GAU PASS
Gau brings forth Brazilian Reggae with new Jubba White Collaboration
S
ão Paulo, Brazil (Sonique Solutions) – Brazilian singer Gau Pass has made another step forward in spreading the gospel of Reggae music throughout her native land and the entire Latin American market with her latest release, a Portuguese version of Jamaican Jubba White’s song ‘You Got Me Going On’. ‘You Got Me Going On’ is a smooth, romantic, love-centred song which was originally written and produced by Jamaican singer, songwriter, drummer and music producer Jubba White. With the assistance of Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Juninho V and Brazilian Reggae Band Unidade 76., Gau Pass adapted the track to Portuguese at the invitation of Jubba himself, for a larger project in which several singers from around the world recorded their own version. Regarding this collaboration which has already received praise by fellow musicians and producers for its instrumentation and lyrics, Gau stated, “When I chose to pursue music professionally, I understood that the lyrics of the songs which I chose to record should truly speak to me and be something meaningful for me to express, lyrics that translate my spirit and soul. So I’m very happy to collaborate with Jubba for this musical project”. Gau, who also dabbles in Jazz and is able to sing in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Arabic, comes from a musical family with her father being a vocalist and her two brothers being instrumentalists. Additionally, she has received formal music education, is involved in musical curatorship and currently handles music programming for a Brazilian cultural institution. The classically trained Brazilian singing sensation considers her style to be an eclectic fusion as it incorporates elements of Reggae, Jazz, Opera and even music of Middle-Eastern origin. 4
RED INK MAGAZINE
No newcomer to the Reggae music world, Gau who previously recorded an English-language cover of Jesse Royal’s ‘Rock it Tonight’ has been a fan of the genre for over two decades and will soon release her first album featuring collaborations with composers from Jamaica, Nigeria, Gambia, Morocco and Brazil. She aspires to work directly with Jesse Royal and artistes such as Koffee, Inner Circle, Protoje, Naomi Cowan & Lila Iké and most importantly to heal people’s emotional and spiritual wounds through music and to use it as
a platform for social activism. With a clear purpose to record songs which carry messages of love, peace, harmony, equality, gratitude and compassion for people, Gau shared these words of inspiration with the public, “Never lose sight and practice gratitude and charity. Gratitude is an obligation and charity is not an option but an obligation as well.” Follow Gau Pass on IG www.instagram.com/glaupass/ YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/GauPass 5

TY HANNAH American Singer / Songwriter & Composer
A
merican Singer Songwriter and
Composer, Ty Hannah was born in the city of Sumter, South Carolina, where his love for music was rooted. Since 1993 he has been showcasing his passion for music in a variety of talent shows in Columbia, SC and its surrounding areas. Ty was the vital piece in forming a quartet in 1996 named “The Sons of Harmony”, and was collectively chosen by the group to be lead vocalist. They performed at many shows and competitions together thru the year 2000, when Ty Hannah chose to move to Minnesota to continue his education in the field of music. Shortly thereafter, he was rediscovered and joined a trio, which birthed his recording career with experienced musicians and producers such as James “Poppa” Guer, former guitarist of "The Time". Ty’s first tour experience was with R&B Badboyz, “V.I.P”, of Baby Honey Records, managed by B. Rich and Lance “L.A.” Alexander, co founder of” Lo Key?” of Minneapolis, MN. He accompanied showings with Soul Brothers "Ruff Endz", formerly of Epic/Sony in 2001. While obtaining his degree in ‘Radio Broadcast Communications & Journalism’ at Brown College in Mendota Heights, MN, he began Djing at the popular downtown Minneapolis club, “Club Tropix”, with Eric James in 2001. After establishing himself in the club scene as a DJ, Ty returned home and began working and developing himself as a solo artist, and while working at Sumter’s Kiss FM Radio Station, he started recording and tweaking his own sound. After moving to Orlando, Florida he began performing live shows each week under the name “TyLuv”. This led to recording with new producers and artists such as: Dirty Baker’s “Brova Brotha’s” Al "Shaft" Washington and Ike Burna, J Biz, Smilez and SouthStar and more. Ty added to his solo work efforts by winning a promotional bit with the Orlando based reality show, “Back to Reality”, where he performed weekly at Orlando’s 12
