walking to church or going by open wagon (pulled by a mule). Church buildings were huge, wooden, and cold. She told us of how the restroom was an outhouse, which was too cold during the winter and too hot during the summer. I also had the opportunity to have a relationship with my great-grandmother Dora (Mama T’s mother). Then there was Grandma Allie. We spent many Sunday mornings praying together as a family at Grandma Allie’s house before church. When I think about it now, I realize how blessed we were to have had his faith transformation on a daily basis. As with my own children, I begin praying, reading the bible, and taking Ava to church as an infant. She loves Jesus and everything about church. Children’s church is a treat, however even when it appears she is not listening during joint church service, she regurgitates whatever the Pastor says and later repeats it at home. She prays for all of us after church. One of the most important ways I influence her life is by teaching her how to pray. I pray daily for her salvation, and the salvation of her parents. I pray that they will come to know the Lord in a deeper and more powerful way. As 36

their relationship grows with Jesus Christ, they will also pass their faith to future generations through Ava. Lifting her up in prayer will make an eternal difference in her life. My love for her is like no other. I also pray her parents will always love her enough to teach her to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. I have a responsibility to model Jesus to Ava just as Lois and Eunice did with Timothy. If my life does not honor

God, than I have failed. If my walk doesn’t match my talk and teaching, how can I teach her to trust God in all things. Teaching her compassion, love, gentleness, and kindness, and, that she should have the reflection of the fruit of the Spirit. I also have a responsibility to make sure she knows to imitate a spiritual life with God and not the world. There is nothing more important than a personal relationship with God.
