FREE STATE: The Free State has recorded the highest number of residents subjected to the use of bucket toilets.

According to the latest NonFinancial Census of Municipalities, the province together with the Northern Cape, North West, and the Eastern Cape - has recorded an increase of pit latrine users.

The survey indicates that 37 out of 257 municipalities provided bucket toilets to residents in 2019, with most of them being those in the Free State. The Free State’s Setsoto, Nala, Nketoana, Ngwathe and Metsimaholo Municipalities are ranked among the top ten municipalities countrywide with inadequate sanitation.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has confirmed that whilst provision of bucket toilets dropped by 47.6% from 2015 to 2019, most municipalities continue to struggle with the eradication of bucket toilets and provision of other basic

services.

Meanwhile, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has welcomed the report, stating that it is pleased local government is making progress in delivering services to the communities they serve.

The association in a statement has, however, raised concerns over municipalities that have been struggling to eradicate the bucket toilet system, particularly those in the Free State and North West - as they recorded an increase in 2019 as compared to 2018. More than 7 000 residents in the Free State’s Setsoto Municipality alone were provided with buckets of toilets in 2019. “SALGA has also taken note that the number of consumer units receiving services for free has declined.

This is due to municipalities having changed their systems for the identification and management of indigent households”.

Cleaning campaign held in Nketoana ending in great results REITZ: Recently the Nketoana Local Municipality held its Service Delivery Mayoral Imbizo and residents came forward and attended. The mayor listened to the residents and several issues were brought to the table. As expected, consistent water supply and electricity interruptions in Ntha, Lindley, Arlington, and Leratswana

were placed on the table for discussion. Another topic that received attention, was the overall cleanliness of the towns. On Friday, 09 April 2021 a Cleaning Campaign in Leratswana, led by the Honorable Mayor Cllr Mamiki Mokoena, was held. Roads and public spaces were thoroughly cleaned, even by the mayor herself.

NASIONAAL: Skole en klubrugby het op Donderdag 01 April 2021 baie goeie nuus ontvang , toe SA Rugby toestemming verleen het dat spelers in April 2021 na rugbyvelde kan terugkeer, na 'n jaarlange onderbreking weens die Covid-19-pandemie. Terwyl klubspanne op Maandag 12 April die groenlig kry om weer te mag speel, gaan skole se rugby 'n bietjie later, op Vrydag 23 April, met wedstryde begin. Die besluit is geneem na aanleiding van 'n aankondiging deur die Departement van Basiese Onderwys wat aangedui het dat skole wedstryde en nasionale toernooie sonder toeskouers kan begin, en onderhewig gaan wees aan baie streng gesondheids- en

Skole en klub-rugby kry die groen-lig van departement

Spelers moet in ag neem dat hierdié protokolle gebaseer is op mediese bewyse, met die doel om te verseker dat die spelers se liggame gereed is om die impak van volle kontak te kan hanteer en beserings tot die minimum beperk word.”

CANSA-werker stort haar hart uit na meisie haar stryd teen siekte verloor

FOTO’S: Op die foto heel links, is Kaylyn, ‘n meisie (16) van Prieska, oor wie die Facebook inskrywing gemaak is en wie onlangs weens kanker, haar stryd verloor het. Op en in die foto heel regs, is Sonet van Zyl van CANSA, saam met ‘n paar hospitaal personeel, van wie die name nie bekend is.

▪ Corné van Noordwyk Elf-uur Woensdag oggend snuffel ek vining en kyk gou wat al my vriende en familie mee spog op Facebook. Dis ‘n grappie hier, ‘n ‘mooi-gemaakte’-foto daar, maar skielik tref my oog iets dieper. ‘n Oud kollega van my wat selde iets op Facebook plaas, maar die keer, ‘n lang inskrywing waarvan mens dadelik die diepte daarvan kan aanvoel. Haar naam is Sonet van Zyl. Ek en sy het ‘n paar jaar terug saam gewerk op radio, maar ons paaie het weens werksomstandighede later geskei. Sonet werk met kanker. Sy is ‘n Gemeenskaps Mobiliseerder vir Dienslewering by CANSA in Bloemfontein en voorheen op Bethlehem. Ja, daardié lelike woord wat almal hoop om nooit op hulle oudag ooit te hoef hoor nie. Sonet sien daagliks die dood, maar ook baie keer verhale van hoop. Veral as dit by kanker kom, want daar is baie suksesverhale waarvan sy my altyd van vertel het, van mense wat die siekte oorwin. Sy self is ‘n oorwinaar van kanker. Ongelukkig is haar inskrywing dié keer, gevul met geweldige hartseer. Die terugkyk van ‘n jong lewe, wat onlangs haar stryd teen die siekte

verloor het. Die meisie se naam is Kaylyn. ‘n jong meisie van Prieska, wat se afsterwe met groot skok en hartseer opgeneem is, selfs, vir ‘n werker van CANSA. Sonet skryf: “Op 2 Desember 2020 het ek 'n oproep ontvang van iemand in Prieska. ‘Daar is 'n dogter 16 met breinkanker in Universitas, kan jy asb die ouers ondersteun.’ Min het ek geweet dat dit die oproep was wat my seker die meeste lewens lesse sou bring.