nightclub, “The Blue Room”. Still pursuing his dream as a solo artist, Ty Hannah took on "American Idol’s" contestant ploy when the show came to Orlando, Fl, in 2005. Ty Hannah is exalted that he is an ‘active’ INDIE act with his first EP album release on April 25, 2009, titled “EarCandy”. This was one of the first albums to be released, available for purchase, and downloaded through an online digital platform. He used this opportunity to stand apart from MOST by promoting the “better alternative”, downloading his music thru stores like Itunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and Amazon. At that time this was unheard of! The single “She Deserves”, from this album, personifies that Ty Hannah is a true, smooth “crooner”, like artist similar to the “R. Kelly’s”, “Charlie Wilson’s”, “Jodeci’s”, and “Dru Hill’s”. Continued...on page 14

Further advancing his career, he built relationships with ‘industry legends’ and ‘Grammy winning’ musicians, having the pleasure of working on projects with some, such as Mikael Man, former guitarist of The Legendary Commodores in 2013. Look forward to more from Ty Hannah soon.. RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of asking Ty Hannah a few questions. This is what he told us. REDINK: Who or what influenced you to get into the music business? TH: I was influenced to get into the music business by my long lasting passion and love for the art of music-making. This love has been with me since the 14
day I was born. I would have to say as an individual it has to be my father, when he bought me my first Casio keyboard that I knew that it meant something but at that time I didn't know why he bought it for me. REDINK: Tell us some of your struggles in the business, if any? TH: After 15 + years of being in the music business as an independent, it is always difficult not having major budgets or major promotion behind you it's always a little tougher getting the music out there but doable. REDINK: What are you currently on? TH: Right now, I am currently promoting a single from a larger project, this single is tiltled "Get There" which is a single from Alleviation" my next lp. The single is a exclusive release available only on my Patreon for the Patrans and any new patrans. REDINK: If you could collaborate with someone, who would it be and why? TH: It was always a long-time dream to collaborate with the white Michael Jackson just the way he created music and the way it came out and his innovative way as he got to be an older mature artist, it was something I always wanted to be a part of with Michael Jackson, I would have enjoyed to get a collaboration or to have been a part of. REDINK: What can we expect from you in the future?
RED INK MAGAZINE
TH: Presenting my next full project I feel it will be one of the greatest R&B soul projects to be made with its lyrics and passionate vocal display and cadences done in the way that the music is orchestrated and put together and I feel that this album will MAKE a mark in music history! look out for "Alleviation" and check out some of my singles available right now from the album such as "YOU and I" "9 to 5" and now "GET THERE" which also was a song inspired by my late brother, hopefully ones who

RED INK MAGAZINE WELCOME TO ICNA-MAC 4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 2003
Continued...from page 23 RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Hope Wade. This is what she told us. REDINK: Who or what influenced you to get into the fashion industry? HW: That's a loaded question, lol. I was not really influenced to get into the fashion industry it was a matter of necessity is the mother of invention. I attended Cooper Union College and upon graduation I was recruited for a job by this company in Brooklyn. I was one of the main designers for their etch designs on glass. I was sent to Chicago to do a trade show, which was very successful. They asked my boss to train me in this direction. After a couple months of doing well, he called me into his office and told me that basically everything he had including his car, home and vacations were funded by the company and he felt I was being groomed for his job, so he fired me! Didn't have #METOO to fight for me. The church I was attending at the time was having a concert for New Years Eve and asked that the congregation dress in formal attire. I had just purchased a new car right before I was fired, so I was trying to figure out how to hide my car and avoid my landlord for a week until I got my unemployment check. I decided to sew a dress, asked my mom how to use her machine, used a male friend as a mannequin. I wore the dress and my girlfriends were surprised I had bought a dress, I had to show them the inside out to convince them I hadn't. It was really shoddy stitching . After that they started ordering from me and that's how I started sewing and designing. REDINK: Tell us some of your struggles and triumphs you had in your journey. HW: As I was a self taught designer/seamstress it took me a while