A Message from Dean Lei I would like to thank all of you for your extraordinary efforts as we transition to remote instruction and telecommuting. In these difficult times, we are, and will remain, RBS Strong, in large part due to the efforts of our staff, who are so critical to our service and operations. Thank you all! Program Spotlights

Thank you, OTIS! As we continue to monitor ongoing developments related to COVID-19, OTIS (Office of Technology & Instructional Services) has Reinvented its services and support to meet the demands of full remote instruction. Their effective hybrid support model is meeting the teaching and learning demands of our faculty and students, as well as accommodating the activities of faculty utilizing enhanced classrooms at both locations. Under agile and steady leadership, OTIS was quick to act by developing and conducting remote instruction webinars to build the proficiency of faculty to meet the remote teaching mandates of the University toward providing a solid learning experience for our students. Laptop loaners, noise-cancelling headsets and webcams are allowing our faculty to conduct quality virtual classes and a COVID-19 website is providing up-to-date information to keep the RBS community abreast of technology news to enhance remote teaching and learning. In the coming weeks, RBS will be entering exam periods, and OTIS is poised to guide our faculty in deploying review and live proctoring options to maintain the integrity of testing sessions. With the support and leadership of the Dean’s Office, OTIS is committed to fully support our faculty, staff and students. With robust service continuity plans in place, OTIS strives to provide exceptional, uninterrupted and innovative service with Resilience, Resourcefulness and the deepest levels of Responsibility to promote excellence in teaching and learning.

Cyber Security using Conferencing Tools Best Practices for Security and WebEx For those using WebEx, the Best Practices for Secure WebEx meetings webpage shares how to provide a safe and secure environment with WebEx, such as using scheduled meetings (instead of a personal room) and knowing how to remove a participant from the meeting. WebEx is available free to all faculty, staff and students Web Conferencing for Instruction For employees who are teaching, the web conferencing and related tools available in the university’s learning management systems are often the preferred method for delivering lectures or hosting virtual gatherings. The Technology Tools for Faculty resource at the university’s COVID-19 website features information on recording videos and hosting webinars in Blackboard, Canvas, and Sakai.

Zoom Security Though Zoom is not supported by the Office of Information Technology, we realize that some members of the university community may be using it. If members of your community are using Zoom, please ask that they review these guidelines from Zoom about keeping crashers out of Zoom events.

Business with Bloomberg RBS has expanded its longstanding partnership with Bloomberg, Ltd. and recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of additional Bloomberg Terminals at RBS-NB and the creation of the new Bloomberg Business Lab; a pleasant and convenient location where students can use the machines to conduct research and further their growth in the financial world.

The Bloomberg Terminals are embedded with a variety of resources and beneficial tools that are used in several RBS courses in both Newark and New Brunswick. Integrating the Bloomberg Terminals into finance classes has had a positive effect on students’ learning and job placement, and is an example of just one of the innovative projects here at RBS Newark and New Brunswick.

RBS Student Emergency Fund In response to the many students whose families are undergoing severe financial hardships and health emergencies due to the COVID-19 outbreak, on April 4th Dean Lei announced the launch of the RBS Student Emergency Fund. The RBS Student Emergency Fund will be used to purchase essential computer hardware and accessories (e.g., webcams, headsets, printers) for students taking remote classes and online final exams, support fall semester tuition due to lost wages, and other hardships during this time. RBS staff can support our students by making a donation on the following website.

Adobe Creative Cloud Free Trial Adobe is offering a temporary free license for Adobe Creative Cloud for Faculty/Staff/Students through May 31, 2020. Subscription activation may take up to 2-business day. Once your temporary subscription has been activated, you will receive an email from the University Software Portal.

Guidance on Travel to and From Rutgers during COVID-19 For Staff, all travel to RBS buildings requires pre-approval from Sr. Associate Dean Melissa Rivera. If you are an essential employee who is required to be on University property, please reference the following, in accordance with the Governors Executive Order 107: 1. Display your Rutgers ID, which you should keep with you at all times; 2. If you are stopped explain that you are travelling to or from work at an educational institution, or in support of essential operations at an educational institution, and that remote support of this educational function is not practicable, all of which is expressly provided for in the Governor’s Executive Order (EO 107 at paragraphs 2, 10-11); and 3. Verification of your employment can be provided by RUPD, which can be reached at 848-932-7211.

