A CIVIL RIGHTS SEQUENCE J. RAINFORD
I hate to say it, but it started off at slavery, But now it's going on with the cops' so called bravery. Can’t walk down the streets, once your day is done, Without staring down the barrel of a racist's shotgun. See a black man, get ready, shoot, FIRE. When his sister tells the story she is branded a liar. Sisters losing brothers, mothers losing sons, Just another name on the list once the deed is done. When is the murder and the hatred going to stop? When's the time when a cop's knee won't be on top of a black mans neck outside the barbershop. When innocent men won't fall asleep to the sound of POP, POP, POP. I'm so tired of seeing stories on the news, Another woman dead because the police abuse. Tweets getting dug up so as to justify, despite the innocent man's outcry. Eric Garner, George Floyd, saying I can't breathe, but the police held him down until he started to wheeze. Mothers, fathers, futures they left behind, Sisters, brothers, friends, what's happening to humankind! We're so lost, so stupid, so petty, Getting pulled over by the protectors, getting sweaty. 61