to complete a dress. I used to do in home shows by asking friends to invite 3-5 people to their homes and I would do a mini fashion show. Maybe 2 people would make an order and it would take 3 weeks to finish. Well a famous Jamaican reggae artist's wife invited me to her home in Long Island to do a show and had over 30 people! I almost passed out praying no one would order. Well the opposite happened so many people wanted to order and then there were 7 women who were going on a cruise and ordered 3 dresses each to be completed in 2 weeks. I worked like 18-20 hours a day trying to complete the order. Well I couldn't finish one dress in time and that client was very upset and said she'd be telling all her friends not to order from me. I was so devastated, I didn't sew for anyone for a year. Looking back I realised I was physically and mentally exhausted and quite vulnerable as in this business it's word of mouth and approval that keeps your business going. 24
I've had to struggle to teach myself how to complete garments with a pristine finish. Because I'm formally trained with a degree in graphic design I can sketch very well and the client knows what they're getting, my difficulty is to meet and exceed that expectation. Even though I've had many years of experience and a long and satisfied clientele, I still sometimes am very hard on myself. Deadlines are very important to me and I will stay up for upwards of 40 hours straight not to miss a deadline. Triumph is when Grammy winner and Rock n Roll icon, DARLENE LOVE came to GOSPEL MUSIC IN THE PARK in Rockland County and saw one of my designs in a fashion show I do every year for them. It's produced by my husband Paul. She ordered the finale piece which was a red silk flute gown, which had graced the runway of Caribbean Fashion Week. She wore it to perform on the last Christmas show of the David Letterman Show. That gown was later inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland Ohio. Triumph is when I was asked to design the gold beaded scarf gown by the Miss Jamaica World Pageant organizers for Kadijah Robinson, Miss Jamaica World 2018 to wear at the pageant in China. Triumph is when I was presented with the prestigious Woman Of Excellence Award by the Alpha Academy Alumnae Association in Kingston Jamaica for distinction in the field of professional activity in my chosen field and demonstration of outstanding leadership abilities along with proven strength of character.
RED INK MAGAZINE
REDINK: Do you have a favorite collection that you are most proud of? If yes, which one? HW: Yes Caribbean Fashion Week 2015 in Kingston Jamaica, my collection- Black Lives Matter which was done in burlap with gold sequins and printed graphics. The line was regal, it had message art silkscreened on some of the pieces that had a dramatic flair. It was very well received and was parlayed in the press and media to rave reviews. I believe that artists, which a fashion designer is, has an obligation at some point to speak through their respective medium on the pressing matters of the day.
REDINK: If you could dress one celebrity who would it be and why? HW: Tracee Ellis Ross! I love her fashion sense which is dramatic, pushing boundaries and just elegant. I think she would look great in my designs as we have the same distinct passion for the bold but eclectic, scream your way into everybody's life by saying, LOOK! I'm here. REDINK: What next, can we expect from Hope Wade? HW: Well I just successfully finished producing the second Rockland Fashion Week 2021 which had over 500 patrons and 13 designers. It has been incubating in my mind for over 4 years before I took the bold step of doing it in 2019 to a sold out audience and then I was approached by the Palisades Center to
4th Annual ICNA-MAC Conference, 2003
produce the second one there. They've already booked RFW 2022 for this year November 5th. I have a new store that I opened in the middle of the pandemic at 23 N Broadway in Nyack, NY that is doing very well. I'm about to work on a tv production that's in it's earliest stage, my goal this year is to work on opening a manufacturing factory that designers can have their work professionally finished so that it can be showcased in retail stores and for online orders. I'm also looking to expand my brand internationally. Being a wife to Paul and a mother to our daughter Jasper, who is in college at Syracuse University, means that I'm leading by example but I have to carve out time for my family I wear many hats including being the president of 2 organisations, JAMCCAR Jamaica Civic and Cultural Association of Rockland and Alpha Academy Tristate Alumnae Association as well as I sit on the board of Cooper Union Alumni Association. I am also an ordained evangelist which means I have to try to live the Word. This concludes our interview with Hope Wade. Support this talanted & exceptional Designer. Check out her website.
