2022 MEMBERSHIP The Dearborn Heights Ski & Snowboard Club is for skiers and snowboarders in grades 6-12. It provides members many services including: lessons, skiing/boarding with other members and participation in any or all of the trips at reduced rates. You must purchase a membership to participate in the club. MEMBERSHIP FEE $12.00 for Dearborn Heights residents, $15.00 for non-residents (See Application On Back) THIS FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE. TRIP FEES Skier: $44.00 if you have your own equipment $64.00 if you need equipment rental Snowboarder: $54.00 if you have your own equipment $75.00 if you need equipment rental This includes lift ticket, lesson ticket, proficiency patches and transportation. ALL LESSON TICKETS MUST BE OBTAINED AT THE CLUB'S TABLE IN THE LODGE. If black patch is reached, it is $30.00 for a snowboarder or skier lift ticket. (Excluding the first trip because requalification must take place on this trip.) Equipment rental is not included. Helmet rental is an additional $10.00. ONCE BLACK PATCH IS RECEIVED - NO LESSONS ARE INCLUDED. ONE FREE LESSON TICKET IS INCLUDED EACH NIGHT, THE STUDENT MAY PAY $12.50/SKIER, $25.00/SNOWBOARDER FOR AN ADDITIONAL LESSON TICKET AT THE TABLE. WEEKLY PERMISSION SLIPS The weekly permission slip with payment must be delivered to the Canfield Center or done online by Wednesday 5:00 p.m. prior to each trip. A $3.00 late fee is added to each permission slip that is ACCEPTED after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. SPOTS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE DEPENDING ON OPENINGS ON THE BUSES ORDERED FOR THAT FRIDAY TRIP. CANCELLATIONS Cancellations may be made by calling the Dearborn Heights Parks & Recreation Office at 791-3600 before 5:00 pm Wednesday prior to the Friday ski trip. If cancelled after 5:00 pm on Wednesday a $10.00 bus fee will be charged. (Only applies on trips when we provide transportation by bus.)This is for any cancellation reason including illness and school activities. To carry the cancellation over to a new week - a new slip must be filled out with the make-up date and returned by Wednesday 5:00 p.m. prior to the make-up ski trip. CLUB DATES & EVENTS

OVERNIGHT TRIP We usually offer a 3 day trip at the end of the season but due to Covid, we won't be offerring a 3 day trip this year. TRANSPORTATION THIS SEASON WE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET BUSES DUE TO DRIVER SHORTAGE. Obviously, if we don't provide them for the trip, you can disregard the $10.00 bus fee. There is no reduction in fees because we have never charged for transportation. They have been and are subsidized with our SMART millage funds. If we are able to get at least one bus, that bus will be filled based on a first come basis, using the date and time of registration for that week to determine SUPERVISION Club members will be supervised on the bus ride to and from the ski area, in the ski lodge room and on the hill by our adult chaperones. Students with questions or problems during a trip can find adult assistance at the Dearborn Heights Ski/ Board table in the lodge. (A background check is done on every program volunteer.)

WEEKLY TREATS We will be offering a food treat each week. Treat tickets can be obtained from the ski club desk in our lodge room.

MEMBERSHIP & PROFICIENCY PATCHES Members should have their patches sewn on their jackets or ski pants where they are visible. Patches are our means of identification of each skier's proficiency and ensures that they are receiving the proper instruction program. Different patches also enable them to access certain hills at Mt. Holly.

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING

Thermal underwear, ski or snowboard socks, ski pants or jeans treated for water repellancy. A sweater and/or parka, a cap/hat, and heavy duty mittens are a must. We also advise a helmet and wrist guards for all skiers and snowboarders.

SPONSOR

The Nichols Ski & Snowboard Shop will be the Dearborn Heights Ski & Snowboard Club choice for purchase of ski equipment and apparel. Nichols is located at 21938 Michigan Ave, between Monroe and Oakwood. Parking is at the rear of the store. A special discount will be given to Dearborn Heights Ski/Snowboard Club members.

SAFETY CHECK

For additional information call the Dearborn Heights Parks & Recreation Department Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., at 791-3600. A staff member or the ski club director will answer your questions.

SKI INSTRUCTION

Parents are welcome on scheduled trips. Parents/family members may purchase lift tickets, rentals and lesson tickets at a reduced rate. A one-time discount card must be purchased for $25.00. See our adult chaperone on duty in our club room on the third floor.

A good safety check will include skis, snowboards and boots and poles to ensure that boots are fitted correctly, skis, snowboards and poles are in good condition and that safety bindings are adjusted for proper release. This should be done by a ski shop specialist. The Mt. Holly Ski School has certified (PSIA) instructors. All students must take a lesson on each trip. The fee for a second lesson is $12.50 for skiers and $25.00 for snowboarders to be paid at the table in the lodge. All lesson tickets will be given out at the desk at the lodge. If a student is having a difficult time passing a level they are to see us at the table in the lodge, they will be given additional help.

BEHAVIOR POLICY

* No smoking, electronic cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, or Marijuana * Students must not leave the ski area * No unruly behavior * No vulgar language Suspension or expulsion from the club due to unacceptable behavior is at the discretion of the Parks & Recreation Department and it's Ski Club Director.

VALUABLES

Leave valuables such as: ipods, cell phones and other electronics at home. Use the ski/ snowboard corral to keep equipment safe. Also, keep your money on your person in a zipped pocket. The lodge is used by other ski clubs throughout the area, unattended items do get stolen. The Dearborn Heights Parks & Recreation Department, it's volunteers or the City of Dearborn Heights are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