Gravel Lot Update

For our employees on the New Brunswick campus, it seems as if the Gravel lot is here to stay...for now. Bright new lines have been painted on the fresh gravel to help maintain order within the lot.

Updating Contact Information As many of us telecommute between two campuses, and home, it’s important more than ever that we update our directory information. (Please allow 24 hours for your profile to reflect your recent submittals).

To update your location, please follow these instructions: 1. Log on to “My Rutgers” 2. Click on the “Employee Self Service Tab” 3. Under “ Personal Information”, click “Update Job Location” 4. Click the (+) button and add your new location Press “Save” when completed

5. Click the (-) button to delete your old location

When a voice message is deleted from Outlook, it is also deleted from Cisco Unity Connection Server (voicemail system).

What will happen when the voicemail to email messages go from unread to read?

When a you read the email (unread to read) the MWI (message waiting indicator) will turn off after all voicemails to emails are read.

HR News Virtual Finance & Administration Support As we continue to telecommute, RBS-HR (Human Resources Manager, Dee White, and HR Coordinator, Shari Rynar) will be hosting weekly virtual office hours for staff members with any general questions or concerns. CEO & State Director of NJSBDC Retires After 29 Years Brenda Hopper, Chief Executive Officer and State Director of America’s Small Business Development Centers - New Jersey (NJSBDC), as well as a proud Rutgers MBA Alumni, retired on March 31st, after 29 years of service. She effectively ran the NJSBDC headquartered in RBS throughout her tenure, overseeing training and lobbying efforts that assisted small business owners throughout the state. As State Director, she oversaw the growth and expansion of the network from six regional centers to twelve centers and more than twenty affiliate offices. Ms. Hopper commented, “I am proud to say that I led a team that has helped thousands of successful business owners, infusing billions of dollars into NJ’s economy,” Hopper said. “I’ve learned and shared a lot along the way.” She has been a strong supporter of RBS and RBS students throughout her career. Virtual Breakroom Chats Monday morning, March 30th, Sr. Associate Dean of Administration & Finance, Melissa Rivera, hosted a virtual coffee/tea break with staff in her department to stay connected and relieve feelings of isolation. It was great to see so many coworkers, even if only on a small monitor. Employees updated each other on how the work-from-home transition was going, what their furry family members thought of all the extra attention these days, what television/Netflix series are binge worthy, how to navigate shopping at the big warehouse stores while self-distancing, and what everyone has been doing to keep busy. Hint: Lots of screen time, take-out food and eating, some running and outdoor exercise, and very, very little reading.

Look out for more virtual breaks invitations via email and, please share photos and details of your department’s remote team building efforts via email to the Newsletter committee!

Good Deeds During COVID-19 There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus and the Red Cross needs the help of blood and platelet donors and blood drive hosts to maintain a sufficient blood supply for the weeks to come. Donating blood products is essential to community health and the need for blood products is constant. As part of our nation’s critical infrastructure, healthy individuals can still donate in areas that have issued shelter in place declarations. The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need.In times of crisis, the Red Cross is fortunate to witness the best of humanity as people roll up a sleeve to help those in need. Please join Nancy Kiley by donating blood at your nearest American Red Cross drive.

Veteran Business Mentor Award Congratulations Shyeka Hopkins, Marketing Program Coordinator of SBDC as this year’s recipient of The American Legion Veteran Business Mentor Award! Shy will be recognized this summer at their state convention in Wildwood, NJ.

COVID-19 Innovation Challenge The April 2020 RBS Innovation Challenge is: Adapting to Teaching or Serving Students Remotely. Please send in your best practices and ideas no later than May 1st so we can all learn from your innovations that can improve the satisfaction and learning experience of our students over Summer sessions.

Process: 1. The RBS Innovation Challenges are open to all RBS faculty and staff.

2. Simply summarize your innovative idea in 1-2 paragraphs in an email. Reference materials may be attached; however, the body of the email should be self-sufficient to convey the idea. One idea per email, please.

3. Send your email to innovate@business.rutgers.edu 4. Please respect the innovation spirit, process, and our inboxes. Ideas broadcasted via mass email will not be eligible for recognition.
