FOR BUYERS: MASTER THE GUN MARKET
Buying, selling, and collecting firearms can be a rewarding endeavor and an excellent long-term investment. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your firearms transactions. Happy collecting!
Understand What You’re Buying
When buying old collectibles like guns, expect some wear. If it looks too perfect, be careful it might be fake.
Focus on Vintage and Collectible Firearms
Over the last decade, the values of early lever action Winchesters, Marlins, Colts, Smith & Wessons, Brownings, and Remingtons have risen considerably.
Consider Military Rifles
Military collectors should buy original, unaltered service rifles in good condition.
Think Long-Term
Well-kept firearms, like classic cars, can gain value. Keep them in good condition.
Store Safely and Carefully
Store guns in a safe with desiccant, not their boxes. Check for moisture and use rust inhibitor.
FOR SELLERS:
Clean Your Firearms
Clean guns well for photos. Good pictures mean higher prices.
Set Realistic Value Expectations
Gun values depend on condition, rarity, and originality. Modifications usually lower value.
Obtain Factory Documentation
Factory letters add value, especially for Colt, Winchester. Contact collector associations for help and more information.
Keep Original Boxes and Accessories
Original boxes, manuals, and factory cleaning kits for vintage firearms can increase value by hundreds of dollars.
Sell Optics Separately
Scopes rarely add value, unless they’re originals like Unertl/Fecker on a Winchester 52.

4-H IS MORE THAN JUST A PROGRAM
GROWTH, SERVICE, AND CONNECTION.
IT IS A LEGACY OF SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL 4-H
Building Future Leaders Across Ohio
We encourage everyone to support 4-H and county fairs across Ohio, whether by attending events, volunteering, or sponsoring a project.
4-H is far more than just an extracurricular activity. It’s a program that encourages young people to explore their interests, take on challenges, and develop skills in a wide range of fields—from agriculture and livestock to science, technology, and the arts. Through these projects, youth learn essential life skills like leadership, teamwork, and responsibility. These are lessons that shape their futures, preparing them to become active, successful members of society.
4-H is particularly valuable in the rural communities, where it gives young people a sense of purpose and connection to their community. Through projects that span everything from raising animals to creating art, 4-H participants gain practical experience and a deep appreciation for hard work. Their efforts come to life each year at Ohio’s county fairs, where families, friends, and community members gather to celebrate their achievements.
At RES Auction Services, we’re proud supporters of Ohio’s 4-H programs and local county fairs, recognizing the positive impact they have on youth, families, and our communities.
COUNTY FAIRS
Local county fairs are a highlight of 4-H in Ohio, providing a stage for young people to showcase their dedication and skills. These events not only honor the hard work of 4-H members but also bring our communities together.
EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION
We encourage everyone to support Ohio 4-H. Attend events, volunteer, or sponsor a project. Together, we can empower the next generation with the resources and encouragement they need to thrive.
“AT RES WE’RE PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS LEGACY AND LOOK FORWARD TO SUPPORTING ALL THAT OUR LOCAL 4-H MEMBERS ACHIEVE IN THE YEARS TO COME . ”
