This is open to all administrators, coaches, committee members or players to meet , in a like minded capacity, share ideas, gain new information, and be part of a community focused on strengthening sport and physical activity. This will be a free opportunity for representatives from all sporting clubs in Upper Hutt to attend, and for participants to catch up with other sporting codes representatives. Sports Strapping Activation recently held a Sports Strapping Workshop for coaches, players and parents. ProActive Physiotherapists provided a hands on strapping session which included the basics of shoulders, knees and ankles. USL Medical provided all participants with strapping tape. Activation Is Recruiting Position: RECREATION ADVISOR – Community and Programmes. We are looking for someone who is passionate about increasing physical activity, health and wellbeing in Upper Hutt! The Advisor will facilitate and promote physical activity as a life skill to Upper Hutt residents; develop programmes and events that provide the community with active recreation opportunities; and develop and facilitate health and wellness initiatives for our community with the aim of enhancing Upper Hutt residents’ physical and social wellbeing. Outward Bound Volunteer Scholarship Once again this year Outward Bound have kindly offered Volunteer Wellington two places on their Discovery courses in 2014 and there is one place left to be filled. The course on offer is the 27 - 45years Discovery Course, taking place from 3 - 10 August 2014. The course is free but there is a cost of $500 for travel and other sundries. Wellington Sports Awards Sport Wellington is delighted to announce that nominations for The Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards 2014 are now open! It’s time to recognise who has been achieving in your sport since April 2013. The awards, organised by Sport Wellington, are one of the most prestigious events on the Wellington sporting calendar. The evening ceremony will be held at the TSB Bank Arena on Thursday 12 June. Now in their 45th year the awards seek to celebrate excellence in sport throughout the Greater Wellington Region. Sport Wellington welcomes nominations from the general public, sports organisations and the media in the following 13 categories: Sportsman, Sportswoman, Coach, Team, Disabled Sportsperson, Personality, Emerging Sportsman and Emerging Sportswoman, Club, Administrator, Volunteer, Official and Lifetime Achievement. This year’s key dates are: • 2 April 2013 to 22 April 2014 – Achievement period • 5 May 2014 – Nominations close at 5pm • 5 May 2014 – Ticket go on sale for Awards evening • 16 May 2014 - Finalists are announced in The Dominion Post • 12 June 2014 – Awards evening 6.30pm – 10.30pm Please encourage nominations from your board, committees, clubs, managers, officials, coaches and administrators. This is a chance to not only showcase your high performance sportspeople but to also shine a light on the administrators, volunteers and officials who make your sport happen. This is your sport’s opportunity to celebrate its successes and to recognise your champions!
