To whom it may concern,
I have been eager and excited to apply for fifth-year options within my M.Arch program at the University of Kansas, especially the Paris Program. Fifth year is an opportunity to explore, live in other cultures, and work with people worldwide. This exciting experience will allow me to broaden my perspective both personally and professionally. As an architecture student, the transformative experience of the Paris Program would align with my passions for architecture, arts, and textiles.
For my third year at the University of Kansas, studying Architecture, I joined thirteen other students under the direction of Chad Kraus to design and build a small CLT home in partnership with a local not-for-profit, Tenants to Homeowners. This project offered a real-world experience of team collaboration and design, understanding and navigating city permits, and hands-on construction. This experience showed me I enjoy working with others and find great importance in the impact my work makes. Phoenix House and other projects throughout my school career have focused on accessibility and positive impacts on the community. From high school to the present day, I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer and partner with organizations such as The Sunrise Movement, Tenants to Homeowners, and Family Promise. When I design I seek to create safe spaces that fit the needs of the community I serve. I aim to continually create positive impacts throughout my career.
Collaborating with professionals from around the world would offer fresh perspectives to my work and life. The opportunities provided by the fifth-year M.arch program at The University of Kansas would enrich my approach to architecture, design and any other passions that lie ahead in my future. I’m eager and excited to start my career as a professional architect and my knowledge has expanded exponentially since attending KU, I’ve grown to understand the importance of details and accuracy in my work and I look forward to future learning opportunities provided by KU and my fifth-year experience. Thank you for your time and for being a part of my educational journey.
Thank you for your consideration,

Reese Gilmore
