BERWYN'S NEW EVENTS

For over 25 years, the Elder Law and Advocacy Center has been providing free civil legal services to individuals 60 years of age and older who reside in Wayne County. They have assisted thousands of clients and caregivers by providing general civil legal advice and preventing elder abuse. Examples of services provided include:

· Preventing and addressing financial exploitation

· Revocation of powers of attorney and wills

· Preparation of powers of attorney, wills, and deeds

· Restoring the title to a property

·Defending against unnecessary or improper guardianships or conservatorships

· Assisting in landlord-tenant matters

The Elder Law and Advocacy Center is funded by The Senior Alliance and other area agencies on aging in the tri-county area. Those in need of civil legal assistance from the Elder Law and Advocacy Center can call 313-937-8291.

SENIOR HEALTH & RESOURCES

The FOCUS HOPE Food for Seniors Program provides free monthly food for senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older. The program is sponsored by the Federal government. Berwyn & Eton are our distribution sites for Dearborn Heights Residents only. Food delivery for Eton will be the third Tuesday of every month. Food delivery for Berwyn will be the fourth Wednesday of every month. You must financially qualify for the program prior to receiving the first delivery of food. Stop in at the Berwyn or Eton office to get the Food for Seniors Guidelines and to register. For more information, please call Eton at 313277-7765 or Berwyn at 313-791-3550

SMART BUS TRANSPORTATION

Bus service is during the hours of 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m., Mon. - Fri. You must call 3 days prior to your trip. Call 1-866- 962-5515 to make your reservations. You may be eligible for free bus tickets, please call 277-7765 to check. You must be over the age of 55 for this service.

Eton & Berwyn Fitness Memberships

50 & over is fit, fun & fabulous! We have well equipped fitness rooms at each center. The rooms have treadmills, bikes, weights, mats, ellipticals and other pieces of equipment. Memberships are available for $25.00 a year for residents and $35.00 a year for nonresidents. You must be over the age of 50 to qualify. Registration can be done at either center. So what are you waiting for?

Small Time Commitment –Big Time Service!!

Volunteers with a warm smile and friendly hello are needed to deliver hot meals to home bound senior citizens in Dearborn Heights. Volunteers give approximately one hour per week and are reimbursed for mileage. The meals, however, are just part of the service. The home bound rely on these volunteers and look forward to their visits.

Couldn’t you spare one hour per week to bring a hot meal and warm reassurance to home bound seniors? Your help is needed! To Volunteer, call:

LIQUID MEAL PROGRAM

Seniors, age 60 and over, who are on a strict diet and need a liquid supplement can obtain it through Wayne County. The service will be available to those who qualify. To obtain more information or to see if you qualify, please call 1-800- 851- 1454. Small donations for supplements/meals are requested.
