Felonies & Misdemeanors; The Detroit Cops & Mobsters Tour

Wednesday May 17, 2023

Some of the world’s most notorious criminals, mobsters, and gangsters bamboozled their way through Detroit. Some of history’s most infamous, brilliant, or honorable policemen tried to stop them. On this tour escape into the city’s criminal underworld as we investigate stories about Jimmy Hoffa, prohibition, The Purple Gang, “Joe the Hood”, The Gotham Hotel, and the Detroit Mob families. You’ll hear the story of "La Mano Nera" or black hand extortionists, in Detroit at the turn of the century. We’ll explore the illegal liquor war of the 1910’s. We’ll visit an iconic bar where we’ll learn about the police chief who resigned from his appointment as a judge to bring “civility back to the police”. We will traverse the city and learn the history of mobster owned speakeasies and some of their most memorable raids. From riots to rolling men into the river, from African American gambling rackets to Italian mobsters fixing professional football games, from hookers, madams, and street corner pimps to cops, mounted police, and mayors of all types welcome to the criminal side. After the tour we will enjoy lunch at the original Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit. Menu: All you can eat pizza (several options), Antipasto Salad, pop, coffee or tea. Tour, lunch, tax and tip is included in trip cost.

Kinky Boots, The Musical Sunday May 21, 2023

Inspired by true events and music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper , this musical tells the story of Charlie Price. Having inherited a shoe factory from his father, Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. At the end of the day, Kinky Boots is about acceptance, which is different from tolerance and the importance of kindness to all. After the show we will enjoy a delicious dinner at Hungarian Rhapsody. Enjoy classic Hungarian dishes or other European favorites while you listen to the soft traditional music that plays in the background. Dinner is on your own. $$
