volunteer TAFE tutor. She is also a radio reader for the print handicapped. June also marks our celebration of Friendship Day. As the Garden Clubs of Australia’s (GCA) motto is “Friendship through Gardens” we always invite GCA members from other clubs to join our meeting.
In July, another interesting guest speaker will be on our list. Variety is the spice of life and that is what we always aim for! Our monthly floral competitions and raffles are still in full swing. Everyone is invited to our meetings, which are held on the first Saturday of each month at the Workers Club, from 10am to 12pm.
For more information, visit our website www.rwcgarden.com
At the time of submitting this report, we had recently received sad news of the passing of our ex-President, Priscilla Duncan, in March. She will be remembered for her efficiency and dedication to her position. May Priscilla Rest in Peace.

We have had quite a few busy months recently celebrating our 40th Anniversary. At our 40th Anniversary event we had many previous members attend and share their memories. We were extremely privileged to also have Alison Miller, the Founder of the Ladies Group, speak at our event. Alison founded the Ladies Group back in 1983 on the 9th of March. Thank you very much Alison for creating this wonderful group, we enjoy attending regularly and we look forward to many more events in the future. The Ladies Group held their AGM and are ever so grateful for the work that our Committee have done over the last year. I look forward to working with you all again this year. We have many guest speakers and monthly bus trips planned for the upcoming months which we are looking forward to.

Julie Wursten CoordinatorThe Hawkesbury Unit had a very busy summer season with everything from a snake relocation to stingray attack.
In January we were tasked by The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) after a satellite Mayday signal was received from a Personal Locator Beacon. Marine Rescue Hawkesbury was first on scene and later joined by Marine Area Command and Polair. Thankfully it was a happy ending for all involved including much loved Fletcher the dog. We also provided marshalling assistance in the Sydney to Hobart, Sydney Harbour NYE, The Big Swim, and the Sydney Paddle Series Palm Beach Pursuit. As the boating season ends and we head into the cooler months it is a good idea to take the time and update any safety equipment. This includes downloading the latest version of the Marine Rescue NSW App which has recently been upgraded with several new features including interactive maps, weather, and safety checklists.
If you would like to support Marine Rescue Hawkesbury please contact us at hawkesbury@marinerescuensw.com.au.

Congratulations to both Nicholas Macher achieving silver in the 15yrs 5km and Johan Briedenhann achieving bronze in the open multi-class swim.
Great effort by our junior mixed relay team who came away with the silver medal. The team consisted of Rishabh Arcot, Nicholas Macher, Miriam Gauld and Abbie Clay.
Open State was an opportunity for our senior swimmers to prepare for Nationals in April. We had some great performances across the board and exciting to see our Australian Dolphin Abbey Connor win the 200m Butterfly. Congratulations to our relay girls – Kate Edwards, Kirrily Edwards, Emily Maythers and Abbey Connor who won the gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and bronze in the 4x100m medley relay. 23 of our junior swimmers competed at the Junior State Championships at the end of March and we are extremely proud of their efforts.