My eerste kuier by jou was vining, want jy het geslaap en ek het so pienk gebreide hasie vir jou langs jou bed gelos. So het jy deel van my elke dag bestaan geword. Ek het jou pappa en mamma ontmoet en min geweet dat ons op die ou end ook harts vriende gaan word, wat nie net trane en lag oor jou deel nie, maar ons het soveel ander dinge in gemeen waaroor ons kan lag en gesêls. Ou Wilson het toe ook deel begin word van ons samesyn en eintlik het ek geweet hy was net stout sodat hy elke dag lekker by jou kon gaan kuier. In die hospitaal was dit nie altyd maklik nie en met die COVID-19 krisis het jy ook deel van my vriendinne se harte geword, wat elke dag vir jou bederfies gevat het, maar so het jy ook hulle laat besef hoe kosbaar

is tyd, lag en gesonde kinders. Jou vrolike ‘hello tannie’ en opgewondenheid oor alles het my altyd verstom, want ek het mos geweet, heng jy voel net niks lekker vandag nie maar jy lag. Saam kon ek baie spesiale oomblikke met jou deel soos, jou droom met die rooi Ferrari's.

Jou opgewonde histerie oor oom Jaco Jacobs se boeke wat hy spesiaal vir jou geteken het. Sowat 2 weke terug het ek geweet jy wil so graag nog baklei, maar jou lyfie is net so moeg en ek het geweet dat geleende tyd genade tyd was en my hart was seer, maar ek was ook dankbaar vir die geleentheid om die laaste paar maande met jou te kon deel.

Jy het my geleer van lag, al wil jy net huil. Jy het my verseker geïnspireer om op te staan vir tieners in onkologieë vir die nodige ondersteuning. Jy het my geleer om opgewonde te raak oor cutex en Mc Donalds. Vanoggend was jou tyd by ons verby en eerlik, ek het my oë uitgetjank, maar daar is trane van vrede en blydskap by. Jy is sonder pyn en gelukkig.

Dankie Kaylyn vir 'n ongelooflike tyd saam met jou en ook aan jou ouers wat my sonder vrae deel gemaak het daarvan. Jy is 'n Ledgend.”

Citroen’s updated C3 hatchback has arrived in South Africa and it’s now quirkier than ever! Take a look at specification and pricing details below...

Citroen made a comeback in South Africa in 2019 with a focus on 2 core products, the C3 hatchback and the larger C5 family car, both of which are offered in Aircross guise. We had both models on test last year and we love how they set themselves apart stylistically from the rest of the brigade in their respective segments.

Now, Citroen has upped the ante and introduced a facelifted version of the C3 which features a revised front-end with new LED headlights and reworked chrome detailing which now extends to the LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The fog light bezels, Airbumps and rear bumper have been reworked with a more youthful flair.

More than this, customers will be able to customise their C3 more than ever before too with a choice of new body colour options, 2-tone combos, varying colour inserts and graphic options. The updated Citroen C3 is offered in either Feel trim or in top-spec Shine guise. Moving inside, the C3 is now fitted with Advanced Comfort seats from the C5 Aircross, which bumps up comfort levels substantially as does an armrest for the driver. The fascia can be had in a very stylish ‘Techwood’ finish while soft-touch materials add to a pleasantly styled cabin. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system is fitted and comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Mirror Screen and voice recognition are also fitted. Easy carrot cake

Ingredients •230ml vegetable oil, plus extra for the tin •100g natural yogurt •4 large eggs •1½ tsp vanilla extract •½ orange, zested •265g self-raising flour •335g light muscovado sugar •2½ tsp ground cinnamon •¼ fresh nutmeg, finely grated •265g carrots (about 3), grated •100g sultanas or raisins •100g walnuts or pecans, roughly chopped (optional) For the icing •100g slightly salted butter, softened •300g icing sugar •100g soft cheese

Method •STEP 1 Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Oil and line the base and sides of two 20cm cake tins with baking parchment. Whisk the oil, yogurt, eggs, vanilla and zest in a jug. Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg with a good pinch of salt in a bowl. Squeeze any lumps of sugar through your fingers, shaking the bowl a few times to bring the lumps to the surface.

•STEP 2 Add the wet ingredients to the dry, along with the carrots, raisins and half the nuts, if using. Mix well to combine, then divide between the tins.

•STEP 3 Bake for 25-30 mins or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. If any wet mixture clings to the skewer, return to the oven for 5 mins, then check again. Leave to cool in the tins.

Deur Danie Cronjé •STEP 4 To make the icing, beat the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add half the soft cheese and beat again, then add the rest (adding it bit by bit prevents the icing from splitting). Remove the cakes from the tins and sandwich together with half the icing. Top with the remaining icing and scatter with the remaining walnuts. Will keep in the fridge for up to five days. Best eaten at room temperature.
