Seasons of the Womb by Shawna Contreras The heat of the summer brought me muggy thoughts of how my life would change forever. Sadness and uncertainty filled my emotions, overwhelming thoughts filled my mind. As the seasons changed so did my love for you.

Joy seemed as far as springs next blossom, within sight but unable to grasp. The beautiful colors of fall change as fast as you grow. As cold wisps of winter air draws near, your strong kicks give me warmth. A bundle of joy that will be brought to me by cupids bow. Through the sadness You’ve brought me more happiness the I could’ve every imagined. A bond that grew threw the seasons And a love that will last a lifetime.

T’S ME Fernandez my older brother, my older sister and I decided to follow their steps, so, all in my family are teachers. The lunch time was our family time, TV? Never! All of us talked about our issues, everybody gives a piece of advice, but we had a rule: nobody can judge another or made comments like “why did you do that?”, although in private, my dad took us a side and he made a speech about that. I hated that, but with the years I’m really grateful for that, first because was in private but also because it means respect. And respect is a face of love. The Battle of the Tamales from A – Z by Mary Lou Sanchez November, 2017 was a month that I had to think fast – as in moneymaking fast! November 7th I woke up feeling positive, feeling as if nothing could stop me. Arriving at work I noticed there were three supervisors and security guards waiting for me. As I greeted them, they asked me to step into an office and told me I would no longer be a part of their team. With confusion I questioned, “Why?” No one would answer me as l looked at every one and said, “Why?” and began thinking of my family and all the bills I had to pay. And then it dawned on me. I remembered it was November, almost Thanksgiving. People like to eat. I then thought, what if I make tamales and sell them – and did just that. I went to the store, got everything I needed, started taking orders and then realized I had no help making them. I showed Anthony, my son, how many orders I had and he said, “I will help you, Mom.” We began making the tamales; realized we had no pans to steam them. I ran out and bought a pan, then we found we did not know how to spread the masa, we found it too thick. Anthony ran to the drawer and grabbed some Saran wrap and said, “Look, Mom, this spreads the masa evenly.” Then we realized we did not know how to wrap the tamales! Anthony got on his phone and Googled how this was done. But once we started wrapping and setting aside the tamales to cook, we again realized we did not know how to cook them. I called my mom and she explained the cooking process. We finally had gathered everything we needed and our tamale making began. Finally, the battle was over! Anthony and I made 30 dozen of tamales and I made enough money to pay all the bills after selling the 30 dozen. The tamales were liked very much and I had orders until the following month.
